So exciting to see some images from the May catalog! Can't wait to get my copy in the mail. I am especially curious about the Scalloped Linen Jacket. It looks pretty awesome.

What are your thoughts? Do you know when the newest arrivals are expected to be available? Are you looking forward to the upcoming new arrivals?

  1. Oooh. I love the gold glitter wedges! And the Swoop In Punk Floral Dress, too--such a pretty, pretty print.

  2. Love the merino butterfly tippi sweater!

  3. The bucket bag looks interesting to me.

  4. I didn't love the styling or setting of this catalog, as compared to the last one photographed on the lovely vacation site. I hate the plain black or white backgrounds. So boring. Some of the items peaked my interest such as the Lillian glitter wedges and the Pilar glitter sandals...a few cute dresses too! Nothing I had to have though.

  5. I got mine yesterday and this style guide is a snoozer. They really need a 30% off to get things moving. Who would want to wear double shirts going to summer? Everyone just looks like Peewee Herman.

    1. I was not a fan of the doubled-up button-up shirts styling either, it looks stuffy and hot. I don't mind that the catalog layout is plain this time, they probably only do an on-location catalog shoot a couple of times a year. I'm not that wowed by the clothes in the catalog, though. Maybe they will be better in person.

    2. That's the kicker- nothing in the May catalog is available online so you won't be able to get any percent off unless you find it in a b&m.

      Delete
    3. They've been rolling out merchandise in the B&M stores before it goes online lately. Most of the May catalog stuff should be online tomorrow. I picked up my catalog in the store, though, where they told me (when I asked) when it would all be online. If I'd gotten the catalog in the mail, I'd be annoyed that I couldn't order from it, however. They told me at the store that the percent off will be going on until ... I forget what day, but it's going to overlap the online rollout so you should be able to order online using the percent off promo. That's something else they've done the last couple of rollouts, given a 25-30% off promo on full-price merchandise in the new rollout, which I think is great.

  6. I saw a few things yesterday. That green printed dress is gorgeous (and there is a scarf in the same print!). The Ratti Electric Kiwi print is interesting, saw it on a lightweight tunic dress (looks like it comes in shorts too). Catalog shows Herringbone Linen Cafe Capris, I am interested in trying those. Marina espadrilles look cute.

  7. I think the green punk floral dress looks cute. I am also excited to get a better look at the new cafe capri colors and patterns.

  8. Looks like I see a pair of real pants and not capris in that next to last photo! A girl can dream....

  9. I have a love hate relationship with linen. It's so comfortable in the heat but 5 minutes after I put on a linen garment I look like I was dragged through the bush backwards! Can you imagine that pretty linen jacket and skirt in the last image? Talk about a hot mess.

  10. Thistle print popover, linen tee's, the "summertime blues" and "anything blue" pages - love individual items. Thanks so much for the catalog preview!

  11. The scalloped linen suit jacket is adorable. I don't think linen suiting is for me (too high maintenance) but it is very cute. Ah, yes, I just saw what Desert Flower wrote above - totally agree!!!

  12. I wonder if the butterflies are knitted into that tippi, or printed on? Printed on = cheap, knitted in = want!

    1. Yeah, I really want to see that IRL... looks cute in the picture!

    2. I just got today, I didn't inspect much, but they appear to be knitted one. It's really cute, definitely recommend.

    3. Thanks HollDoll129! Can't wait to see it in person!

    4. Yes, thank you for the review! Trying to keep myself from spending anything till the new stuff is online or in store and I really LOVE the monarch sweater.

  13. Thank you so much for scanning these pages! I like the Thistle print popover and the punk floral dress but I don't think the dress would work on me. I'm surprised to still see so many sweaters. I also like some linen items but agree that it looks so rumpled by the end of the day.

  14. I've been waiting for the green silk floral pants (shown on the cover) to be available and was so excited when I got this in the mail - however I do not see them inside. I see many items with that print available, skirt, dress, sweater, even a bathing suit - but not the pants - am I just missing them? I've flipped through the style guide several times.

