For the past year or two, I have been looking at Madewell dresses. The style (pear-shape friendly), material (machine wash friendly), and price tag (less than $130) are better for me.

A small issue I have with some of the dresses deal with length. (This is a similar complaint for J.Crew dresses as well.) Take for instance the  Matinee Dress (item B1412; $138.00 now $128.00). This is a super pretty dress (as I love the cap sleeves, fitted waist, and full skirt!) However, it is 35 1/2" long from the shoulder to hem. I have to wear shorts or tights underneath to make sure I am not exposing anything by accident. ;)

Will you be taking advantage of this promotion at Madewell? What Madewell item are you hoping to pick up? Please share!

  1. Thanks for the mention, Alexis! I agree with you about the dress lengths, and am always thrilled to see the ones with the longer hem lines. It seems they used to mainly make the shorter ones, but a lot more of the dresses lately are longer, thankfully! I usually stay away from the shorter ones, but if I were to get one, I would wear it as a tunic over jeans or leggings. I took advantage of the last promotion to order several items, so I'll probably be sitting this one out.

    2. Melissa, glad to hear I am not the only one who finds some of the lengths on the dresses short. Leggings are a great idea too! :)

  2. Looks like some new markdowns in the sale section, too. The all-weather outbound jacket is still available in x-small for $29.99. Highly recommend!

    2. ooh, thanks for the head's up! now there are some things living in my cart ... hope we get a 30 percent or 40 percent off sale code sometime soon. I want those tux sweatpants ... just not even for the $60 sale price.

  3. Agree about the dresses... I really like some of their styles/materials but the length makes them a no go for me. I saw the anytime dress in store and it was SO nice, but I'm 5'10" and usually need something to be at least 40" from shoulder to hem to work for me. Not sure how they get them to look normal length on the models (skimming top of knee).

    1. I totally agree. I'm 5'10 as well and it such a bummer to see a cute dress that's 35'" from shoulder to hem. I wish madewell offered tall sizing. It would hurt my wallet but I'd be okay with that:)

  4. Not a dress or a shoe, but I received the Skinny Skinny Crop jeans in Tempest wash last night (on sale for $89.50). The material and fit of the jeans is fantastic. However, I did send them back because they are actually a little *too* short on me. I wanted them to be ankle jeans and they hit a bit above the ankle. Its an awkward length. Also, the color is dark, dark navy, almost black. I have a pair of black jeans and I didn't think this color offered anything different from these. I did order another pair of regular length in a different wash because I can tell they fit great.

  5. Being a shortie, I think Madewell is perfect! I did try the Silk Garden Gate dress recently though and found it way too large especially compared to Madewell's other dresses. The color and fabric is beautiful - I'd encourage taller ladies to give it a try!
