J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Just like the last promo, the one taking effect today until next week does not include any of the 7 items I have sitting in my shopping cart. Winter essentials apparently don't
Include winter weight sweaters - or at least the ones I want. Not impressed.

    1. But they include shorts! (Seriously, what?)

    2. I know, I thought the same. It's 15 degrees today (but feels like 0) and I can't wait to put my shorts on...

    3. Yep, stuff I want not included in the promo so I'll keep waiting---

  2. Has anyone tried
TALL CAP-SLEEVE DRESS IN SUPER 120S WOOL?
I am wanting to pull the trigger but not in stores where I live and there aren't enough reviews to get an idea of fit (true to size etc) and how the neckline/cap sleeves look on. Any help would be great.

  3. Not a review but a gripe (I couldn't wait for that weekly post): I placed two retail orders & one Factory order over the last five days. The retail orders were five items altogether... and they're all shipping separately, from stores (ugh). The Factory items all shipped together from the warehouse. WTF. Get your act together, J Crew!

I guess I shouldn't complain. At least the Factory order should be good AND everything shipped in a timely manner! We shall see what condition everything is in when it all arrives...

    1. Same thing happened to me, Taylor - received five separate packages. Everything shipped from stores so far has been in perfect condition. However, it cannot possibly be cost effective to ship five separate packages!

  4. Hey Taylor, I thought of you...It looks like J.Crew is having a 4 day warehouse sale January 22-25 in Lynchburg in an old T.J. Maxx space in the Candler Mountain shopping center. We haven't had a warehouse sale in Arden for months but it is probably a good thing if you read my post from yesterday. They have just been offering deals and extra percentage off which is probably pretty smart to move stuff that way and save the cost of having the big warehouse sale which I know is a huge headache for them. Hope you can go! Hope your son is doing well!

    1. Thanks for the info! I can't handle the warehouse sale crowd. It's too intense for me. And yes, my son is doing ok. :)

    2. doodle, where did you get the info about the warehouse sale? very tempting to make the drive up from NC and I haven't been to one in years.

    3. The Roanoke Times for the Lynchburg sale.

I have pasted the link above. I am on the email for the Arden location or you can call the clearance store and there is a prompt for warehouse sale information. You can google J.Crew in Arden to get the number.

    4. thank you so much! I've been going back and forth on whether or not to order a pair of leather leggings, maybe the warehouse will have some...

    5. You never know. I did buy a pair of leather front pixie pants last year for less than $20.00.

  5. Review of the silk clip dot ( from the new catalog) on my IG.
I got the Gemmas in stripe yesterday and they are in the new catalog also.

  6. I tried on the STRIPED BOATNECK TUNIC in store and really liked it, it's a soft material, thicker than other jcrew tees, and the arms and body are long (I'm tall, on me it hit at the low hip). I'm waiting for it to go on sale!

    1. I'm waiting for it to go on sale too :D It already says "only a few left" in my size, must be popular.

  7. I received a few orders last week from the non-final sale - the black wide-leg pant in wool (e5641, the ones with the front pleat that came in blue/grey and black). Against the reviews, I tried a 12 which is the smaller of my two pant sizes and while they fit ok in the waist, the hip area was tighter and the pleats on the front of the leg made my thighs look HUGE. If there had just been a tad more room in the hip area I might have been ok. The pant legs are dramatic but fun. I can see why these were a hit. Today, I saw a grey pair pop back in a 14 today so called to order them and had the final shipping waived. We'll see if they're a bad idea or not.

I also received the patent Collins loafers in bright cerise and I LOVE them. As other reviewers stated, they're more of a lipstick red than orange-red which I am so happy about. I took my usual J.Crew shoe size and I found them to be a little wide in the heel, but nothing crazy, but I by no means have narrow feet. Sizing down would have made them too tight.

