J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I ordered the new sweater skirt in gold. It is lovely; very luxe looking. Despite two layers of material, it is definitely see-through! I am keeping it because it is exactly what I was looking for! Beautiful skirt!

  2. Got to a B&M late last week. 50% off the sale section, LOTS of merchandise but not much in the S range… either XXS or XL. Tried a few things from the new arrivals.

Seamed shell in crosshatch linen (c5939) - Tried my usual 4 and it felt a teeny bit tight in the upper back, but fine everywhere else and maybe even a little big under the arms. Didn’t have time to try a size up. It’s going to need a racerback bra because of the way the armholes are cut in.

Collarless popover in seashore stripe (c5262) - No 4, so I tried a 6 and it fit perfectly, making me think that 4 may be too small. I liked this one but I was expecting some turquoise in the stripes and that wasn’t the case at all - they were only light blue. Looked more like the catalog pic than the online pic.

Collarless popover in bengal stripe (c6731) - Now this one fit fine in 4, so I’m confused. Sizing seems to be so inconsistent! This one is cute, too - liked the pink color and it felt gauzy and cool.

Linen swing sweater (c5275) - LOVE that they didn’t do dropped shoulders on this. The olive moss color was more green than online. Very cute, TTS.

Pull-on skirt in nautical stripe (c5580) - tried 4 and it fit a little large, but I personally wouldn’t size down. These elastic-waisted skirts aren’t very flattering on me (they draw attention to my fuller lower half) but I like that it wasn’t too short.

Ikat wrap dress (c4244) - I definitely wanted to see this one IRL. The 4, fit but I feel like it was a little clingy on the bottom half (too many bagels for me lately!) and about an inch too short for me. Sizing up would’ve made it way too big in the bust. I liked it, but not $168-liked it.

Factory chevron linen-cotton dress in chevron stripe (c3381) - I really liked this one. Great weight for summer, lined, loved the pattern. It was HUGE (overall, but mostly in the top portion) in my regular 4 so I reordered in a 2.

    3. @rynetta -- You're welcome, Dr. ;)

@Ina - You have to connect thru FB or Google+ if you're not a subscriber. I had so much trouble. Try googling wsj + j crew. I was first able to get in that way.

I wanted to copy/paste the article into a post, but I think they would come after me. #aintgottime

    6. Thanks, Gigi! Interesting article; all points we have discussed here on Alexis' wonderful blog. It certainly looks as if they are on the way back. Hope the quality moves back up soon, too, because my pile of holey tees has just increased after this holiday weekend. :(

  8. Read the article online yesterday, then it was front page in my print version on the WSJ today (front page of the "personal journal" section). So exciting to see a JCA there and a some great points in the article. Loved the line about Jenna as the brand's "aspirational ringleader". ha.

  9. Harper woven mules - don't bother. I received them yesterday after ordering them nearly 2 weeks ago (!). They are stiff and cheaply made. Pattern is fine, but they are ill fitting and uncomfortable. I have easy-to-please (and fit) feet, so that's a big statement. Back they went.

  10. Double-stripe pencil skirt: YES! I prefer the mauve/soft pink one, but the black and whitish one is not bad either. great price on sale. Posted some review pictures on my blog.

The cotton pencil skirt: NO! The shape is just off, plus with the lining for some reason this skirt even a size up, keeps riding up and the lining gets caught up in a very un-flaterring way...I wish I could return but purchased on final sale. Very disappointed. Please bring back the cotton pencil skirt of previous seasons!

  11. Some more reviews - I think these are sold out, but maybe my reviews will help you decide if you want to watch for popbacks.

Whisper jersey short-sleeve nightshirt in stripe (c5758) - My usual S fit great, nice and comfy but not oversized. Gotta love the “Keep Away from Fire” internal tag like the other whisper jersey items. The blue stripes appeared a more faded indigo (not what I was expecting, I thought it would be a truer navy), and there was an odd seam running the entire front center that left a little “flap” that looks like the shirt was sewn together inside out. My concern is that upon washing this entire seam will crinkle up like a stripe of bacon, and I am NOT willing to iron sleep clothes. A reluctant return, but I don’t think it’s worth what I paid for it.

Indigo-striped drawstring short (c4117) - These are soft and TTS, but IMO they look just like the shorts I bought for my toddler at Carter’s the other day, elastic waist, metallic drawstring and all! No back pockets plus the rolled cuffs and the softer fabric looked like I was wearing a pair of my husband’s boxers. These also had that odd seam running down the front of both legs, which I guess is supposed to add visual interest but I think they’d need to be ironed, making them too high-maintenance for summer clothes.
