Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  2. Hi JCA's - I tried a couple of pieces at LE that I liked a lot.

Girls' Down Vest - Nice and lightweight but warm for fall. I'm a S/4 in JC tops and got the L(14) in this and the fit is great - I can snap it up all the way over a thinner sweater. The smaller quilting on the side gives it a nice shape, and I like the longer length in the back. The price is right, even more so if you can get an additional %, which LE does frequently.

3/4 sleeve Lofty Blend Cable Pullover Sweater - whoa, that's quite a handle! This is what I wished JC's too-boxy, too-short cable sweater (08873) was last winter. This one has a more open neckline and longer length. I chose the S so that I could layer. It's definitely not an Aran Crafts sweater - the weave is a little more open and I think it's more fall than dead of winter.

Cotton Open V-Neck Cardigan Sweater - Geez, what is it with these long names? Anyway, this is a heavy cotton sweater that I could wear now as a jacket and layer later. Got an XS and it is a perfect fit. Most open cardigans that I've seen this season have dropped shoulders (HATE) and this one does not, which is a much better look for me. "French Pecan Heather" is true to the website image.

    1. I've been looking at the LE cable sweater too...love the colors, but I've been hesitant about whether it will be warm enough for winter. I just picked up a cable sweater at Gap that I really like as well:

    2. Can't go wrong with LE's return policy either -- no 30 or 60 day limits, no final sale. Return anything, anytime if your not satisfied. Makes me want to give them more business just on principle. Nordstrom too!

    3. I completely agree about Lands' End. I post on a regular basis about them on my blog, and their items get featured frequently in my 'You Look Very Familiar' segment, too. The fact that they back their products 100% for a lifetime and offer free shipping on $50+ with regular sales, makes shopping with them very appealing. Not to mention that they have really upped their game when it comes to the styles and prints they offer.

Nordstrom just blows every other retailer out of the water hands down with their free shipping and free returns, price matching, 100% satisfaction guarantee, and superb customer service. Shopping with them is always worry free and pleasant.

  4. Zara. Woah! Looks quite similar to JC's offerings this season, but less expensive. For you Zara shoppers, what is the quality like nowadays? I won't bother to order if it's the same quality as H&M. Thxs.

I keep repeating this, but Boden has a few classic JC pieces. I'm not crazy about Boden floral/geometric prints, but that leopard trench is the cat's meow. The quality is comparable to JC, I think.

    1. Personally I think Zara's quality is much better than H&M-and the styles are more intricate. H&M always feels like cookie cutter clothes, if that makes sense lol

  6. How do you all feel about Zara sizing? Do you usually size up? I don't live by one but have ordered in the past. Quality great but sizing inconsistent so that has deterred me from ordering again.

    1. hi natalie-
I am size 0 in pencil skirts and pants in jcrew. I wear size 2 in jcrew schoolboys as well as most of the coats- some I can wear 0 but mostly size 2 is my size. jcrew sweater i am mostly in xs but with some oversized ones, i am getting xxs. toothpick, i am size 26 and 27.
Zara- it run smaller than jcrew. most of the zara size i have been getting are size small. Some coats I tried on, i could fit into xs as well so i have both xs and small in coats. pants, mostly small fits and number size pants, size 4 worked the best. Zara have weekly rollouts so i have been so excited to look online. They don't have sales very much so I don't feel bad buying full price. I hear they have an awesome sale after x-mas. HTH!

  7. OT just got an email about new arrivals at J.Crew Factory. The usual 30% off prices as marked and free shipping. I haven't tried yet, but I think it should stack with the Gilt 30% off voucher.

  10. Hello, all!

Boden started their diminishing discount promo on Sunday. The 20% off part of the sale ends tonight, so shop before midnight, or else it reverts to 15% (which is their "typical" % off).

Anyhow, wrote more on it here at this blog post.

  11. I ordered this plaid trench from Loft and it is amazing. Don't let the terrible on-line photos and bad styling dissuade you. If you can score it on promo it's a real steal...iit looks much more expensive. A couple of years ago I ordered the Alexa Chung plaid trench from Madewell at almost double the price but I returned it because I didn't love the fit and tailoring. I'm glad I waited, this one is much nicer...you would never guess it is from Loft. I Iactually would have never noticed if Gigi hadn't brought it to my attention here.