Lastly, I bought the open cardigan sweater in grey and black. I received them Friday and wore the grey one all weekend - I wanted a wool version of the rib stitch cotton cardigan which I wear all the time. I like the longer length of this and I wore it Sunday with a long sleeve tee and Pixie pants. It runs large though - I went with a medium which is the smaller of my two sweater sizes and I daresay I could have gotten away with a small for a more fitted look...the sleeves are still a little bunchy. It's warm and sheds a little but I was most disappointed that after two days of wear, there was quite a bit of pilling under the arms. Nothing a sweater comb can't fix, but still disappointing.

I posted a few outfits with the Patent Collins loafers and the grey open cardigan on my blog here

    1. So here we go...Since I had the Collins in tortoise, when I read this post, I thought hmmmmm wonder if any store would have a red pair. Guess what? I found the only pair in size 8 at a store in Minnesota. I really needed these as I really love my tortoise pair but I really am cleaning out ( just to make room for more apparently) :)

    2. Lol DD. Nothing like finding the last one when you're searching!

      Delete
    3. @DD you won't regret the red Collins and it must have been meant to be!! I wear a lot of neutrals on the weekends and they are the perfect color pop. I love the tortoise ones as well, we'll see if I cave...glad you found the red ones :)

  8. I've received just part of a recent order, the striped turtleneck (e4851), fit TTS in my usual M and sleeves are long enough (yay), very surprised they are calling this a "sweater" as it feels simply like a cotton jersey, *slightly* heavier weight tee material. Pretty thin I will need to layer over it in this cold weather, have a photo on my instagram, navybluecardigan.
Haven't received rest of my order except I tried one of the new wool jackies in "neon guava", I didn't even take it out of the plastic bag and try it on - the color was insane. It's my fault as the word "neon" should have been a giveaway but on the website it simply looks like a nice dark pink, in person, yikes! it is NEON. Took it out of the shipping envelope and put it right back in as I knew I would never wear it, but now regretting not at least trying it on for size as some reviews are saying the wool jackie runs small.

    1. I love that striped turtleneck! I saw your IG. I sized up in mine. I like the thickness of the knit. I wish it came in solid as well. I wouldn't consider it a sweater technically but it's thicket than a typical knit. I also ordered the oversized turtleneck in stripe but sized down to Xxs because that was what was available, I hope it works. And ironically enough I found the factory version of the oversized turtleneck in my college kid's room. No idea where or when she got it, lol, but now that she's back at school I may have to take it. I like wearing that thickness to yoga or around the house with other layers. (And it's great for milder, but still chilly temps too.)

    2. It was definitely a nice surprise, all cotton is a big plus and the fit being TTS is nice (never sure with sizing these days). Really versatile for lots of temperatures, as you said.

    3. The wool Jackie does run small. I went up one size and of course I have it in two colors. One is never enough.

  9. I bought the micropleated midi skirt in navy on a pop back (never noticed it before until I was scrolling the sale section which I shouldn't do :) ). I purchased my usual size in skirts and it fits well. Very flattering fit and can be casual or dressed up. I'm 5'7" and it hit just a bit lower than my kneecaps so not really a midi on me but I prefer this length. It had great reviews and I agree it swings nicely and moves well. Happy with this purchase!

  13. Forgot to post this review: COLLECTION NYLON PARKA WITH REMOVABLE LINER
    item e3563
I bought this for my almost 18 yo daughter Who is about 5'10+ and a 00. Last winter I had bought her a longer anorak type coat and she felt it was too bulky to carry through school and she requested something shorter. She didn't really give me any specific ideas. I know she liked the excursion vest (which I also ordered for her in black, I have it and she's borrowed). I saw this and thought the color would be great for her sandy blonde hair and hazel eyes. Well, she loves it. I was afraid the cut would be too short on her very tall and lanky frame, but it works. OTOH, I'm the same size but 5'6" and she wears it much better! Considering how trying this year has been, I should post this under "looking to love" too. Something that makes my girl happy is definitely something to love! <3

    1. Forgot to mention, I almost ordered a medium but think I ended up getting her a small.

    2. She'd be swimming in a Medium! I'll bet you got her a Small. I am normally a Medium and I was swimming in the Medium (it's very oversized/boxy). I'd re-order in a Small if it were something I had a need for. It's a great jacket, glad she loves it!

