Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the FALL sale, or to see some new FALL/WINTER arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I'll probably visit. I'm deciding whether to get the Jules in retro jade to wear as a tunic like Shop With M.

Quick review of the houndstooth scarf in this post.

  2. OT Ladies, when I'm asked at the register if someone was helping me with my purchases is that because the SA's are on commission or is J Crew just collecting data? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. SA's do work on commission but its something ridiculously low like .5% -- at least that's what I've heard from former employees, could be a different % depending on location, however. They may just be collecting data though because I don't recall them doing that until just recently.

      Delete
    2. No commission - it just keeps track of individual employees' "sales".

      Delete
    3. Agreed, JCrewJD. Sales associate have sales goals they have to reach and that's how their individual sales are tracked.

      Delete
    4. If more than one employee helps you, do you pick the one who helped you the first? Or the one that helped you the most?

I didn't realize this affected them.

      Delete
    5. When you are asked, please tell the cashier! Associates do receive commission but the sales tracking also affects how many hours associates are scheduled, annual raises, and other important components to their employment!

  4. My plan is to hit up the clearance center in Lynchburg with some friends. I really hope I can find some nice goodies.
If I don't have any luck, there might be a trip to the regular J.Crew store or Madewell on Sunday.

    1. Just hit the Lynchburg clearance center today...lots of great stuff. Got that cute ponte dress that sold out online for $40, some navy Minnies, a purple/teal/navy argyle sweater, and a bunch of other things. Great selection even in the more "popular" sizes.

  5. Not this weekend - last Saturday my two daughters cleaned up in the Crewcuts boys section - LOL.

  6. I went yesterday to return an online order of the Merino T Neck Sweater. So I planned to buy the Hothouse Floral Dress through the store. It's sold out online. Turns out the stores that carried the dress, sold out as well. Is this always the case? Should I give up hope that I'm never going to ever own the Hothouse dress? Should I keep trying? I emailed my VPS, hopefully I have luck there. My SF B&M, doesn't even know if they'll get some in. LAME. Now I'm obsessed over the dress that I can't have. :(

    1. and mind you it has only been 3 weeks since that Hothouse Dress debuted. What gives? It seems like J.Crew is not making anymore of it.

    2. I would watch for popbacks online as I think many will be returned. I returned mine and I know others were also not happy with the fit.

      Delete
    3. I am hoping to return/exchange mine in 00 if it pops back in a 0, but would also be happy to sell you my 00 if that's your size. The dress does run small/short though!

None of the NYC J.Crews even received this dress, which I thought was very weird.

    4. @Cass: Exactly, I said the same thing to the sales man that was helping me locate a size, when I said, "I read on this blog I go to that the fit was not popular with women, I don't understand why it would sell out so fast", and of course he just gave me a blank stare, not knowing what I was talking about. Gawd, I love those blank stares they give...(sarcasm)

@Susan: I actually wear a size 4, I thought the length wouldn't be a problem because I am 4'11. Really, it runs small? I wonder if I should consider a 6 as well, to try?

Thanks ladies, i will hang in there. I know J.Crew's stock online has not been updated due to the storm..I hope that is the case. *crossing fingers*

    5. Ah, good news! So i decided to take action myself and called the Madison Street, NYC store. I spoke to an operator assigned to that store to locate the Hothouse Dress for me, because that was where they had my size last. Sure enough, they had my size. I wonder if the Madison St store received more in stock from Thursday??

I can't wait to try it on, hopefully it'll be a hit and not a miss for me.

  7. JSR: I wouldn't give up as I'm sure some will be returned. I am returning mine a size 2 not sure what size you wanted. I reviewed it on the reviews post and appgal did a great review with pics. I'm sure some will love it but I was disappointed as it is shorter than I expected and the sleeves are not flattering IMO. The silk is quite thin and delicate. I wish you luck finding it as I know what it is like to be seeking something from jcrew lol.

    1. @Jan: Thanks! I wear a size 4, ah..so close. So the silk material is thin? Is it like the Silk Scarf Foulard blouse and dress? I have not seen it in IRL, so this is good to know. Maybe I should consider the blouse instead, at least the length would work for me since my torso is short.

      Delete
    2. @JSR I'm so glad that you found one and hope you love it. I haven't seen the silk foulard but for example I have the Blythe silk shirt dress and it doesn't feel like I have to be too careful with it but the hothouse dress felt really thin and delicate to me. Maybe others could chime in. At least the length should work which is important. Hth

      Delete
    3. Yea, i own a Blythe blouse, too. I like the silk on that..But I have seen IRL how the Silk Foulard feels, that is as close as I can compare with the silk JCrew uses.
Oh well if it doesn't work out, Its not meant to be. :)

    4. My Blythe looked like it fit well, but threads pulled across the back with the slightest strain. It fits in the shoulders, bust, etc. and would be too big a size up, but it gets easily damaged with occasional tension.

  8. I would love to go, but I'm hoping for all the wool sweaters, particularly the tippi, to go down in price a little more, and a surprise extra 30% off in store sale. If that happens, someone please let me know ;)

  9. OT: Found an article from Glamour magazine - they've elected Jenna Lyons as their 'Woman of the Year'. Looks like she's wearing a silk top and blazer from Spring 13' collection.

    Oh Jenna....

  10. Don't think I'm going. I'm going to wait til next week. After things start to normalize post-Sandy there should be new markdowns. I'm thinking there will be more online pop backs too. I've had my eye on a few things, some clearance and some new arrivals, that have disappeared from the website so I'll keep stalking. Hopefully final sale will go away too because I need to do some Christmas shopping soon.

