J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

    1. Thanks, Dmitri - I like the idea of some "longevity" reviews to see how things are holding up!

    2. Thanks for the reviews! Please post if you ever find a cable sweater that you like. The Madewell one was disappointing, it was so close to working. I've been happy with my Janeys too. My black ones have seen the most wear and they're doing well too. I always think I'm going to scuff up the heel but so far so good.

    3. thanks ladies :)

and yes, cate, will do! i ordered several at the beginning of the month from all sorts of retailers...many of them are backordered, but hopefully will arrive by the time it gets chillier where i'm at!

    4. You are doing my research for me! ;D Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for your posts! I have been on the (lazy) hunt for the perfect cable sweater for a long time.

  2. Elbow-patch sweater (04278) - They missed the mark on it for me. Too boxy (maybe even too A-line?), too itchy. I was expecting a more tan sweater like the model pic and it was more ivory like the item pic. I could not believe how itchy the sweater was and things like that don't typically bother me too much. The elbow patches kinda lined up with my elbows, but I had long arms. The SA's in my B&M said that I should size down but then I think the slouchiness is lost. Love the idea, don't love the execution on me. I am interested to see how this lambswool does after a few wearings.

Stretch herringbone skinny cargo pant (04759) - I wanted to try these after seeing them in the catalog image and I think they're very cute IRL. TTS to size up - they say stretch but did not feel very stretchy to me. They're definitely charcoaly - it's hard to see the herringbone in the weave unless you're looking right at it, and the fabric is nubby like the description. Unlike what the CFS says, these are NOT supersoft like cotton. They are not lined and will probably itch some of you. I can see these getting a lot of wear this fall as I'm looking for some non-jean pant options.

    1. I agree with silver_lining about the elbow patch sweater. I didn't try to wear a shirt under it, but I don't like to buy items that I can't wear next to my skin.

    2. I agree too. It was too short and sort of hit me at my widest spot giving my upper body an egg shape. The Madewell Viewpoint sweater is a better sweater in the same category (longer and thicker) but unfortunately I was sized out (XS is too big and it doesn't come in XXS).

  3. Collection leather/tweed skirt - First off, Dear Mickey did not listen to my complaints a few seasons ago when my Collection leather jacket cam wrapped in brown paper - Guess how the leather skirt came packaged?

But.... the skirt is beautiful! My VPS suggested I size up so its work appropriate and she was right. The skirt is a little big though so I hope the leather doesn't stretch. The leather is perfect, the front tweed a little chevron looking but very nice. Pocket placement is great. Highly recommend the skirt if you are looking for a less "in your face" alternative to the full on leather trend.

  4. A review of the navy glitter Kikis here:

These fit identical to other Kikis and are SO pretty and well-constructed! Very fun!

  5. Off topic, but are any guys on? Want to get the loud low topcoat for my husband....is 25% off the best deal for that item? Somehow I suspect the pricing games are different than for the women's line. Thanks.

    1. Hi Flower Power - I think that 25% is probably the best you're going to get on the Ludlow unless there's a 30% sitewide promo for cardholders (which we haven't seen in a while). There may be an outerwear promo sometime in the fall, but based on previous years I'm going to guess that it won't be more than 25%. You could always purchase with SHOPFALL and see if it goes on promo in the coming weeks. It's such a guessing game with JC and I don't want to steer you wrong... just giving my $0.02. It's a handsome coat!

  6. I purchased the graphite (really grey) pencil skirt with front pockets (item 03013): I LOVE the skirt. Fits true to size (though I was tempted to size up for length....ahhhh the pain of the tall girl). The skirt gives a nice pencil line, the front pockets provide a little edge to the style as well. The 'graphite' color is very versatile and can be paired with all the silk shirts I have piled on over the years :)

Also purchased the tipped double-serge wool skirt (item 03427). This is a similar shape but I sized up for length on this as there is not much material to let the hem down. Very pretty and well designed skirt - recommend! I believe Gigi has review pictures on her website.

The silk keyhole top in neon coral is a pretty color, the opening in front is pretty deep though, fyi. Fits true to size with some room.

