Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I did pick up a September style guide this past week at the store. There are a few cute things but nothing I am dying for. I will most likely not go by the store. This is the time of year where there is really not anything of interest either on sale or full price. I will however be going to Sephora to pick up some new lip gloss.

    1. DD, did you notice a burgundy jacket, other than the Downtown Field Jacket? I am debating ordering it with my rewards (no I did not receive them but going to insist that they apply them) and I have a 20% off that I received with my new J Crew card. But if there is another jacket option in that color I may wait. TIA

    2. @JRSConifer There is a burgundy leather motor cycle jacket.

    3. Thanks Ina, I thought I remember you saying something about a burgundy jacket and searched the blog and could not find the post. So going for the field jacket, I find in Colorado, leather is not a great option for me.

    4. @JRSConifer there are also two new versions of the Downtown Field jacket: the Hooded Downtown Field with zip out vest ( in spruce and dark cobalt) and the DF Puffer ( green, navy grey and nutmeg). No burgundy in those.

    5. I will need to take a second look when I get home and let you know. It didn't jump out at me. I forgot, I have a 20% off as well with my new card. Thanks for the reminder. Wonder if it can be combined?

    6. Ooh, Ina. Thanks so much. So I may hold off and wait to see the Hooded Downtown before I make a purchase.

    8. what has loaded on pinterest so far ( the kids stuff ) is super cute. the models all look like mini me versions of the women. (hair all messy etc...one even has Jenna glasses on) just when we thought sequins and dark glasses were finished.

    9. I do remember one thing that caught my eye. They brought back the silver metallic d'orsay tassel flat from spring back in gold, black suede and red. I bought the silver ones on super sale but would love to have them in black.

  4. Remember the "Little Mayhem" Crewcuts capsule collection that JC introduced with great fanfare last spring? It all revolved around a Ohio 4 year old who according to Jenna is a design genius. It hasn't worked out too well - almost every Mayhem item is now on sale in every size. Perhaps this is one of Jenna's now famous "learning experiences"?

  6. Did stop by at lunch. Some very, very sad news. J Crew is discontinuing the VPS program in certain stores and those SAs will be losing their jobs. They have been offered positions but at entry level and with no commission. My 2 favorite SAs have been notified and will be leaving, very sad and they were shocked after many years working for J Crew. I wanted to place an instore order for the Downtown Field jacket but when the SA called to get my rewards, she was told there had been a glitch and online did not have access to them. They believe we should receive them next week but since the points were withdrawn on 7/2, who knows if that is accurate. I did get a September Style Guide and a quick glance says it has promise but I have a bitter taste in my mouth right now with J Crew.

    1. oh no ! Not more job lost !
this just makes my wanting to see new arrivals feel pretty pathetic.

    2. Wow! That stinks. I wonder if the one at my store will be gone. She has worked there for quite some time.

      Delete
    3. Oh, that really stinks. I tried to email about my rewards from the Comenity site and the secure message center kept crashing on me. Tank on quality *and* customer service and you've pretty much lost me for good, J.Crew.

      Delete
    4. I posted this yesterday:
I happen to speak with CS re: rewards this week. I wanted to use it for a purchase. The CS transferred me to the Comenity Bank where the rep told me "the rewards won't be available until next week". I ask will they send out the emails with the cards code, she said yes, and that the cards will be actually mailed out next week. I don't hold my breath, she wasn't confident with her answers.
So my understating is that if you call them on Monday, you might be able to get your rewards code.

It is mind boggling that in this day and age, a customer can not opt out for receiving the card in the mail, and choose electronic delivery only (just like the billing), with the rewards code being readily available on your online account!

    5. Re: VPS service - feel terrible for another laid off folks. With that said, I personally found them not to be as ....attentive. After several occasions where I was able to find an out of stock/wait list items when they were not, I gave up on their services.
On the other hand, the CS phone line (the one for preferred customers anyways) is always super accommodating, and helpful).

