Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SUMMER sale, or to see some new FALL arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  4. I tried both the Collection capri and the salmon mini in Quartz Jacquard and the material is awful. SO ITCHY. How are they even selling?!

I picked up the fluted skirt in double crepe in ivory. The 00 is backordered online but I found one in store and snatched it immediately. It's more than I would like to pay for a poly/viscose blend...but at the same time, I've been looking for a skirt like this for the past 3 years and this one meets all my criteria.

I also ordered through their phone the silk boy blouse in contrast trim (had to after seeing it on Gigi!). After tax, it's the same price as an Everlane, so I'm VERY happy and thankful it comes in petite sizes. The silk itself doesn't match up to the softness of an Equipment blouse, but at least it won't make me look like I'm swimming in it!

  5. At my B&M, there is a new silk blouse, a darker green 3/4 sleeve blouse with very pretty details at the color. I was not able to find the blouse online, but it is a pretty nice silk. It comes in a multi color as well but with a rougher silk for the multi-color. I had to size up for flow so will say true to size (due to height, I usually have to size up so that my shoulders do not feel constrained).

Also tried the schoolboy blazer in black, agreed with reviews that the wool is rougher. The burnished red color is gorgeous in real life.

  6. I went to the Factory over the weekend. I got the tailored boy blazer in heather caramel and cords in a short size in cabernet.

I'll be going to my B&M later today to see what's in stores. I haven't been for a few weeks. I too thought the promo ended Sunday, but whatever.

Also, if you are trying to find the Nike Pegasus 83's, look on Nike's website. They've got more color and size options.

    1. They're all gone again on J. Crew's web site. I wonder what is going on. Mine are supposed to be delivered today (from J. Crew).

    2. I have been noticing that a lot of items have been selling out. The leather sleeve tee in size S is completely sold out (was showing as backordered this morning). The zipper minnies are showing as backordered / low stock. The tipped pencil skirt is showing as backordered / low stock. The velvet schoolboy in the pink color is completely sold out in a size 2. The Nikes are gone. These are all items on my wishlist. I usually buy too early and then kick myself when things go on sale + promo a few weeks later. Of course, for this rollout, I've waited, only to see things disappear rapidly. I wonder if some of these items will be restocked or what.

    3. I am hoping for restocks, because I really wanted the Merino pocket tunic in garnet. I'm also surprised the Andie chino in fatigue is backordered until September 23rd.

    4. I may return my Merino pocket tunic in garnet, sz. S. If that's your size, I'll let you know if I do, but I have to believe you can still track one of those down!

  7. I've been told by a few large retailers of clothing and home furnishings/decor that they are buying much less than usual. I've been advised to buy it when I see it because stock just isn't there like we are all used to waiting for it to go on super sale.

    1. That's interesting. It seems to me that more things are back ordered than usual so maybe that's the reason. I also thought we would be seeing tremendous amounts of popbacks after stores sent back clearance merchandise but I'm not seeing it at least on the things I want.

  8. A couple more reviews. Visit here to see the crepe racer tank & two-tone cardigan. I liked 'em both.

  12. Totally OT, but does anyone watch Breaking Bad? I could have sworn Mickey had a cameo in the car wash scene last night (the signature glasses plus blazer and jeans) and I googled to confirm and was right.

    1. Very informative post Gigi! I think you tried on almost everything in the store!

I agree about sizing down on the matte crepe drawstring pants. I really, really wanted them to work for me, but my normal size 6 looked like clown pants with a serious case of saggy crotch. I sized down to a 4 but still feel like I have to wear them at my natural waist otherwise they are uncomfortable.

I have them on today and need to figure out a couple other ways to style them, but they are cute and quite comfortable.

    2. gigi, thanks so much for your reviews. I've spent a boat load of money with this roll out, but your review of the foulard mini helped me put in my final order tonight. Thanks. I rely on your reviews as well as other JCA's so much.

