This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  5. I received a Lands' End/Lands' End Canvas order yesterday: four hits and one miss.

My favorite part of the order: two LE cotton mesh polo dresses (item # 412448A63). I was looking at these last year but I waited too long to order and all the pretty colors sold out. I wasn't sure what size to order as knit dresses can be tricky. I went with my smaller size, as I usually do with LE knits, and I'm very happy with the fit.

I bought both colors in the LEC short sleeved cotton shirt with the anchor on the chest (item # 415538X73). It fits the same as my long sleeve LEC shirts, which means it's a little bit boxy and a little shorter than I prefer. I like it anyway and it'll be nice to wear to work on hot summer days.

I see why the LEC striped cotton sweater (item # 411195X79) has been languishing in the clearance section for so long. This is the most unflattering sweater I've ever tried! I look 20 pounds heavier in the middle. Even though I only paid $12, it's going back.

  6. I have placed four LEC orders in two weeks.
    Loves:

Women's Anchor Embroidered Slouch chinos - Adorable with little embroidered anchors that are not a different color so it's subtle, very cute! I got two sizes, my regular and one size up so I could roll them up and belt them for a slouchy beachy look. $70 FP but I've paid $25. for one and 30% for two.

White Denim Slim Leg Jeans - Very cute! Loved so much I bought three pair. $60 FP but I've paid $25. for one and 30% off for two.

White Oxford - This is tailored at the waist so a more "girly" fit. $50 FP, paid $25. for one and 30% for another.

Cafe Cardigan - Like the Jackie but with a 3/4 sleeve and maybe a bit better quality, same fit. $50. paid 30% off

Lands End Short Sleeve Oxfords - there are 2 or 3 styles, I've really been needing short sleeve white shirts so I'm buying an assortment of styles. $25-$50 30% Off, now there's a 25% off code

LEC Lightweight Slouch Chinos - These are cute but I only wanted one pair $25. in French Walnut. Like Waverlys more.

LEC Open Crew Raglan Sweater - Indigo Denim, fits dumpy, straight down, returned $45.

Long Sleeve V-Neck Cardigan Dhurrie - Not sure I like the knit pattern though the weight and quality are quite good. $39.99 returned

French Terry Crew Sweatshirt - $34. in Oro. It's cute, fits big. Was just okay, returned but may get again in different color if on sale

Long sleeve Chambray - $25. on sale, very cute!

Short sleeve Pattern Anchor Oxford - $11.99, very cute, two colors

I might have missed some things, the T-shirts are good quality, will need to see if the neck stretches out like JC Perfect Tees have been. All in all, the quality has been excellent and I feel like LEC is filling a gap I really had for the practical pieces that are well made and can be dressed up. I find I'm checking LEC daily like I do with JC, difference being I'm ordering the LEC and I'm not depressed when I get an LEC order because I had much better quality pictured in my head.

  7. Has anyone noticed how some of Ann Taylor's things are so similar to Jcrew?
The ann taylor scattered blossoms top looks like the jcrew collection crystal daisy blouse and the ann taylor back zip denim short sleeve top looks so much like the jcrew chambray top?

  8. Hi ObsessedWShopping, I noticed that too. I was wondering if maybe Marissa Webb ended up over there. I miss her.

    1. I actually really like them. They seem to be more "flattering" than the j crew pieces, not to mention affordable.

    2. Marissa is on pinterest and looks like she is starting up something (isn't mentioned but she is hinting). I wonder if she has a non compete agreement and had to sit out a 6-12 month wait period (typical for executives taking on competing offers in same industry).

I follow her pins and love her style!

  9. Dina clued me in to the Boden fall preview (bodenpreview.com) and there are so many cute things! FYI - there's a colorblocked heel that is reminiscent of the Penelope heels if you've been stalking those! You can get 20% off and free ship/returns right now.

  10. Just posted a bunch of Canvas/LE reviews with pics here, just in case anyone's thinking of ordering today before the promo ends. Eyelet dress, Silk polka dot dress and some clearance fall/winter items.

  11. Can anyone advise on Ann Taylor suiting? Is the quality all right? Also, I usually wear Banana Republic suits and if anyone has any comparison between the two I'd really appreciate it. Thanks:)

  12. Any one try the Trina Turk collection from Banana Republic? I am curious.

    Check it out:

Look at this necklace, very similar to J.Crew bubble:

    I am intrigued!

  13. I am so tired of the polyester material at Ann Taylor. EVERYTHING is poly - there is rarely a silk piece and I feel like the prices are similar to J.Crew. I'm so done shopping there!

  14. I was in my BR store last night and saw some of the Trina Turk pieces. I was not really impressed, a little too bright for me and my lifestyle. I did not check out actual material but they all looked and felt like poly not silk. HTH

  15. Tammy: I purchased two Trina Turk for Banana Republic tops yesterday. They were flying out of the store. I got the printed cowl neck halter tank (100% silk) and the Pisces print blouse (silk/cotton blend). Both are absolutely adorable and great quality. Plus I received a cardholder gift of a Trina Turk hinged enamel bangle bracelet AND $25 off my $100 purchase. Can't wait to wear the new tops! I can certainly see how Trina's prints are not for everyone, though. My co-worker was not impressed when I showed her the mailer I got. Said it was too "hippy dippy" for her. More for me, I say!