The jeweled satin shell was cute but once one of the embellishments falls, I could see the shell being worthless, just my opinion but it is pretty. Fits true to size

The short sleeved embellished shirt is a heavy cotton, same issue as above, but very pretty. Fits true to size

  7. Not a review but...leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow. Have a mostly JCrew wardrobe. Any recommendations for what to wear?

    1. Crewmum - I'm going next week. I'm taking my Andie's with a L/S and S/S denim shirts for the day, my Cece Ballet Flats (used them in NYC with no issues) for the day. For night, I'm taking my black Scalloped Dress, one of my Fluted skirts (probably the black one) and a Swoop top (in the Brown, maybe), Navy Schoolboy Blazer, a Jackie or two and also a Jean Jacket. I'll take my mini-Bromptom for day and a clutch for night. Not sure about night-time shoes, may stick with my dressier flats or a 2-inch heel. HTH!

      Delete
    2. I agree with Audreybella on the shoes. Lots of walking in Las Vegas no matter what you plan to do. Lower heels are better. It's still in the 90s during the day but is cooling down very nicely at night. Just don't plan on shopping J. Crew - there is no longer a store in Las Vegas. There is a factory store in the outlet mall.

  8. The Merino scarf sweater (#03299) is gorgeous and super soft. It's thicker than Tippis usually are, and I think it will be very warm for late fall/winter wear. I haven't had the chance to wear it yet, but when I do I'll comment on the durability. It seems like it'll last. It's sold out online, but I'm sure it's still available in stores.

I also got the skinny skinny ankle motorcycle jeans from Madewell (#03709). I sized down to a 24 (usually a 25) as they stretch out over time. They are a great alternative to leather pants and are more comfortable.

    1. FriendlyFemme--I recently bought the Madewell skinny skinny ankle coated motorcycle jeans and I normally wear a 24, so I can't size down. I've only put them on a handful of times to try them with different tops and the fit seems perfect--they haven't stretched out at all. I'm worried about your comment that they stretch out over time. Have you worn them for a long period of time? What stretched out? The waist, knees? Thanks so much for your help! :)

      Delete
    2. The waist did for me, but that's after wearing them all day or night. It wasn't a terrible stretching, just what tends to happen with skinny jeans.

  9. I got an order from the new roll out yesterday. I posted about the embroidered front tee 07293 yesterday, but thought I'd repeat it here under reviews too. I got the tee in all three colors. My favorite is the ivory/light gray. I also like the ivory and black one also but will be returning the navy/burgundy - I just didn't like it on me as well as the others (and I don't need three!) I wear a M or L depending on the cut of the tshirt. I got the L because I've found that JCrew's tees with embroidered fronts often run small. These are a little big but I'm going to keep them because I like the longer length that the L gives me. I think they are beautifully made.

elbow patch sweater 04278 - I sized down to a medium (I also take a L in a Tippi for example) and it fit perfectly - a little swingy without being sloppy. I love the heather sky color. The elbow patches are right on my elbow. I like it enough to get more colors when there is a better sale. To me it's definitely a jeans sweater rather than a leggings sweater. Length is right at the top of my legs (I'm 5' 7".)

Double-cloth Sabrina coat 06286 celery - I ordered this coat in a size 12 and it is at least 6" too big. I can "just" button a size 12 Lady Day coat for reference. Love the celery color - a true light mint green, so I've reordered it in a 10 to see how that is.

Ruffle-collar sweatshirt in grey 04634 - I ordered a medium and a large but neither worked out for me. The medium was too small in the body and the large was huge. There seemed to be too much of a difference between the medium and the large. The white ruffle collar is cute but is just attached to a kind of a plain old sweatshirt - very comfy but not worth the price to me even if it fit. I'll see how the blue color runs when it ships in October.

Wool-linen plaid scarf 07065 - the description says that it is orange purple but I could tell from the stock picture that it looked like it was navy and red and it is. Not a hint of purple or orange in it. It's just ok - so it's going back.

Stretch herringbone skinny cargo pant 04759 - I didn't find them itchy but not very stretchy. I like the herringbone fabric but the fit on me wasn't great, so they're going back too.

