J.Crew Final Sale {decent update}

J.Crew has a decent update to their Final Sale section online (click here) this morning. Lots of merchandise for everyone (800+ for Women and 350+ for Men). Moreover, it looks like several new pieces made it to sale along with some new price reductions both on Wednesday and today. Yey!

As many of you have noticed first-hand, brick and mortar (B&M) stores have completely cleared out the sale section. (My local store has one sad small rack of sale. The additional percent off in B&M stores is gone too.) This all means that the online sale section will continue to get more and more stock in the coming week.

What am I missing? An additional percent off. It would be nice to see a 40% (even 30%) off promotion return to online sale merchandise. I know I would have purchased at least $300 worth of Final Sale merchandise this morning if there was a code. But I talked myself out of the three items because there was no discount available. I am sure this is a similar thought running through other customers' minds too.

Did you check out the Final Sale section today? Were you able to snag any amazing deals? If so, please share! :)

  1. I agree Alexis! It would be really nice to see another % off. Hopefully they'll offer one again soon, or at least a promo on regular priced items.

For those interested, I noticed a lot of new Promo-priced items today, as well as some markdowns and noted them in this post.

There are also several new Promo-priced items at Madewell, as well. That list is here.

  2. Out of force of habit, I too was up at the crack of dawn, looking at the update. There are still some things I would be happy to have--but not without a promo.

I realize that I am the very worst kind of JCrew shopper. I always wait for a sale plus promo. On the other hand--I'm a good walking advertisement for JCrew!

    1. Ha, I did the same thing, thinking it was time for some lovely extra percentage off their truly winter items. Much to my disappointment, there was no inducement.

  3. Agreed! I'm not biting til there's a % off discount! Otherwise the prices are still too high, since I'm just wanting odds and ends. I'm really into a handful of the new items, but prices are WAY too high. Ready for a sale...

  4. for those of us in the East Coast who are trapped inside today due to the impending blizzard, a promo code/free shipping (w/o a limit) could fuel a shopping blizzard. Will be checking online throughout the day to see if J Crew or any of my other favorites are savvy enough to do this.

    1. I agree! That would have been some smart promotion/marketing/weather coordination on J.Crew's part. :)

    2. unfortunately, a lot of companies got slammed during hurricane sandy for sending out promo codes like that. I remember getting the emails and thinking that was smart of the companies, but I guess people saw them as insensitive?

      Delete
    3. Anthro did it! I got a weather-themed email from Anthro with a code for free shipping over $100. I won't use it, so if anyone wants it let me know (it looks to be a one time use code).

    4. I was thinking the same thing. Here I am stuck at home. Hmmm...where to shop? Anthro came through so I'm going to check out their website now. Come on J.Crew, you're dropping the ball here!

    5. Caitlin, if that code is still available, would you mind sharing it with me? My email is bankygirl at gmail dot com. TIA!

  5. I would LOVE a promo code for the whole dang site. The weather here is so chilly willy, a purchase of new spring pretties would surely boost my spirits. And, I don't do Final Sale. I'll probably hit up Banana while I'm trapped inside. So much fab jewelry this season!! Good luck to all those north of NYC. I'm in South Jersey, so it's just going to be about 6 inches of snow. Is it April yet??

  6. A quick note to say that we have been so spoiled by the promos. I wonder if corporate is holding off for now. It will be really interesting to see what kind of business JCrew did in the 4th quarter. I assume they were struggling, which is why they went promo heavy. AT the same time, I doubt they want to let buyers get used to promos. I read an article the other day in which Mickey Drexler complains about the way in which people have become accustomed to promos.

Second--I saw an article somewhere about AG denim partnering with Liberty of London. This will be very interesting. JCrew won't be the only source of Liberty+denim this spring. The AG site won't let you see the jeans now, but I believe the URL will eventually be: www.agjeans.com/liberty

    1. LOL! Yes, I have been spoiled by the promotions from the past month. ;) The extra 30-40% off online and 40-50% off in stores were too good to pass up. They definitely made me buy more than I normally would have. :)

    2. I'm also in the addicted to promo boat. I don't see any sale must-haves - but I do have a growing FP wishlist. I bet a sidewide promo applying to both sale and FP would get many of us to spend.

      Delete
    3. OMG. I would love to see the article you're referring to about Drexler complaining about the promos HIS company offers to HIS customers. What a moron. Maybe if items were priced more reasonably I wouldn't be so eager for promos. But, honestly. Doesn't he realize the average shopaholic woman is ALWAYS hunting for a good deal. Sheesh. Where's my wine?

      Delete
    4. Well put, Susan, Dear Leader has complained about customers' expectation a few times recently, and for some reason I'm finding it hard to work up the sympathy he seems to expect.

      Delete
    5. If we customers are used to promos, J.Crew has trained us to be this way. They start (a lot of) their merchandise too high in price, and customers wait until it drops to a reasonable price. A lot of what J. Crew sells is non-essential. There is no rush to buy it, and no need to buy it at all, for the most part. Customers can usually wait for a promo.

I think stores train us to shop a certain way. Kohls shoppers, Macy's shoppers, grocery stores. The customer will almost always buy when the merchandise is at their idea of well-priced. J. Crew isn't any different.

  8. As much as I would've loved to wait for an additional percent off promo, I HAD to have two items that I was positive would be gone within the hour.
I snagged the tartan mini (late to the party, but wholly obsessed) and the mauve blush velvet toothpicks (I own the navy pair and LIVE in them, they are SO comfy). $180 later, I'm wondering if perhaps I should've waited. Oh well, no point in having belated buyers remorse.

