Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I just received the latest Lands End catalog and I was very impressed with how it was shot, very colorful and engaging. Even the cover seemed very classic J Crew. They have some beautiful coats this fall too.

    1. I tried on a very pretty blue boiled wool coat there recently.

    2. I have been seriously contemplating that very coat! I like that it comes in tall and is wool and kind of an unusual color. Waiting to see how the reviews on the website pan out.

    3. Lands End has been really good lately. I got a gorgeous dark red tweed metallic dress last winter that was a showstopper.

    4. Got a couple of coupons for 30% off Lands End denim in my catalog. They all had the same code: JEAN, PIN: 1203.

    5. I received the LE black suede kitten heels today. They're gorgeous and look like they cost 3x what I paid.

IMO the new LE CEO is killing it. There is a lot to love in that new Fall Guide catalog.

  2. Popped in to BR yesterday to do a return, ended up walking out with several items from the new rollout... The 'black rose' windowpane fabric is beautiful in a pleated skirt and cropped top, and there is a v-neck sweater with faux-leather sleeve panels that is very similar to J Crew's current offering. All tops were 40% off, and the sale section was an additional 60% off.

    1. Agreed, loving BR so much right now! I purchased a fantastic pair of faded black jeans there, a beautiful leather midi skirt and a great long semi-sheer silk blouse. I'm in love with that store right now...

    2. Totally agree, Roxy! Have struggled to find things to love in JCrew lately, but I am in trouble every time I go into BR.

    3. @roxy turtle. Ooo... nice looking black jeans! High-waist jeans don't work for me.

    4. I understand lolcatgirl. I'm cheering the return of high-waist jeans because they seem to fit me best, but I was suffering through the years of low-rise jean popularity, so I totally get it! There is a pair of midrise black jeans too but it looks like they are a true black, not quite the same faded wash.

Have you ever noticed Citizens of Humanity's Racer Skinny jeans? They are super low-rise but make my butt look incredible. Somehow they work on me despite being super low rise. They have a few black washes out this year. :)

  3. I found a couple of very cute turtleneck/cowl neck sweaters at Forever 21 of all places. The fabric is thick, warm and pretty soft for the price. I'm very happy with my purchase.

  4. I recently got two Blazers from Brooks Brothers Red Fleece line. One is black watch plaid and one is a different plaid. They fit me much better than the ones from Crew and are excellent quality and tailoring. I got them during the friends and family sale so they are last years leftovers which is fine with me as I paid $55 and $68 for them. Very happy with them and worth a look when they have an additional % off sale.

  5. Just received six merino v-necks from Uniqlo - they cost $17 each, fun colors, and nicely tailored. My older uniqlo vnecks have held up beautifully and hope these do too.

    1. Flower Power - do you wear your J Crew size in Uniqlo sweaters? I am hesitant to order as I don't have a store nearby yet. I wear a small in Tippis and xsmall in just about everything else.

    2. @ FlowerPower, ha! I'm waiting on my first (*set*) of orders of the same v-neck merino sweaters from Uniqlo:) At first ordered 2 colors plus an IDLF white shirt (highly praised by wellfedfred)..then went back for other four colors.. So glad you vouched for them..
Much like @shopalot, I was uneasy with sizing so I have my fingers crossed until I get to try them.

    3. Hi ladies - I sized up in the Uniqlo merino v-necks because I like to layer. If I were wearing it solo, I would probably have stayed with my usual S. I thought they were nice quality for the price and am interested to see how they hold up.

    4. I wear xs at United States uniqlo. Small in Japan. At j.crew I wear xxs. I'm 5 foot 2, 95 pounds, 32A. HTH!

    5. Thanks all for your responses. I think I'll go with a small for layering. XS will probably be too snug after washing. Only one more month until the Chicago Uniqlo opens and then I won't have to guess anymore! :)
