J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. The new arrivals are on the website and the GOSHOPPING promo (30% off) is working on some items. No free shipping which they usually offer on the new release day. Their is a new promo for 40% off sale items.

  2. I believe Promo Codes usually work until midnight PST as a courtesy to the West Coast folks. I grabbed a number of items from the new rollout. The 30% off code worked on everything I purchased, including a collection skirt.

  3. It doesn't look like any of the "new" items are eligible for a promo, it's just as well since there isn't much I am interested in and I just can't think about wool when there is a heat advisory outside. The prices will come down eventually, I'll wait.

    1. I got a few new items with the 30% off. Hope they ship that way!

  4. Interested in a couple of new items, but the artsy poses in the catalog & on website make it hard to get a good sense of fit. I'll wait for the always helpful JCA reviews & pix!

    1. I didn't like the poses either, made it hard to see what the clothes look like. You have to click on all the tabs for the item to get a better idea, and even then you can't always tell. I hate this about their "style guide", too. I guess it's just to get you interested, not to be actually a useful resource for ordering.

    2. Its almost like they're trying to hide what the really look like!

    3. If you hover the mouse over the color swatch it will show you the item flat so you can get a sense of the real shape...

  5. I reviewed the everly satin pumps on my blog; overall, great shoes but the satin covered heels can get dirty quickly!

  7. I guess I should have stayed up late last night! :-) I have quite a few pieces on my Wish List, but won't be buying anything at full price. I don't love them that much....

  8. I do have a review on the Mardi Gras necklace in the hot pink. Hated it! The color of the pink was radioactive and unwearable for me. Too bad, because I like the concept, but didn't feel like trying the peach colored one. The box it came in was flimsy too, as in cheap!

  9. A couple of recent purchases: The collection silk jungle ruffle hem dress (c6595) is LOVELY. The length would work on most -- I am only 5'2" and I it works fine, even with flats, although I think I will wear it with heels. It's on sale now for $180, which I feel is a very reasonable price.

The second item I definitely recommend is the birkenstock madrid exquisite sandals (b9509), currently on sale for $120 (down from an original $250). The exquisite line really is very nice and much easier to dress up (that's all relative, of course) than the cork versions. I also have the exquisite gizeh, and actually prefer the gizeh design, but the madrid does look a little more streamlined and I know some people don't like the strap between the toes. I have the black color way in both and I love both; if the white had a different color footbed I would get those too, but I just think the white footbed would end up looking dirty (and a little gross).

  10. Tried on the Sunday Slim chinos- SA said they ran big but I did not find that to be the case at all. They looked like serious mom pants in all three sizes I tried regardless.

    1. But also tried on the vintage scarf dress which is GREAT. Super flattering, not too low cut/short for work but easy to dress up/down.

    2. I liked them, but I don't necessarily object to mom pants :) I left my review of these on the new arrivals post, but I tried on 3 pairs and 2 of them seemed to run a bit big and 1 of them seemed TTS. I liked the two that ran a bit big because I was looking for a relaxed/slouchy chino style. For people who like the style, it might take some trial and error to find a pair that fits the way you want.

  11. I received the Cropped Top in Geo Brushstroke yesterday and while I do love the print, I had to drop it off at my tailor this morning to let down the hem. I know it was going to be cropped and I was expecting it to be short, but I did *not* expect my belly button to be exposed! :)