    1. I bit on the Excursion Vest in getaway green the other day, without promo. No regrets, it was on sale at least, and I know it's one that doesn't pop back very often.

    2. Good for you! I decided that I am just going to be excited about my recent purchases. I didn't even know I needed the tartan city mini until I saw it on Sarah Vickers. The only remorse I shall have will be in regards to the fact I'll only be able to wear it a few times before I have to retire it for the season.

  9. Given the still ongoing early morning competition for sale items (whither art though, pin dot chambray shirt in my size?), I think if you see something you want, it's good to grab it. I just bought my husband four sweaters. He has gone off to work in the hurricane, swaddled in snuggly new wool. And really--who can ask for more?

    1. I am wondering who is biting on the cashmere herringbone sweater without a promo. It popped back in my size in navy but it is still $199 and it was $99 with additional 50% off in store last week. Granted, I couldn't find my size for that price but I don't want it so badly as to pay close to fp when I could have theoretically paid $49! In less than an hour it was gone from my cart.

  10. Do we like the tippi or jackie cardigan?? Just looking for a nice Kelly Green one - but cannot decide!!! Trying to keep the cart down w/ out the additional promo. #spoiled :)

    1. Deanna, I have an entire drawer of jackie cardigans, and only two Tippis (so far), but I must say I love my Tippis. Jackies are good because you can just throw them in the washer and dryer. Tippis have to be dry cleaned, or can be washed if you have the patience to iron them after. The merino gets kinda scrunched after washing. So, they are definitely higher maintence than Jackies.

Anyway, I vote for the Tippi. It is more refined looking and the color will stay vibrant. My jackies regularly have to be replaced because the colors do fade with washing/they get fuzzy looking. The long sleeves on the Tippi are nice, too! And it is light enough to wear most of the year. Kelly green is such a fab color... nice choice!

      Delete
    2. DONE!!! I have tons of jackies but not a single tippi. I have been looking for the excuse to pay the extra.

In my head - I see the green cardigan over a white sheath dress in the spring - with some pop of color pumps!!! (like maybe a yellow or aqua or hot pink).

      soooo excited!!!

      Delete
    3. I love my Tippis - I have merino, linen and cashmere ones. :)

      Delete
    4. I agree with J.CrewJD, love the colors of Jackies but they do fade quickly. The Tippis are better quality and merino wool is much hardier than cotton or even cashmere IMO.

    5. so happy I asked!!! great feedback.

    6. Deanna, one other note. I think lots of JCAs found that the Tippi cardigans ran large. (Maybe search the blog for comments). I know the ones I bought in the fall, I took an XS, usually I am a S or M in J Crew merino cardigans. So you may want to try on first if possible. Hope I am not making it more complicated.

  11. I am debating over the Collection cashmere-mohair sweater. In the picture, the color is beautiful and I like the way the sweater looks on the model. However, even with the sale price, it is still pretty pricey at $229.99. Has anyone purchased and/or tried on this lovely?

    1. I have my eye on that sweater too! Would love to see a review.

    2. I won't buy their mohair again. Bought the lilac colored mohair sweater last fall and it shed like crazy. I wore it over a navy tee and the amount of shedding onto the navy was ridiculous.

  12. I agree with others, I get up look at the sale section and without a promo not buying anything. I think that J Crew needs to get rid of all that fall/winter merchandise, with a great promo. I am also waiting for a full price promo, only bought one bracelet with this last roll out. So until then saving lots of money.

  13. OT, but Garnet Hill is offering an extra 30% off sale sweaters today, and you can get fantastic deals such as a lovely cashmere sweater like this one for about $54. I stocked up on GH cashmere sweaters this year. They are soft, sumptuous, and remarkably pill-resistant. Two caveats though: sizing could be a bit tricky, and the shipping cost is no better than JC.

  14. I look at sale everyday, too, but I try sooo hard to limit my FS purchases this late in the season to in-store only, so I can inspect the item carefully. At this point nearly all fall/winter merch is either a late-season return, or droopy and shopworn.

I'm sure there are fresh, brand-new items from older rollouts still out there, but it's rare that I am lucky enough to score them on a promo and in my size!

  15. OT but I had a little mishap with my beaded rose necklace this morning and two of the flowers fell off. I JUST bought it last Friday. Do you think it's worth trying to take it back for an exchange?

    1. Absolutely take it back, Susan. I'm sure you will not have any trouble. I have had similar situations with jewelry items and always received an exchange.

  16. My bow ring has only been worn about five times total and is already tarnishing and today it turned my finger green. How would I need to go about handling this issue--e-mailing customer service or doing an online chat? Could I reasonably expect them to take it back? I saw the response to the necklace question above and it seems like I could try to get something done about it.

  33. Went to the B&M today - the Spring colors are so refreshing given the dreadful storms this week.

I am about to buy the Martina Patent Wedges in Apricot Mist because I NEED nude heels, but I need help. This is a major purchase for me as $200+ shoes don't often fit in my budget. I love the Martina because it is comfortable and I'm not teetering on spindly high heels (I'm a klutz).

But ... what do you think about the "style longevity" of wedges? Are they having a moment and then going to be "out?" Is this a good shoe investment or should I get a traditional heel?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have three pairs of Martinas. I have no idea if wedges will be "out" but a) they are very comfortable b) I don't know how much I care about this style going out of style in someone's book because it is not (to me) like such a screamingly outre style. c) For me personally, there were not good alternatives for a nude shoe because I prefer the less classic look.