    3. Yes, I checked the order and it was a small. I sometimes size up a few sizes for length but the small works!

  15. Today was a happy mail day!
Received stripe faux fur tunic & it's soooo cute. Would've never noticed this without the JCA's. Fit was tts; I'm normally a medium & the sizing of S/M fit well. Planning to wear with Vince suede leggings or Saturday pants in navy.
The leopard collarless shirt is a nice silk fabric & tts for me. Can wear this tucked in, but I like the option of being able to wear the shirttail out. Like the curved hem. Really a versatile silk top for $30.
Received my reorder of wool patio pant in chartreuse. I originally sized up, but reordered my normal size 8 in tall. Fit is tts, similar to the Campbell wool pant with leather tuxedo stripe. I don't own a lot of JC pants, but this crop style has worked for me.
Bradbury wash denim shorts are a steal for $13. Wanted another pair of denim shorts for vacation. I wear a 29 or 30 in jeans, but I dislike denim shorts hugging my thighs so I ordered up.
Finally, I purchased fabric backed crystal earrings in store. They were still full price but SA matched online price so ended up being about $20. They have a post backing so they feel secure and don't pull on the ear lobe. Will wear for date night & summer vacations.

    2. I love pearls since they work great whether casual or dressed up IMO. So, I wore tunic with a multi strand pearl necklace I bought @ Target. Similar to JC twisted pearl hammock necklace but this one was $5 on clearance.

  16. Had to post some off the cuff reviews. I will go back and try things on more carefully but here are stream of consciousness thoughts.

E0039 Elsie suede enamel heel Kraft brown: Fabulous. Perfect color. True to size. (I got the same size I did in glitter Elsies.) Dark charcoal gray enamel heel, not black as I assumed. A total steal. The Kraft brown is not as dark ask kraft brown paper, but a lovely soft tan suede. I can see these getting lots of wear. The heel is slender and sexy. Wow.

C6249 SLEEVELESS DRAPEY POPOVER SHIRT in black. I love a muscle shirt and although I am not crazy about poly, I couldn't resist. This will get a lot of wear. I could have sized up for a drapier fit. I ordered a O. (Some of my sleeveless shirts from last summer were 00 but I tend to wear 2 in button down shirts and Blazers. I have a long narrow torso but maybe broader shoulders from swimming as a kid and working out now.)
E1798 Thomas mason in Stewart plaid. Disappointing. The plaid looks more screen printed than woven to me. Colors are fine. It's not flannel but there is a slight linty factor to the front of the fabric which reminds me of flannel. I sized up to a 2 and it still feels a little tight and boxy.

E4396 belted zip trench in wool Melton, HTHR TURQUOISE: I was on the fence about this for awhile, but I'm glad I bit the bullet. It's not particularly heavy. But heavier than the collarless coat. The style is great. I sized down to a 2. I usually wear a 4 or size up to a 6 in jackets/coats. I got the lady dat coat in bright cerise in a 4 and feel like it just fits. This fits perfectly in a 2. The color is a little more green than I thought but still beautiful. The zipper is not rose gold as some reviewers mention. Mine is a true gold, maybe more like 18k than 14k, but not rose. I could see the zipper causing problems but I think it will be fine. This will look wonderful with all black, gray and even pops of red.

E5087 champagne multi METALLIC TWEED JACKET WITH FRONT POCKETS. Love the jacket, not sure I love the fit on me. The 2 fits my shoulders ok but does feel a bit boxy on my torso. Sits at hip. I purchased because I thought it would look great with distressed denim and gold shoes (maybe glitter Elsies!) for spring but I will need to play around a bit.