    Hope this helps!

    1. Last years cocoon coat I bought in 10...I could not button a 12 in the lday day coat either. I took a 10 in the duffle but should have tried the 12 just in case. I am a medium in the down vests.. I take a med in tippis and x-large in t shirts anywhere from a 12 to 14 in shiets and tops... ..sizes are all over the place.

    2. I got the neon azalea Sabrina coat in a shipment today - like the other one I posted about, it is too big in a 12 and the pink is the brightest highlighter neon pink you can imagine. I kind of like it - we'll see how a 10 fits.

  10. I'm sure this thread has happened before, but I'm contemplating an Etta purchase and wanted to hear some JCA wisdom on sizing...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Professor Brady - I am a consistent size 7 in JC shoes and the Etta's fit TTS for me in that size. The heel height is out of my normal range that I'd like to wear but they are comfortable with the padding and slight interior platform. HTH!

      Delete
    2. The Etta is the only J. Crew shoe in which I take my regular shoe size and not half a size bigger. They are also wider in the toe and throughout the foot than other J. Crew shoes. I only have one pair (the leopard calf hair ones), but that is my experience with that pair and others I've tried on but not purchased.

    3. Thanks, audreybella and Blakemdjohns! Looks like I can take my regular size!

    1. Cousy, I tried it on last week. It is gorgeous and in my opinion, true to size. I think it would be a great basic item. The merino is substantial and it looked good open and closed. The zipper and snaps are bright gold. I loved it but am waiting for markdown because I have many navy cardigans and jackets. I have seen reviews on JCA that the pink version is beautiful, too.

  14. I received my Grande crystal drops necklace yesterday and I love it. It's enormous and incredibly sparkly. The necklace has a good weight to it and is very dramatic, but would work equally well with a dress as it would with pants and a T-shirt. I got it on sale for $112 including tax and free shipping and it was well worth it. Now I wish the earrings to go with it were still available on the site, I'm not seeing them up anymore!

  15. Okay, last week's "Questionable Item of the Week" discussion was stressful, but my nomination isn't about fashion - its a baby toy.

I laughed myself silly last night when I saw J Crew's "Oeuf Limo " (#06221). First, the idea of selling (or buying) a stuffed alpaca limousine seems ridiculous. And $76 is a little steep. But it gets better - these toys are made by "indigenous women (whose crafts) enable them to afford proper health care and an education for their children".

Crazier still? The listed color is "Heather Carbon", as in the substance produced by limos that is ruining the environment.

Perhaps I should nominate this as the "Ironic Item of the Week"? Or the "One Percent Item of the Week"? Or the "Outrageously Oblivious Item of the Week?

    1. I don't get buying a baby a cashmere sweater.

    2. Lol!! I appreciate the cause, but hard to picture a stuffed limo being baby's favorite to hug. It gets better, though, did you see item # 06222? A stuffed pigeon by the same company :D Bet that model in Venice wishes she had those instead the real things!

  16. Anyone seen the Scallop-trim mini in pinot noir? How is the color in person? I was waiting for it to hit sale before ordering it…but it has been sold out in my size for a while now.

  17. Ordered the jeweled houndstooth captains coat...It fits slightly big and the smaller of my two sizes was more than enough room. Mine arrived with two stones already missing from the collar straight out of the box. Also I have long hair and the prongs kept ripping hair out even in just the few minutes while trying on. What I didn't care for most though was the large black plastic buttons with the anchors on them inscribed on them. It just didn't seem to fit with the coat and they looked kinda cheap IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  18. This is kind of old news, but if anyone is eyeing them in the sale section: I ordered two of the Drapey Sailor Tees (nope, still not striped out :), and I really like them for under blazers and cardigans (and I'm sure they'll be great next spring).

I got both the grey and oatmeal colors in XS (for reference, I wear a S in perfect tees and waver between S and XS in other J Crew shirts. I'm definitely am glad I took the smaller size in these). They're still nicely oversized in the body, and the fabric has a really nice drape. It is pretty see through though, and in spite of the wool content, they're certainly lightweight. The colors are great, and it was nice to find the tan and white stripes, which seems to be an elusive color combination.

