  1. I did get this email, but probably will not take advantage of the promotion since the item I'm interested in has been around for awhile. Speaking of which, I was wondering if anyone has tried the Factory funnelneck sweatshirt and can comment on quality, sizing, etc.?

    1. i have....My thoughts are the feeling of the material is "icky" feels like poor quality. not soft and lux like some of the $$ retail sweatshirts. No comparison really...it is not worth it IMO. if possible buy the retails closest version...it 100% better... Carolyn

    2. I have last year's version and I bought my regular size. I did find it a teeny bit small, but I could still layer. It pilled horribly, so hopefully it's better with this year's version.

    3. Thank you Carolyn and Wendy. I think I'll just save my money for something else or look for the retail version on Ebay.

  4. OT- I got the harper flats in calf hair leopard....I'm normally a 8.5 but based on reviews I got a 9...but I feel like it may be too long? What do the JCA's think? try the 8.5 or will they be too tight? I could keep these and just use a heel pad so I don't slip out....ugh what to do (I'm overseas- but will hopefully be back in the US in three weeks to order/try on the 8.5 to compare and I think I'll be under my 60 day return window)

    1. Funny you mention the sizing. I bought two pairs of shoes from J crew at my normal size and I felt they were a little long. Is jcrew doing vanity sizing on our feet? Can you exchange for your normal size and compare?

    2. Me too - bought a pair of flats recently in my normal (aka 1/2 size down) J Crew size & they're too big.

    3. I'm an 8.5 shoe size as well. Purchased the Dulci pumps and had to size down to an 8. The 8.50 was wayyyyyy to long but the 8 fits perfectly.

  5. I looked at the email but don't see anything that interests me. There are some thing I want but don't need (until an awesome sale hits), and I'm also not in a shopping mood. Good for my wallet!

  6. I bought the Camel sweater (item a9035). I wanted last year's retail version, but could never catch it in my size at the sale price, and wasn't willing to pay a ton for such a novelty piece that I would only wear once or twice a season. But with the Gilt 30% promo, it brought the sweater down to a little over $40. Now that I can do!

  7. thought I would grab a new winter coat today with this link and the 30 percent off Gilt promotion, but I read the fine print for the Gilt code and apparently outerwear is excluded. this is a change from last year, when I got two cocoon coats using the Gilt promo. disappointing.

    1. Although the fine print says the discount won't work on outerwear, when I added the toggle coat (and puffer coat) to my cart the discount worked. Still doesn't work on puffer vests.

  8. OT - Tom Mora talks about not so precious sequins and how yes, you can wear those Bermuda shorts to work (1:11 total).

    1. I have one from last year, and was very please with the quality and softness. Like all J.Crew cashmere it does pill. I think its worth it and the price point is better.

  11. Can anyone comment on the SHIRTTAIL MINI SHIRT from last reason for fit and material?

    Thanks in advance~

    1. Elaine - I haven't tried the shirttail mini, but it's 16.5" whereas they've lengthened some of the minis to 17." I wear 6 in J. Crew, but would probably go for an 8 to get that extra 1/4" in material for length.

ShOperaRach reivewed it in black and in cobalt. HTH :)

    2. Thx Gigi! I chatted with a SA and it turns out that the material is 70% wool and 30% viscose/rayon whereas the retail mini is 100% wool. So I didn't pick it up.

  12. I am *supposed* to be doing a "no shop September" but with the Gilt coupon I ordered the new plaid flannel shirt in the grey/mustard colorway & the jeweled-front oxford. Oh J Crew, I wish I could quit you.

  13. OT: Madewell added new arrivals to their website earlier this week, plus they are offering an extra 30% off select fall styles with code ADDTOBAG until tomorrow. I've shared my New Arrival picks, as well as the link to the styles eligible for the extra 30% off in this post on my blog today. As always, there is plenty to love at Madewell. :)

  15. Has anyone tried on the factory city coat? I am loving it in pink, but am wondering how it compares to the retail cocoon coat in quality and fit.

    ReplyDelete

    1. frockgirl - I posted an Instapic of the city coat yesterday. Size down one, imo. I thought it's the same and they didn't mess w/the fit, but they actually changed it from a long zipper to hidden buttons. I still give it a thumbsup.

Comparison of last year's retail cocoon to the factory version in this post.

      HTH :)