  7. I forgot that when I went by the store yesterday I tried on the Gemma flats. They are very cute! The glitter ones were a little more sparkly than I had imagined or maybe it was just the store lighting. Some people mentioned sizing down but I thought they ran tts. My feet are average to slightly wide through the forefoot and more narrow in the heel. Hope that helps someone!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi Lauren - sounds like we have the same feet. I'm curious about the Gemma..and wanted to try it, too. I touched it and liked the soft leather.

      Delete
    2. I bought the gemma flats too. In leopard and glitter. I also went with my usual size. The leopard ones are awesome but the glitter ones are too much for me (plus i paid full price because i was curious and there's no way I'm paying full price for them). I'm thinking of getting the marble print ones instead. my feet are slightly wide too and i can see how people with narrow feet would have a sizing issue with these.

      Delete
    3. I was in the store recently for a return. I took by the spinach moss cede ( they slipped on my heel in my usual size, but a size down would have been to small) I bought the Gemma flats instead. Loved the feel of them and felt they were true to size. I am seriously considering picking up the leopard as well ( as I have a few more returns to make ( the geo lace shift is super cute but bunches at the shoulders which make it a return for me).

  8. Went to the vancouver robson street store. There were some new arrivals. Nothing that I loved. In fact, for me, it was more disappointment. Lots of polyester. There was even a new wool blazer that they somehow made look like polyester to me. It had a shiny and heavy unnatural feel. I tried. On the stripe merino sweater dress. Crazy vanity sizing as I was swimming in my usual size small. And the merino wool felt cheap and insubstantial.

    1. I'm trying to reserve judgment till I see the whole catalog and rollout, but in 2015 every "style guide" has seemed the same. I do think that they should just put up the whole thing on Pinterest and be done with it. Let people talk about the items and get excited! (Remember AJC's sneak peeks from the concept store? Those were great.) Trying to build anticipation at this point isn't really helping, especially when it's bejeweled tees...again.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, so am I....trying, at least. :P
And I agree, I wish they'd just toss everything on there right away!

Well more has loaded, and I have to say these yellows and pinks are not good.

I would be a lot more excited to see some good basics return, in nice, saturated colors.

    4. So far nothing really floats my boat. Kinda boring to me. I agree the colors are not very fall. Yellows and pinks aren't good on my skin and are not very easy for many to wear. We'll see.

    5. According to J Crew's head stylist, camel and canary yellow are the most versatile colors this fall, yellow is also complimentary to every skin tone...except mine Gayle

    6. TeriLynn13 thanks for that article. I think that head stylist is cracked. Yellow looks bad on a lot of people's skin tones, including mine. Camel is a good color, but the particular shade in the catalog looks....off somehow.

I laughed when I read, "The most unexpected color you'll be seeing on shelves in the fall? Cobalt." Seriously, wasn't this the "It" color just a few years ago? I remember seeing it everywhere.

The only thing I like so far is the striped boatneck tee.

  10. I'm trying to withhold judgement and cash until everything is out. Everything at Boden this fall has grabbed my attention and there is plenty to love at Anthropologie too, want to give J Crew a chance before I consider my other options. 2. I can't remember if I tried on the white ones, but the blue wash ones I tried were absolutely terrible on me. High waisted, bulky through the hips/pelvis. Picked up a pendant necklace (sale= FS) and cashier asked for my last name (!?)..Without thinking I said it and after she had found it in the system she wanted to make sure it was really me and proceeded to recite my home address (!!?)..
I asked why they were doing that to which she replied.."well, in case you loose your receipt" (for a final sale item, mind you).
I will be more attentive from now on and go the "can I opt out of that, pls" route

  16. I like that Donegal blazer but not in the Regent. I own two Regents already; a wool navy and the linen stripe, and I want to change up a bit. I've been wanting a wool blazer in a donegal fabric, for years now.

J.Crew used the donegal blazer with a navy lapel at NYFW. I like that style! I wonder when they'll roll that out. It's probably: 1. A collection piece, 2. Expensive, 3. and won't be offered in petite.