The only things I didn't love about them is that the boatneck is cut straight across (as someone mentioned on their blog) which may not be flattering for some--although you obviously can't tell if you are wearing a scarf. And I hadn't noticed in the stock photo, but the neckline has random bright contrast stitching--the oatmeal has neon green and the grey has a purpley-navy. It's not super noticeable, but I thought it was kind of a superfluous addition to a nice, basic shirt.

  20. Ten days ago I picked up two necklaces at my local B&M, the Mixed Crystal and Resin necklace, and the Crystal and Stone Row necklace in gray. I love both, and can't believe what a deal I got since they were on sale and then had an additional 30% off. I don't like how I found them, however, all tangled up on a peg, and some in a pile just underneath. Stones get scratched that way. Oh well.

The Bulgari exhibit at the de Young Museum in San Francisco just started. Planning on wearing one of my new necklaces when I go!

  21. Painter button boatneck tee in black: purchased in an attempt to find a new go-to boatneck, since Factory is not making them in black this year (posted a vent about this a couple of weeks ago). Totally underwhelmed by the non-factory tee this year. Other colors might not have this problem, but black looks more like faded black, and the fabric does seem somewhat thinner than previous versions. Sending this back, going to keep looking for a better option from another company.

  22. I tried the beaded baseball cap yesterday just for fun, and I love it. It is surprisingly flattering and will be warm in cooler months. It is unlikely I'd get enough wear to justify the price, but wanted to let you all know that it is really nicely made and felt like a feminine style for a baseball cap.

  24. For anyone wanting a pretty but everyday crystal necklace, I highly recommend the crystal wildflowers necklace in crystal (07773, $59.50). I would not have even noticed it online because I am sort of maxed out on JC jewelry, but I was in-store the other day just to see if I wanted anything while the 25% promo is going on, and this was actually my only purchase. I have the flower lattice necklace, which is gorgeous, but heavy and a bit much for everyday wear, but this wildflowers necklace is perfect -- substantial w/o being heavy, and much nicer that what you would expect from JC jewelry at $60 retail. (On the other hand, I was not much impressed by the color versions.)

  26. Anyone know if the Stretch Cargo Skinny Herringbone pants fit similarly to the Skinny Utility Chinos? I see that the fabric content is different and wonder if that makes a difference in how they fit. I didn't love how the Chinos looked on me, but would really like a patterned pant like the herringbone for Fall. thanks!

  27. Received most of my order in the mail today.

Elbow-patch sweater: I have broad shoulders so don't can't pull off the swingy or oversize look -- it just makes me look bigger, so I sized down for this. If you like the oversize style, I would stay with your regular size. The edge of the elbow patch hits where my elbows are, and I have pretty long arms, so I'd say the placement is pretty off. You have to scrunch the sleeve a little to make the placement look right. Another thing is that there isn't much of a high-low hem, it's pretty even, so it just looks like your basic sweater with misplaced elbow patches. Not that special IMO.

Schoolboy blazer in houndstooth tweed was a surprising love for me. I usually don't do menswear-type things and would have preferred this print/coloring as pants (without the exorbitant collection price tag) but the colors were differentiated enough to give it a sharp look. Definitely don't need another schoolboy blazer but keeping this one.

Chandelier sweatshirt: on the fence about this one, which is surprising b/c this was one item I wanted if nothing else. The fit is TTS, albeit a bit boxier than I like but what do you expect from a sweatshirt? IRL it just looks a bit.. overdone?.. to me. But that could be because I'm not used to wearing a lot of jeweled things and it looks super bling-y for a SAHM of a toddler. Haven't decided whether I will keep or not.

Stadium cloth coccoon coat: sized down in this one and still have plenty of room for thick sweaters. I got the crimson maple and it's a nice burgundy color that I don't think will ever go out of style during any winter. However, the stadium cloth is definitely thinner than my stadium cloth duffle coat from last year. Super disappointing, but not terribly surprised that Jcrew is messing up the quality of yet another favorite.