    3. @Jessy - I hope to get the matte crepe and I will definitely size down one. lol @ clown pants

@Stacy66 - I've had to restrain myself considerably! Glad the reviews helped :)

  14. Some new arrivals arrived in the mail.

The Oversize Merino Pocket Sweater looks just like last year's version and seems to fit just the same too (let's hope it doesn't pill the same, but I expect it will). It's a slouchy fit, not fitted through the shoulders. I sized down. The name is similar to the new Merino Pocket Sweater, but the fit is different. The Oversize Merino Pocket Sweater pockets are on the sides and IMO it is not a tunic, it hits at the hips.

The Marlie Purse in Tweed is almost very nice. The one that I got has some indentations on the leather, I assume from shipping. It was packed in a flat rectangular box, so I am sure that's why. If I keep this purse, I'm requesting a replacement. They shouldn't have smashed this purse into a flat box like that, ugh. I do love the purse, though. The size is perfect for me to wear cross-body. There are 2 slip pockets inside for phone/keys as is usual in most recent J. Crew purses. The flap closure has a hidden magnet that keeps it closed, so it is very easy to get into it. The buckles are just for decoration. On the back side, there is an open pocket that has a magnetic closure. The strap extends to a good length for cross-body (I hate cross-body purse straps that are too short).

Nike Air Pegasus 83 sneakers are exactly as pictured, no surprises. They're pretty cute and I'll wear them as a sporty option when I'm not doing serious exercise. I'm not sure how supportive they'd be for real exercise, but I think I'll look at the Zappos reviews on them and see what people say.

  15. I received a large order of things to try on today from the latest rollout - this is probably better for tomorrow under reviews but I thought I'd post before the 25% off ends. These days I need to really love something in order to keep it, so here's my thoughts:

    The bad (for me...)

    - half placket dress in tossed hearts 02804 - blah. It looks very well made but for summer not fall. Didn't like at all.

    - double cloth lady day coat in retro pink 49622 - I've wanted a pink coat, but this one has a lot of purple in the color - more like the bright dahlia from the past. Return.

    - camo wool scarf 08100 - dark muddy colors with peach along edge rather than pink. Didn't like at all.

    - scalloped cutout silk top in octagonal 02772 - very formal and stiff. Maybe good for a business suit. Return.

    - silk boy blouse in tossed hearts 04575 - I thought I would love this but it is too much like what I already have. I usually take a 10 in silk blouses and this one was tight so that I couldn't button the bottom button. I think a 12 would be way too big on top. Return.

    - silk short-sleeve shirt in octagonal dot 04296 - the print is much darker than online. It is a silky pajama top - if I loved the print, I would keep it, but the dark color makes it very blah to me.

    Love and am keeping:

    - merino pocket tunic 03444 - navy - I love this! Fit perfect in a medium.

    - tartine mini-satchel in pebbled leather 05787 - vintage pewter - the perfect size and seems like a well-made bag. Mine came defective with a huge V impression on the front and the back, so I'll exchange it for one that looks like the online picture.

    - scanned floral tee 06396 - the background of this shirt is gray not white like I thought it was going to be but I really like it! I got a medium and a large - the medium will be perfect after doing a little "J Crew stretch" on it. The large is too big for me.

    Hope this helps someone!

  16. I have tried on a LOT in the last couple of weeks. Here are my thoughts, starting with the stuff I loved.

Tippi Baseball Sweater (parsley breeze) – I got my usual Tippi size (XS), but it was bigger than the solid or polka dot Tippis. I think the fit of this one is closer to the butterfly stripe or flower Tippi from the spring. The only thing I don’t love about it is that the neckline is higher than most Tippis. I kept this one to wear casually with jeans or to work with dress pants.

Crepe Racer Tank (windsor violet) – I sized up to a 2 in this one. I normally wear a 0 in sleeveless shirts, but this one felt tight in the chest (34 A so I don’t say that often!). I LOVE this dark purple color, the thick crepe material, and the way it drapes. I kept this one to wear untucked with jeans or tucked into a skirt.