  15. My first reaction is Meh. I do like the punk dress but everything else seems the same. For me, I would like to see them bring some of their archive favored items back from 2005-2007. What I see on the pages so far is the same thing for the past two seasons just in a different color and many of the items are from last year but up in price.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Thank you so much for taking time to scan the pages for us Mel & cuckoo4crew! I haven't received my catalog, so I really appreciate the sneak peek. :)

There looks to be several things I will be interested in this time around. The knit princess seam dress looks promising, and I have almost ordered the stripe linen tunic (aka Handkerchief Linen Top) a couple of times, but keep holding off and hoping for a review before I place the order. I'm also glad to see a few more swimsuit options, and hope they will also include more swimsuit coverups this summer, too.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new rollout online this week, and really hope that final sale will finally go away this week, too.

  17. Had the opportunity to see many of the new items in store. The tippi sweaters with the butterflies and flowers are super pretty. There is a gorgeous sleeveless top in the same pattern as the silk pants that are on the catalog cover. I also noticed that the regular price of the blythe blouses is back to $98.

  18. My thoughts are that I found three items that I actually liked (I got the catalog yesterday) and went to place an order and/or to see more views of those items online. Guess what? They're not available! Literally nothing in the May catalog (sorry, I'm not going to call it a "style guide") is available online. I wrote J.Crew and they told me that two of the items will be put online "sometime in the next two weeks" and that the third item I asked about won't be available until June! My question is, what is the point of sending out a May catalog if nothing in it is available? It did not used to be this way. The minute I got a catalog, I would go online to check it out and possibly order it or at least put it in my cart. I'm really becoming disenchanted with JC. They are consistently overpriced and the made in China thing really bugs me, too. Now this? I'm looking elsewhere for a lot more items and may wind up cancelling my card this year since the service on it is also subpar. Majorly disappointed.

    1. I think it's very odd as well that I get the Style Guide before the online rollout. This has happened for the past three issues. I used to get it the Monday after the rollout.

    2. I just exchanged a few more e-mails with JC and they have informed me that the items in the May catalog will be available online tonight at midnight, fyi.

  19. Thank you so much for scanning ... I never seem to get style guides in the mail anymore and I so look forward to these sneak peeks!

The scalloped jacket is fresh and cute but linen is way too high-maintenance for me in a jacket like that ... it would look like a rag before my morning commute is over. Maybe they will make it in a doublecloth or wool fabric for fall!

The Monarch Tippi is adorable esp if the butterflies are knitted. Versatile colors and styling options - it reminds me of the Floral-Stripe Tee which has been a better-than-expected addition to my tee collection.

Some of the boho references seem very Tory Burch-like to me. Jenna is wearing the Collection Portrait-Collar Popover in the Marie Claire @ Work profile this month.

  20. Totally just got my style guide in the mail. LOVE the shoes, but J. Crew shoes are usually WAY out of my price range. I love that punk floral print. Will be snapping up one of the bikinis with the 30 off.

I am very underwhelmed by the style guide upon first reflection. Everybody seems so bundled up. And where oh where are the cute dresses? I love the scalloped shift dress from the last roll out, but of course I was holding out for a promo and now it's all sold out.

    1. There are scalloped shift dresses in navy and pink at the South Coast Plaza store. :-)

  21. Susan, there are several of the scalloped dresses in the coral(?) and darker color, either navy or black, at the Country Club Plaza store in Kansas City, MO as of yesterday. Try them :)

  22. I really love J Crew and this blog could be the best thing I have found on the world wide web! Everything is so fashionable and I know I'm going to spend at least 200-300 dollars weekly!!!

  23. My thighs don't do Toothpicks, but the Vintage Palm print looks adorable to me ... a subtle take on patterned denim that isn't a polka dot, which I'm tiring of.