Houndstooth baseball cap: love this one. I love having the option to tie my hair and throw it on without having to dress super sporty like a regular sports baseball cap. I have other wool hats but they're a lot of work trying to arrange my hair properly. I like the ease of this with the modern take.

OT, but my order included the merino scarf sweater, and in my shipment email says it was included in the shipment, only it was NOWHERE to be found in the box. Customer service apologized, helped find it in store, and did everything appropriately but still just annoyed. I do a lot of online shopping for the ease of the transaction (beats trying to control a toddler in the mall!) -- minus the hassle to return stuff -- so when things like this happens it's a super turn off.

    Anyway, HTH!

  29. Love the Vachetta leather stud-post belt, especially at 25% off. Tho its a wider belt, the minimal hardware keeps it from being too overwhelming on smaller frames. No need to worry about matching metals, either. Size XS measures 26" at the innermost hole, 30" at the outermost.

  30. I received the bonded one size merino sweater and it's a return for me. For reference, I am 5'6" and usually a medium on top. I love the knit of this sweater but the drape across the back is not right I think because of the drop shoulder. The length was short but workable for me. Maybe the knit would soften over time but it basically made me look like I had on wings in the back. Too bad because I thought the cut could be interesting.

I also received the cafe mint stone necklace (for a steal!) but am on the fence. Even though it was a great deal, not sure I like the look of the mint stones. Might make a good gift though.

  32. My order came too here’s a quick review:

Floral Sweatshirt (04966) – Ordered in the Navy, felt true to size to a bit small/short (more fitted). While I like the design and color, I don’t think it is worth the full price even with the 25% promo. I might get this if it made it to super sale.

Jeweled chandelier sweatshirt (04967) – Ordered in both gray and ivory, definitely more on the slouchy side, I am returning both sweatshirts but if I were to reorder in the future I would probably size 1 down. The sweatshirt looks very cute in the catalogue but as someone mentioned earlier, in real life it just looks a little too “tween” for me, especially the colored jeweled on the heather ivory, it felt a little too sweet.

Embroidered front tee (07293) – Ordered in ivory/black combo, this is a surprise LOVE for me. It has a nice design, fits well (TTS to a little on the loose side but not enough to size down), you can dress up or down with the tee. I love it so much that I just ordered the ivory/gray combo.

Double-cloth Sabrina coat 06286 – Ordered in 4 colors (black, camel, celery and neon azalea). Let’s review the size and fit first. For JCREW I almost always have to size up on blazers or coats due to my problematic shoulder and arm area, besides I like to layer inside and need the extra room for movements for my arms. The Sabrina coat however, seems to run a size larger. I understand the oversize design of this coat with a bit of cocoon shape to it which I actually love, but my true size just felt a bit frumpy on, I reordered the coats in a size smaller hopefully they will work out. All the colors I ordered are lovely and what you would expect to see from online. The camel is a rather dark tan but a nice shade of neutral. Neon azalea is almost the same shade as last year’s bow coat offered in this color, but I felt that the shade this year is even brighter, almost highlighter pink, I love the bright pop of color personally but it might be a turn off for someone else. I am on the fence about the celery color, it is a refreshing minty-green, while I love the idea of having a minty coat in winter, but I do feel like it is hard to wear a “spring color” in fall. Overall I really like the cut of the coat, it reminds me of the symphony coat that was offered in the past 2 seasons but with a slightly more oversized cut.

    ReplyDelete
  33. More reviews:

Convertible toggle coat (02568) – Ordered in brilliant flame. JCREW obviously is all over the place with sizing, I ordered my true size for this coat and it is pretty fitted, I think the fit is however exactly like last year’s version. The red color is gorgeous, and I LOVE the fact that it comes with a removable hood. The coat felt more substantial then the Sabrina coat.

