Sale on sale: Up to 75% Off Starts Now {not really}

"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know about the following promotion this morning.

J.Crew is offering customers to take "up to an extra 75% off". But really it is an extra 25% off select regular priced styles and an extra 30% or 50% off sale styles, with promo code THEBEST. The offer expires April 19, 2015. The fine print includes:
*Total discount from original price includes current sale price together with redemption of 30% or 50% discount using promo code THEBEST. 30% discount valid on the purchase of sale items in J.Crew stores and at jcrew.com. 50% discount valid on the purchase of final sale items marked "Extra 50% off with code THEBEST" at jcrew.com. Valid from April 15, 2015, 12:01am ET through April 19, 2015, 11:59pm ET. Not valid in the 769 Madison Avenue store, Liquor Store, Ludlow Shops or J.Crew Factory stores; at jcrewfactory.com; or on phone orders. Cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards and cannot be redeemed for cash or combined with any other promo. In-store discount automatically taken at the register. To redeem online, enter THEBEST in the promo code box at checkout. Limit one promo code per order. Valid in the U.S. and Canada only. Terms of offer subject to change. Final sale items cannot be returned or exchanged.

Well... reading the email that we are getting up to 75% off seems misleading. Especially since this is the same promotion that we have seen this past week. Sigh. Oh well, always happy to see another promotion online at J.Crew.

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? What item are you hoping to pick up? Please share!

  1. It's a gimmick... Very misleading
But the cashmere infinity scarf today is 50% off with promo... I got my yesterday, and got an adjustment this morning... Very good price $35) for gray and beige color... Otherwise it's all boring... I did snap up Valentina pumps in black size 8 yesterday with 30% off(about $125)... Hoping to have them adjusted at store for 40% off. Are the stores still offering 40% off... ?

  2. My store was giving a 40% off last night. OT, but welcome- I saw 2 beautiful shirts that are not on line. One was a linen pullover with gorgeous embroidery at the bottom of the front. There was also a nicely made pleated cotton tank. It looked so promising, but then I noticed it seemed to have a sheer section that ran right across the bust-line. It seems like there might be some better fabrics in store. The manager told me new arrivals were coming on Monday and that there were more linen pieces coming in.

  3. Well they certainly got me to check out the sale section but as soon as I realized there were no deals to be had I stopped looking. They must be hurting for sale shopping if they have to trick us like that! I made several purchases last week, including a leather pencil skirt so I don't plan on shopping this sale.

  4. It is really lame considering they have been offering 40% off sale in store for a while now. I went to my store on Monday and they had actually expanded the sale section!

  5. Are stores are still offering 40% off sale & has anyone seen the May catalog out at the store? Wondering if it is worth a trip to the B&M today at lunchtime . . .

    1. I described all the new stuff from the catalog in the reviews section.
Love the jungle and the tropical fronds print!

    2. Thanks, Ina! I will wait patiently for my catalog in the mail; the store I visited at lunch today had absolutely NO catalogs out.

    1. Agree! Went in at lunch to take a look around. Not much looked appealing so I left without making a purchase. The 40% sale section was packed but I don't have a lot of time to try on and it's final sale so no thank you.

  7. I purchased a dress on Sunday for $103.60, but online today it is $83.99... would Jcrew give me a price adjustment if I call? I dont want to waste my time but I would like to save $20.

    1. Easiest to do it at the store. But you can email them the receipt to see if they will honor it... But definitely the store should work

  8. I grabbed a pop-back of the laser-cut floral shift dress in dark cognac. I had wanted a tall (I'm not tall, but I wanted the extra length), and it had been sold out in my size for a while.

Keeping fingers crossed that it actually ships! I want it to wear to our graduation ceremony this year.

  9. I tried on the perforated a-line dress today and love it (6). I put it on hold. The black looks dressy on me and I'm not sure I need another lbd. I need to see if I can wear a shirt over it to treat it like a skirt. Thumbsup, though.

In other news, in this post today I talked about feeling invisible. Not a J Crew topic, but the discussion has been lively and interesting.

  10. I was able to get a couple of thinsulate lady day coats (navy and lilac) and the chateau parka in navy in my size. I don't need any more coats, but the end of season prices are great and the lady day coat is still my all time favorite coat, and the chateau parka has gotten nothing but raves.

I also received the collection eyelet dress in black, and it is gorgeous, TTS. Hard to find black eyelet.

Other than that, no spring clothing purchases for me, which my closet is happy about.

  11. It does say up to 75% off *original prices*, but it made me check the sale section just to find out the prices haven't changed on anything I was interested in. On the regular price side, I'm considering a couple of shirts but I could have had those at 30% off with FACEBOOK a couple of days ago so why would I get them now?

I've just received the Sleeveless silk shell in aquatic floral (c4041). According to some of the reviewers on the website, the blouse runs a bit small but that wasn't my case. In fact, it's a bit large in the chest and arm holes. (I took my regular size 4, and am 32C-34D depending on the bra maker.) I still maintain that proper bust darts would solve a lot of these issues. The print and colors are lovely. As most of you probably know, the silk is not of the best quality but they don't pretend it to be and the price reflects that. Whether I keep it or not (despite the fit issues) will depend on how I feel about the Cutaway linen jacket (a6393). That one is on it's way to me, and I had planned on wearing the two together.

  12. There is a current offer for AmEx for J Crew, spend $125 get $25 back, my offer is good until 5/31/15. Just in case there is something you want and like me, you have no chance of getting a J Crew reward this time.

  13. I just came back from a trip to B&M store and was surprised to see and e-mail " Lots and lots of layers" from J Crew, featuring new knits and tees. Oddly, the peplum shirt that was the photo in the email was on sale....
