Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I've been searching for alternatives to the excursion vest and reviewed two options from Old Navy and Talbots in this post. Both options come in regular and extended sizing, which is great if you are sized out of the excursion.

  2. I'd been wanting a new cashmere hoodie in some amazing color like azure blue, and last night went straight to JC website to see theirs, because they always have the great colors, right? No! they had only charcoal, black, navy, camel, etc. Is this cause they're on promo and they'll bring back the pretty colors when they're fp?
Anyway, I stumbled onto the macy's website (have never shopped there before) and THEY had their in-house cashmere hoodies in all those amazing colors, even kelly green. Thought I'd try one for a lark, even though I'm sure quality will be meh, but I haven't been super impressed by JC cashmere recently anyway. At least they had the COLORS. :)

    1. The quality of Macy's cashmere hoodie was really bad when I tried it a year or two ago. I took it back before I even wore it. It was just bad, which I didn't notice that much in the store. Maybe they've improved them since then. The one I tried was a full zip.

    2. Agreed - I got a grey long-sleeved cashmere tee from there a couple years ago, and after about a month I had no choice but to put it in the garbage, it was in such terrible shape. JC's cashmere reviews are definitely mixed, and on some of the items the reviews are just plain bad. Is anybody doing good cashmere these days?

    3. Have you looked at Pure Collection? It's a UK brand that appears to use ethically sourced cashmere. Pricing is slightly higher than JC's, but at least based on the one sweater I've ordered, Pure's quality is higher as well. Shipping was free but not terribly fast (I don't think they have a US warehouse), and packaging, CS, etc, was excellent. Lots of color, too!

    4. Oh I will check them out, thanks!

    5. Can anyone comment on the bloomingdale's house cashmere (i.e. C by Bloomingdale's)? I just ordered a cardigan from that label (it was very reasonable for cashmere), but since Macy's and Bloomies are the same company, I'm worried that the bloomies quality will also be bad. Thanks!

  3. oh darn, well returns are free which is nice. I seem to always read that any cashmere under $500 just won't be that great. My standard for many years was merino, which was woven tight enough not to pill (pills are what I can't stand, I can tolerate some itchiness), but now I'm even finding some merino from JC and BR that are fuzzing up and pilling. not acceptable.

  5. Might be off topic but does anyone have any experience with how JBrand skinny jeans run? In the jcrew jeans I tend to be a 30 if that helps and 29 or 30 in Pilcro depending on style. 8 in loft.

    1. I'd stick w/a 30. IMO, they don't run big, especially their skinnies.