Captain coat in jeweled houndstooth (04456) – I had huge hope for this coat, but it was also the biggest disappointment of this shipment for me. It definitely has a menswear feel to it, the double breasted design did not make it slimming but rather on the boxy side, but the cut itself is not big enough to size down, when unbuttoned, the coat just hung and looks frumpy on me. The jeweled collars are big and while they are suppose to be the selling point of this coat, I felt that they were just a bit too much in real life. On the other hand, a similar idea the schoolboy blazer in beaded tweed (03379) is nicely done, a little more understated but still unique, I decided to keep the blazer instead.

Wool bomber peacoat (02873) – Ordered in Navy and this is also a surprise love for me. The color is a deep navy and the fit is TTS. I thought this coat would be cut with a boxy shape but it is actually quite the opposite, the material isn’t thick but it felt substantial enough for a chilly fall weather.

Collection leather-front Pixie pant (04198) – Last but not least, the leather pixie pants. These fit exactly like all the pixie pants, size down 1 at least. I like the full leather front more than the leather stripes on the side, but of course this also cost double the price. I am on the fence about it only because I felt that it is more expensive then what it is, but I do like the pixie pant fit.

Hope my review help you ladies!

    1. i've been told by SAs that it's only stackable with select promo merch and not when a global sale is happening. maybe other JCAs can chime in on their experiences. HTH!

    2. I called three stores yesterday about this and got the same answer from all of them: student/teached discount not stackable with storewide promos, stackable with other promos (e.g., all coats 25% off, all tops 25% off, ...). Hoping for one of these soon!

  35. I just got my latest order yesterday...

Collection leather / tweed skirt - ordered my usual size 10 and was way too tight and looked horrible, so it's going back and although it's very nice, I don't love it enough to get a size up.

Bailey for JCrew felt hat - love love love. It is quite dramatic, but I'm a total hat person, so have no problem with standing out. It's made really, really well and although shipped with no special protection (like paper inside), it held its shape. This one is exempt from the current promotion.

Camel sweater - a little bit boxy, but I really like it. And the wool / cashmere / nylon blend is really soft.

Pleated silk blouse in abstract dot - this is just lovely. Maybe runs a tad big, but I will be tucking in, so will give the "blouse" effect I'm after.

Gwen dress in festival blue - this dress is perfect for work. I'd say it runs a little bigger than the Emmaleigh dress, especially in the hip area. Alas, with my chest, I have to size up so it fits there, so will have to get the hips tailored. What was NOT mentioned in the description and not obvious in the online photos is that there is a front/side slit. I actually quite like it, even though it was a surprise. But just so you know it's there!

    And finally...

Paneled stretch dress in black - words cannot express my love for this dress. The fabric is nice and thick and it has real substance. I will be wearing this dress to death this fall / winter - with boots, flats, runners, tights / bare legs, jean jacket / leather jacket. I just LOVE.

I got a few other things too, but nothing from the "new" section...and my fingers are tired and I should probably get back to work.

    Ta ta.

    5. 312JCgirl - the dress does run very true to size and falls *just* above my knee (I'm 5'6"). I hope you love it as much as I do!!

D*ska - the hat is just gorgeous, but I agree with you. I never wore hats when I had short hair - just didn't suit me :-)

    6. Thanks Sinead. I ordered my normal dress so good to hear that confirmation! It looks like the dress is selling out in many sizes online.

  37. I splurged big time on the Collection shearling cardigan in navy. I tried to resist because it is excluded from the promo but I had to have it (good thing that I had a few things with tags on from the summer that I could return and some bday money to fund it). Anyways, I know it isn't for everyone and I actually walked past it a few times without even stopping to look closely at it because it just seemed one of those questionable and overpriced items but I made the mistake of trying it on and WOW, it is GORGEOUS. I especially like the length (they didn't ruin it but making it boxy, hurray!) and the fact that is not super-fitted (especially in the sleeves) so you can layer without going up a size (bought my regular XS). The shearling on the front is super-soft and fluffy without making you look like you are a dressed like a caveman (in fact it is very chic). I highly recommend if someone is on the fence. It's expensive for sure but personally I think I am going to wear it a lot and it is going to be a staple in my wardrobe. I plan to wear it with skinny jeans and a belt now and under a coat later. HTH someone!