  17. Viewed the women's images from the sept style guide that are up on Pinterest... WHY the spring colors for fall? They started things off right with august's style guide and the rich greens, maroon, chartreuse, blues... Now they are putting out pinks and yellows, WHITE JEANS? For fall??? Maybe that's "in" this year, I don't know.. What I do know is that if I try to rock pink tops and white jeans here in Washington state during the fall, the good majority of people I see out and about don't know that it's "on trend" (if it is), and it will look like I'm rocking clearance finds from the spring. I look forward to fall clothing so much! I have so many beautiful pieces already but I always like to add more! Also there's so much gray! Here's to hoping that the actual rollout includes better options that what's currently showing on Pinterest

  18. Btw, since that was my first post, I'll introduce myself. I've been reading the blog for roughly a year but never posted. I'm a 29 yo Mom of 2 little girls from Washington. I'm also a ped nurse and Jcrew is definitely my favorite store but I have started looking at other options (Boden, Anthro, Zara), after a couple years of consecutively disappointing rollouts. I don't do Instagram or Pinterest (I had a hard time even finding Jcrews Pinterest haha). I have a FB but blogging and posting photos is not my forte. Anyway I love this blog and it has proved to be an invaluable resource and I truly appreciate all of the insight you ladies provide and the time and effort that Alexis puts into maintaining this page for us.

  19. This is OT, but I just received my order from J.Crew Factory. The Isabelle printed bow pumps I got on popback are adorable.. Too bad they sent me 2 different sized shoes. Yep.. One was a 7( the size I ordered), and the other foot was a 7.5. How does that happen?? Do they not check the shoes before they ship them out? And they didn't even ship them to me in a shoe box- just a bag. It's obsolutely ridiculous. If anyone gets my size 7 shoe, let me know and I'll ship you your 7.5!! (Very unlikely, I know..)

    1. say what ? this is not good not good at all. anyone else hearing the "your'e fired" in the works at home office.

      Delete
    2. It would be extremely costly to "fire" Jenna. She has an ironclad contract. One has to hope that she will get in touch with the reality of what's happening at the company. The"collective guilt" theory that she propounded in the Glamour issue was absurd.

      Delete
    3. interesting...what kind of contact / or weight does she have ? I always liked her but where has she been lately? love to know what you know ( I am nosey...obviously) hope she doesn't just blame the tilly....she was always the face of J Crew for me...I wonder if Mickey told her to get "lost" for awhile. wait for the storm to pass and then resurface with a much smaller profile in the company. oh to be a fly on the wall in Mickeys office!

      Delete
    4. Her contracts, salary, bonuses, etc are easily accessible as public filings - Google and patience are your best tools.

      Delete
    5. As of now her contracts are on 1-year renewal as on now. She had a 5-year contract previously. Also, except the 1 year pay salary and medical (standard) she is only to receive a bonus equal to last fiscal year bonus, which in Fiscal 14' was ZERO (unlike in previous years). So firing her now would be cheaper than previous years...

Also, in April 13' she got 1.5M special bonus, which has to be reimbursed by her is she gets fired/quits before April 16'. I would say it is in HER interest to do her best to keep the job.

Her ownership as a shareholder is some miniscule 3-4%, not a significant % by any means....

Executive Comp starts at page 42, if anyone's interested.

      Delete
    6. I have absolutely nothing personal against her. Amazing that she started as an assistant and now is the creative director - there is no higher creative position at the top, but here place is elsewhere. Her own line, perhaps. Her aesthetics do not appeal to vast majority of jcrew customers.
Whatever the cost of letting her go, definitively cheaper that the half a billion write-off from last year. I am soooo curious about fiscal 15 results and the future of the company!

Again, i think she is actually very creative and talented. But the ill-fitted, way too out-of-the box creations with mickey and co. financial greed (low quality to save pennies) destroyed jcrew we all loved, imo.

      Delete
    7. Thanks...yes interesting. when I googled it I read her salary is a cool 1 million per year. am I correct ?

      Delete
    8. Correct 1M + bonus. In 2012 she got total 5.1M, 2013 - 3.2M, 2014....1M, no performances bonuses last year.