New Schoolboy Blazer (black) – I got my usual Schoolboy size (2). I tried on the gray one a few weeks ago and thought the extra length made the boxiness worse. For some reason, I love it in black. I kept this one despite the lack of a need for blazers in my life. Hard to explain my 3 Schoolboys, but they fit so well…

Other things that came home with me: Wool No. 2 Pencil Skirt (black), Colorblock Wool Baseball Hat (beige grey), Bar Stripe Tee (gray navy), and Antique Floral Tee. I ordered the Drapey Crepe Henley Tunic in hammock green to try. It should get here tomorrow.

    Here’s what didn’t work out.

Merino Pocket Tunic (gray, garnet) – I ordered both of these in my usual Tippi size (XS) but they were way too big. I love both colors and the wool is really soft. I might try an XXS the next time I’m in a store, but it would have to be on sale since I can’t pull off skinny jeans or pixie pants. I should probably leave this one to the ladies who can rock this look.

Collarless Popover in Indigo – I tried this one in a 0, which is my usual boy shirt and popover size. It was way too tight in the shoulders (I have broad shoulders), so I would need a 2. I had the same problem with the short sleeve popovers in plaid and polka dot, so I sized up to a 2 and had the sides taken in by a tailor. I didn’t love this one enough to go out of my way to make it fit.

Racer Tank in Dot – I tried this in the same size as the solid crepe racer tank. The fit was the same through the shoulders, but the rest of it was boxier. I thought the dots were blue, but they’re purple. Pass.

Excursion Vest (saddle) – The fit of this seemed a little bigger than the green puffer vest I got at the Factory store. I think I like the old slash pockets better since they keep your hands warm. The snap pockets would hold keys and stuff more reliably though. The sand color was not flattering for my skin tone, but would look cute on someone else. I looked at the camo one and decided (like other JCAs have said) that I could get it much cheaper at Tractor Supply. I think my little brother had one as a kid.

Collection Wool-silk A-Line Skirt (Neon coral) – I had high hopes for this one, because I thought the material would feel the same as the Allie Dress. It seemed thinner and more casual to me. The color is pretty muted compared to the recent neons J.Crew has had. This hit a couple of inches above my knee (I’m 5’5”). I was looking for something really dressy to wear to a wedding, and this seemed more appropriate for work or church. The pockets are cute. Pass for me.

    1. Jenny, love all your reviews! One note on the vest--did you know you can put your hands in on the sides, not just open the snaps at the top? It took me a minute to find this...:) I also am considering the saddle but not sure about the color. Hope you enjoy your purchases!

  17. Hi Ladies, Thanks to all your reviews, I have a cart full of stuff to checkout. Before I do, I am stumped on one of the items and would lvoe some advice. For those of you who have the downtown field jacket, do you think the mossy brown or navy is more versatile? Hard to see true colors online. Also, did you order tts or order up/down? Thanks. Last day of promo, so trying to capitalize.

    1. savvy, I have the mossy brown and love it. Its more of a brown/green color, and looks great with the gold buttons. It looks really classic, and I actually think its more of a neutral than the blue...I wear with jeans, but also can wear with navy, black, etc...

    2. I tried both colors on this last weekend. I loved the mossy brown, but there was something great about the navy with black cord collar. Classy. I'd go with what you think you could use more. Good Luck.

    3. Hi Savvy Shopper I have the downtown field jacket from last season in a color similar to the mossy brown (not sure if it's the exact same but similar if not). I love it and am glad that I chose that color over the navy as i think it's more versatile and classic. There is something that reads more casual in the navy in this cut for me and I wanted to dress up and down. I stuck with my true size and find I have enough room for light layers underneath.

    4. savvyshopper - I prefer the mossy brown over the navy. The mossy brown is an excellent neutral & goes w/so many things, including many shades of blue. I didn't like the navy shade & thought the gold buttons kind of blared on it. I wanted to like it, but nah.

    6. Gigi - just saw your original review from 2009 (can't believe this jacket has been around that long & even more incredible that the price has remained the same at $148). Anyhow, the color says mossy brown but is it the same shade that is currently being offered? The shade currently online looks more brown/less green than the original. Wondering if it's my monitor or if the shade has changed. Hopefully not because I'm finally getting around to buying it but prefer the "more green" shade.