Random question about the new Schoolboy Blazer. I got a black one, and it seems to be looser in the body than the Schoolboy I bought last year. I want to have it altered, but didn't know if the pockets overlapping the side seams would make it tricky. Anyone have any luck having one taken in?

    1. Jenny you may want to check out the blog Alterations Needed. The blogger is very petite and gets many of her items altered including blazers and she may be able to provide feedback or advice if you post the question. Have you tried the classic version of the blazer?

    2. I will definitely look at that blog. Thanks! Yes, I had the classic version in the grape color and just sold it because I thought black would be more versatile.

  39. Aiden ankle boots- I have been lusting over them since they came out but unfortunately they don't work for me. The top was more narrow than I expected so I couldn't pull them on without undoing the buckled strap that goes around them. I didn't love the pebbled leather on these either so they are going back. I took my usual size for jcrew shoes. It might just be that my expectations were different.

  40. I ordered the lady coat in Retro Pink. The color is amazing so I guess that is why it sold so quickly. I have the Double Metro Cloth Coat from last year and noticed that the Lady Coat is a little longer even though they are both a 2P. It fit, but I really can't wear many layers..so I was wondering did anyone have to size up one. I am afraid to do that since its sold out. any suggestions...?

  41. Ludlow slim cut pants #02299 in Chester brown. Italian flannel as soft as butter. (Imagine Mike Meyers from SNL saying it). The cut is slim but not skinny, they are a rich caramel colour and will look incredible with charcoal, navy or black. While pricey they are definitely not the usual drab pant colour, sorry to charcoal, black or navy pants if you're offended.

I see that many of the better pants offered are already sold out in some sizes. I read earlier in the year that companies like 'crew and BR are pulling back on inventory levels and we can expect this to happen more. Does this mean less on sale in the future and more purchases at full pop?

  42. A few reviews...the Jeweled Chandelier Sweatshirt in Ivory...the color is more oatmeal (tan) than ivory and the color of the beads is gorgeous--bright turquoise and amber and gray. I ordered the xxs and xs and I preferred the fit of the xs better b/c it felt more comfortable with a button down underneath and the sleeves were a little longer. I liked the drape better in the xs, too. (I'm 5'5 and 100 lbs. for reference.) Word of warning...I had the sweatshirt on and off 3 times comparing the fits and trying to make a decision and I noticed one of the beads had come off. The *good* thing is the beads are set in prongs (I need to double check if they're all this way) , so I was able to easily pop it back in. The prongs are sewn onto the sweatshirt. It comes with a packet of replacement beads, too. They did the beading right on this...there are no beads on the insides of the arms or on the sides, so there is no rubbing them off. I love the way this tops looks, but not sure if I want to spend $126 for it. :O

Wool Bomber Peacoat in Navy...Did not like the way this looked on me. I ordered the 0 b/c I find 00 is too tight in the shoulders in coats sometimes, so I don't know if that's the problem or not. It just didn't look flattering unbuttoned--sort of ballooned out--and I didn't like the looks of it buttoned either. The wool was very smooth and soft. The zippers (pockets) are shiny gold.

Elbow-Patch Sweater...Love this sweater. Ordered my usual xxs size in the sky color (order down or the smaller of your 2 sizes). The color is a really pretty sky blue (blue and white yarns) and the lambswool is really soft. I'm not sensitive to wool, but I had it on with just a bra underneath and it was very comfortable. I found the hem in front to be shorter than in back--back covered my bottom by a good 1/2 inch or so and the front ended right where my leg and hip meet. I didn't find it too wide or swingy--just the right amount of oversize. Very flattering. The elbow patches hit me fine--not exactly in the middle...closer to the top of the patch...but not high enough to look off.

Cotton Voile Popover in Navy/Red polka dot. Very cute and a flattering fit.

    1. Hello, I just bought the wool bomber peacoat online.....size 0. I'm normally a size 00 to 0 but sometimes I also find size 00 being too tight on the shoulders for coats and blazers. I just want to know how it fit on you. Was size 0 boxy? Are you normally a 00 or 0 on the top?

      thanks so much!