  21. I just looked at the September style guide on Pinterest. I also don't understand the pinks and yellows as we move into fall. Those would have been great for spring as others have mentioned. Another thing that jumped out at me was that none of the pins for women were of photos taken in Paris but the kids and men's were Paris photos. Can anyone who has seen the actual paper version of the style guide comment on whether the any part of the women's section was photographed in Paris?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Shima - J.Crew loads the photos backwards, starting with men's first, and ends it with women's. It has always been like that since they joined Pinterest. No on knows the logic behind their method. :)
And btw, loading may end tonight, it may not, so the Paris section will likely be finish by tomorrow AM. Snail pace...always.

    2. Thanks JSR. I sure hope that there are Paris photos for the women's. The location shoots sure the best thing about the Jcrew style guide these days. Crazy how slow the Pinterest upload is.

  28. A few more things have loaded on Pinterest. I must say, I think the black leather pencil skirt is gorgeous. Two questions come to mind though. Is the model posed that way because she can't actually sit in it? And if I bought it, where would I wear it? It's not work appropriate, it isn't casual weekend wear. Its too long and tailored to be club gear.

    2. I saw that, Fred! I am tempted. Several years ago I had an Etsy seller make me a leather skirt that looks similar. I gave her a picture of an Oscar de la Renta skirt and she copied it. I've worn it a ton. I think I'd wear the BR one a lot as well if the quality is there.

      Delete
    3. How about, whoever tries it on first posting a little review?
I would have raved about the green leather skirt on the BR website but it appears that I may have captured the last one in the entire country - it's no longer on their site.

      Delete
    4. I had the exact same question about that black leather skirt--was it not the right size for her?? I hate how they pose the models so I can't tell how anything fits!

I went to my store yesterday and picked up the structured knit dress--it really is much prettier in person than online shows--not baggy at all--and yay sleeves! My store didn't have much; they've added a crewcuts section and thus reduced the women's area. I also bought a navy beach sweater and my husband got a shirt, but nothing else jumped out at me. I recently got the marble print top and navy textured jacquard dress and am waiting on the burgundy downtown field jacket and another dress--the colorblock tweed tux stripe dress that popped back in my size recently. So, I should be good.

    1. RJ - New stuff rolls out Tuesday, Aug 18th.

      but...

If you live on the west coast, the update happens around 9:10pm PST (which means you'll see the new stuff on the 17th). You might be able to use the promo, because it always ends close to midnight PST for the west coast.

Not so good for the east coast because of the three hour time difference.
I was able to buy a couple things using a 30% promo when the site updated last month.

      Delete
    2. It doesn't look like the web site was updated with new arrivals today?

      Delete
    3. The "old" code often works past midnight on the east code even when the new one appears on the site....and one can choose which code to use - the new or old promo.

      Delete
    4. This may change, since we know JC reads this blog...

      Delete
    5. It's a technical glitch that has been working on/off for years, just like many other glitches on their site....

      Delete
    6. Btw, the promo ends "at the same point of time" for all time zones, sure at a different time according to current time zone - e.g. midnight on the east code, 9 west. In other words, if I place an online order at 12.30 on the east coast, and at the same time a person on the west coast - we both are either able or unable use the "old" promo...So I don't see much advantage for either coasts.

On the contrary, updates often happen before/around 6am EST - a wake up time for many, hard to wake up at 3am being on the west coast, just to catch a pop-back...

So there is no advantage for west coasters...

      Delete
    7. Figures. Several of my SAs told me the new collection was going to come out today even in stores so I wonder if they said that yesterday in an attempt to be consistent... consistently wrong lol...

      Delete
    8. Also, I got an email that the 30% ends tonight. So I guess that means the website will be updated with new arrivals tomorrow, so the promo can't be applied. Maybe they'll surprise us with a promo on the new arrivals, but I have a feeling they won't, since they're ending the 30% promo. I couldn't even use that because I couldn't hit the $100 mark. I'll see if what I want is still hanging around in the winter, maybe I'll buy then.