  24. Got my style guide in mail today and as always there is lots to like. Popped in to the b&m today to do some returns. I only had 5 minutes to look and tried nothing on. Some first impressions: love the punk floral print and the dress is too cute so I must give that one a try. Loved the print on the Ratti electric kiwi tunic but the fabric not so much. It is a stiff not soft cotton so I am a bit disappointed since I was thinking dress not swim coverup. Love the stripe butterfly tippis in 2 color ways. I like the one with yellow butterflies the best. Gray tippi with mod flowers is adorable. Can't wait til I have more time to try things on

  25. Wondering if that school boy blazer under the new items is the same as the one in the style guide...doesn't seem as cute but could be the coloring on my screen. Hoping that I do not have to wait any longer as I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a vertical-striped blazer. The horizontal stripes are no good for my lower bod! Is it the same as FLOTUS' Easter egg roll blazer? Keeping my fingers crossed.

  26. Thanks so much for the preview! I was wondering if anyone knows if the butterflies on the tippi are screen printed or sewn on?

    ReplyDelete

    1. ADMD happy to say they are sewn on and very cute! It's definitely on my try on/buy list.

      Delete
    2. I took a closer look at it tonight, they're definitely sewn on. It's like a softer, better feeling quality than my other tippis (and I'm a tippi fan!).

  27. 95% sure I saw a top in that green punk floral print at the J Crew on Madison at 79th Street today, if any NYC JCAs are seriously jonesing for it now.

    1. I saw it last weekend. It's short sleeve silk top about $118 if I am not wrong.

  28. How much is the punk floral skirt? I just can't read print that tiny. Also, any thoughts about it? Length? Style? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I inquired about the punk floral skirt in store yesterday...18 inches long, $258. You can only order via CS according to my VPS and many sizes are already sold out, according to CS when I directly spoke with them. I decided not to go with the skirt as the flowers remind me of black and white xerox copies...I would love it if the flowers were in color...I believe the item number is 5715H...may be missing one number. HTH!

  30. Thanks, HeatherInSearchOf. It's too short and too expensive. Guess I'll go for the scarf!

  31. I have a feeling the crewlets will reincarnate the punk floral print next year...

  32. Thanks to Mel, Cuckoo4crew and Alexis for posting the new May Style Guide..
I don't know..I guess I'm not a fan of J.Crew's Spring/Summer season. I was underwhelmed with the style guide. And every time I like something, its always from the collection :-( Hopefully tonight's roll-out will be better.

*sigh* i sound like a broken record...with every month's new style guide, ever since January...

  33. The colorblock sail jacket is $89.99 in-store. Still regular price online. Other in-store prices noted here.

  34. New arrivals are up! Wow, so not into them. Apparently no one needs a tank top for summer. No cute tanks, not many cute tees, but lots of collection and cashmere. Hmmm, what's up j.crew? I remember this roll-out a year ago I went crazy! My wallet says thank you (and so does my husband)!

  35. Free shipping for purchases made online on April 24th (although it's still the 23rd for me, I guess they go by EST)! Got the collared eyelet tee that I had tried on in stores and was waiting for it to go on sale...now it's on sale WITH the additional 25% off and in the color and size I wanted! Wahoo! And free shipping!!! But boo on final sale...glad I tried it on IRL already and knew exactly what I wanted...

  36. Maybe they are still adding merchandise online, but had to search by item number to find things I saw and liked in the May style guide (including the butterfly tippi sweater and some blouses).

    1. The site is still updating. It rolls out over a period of time, esp w/massive info like the new arrivals.

    2. Well, just one punk floral item ( cachmere sweater), will the others appear when the sale is over? Please J.Crew, stop playing!

  37. I've recently been getting the catalog and I notice that the May issue that arrived yesterday does not contain many of the pages you show in your preview. The pages I don't have are ones that would interest me more - somewhat dressier clothes. Mine is full of the shorts, tees, swimsuits, wedding promo. I'd rather see jackets and citified summer dresses like the sheath with the bow shoulders.

Are there alternate versions of the catalog, then, and I'm stuck with this one? I've already passed it along to a friend to look over, though I doubt she'll be interested, either. What gives?

  38. Does anyone know which sunglasses are shown on the cover? I have a feeling they may not be available yet . . .

    Thanks in advance!