    1. I also really liked the look of this sweatshirt on, but...I couldn't get it off fast enough. It was way, way too itchy for me. If you are the kind of person who doesn't mind wearing a layer under your sweatshirts, you might not mind it. I didn't want to bother, so I am returning it. I might reconsider if it got down to about $30.
The sleeves are also very, very short. I have short arms, and they were short on me. I can only imagine where they would be on regular people. They are at that awkward place where they don't look like 3/4 sleeves, they just look too short.

    2. Denee, me too! I love, love, love this sweatshirt but I could not stand the scratchiness. I'll try it again with a shirt underneath but I think it is going to be a return for me. I'm so sad about it because it is so beautiful. Dina, I'm glad it worked for you. I saw your review and it looks fantastic on you!

      Delete
    3. Hi, Denee and shopalot.

You know I didn't even notice how short the sleeves were until I published the review. I think I am immune to shorter sleeves since every shirt/top is that way on me, lol, I practically shriek with joy when a top's sleeves make it to my wristbone. :)

I definitely could see the itch factor, but since I wore a cami with it and I tend to not get too itchy with woolen products, I figure I will be fine, but the word of warning has to be said since a lot of ladies have sensitivities and this will likely drive some of you crazy with the scratchiness.

  48. I just opened up a box with the Embroidered Front Tee and the Peplum Top and super loooove the Embroidered Tee. It's just lovely, the proportions are great (great length), the back is a good thickness, and the embroidery makes it special. It was TTS and looked nice and lean w/o being too tight. Definite thumbs up.

The peplum top had a lot of the same issues as the sleeveless version. It wasn't fitted on top enough, but the peplum didn't swing out enough. It definitely didn't look like the model shot, which would be darling. I think for that shot, they used a bigger size and pinned it in back to get that big flare. Return!

  49. Has anyone tried both the field jacket from retail and factory? My factory store has a field jacket that isn't online and I wanted to know if it fits the same as the retail one and if it's the same quality. 51. Beaded tweed schoolboy blazer. It's sold out online but thought I'd add my $.02 in case of popbacks or store availability.

The color is great--it is the color depicted in the photo with the model and not the much duller shade that appears the stock photo. It's a deep rich mix of autumnal colors--brown with elements of rust, pine, and olive. I'm not one for high-contrast pairings so I plan to wear it with similar shades; it also looks good with black and dull (not too purplish) maroon.

Only the underside of the collar is beaded, so the jacket is best worn with the collar popped. Because of the bulk of the beads the collar and lapels do not sit will if you fold the collar down. Also, be aware that the beads WILL snag your hair. I plan to wear my long hair up to show off the beading, but if your hair is long enough to brush the collar but not long enough to put up, it could be a deal-breaker.

This is my first schoolboy blazer so I can't compare the fit to earlier versions. I ordered my usual JC size and it fit, but just barely, so IMO the fit is a little skimpy. Also, I'm only 5'4" and the sleeve length was fine, so taller ladies may find the sleeves short. The buttons are great and came carefully wrapped.

  53. Recently purchased some new jeans due to weight loss. Both toothpick. One retail, one factory!

Factory midrise skinny jean. These are really good. When I first tried them on, I hated them, but I had the wrong size. I sized down to a 28 and they are perfect. So, these do run large, size down one even if it feels wrong, LOL. I have never worn a 28 in toothpicks, and my other new ones from retail are still a 29. Anyway, the wash is not quite as light as pictured in the first photo... the photo that shows the back of the jeans is the most accurate depiction of the color.

Midrise toothpick jean in carbon. LOVE these. Ordered a 29 tall, and they fit TTS. I am between a 4 and 6 these days for reference. The midrise is very comfy without verging into early 90s mom jean territory. The wash is very dark, perfect. I wish they were like 1/2 inch shorter, though. I suppose I will probably hem, or see if they shrink a little in the wash. The tall inseam comes all the way to the floor with the tiniest bit of scrunch. For reference, I need about a 34-35" inseam in non skinny pants for them to hit the floor. I see that most sizes are sold out in the tall... wow.

I highly recommend both of these jeans.