A few other items I still need to discuss but they are basics. Off the bat if I could return two items it would be the Thomas Mason and the metallic tweed blazer. One due to quality and one due to fit. I'm hoping I can make both work though. Will post IG and blog pics as the week progresses.

  17. I received the Stadium Cloth Cocoon Coat in the light pink this week (on super sale), and although I like the coat for the price point, it's noticeably less quality than previous versions. Fit is TTS.

  18. New catalog is showing a line of J. Crew branded sunglasses. They look cute!
There is a Chateau jacket in water-resistant cotton. A new pant called the Teddie (stretch cotton with a cropped leg and flattering kick at the hem). Gorgeous looking suede midi skirt (and pants). Jackie twinsets. Tippis, some with stripes and shoulder buttons. Printed flats and heels. Patio and tie-front pants. A print called Mirrored Floral, another called Deco Floral. Made In Italy Kiki ballets. Striped button down with hint of ruffle (surprisingly I like it). Georgie loafers. Marlo Crossbody bag is new, looks small and boxy. A few dresses, including a striped merino sweater dress, faux-leather zip dress, and tweed sheath dress. A tweed jacket with fringe and zippers. Sorry I have no way to scan/post the catalog.

  21. Full length pants in bistretch wool- these had great reviews so I tried them because nice full length pants from jcrew don't happen too often. I think they are good quality and although not lined they feel substantial enough. The side zip makes them flattering and less bulky in the front, they are higher waisted but I have a long torso so they aren't too high on me. I sometimes wear a size 2 in pants sometimes a 4, I ordered these in a 4 and that's the right size for me. They seem to run a little small but they fit well everywhere maybe a tad snug in the rear but not too tight at all. They are a longer length but they are ok with heels (5'7"). Overall a nice quality pant and I paid a great price (they recently got marked down again) they are worth more than the sale price IMO so I'm happy.

Here's another review on. A blog post, because. I don't have a gazillion other things to do and this is more fun. The metallic tweed jacket with front pockets in champagne multi. Please let me know what you think! It's a little bit of a different look for me.

  23. Wool-blend long V-neck cardigan (e5985) - if you like oversized, cocoon-y cardigans with really long arms, then I'd recommend giving this one a try. I sized down to XS and it was still plenty roomy (although not as much as the model pic - I imagine that's how S would look). The knit is a kind of boiled-wool, but "springy" (like bounce, not season) feeling - I have a sweater coat from Loft that's almost the exact blend, so I knew what to expect. The heather latte color works for me better than the heather camel in other cardigans because it's a little more brown than yellow. I'd be willing to bet there are popbacks on this because it's so oversized, and the fabric is a little different.

Lookout high-rise jean in sanford wash (e5865) - if you like Lookouts (and I do!) then these are great and fit as expected (I don't care for poly in my jeans but make exception for Lookouts). The wash actually looks as it does online (for once, ha) and I didn't find the whiskering to be as pronounced as the item pic, but that may be a case-by-case basis.

  24. Three last reviews and, my wallet hopes the last purchase of the season:

Today I received the PLAID POM POM SCARF in red cobalt. Love it, the colors are so vibrant. It's not as big as a blanket. Just fun, a great purchase for me. Also love that it's wool.

Elsie star d'orsay pumps. Omg. I sized down 1/2 size, and the fit is generous still, but fine. I actually have a blue striped silk (or maybe not silk but silk like) mini From about 2012 and these work well with that but I'm guessing mostly I will wear them with jeans and button downs or gray sweaters. I love stars! Glad I snagged them even though I don't wear much blue, they're a great accent.

I got my second pair of Ava ballet flats in black. For those not following along, I got my first pair and after wearing them for an hour the JCrew label which was poorly glued down lifted partially. If I try to remove it it rips the lining. I contacted CS and they said I can return them but this pair is even worse. At least I know, so I will have to either Reglue the labels or get a thin pair of shoe inserts. I love the fit of the shoe. It almost seems as the glue dried out.
