"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I don't really have too much of a vent except that the quality and high prices of the Spring/Summer 2013 line have been a major turn off to me this time around. I tend to spend less in the summer on clothes because to me summer is all about easy, breezy style and lots of breathable cotton. I pretty much stepped away from J.Crew right now. Will check back in the Fall and Winter of course but as far as their summer offerings, all the items I thought were gorgeous and must have ended up being terribly ill-fitting and poor quality for the high price. Sorry J.Crew, you completely underwhelmed me this season.

  2. I have placed two orders in the past two days (each for one item that was on sale), and both times used the code summertime but it didn't work with either order. The code seemed to be applied, but the price didn't move and I had to call in to get the price adjusted (on one order they have to wait until the item ships and them credit me rather than reduce the price now as that item was the last one in stock). How annoying......

    1. I too have had problems with the website and the code not working. I am using an iPad and if I have items in my cart from the day before the code doesn't work. And the code disappears if I look at other tabs that are open in my browser. Very frustrating. It wasn't like this a few months ago.

  3. I posted this yesterday, but I ordered the Elsa piped sandal in both a 8.5 and 9 and they fit EXACTLY the same. I even held them up to one another. I don't know what to make of this...has anyone else had this same problem?

    1. I had the opposite problem. I ordered two Long Sleeve Pocket Tees in Stripe in two colors (shoreline blue and pacific turquoise) in the SAME SIZE and the shoreline blue is a good 2-3 inches wider in the body and shoulders than the pacific turquoise. Its so strange. When I lay the one on top of the other, they look like two different sized shirts.

    2. That happens to me all the time. I buy duplicates of styles I like in different colors and very rarely are two of the exact same top or pants the exact same size. Really frustrating.

    3. I tried on the ratti sailboat tank in store...and then ordered it TWO sizes larger because I wanted it slouchy and drapey...and the one I ordered fits exactly the same. Hrmph.

    4. I had a similar situation with my black Cece leather flats. I bought my normal 8.5 and they fit way smaller than my other Cece flats of the same size. I wore them a few times, hoping to stretch them a bit but they never loosened up and I ended up having to take a loss and sell them on Ebay. I love Cece flats and really needed a black pair so I recently bought another pair in the same size, hoping the first pair was a flaw. The new pair in the same size fit fine. All ended well but for a pair of $130 shoes, I shouldn've have had to do that.

  4. My VPS is on vacation and she gave me the name of one of her associates that could help me while she was gone. I emailed the back up VPS Monday morning to place an order, and as of right now, I have not heard a word from her. I did not get the out of office reply, so I have no idea what is going on. At this point, I don't even want the item anymore so I guess I lucked out. But still, why are the VPS so hit or miss?

    1. I have had pretty lackluster online VPS experiences. I've used three and they've all had days-long response lag time which I think is unacceptable. I find that with the effort I expend trying to get a hold of them it's easier to just do WWFIFY over the phone. They also have just horrible styling advice that I've not once taken.

    2. I had a great VPS who literally would reply within minutes. But he moved on. I like my VPS now, she is pretty good, but sometimes I wait hours to hear back. I have never received an iota of styling advice or advance notice of new arrivals or anything. I agree, a lackluster service. Even my in-store VPS never lets me know what is going on. (Sigh)

  5. I wish J. Crew would align their shoe sizes with the rest of the worlod's shoe makers. I don't wear a size 11! But I just ordered the Tybee slides in size 10 and my heel is to the very edge of the shoes and my toes hang a little over the foot bed. If these shoes were available in 10 1/2 I would order them. But they don't.

  6. I'm sure this has been posted before, but why no online reviews on j.crew.com? What are they so scared of? I personally rely on that information for other websites for fit, color, etc. Way behind, j.crew waaaay behind...

  7. Went to the Eaton's Centre location in Toronto last night, only to be turned away at the door! They were having a private event and I was "not on the list". Just really, really obnoxious when I'd made a special trip to go to that mall for that store.
