JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Will anyone share how they have worn the Collection eyelet flounce top?

The eyelet is gorgeous -- as JC eyelet often is -- but the lower tier of the eyelet sleeve throws me off. I am tempted to cut that bottom tier out, but of course, that tier is the prettiest eyelet of all...

    1. Hi Audrey. I have the eyelet flounce in black. I just got it last week and the initial plan is with white jeans, flat sandals and drop earrings. Since the sleeves are full, I'll probably always keep a slim silhouette on the bottom. Don't cut!!

    2. Thx Gigi. I'll have to try on some different bottoms. The top is interesting and the eyelet is so pretty, but it definitely does not look good w/ pajama bottoms! I saw on your site that you tried the 4 and 6 and picked the 4 -- I am in the same boat, but am leaning towards the 6 -- I just feel better with easy full range of motion, even if it means a little shapeless. Maybe that's why it doesn't look great (in addition to the pjs) -- slightly large and shapeless + fullness is maybe too much. I'll have to try the 4 again; glad I did not return it yet...

    3. Audrey - I got the measurements. I guess I didn't note them on the Irl Pic Guide. Anyway, based on the measurements I decided to feel confident that the 4 was the right size. I kwym about wanting to feel movement. The 4 will have to work because I returned the 6. lol

  2. Looking for some advice from my Southern JCAs (or really, anyone...) This might be a silly question btu I'm asking it anyway. I'm traveling to South Carolina at the end of September...wondering what the norm was for white after Labor Day? Is that even still a thing? In NY, I pack the whites away with my summer clothes but just curious if as long as the weather dictates are white jeans or a white dress ok? Thanks in advance... :)

    1. Dear Anne - No white after Labor Day = Not a thing anymore. The key is to wear temperature and situation-appropriate white. I live in the mid-Atlantic and tend to pack things like white skinny crops away after mid-September (it's still steamy around here until then), but wear white/off-white full-length jeans and cords through Fall and Winter. A white summer dress is probably fine if the temperature is warm enough, even white crops if you will be at the beach. The reason people live in the South is so they don't have to wear wool!

    2. @JenniferD - thanks! good point about the crops vs. full length jeans...I felt a little silly asking...appreciate the feedback. We will be at the beach!

    3. I say wear your white jeans but fall them up a bit with a darker top. Black, burgundy, navy, would all be good choices. Then you could add some matching sandals & a bracelet stack &/or necklace.

    4. I live in Charleston and it's still hot here in September so I still wear white. Locals live in shorts, too, so white doesn't seem out of place. Even though it's still warm through most of October, I do put my white capris away but I still wear my white jeans.

    5. @shopping celle and @math teacher thank you both for the advice and suggestions! Sounds like full length white jeans are the way to go!