    1. Thanks for the review-I don't buy Jcrew sweaters but....I might pick some up for cheap since its hard to stomach more than a couple $300 designer sweaters a season. Keep the thumbs up suggestions coming!

  13. I went at lunch time to my B&M (Park Meadows, CO)the 30% off sale items was not running, even though the sale section was packed to the gills. SAs agreed that there should be a huge sale to try and get the stuff moving. They said that communication from Headquarters is non existent because of email, intranet outages. They have no idea if new sales are coming or not, if they are shipping items back to warehouse etc. Also spoke to PSA on the phone and she concurred on the communications are all down. I needed to cancel a WWFIFY since I had not gotten a shipping notice on it. She was very helpful and actually called the store and it has already shipped but she said I could return it even though it was final sale. I am hoping for an online and store blowout sale to clear things out...

  14. If anyone spots the chiffon dot blouse in Dublin green in a size 8 will you let me know? I fell in love with it and that color looks to be sold out already online! Thanks! erikahoenke@gmail.com

  15. Hi ladies,
On the hunt for a Blythe in Polka Dot in size 00. Systems are down, so they can't tell me which stores if any have inventory. In any event, JCAWFIFY is way better than WWFIFY :-)

  16. I went to my b&m today to return the Hothouse Floral blouse. I'm just not 100% and for the price, I've got to be completely convinced. Anyway, they were unloading new items. I only quickly glanced and all the merch wasn't out, but I did see some nice looking waffle long-sleeve tops - gold button henley style. One new graphic tee w/a giant neon apple on it. At least the material on it was more substantial than in recent past. Sale at my store was totally picked over. Lots of pretty colored sweaters and some new Tippi colors and a new striped Tippi like the Charley, but I like my version better (the camel, light blue, grey stripes), but this one is pretty too.

    1. Glad they'll have waffle tops again this year, although I preferred the crewnecks. And I like their graphic tees, wish they'd do more of them. I've heard it will be mid-November when they roll out the next new merchandise at our store.

    2. I'm glad too about to waffle tops coming back. Really liked the ones from last year.

  17. No time to hit stores it seems anymore. Plus have walked out emptyed handed last 3 x. I do 99 percent of my Christmas shopping online so if final sale is not gone next week JCrew will be out of any of my Christmas business. I have all my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving

  18. Heading to DC later today and will check out the Georgetown J.Crew. I've noticed in the past that even though the store can be quite crowded, there are some decent buys there!

  19. Cathe - Could you please report back after your visit? Id like to know if it's worth a trip out there. I went to the Tysons Galleria store yesterday and there web absolutely nothing new in their sale section. Thank you and have a great day!

  20. Hey, I just stopped in to my store (Southdale, MN) to see if they had anything new in. While in the sale section I found the cardigans with what I consider a piping look, in navy and a rust-like color, both with ivory trim. They were originally $90+ and I wasn't willing to pay that. Now they are $60. I snatched up a navy Small at Mall of America the other day but Southdale has the rust color and the navy.

  21. Anyone notice the gray suede Martina wedge at their store? I need a size 7.5 and 8. Unfortuately I have to try both since my size seems to differ depending on color is this particular shoe.

  22. I went into the B&Ms this week and have some reviews up, including of a new holiday plaid wool Cafe Capri that isn't in stores yet, in this post.

  23. My Trip to Georgetown J. Crew--OMG. First of all, I have to start off by saying traffic and parking was a mess (Nanda--are you reading?)! The G'town store is in that little mall that has, in the past, a very convenient parking lot. Well, there is a renovation in progress and the parking lot is out of commission. So beware shoppers! Parking is a biz-itch! That being said, my plan was to get to the store an hour before our dinner reservations so my shopping was cut short. (Yes, especially since my better half would NOT stop looking at his watch and motioning his head toward the door). The sales were GREAT!! The skinny ankle jeans 39.99--assoorted colors AND my size (30--I need to go up a size in J.Crew jeans) Painter T's on sale for 24.99 (made a purchase of white) a wall of shoes, tons of stuff, but alas, I did not have the time to pick through. I ended up with a denim shirt and the white painter T. So many items-so little time. If you have the time and are patient with parking, by all means get to the G.town shop and you won't be disappointed. OH..the S/A's were so incredibly nice--really-just helpful and pleasant.

  24. The factory store was running a 40% off everything in-store which was stackable with the coupons that they sent out in the mail. I picked up a pair of matchsticks and a wool mini for about $30 a pop and combined my purchases with my sister's to use the coupons.

There was a pretty camel colored Tippi-like sweater with a black Scottie dog on front in the same vein as the Frenchie sweater but so much cuter. It's not online (yet?). I didn't get it because my cat destroyed the last sweater I had with a dog on it (I'm hoping it was just coincidence but now I feel guilty wearing other animals. I know, lol.).

    1. LOL at your cat destroying the dog sweater! That is so funny. I got the puffin version of that sweater today.... they had 40% off at my factory store, too. It is a copy of a cashmere sweater from 2008. I missed out on the original so for once, I bought the semi crappy blend factory version. It's too cute to pass up!

    2. That's too funny about your cat...
Yes it is online, I think it looks cute...

    3. This is the original cashmere puffin sweater.

    4. My Factory store was only doing a store-wide 30% this weekend -- what the heck?! I would have saved an additional $50 if it had been 40% -- so frustrating!

      Delete
    5. J.CrewJD,
I think that I like the original better. Plus it would be far away from Ms. "I-hate-all-dogs-period" since I store my cashmere sweaters in clear storage containers.

      Anonymous,
I hate when that happens at my regular retail store. For some reason, they always run a 25% off sale when every other store is running a 30% off. What's up with that?
