Quick Heads Up: JCrewAficionada on eBay {not really}

It has recently come to my attention that there is a seller on eBay named "jcrewaficionada". To avoid any misunderstanding or confusion, I just want to say that is not me. Although, I am flattered that someone liked the phrase enough to use it as their own personal screen name to sell J.Crew merchandise. (I like the phrase too!) :)

On a semi-random note, the first time I saw "J.Crew Aficionada" on eBay was when I saw the image of the JCA header in a listing. The listing also mentioned "as seen on J.Crew Aficionada...". I smiled when I saw it for I knew this blog had made it. ;) Hazzah!

Have a great weekend JCAs!

  1. You know what they say about the most sincere form of flattery ... at least I hope that's the intent. I'd probably "trust" that seller more if I thought it was you so it's good to know. Thanks for the post, Alexis.

  2. Tiffany Rose: I agree! It was and is flattering that someone likes the blog (and corresponding name) enough to use it. And I love that we have our own acronym (JCA) too. :) Just wanted to clarify that it wasn't me in case there was anyone thinking that.

  3. Thanks for the heads up Alexis. I would have assumed that user to be you. And I agree with Tiffany Rose that I would have been more inclined to purchase if it were you.

  4. Alexis, thank you for the heads up. It could definitely cause confusion and "borrows" (to put it nicely) equity in the JCA name.

Another caution to be on your toes when shopping on ebay :)

  5. Alexis, you're definitely being too generous with eBay seller who is using your name. Your blog foes have significant currency with JCAs. I would actually assert copyright (which you automatically have over any published/written word, and get eBay or theseller to stop immediately. I seem to remember a recent scandal with an Anthropologie Blogger - why sd anyone get to potentially sully the name/image you have painstakingly built here?

  6. I agree with maqsad. While flattering...you should protect yourself and the JCA name.

  7. Ruffles: Exactly! Definitely be cautious on eBay and ask questions when something doesn't feel right.

maqsad & Hollylovescrew: You brought up a good point. I am assuming whomever "jcrewaficionada" is, s/he has read the blog (and maybe even this post?) and she is just associating herself as a jcrew aficionada, (not the Alexis of J.Crew Aficionada.) :)

If s/he ever directly associated her/himself with the blog, then definitely the name was used to purposely to take advantage of the J.Crew Aficionada name. (But I haven't seen any evidence so far to indicate this.) I will definitely keep my eye on this. :)

  8. Alexis, if you wait you jeopardize your position. Don't wait. If it's a fake Alexis, her/his items could be counterfeit as well.

  10. While we're on topic, there is an Ebay seller called Gigi's Gone Shopping. It's not me. I think she's been a seller for quite some time and a couple JCAs had good transactions w/her. I didn't know of her existence before I picked my blog name. I haven't had any interaction w/her.

On the upside, at least the jcrewaficionada seller isn't swiping pics from blogs. Odd choice about the name and too bad. Would be nice to see you copyright & monetize, Alexis. $.02.

  11. To her credit she is pretty clear in her profile: No affiliation with J. Crew or the blogspot blog! Just a fan of classic preppy clothes and great ebay deals.

She's been on ebay since December 2010 so it may be a little late to file a complaint with ebay and you may not have a case if the name is not a registered trademark. Alexis, you may want to consider making it a trademark to protect your brand.

  12. No harm in linking to a blog with review pictures, but would have been more accurate to specify those were NOT her reviews.

Alexis has been using the JCA term for a number of years, so even if it is not a registered trademark, she can demonstrate 'prior use' easily by pointing to this blog.

  13. OT ... Carolyn from Vancouver here
What do all the JCA's think/assume is up next...another coupon code for sale items ? Or do all those items continue to linger there.
Any Vancouverites know when the J Crew is opening here...did I read correctly that it is two stores... one on Robson and one in the pacific centre mall ? So exciting. There was a story in a mag. recently about all the remodeling of the Club Monaco stores. They really out did themselves with a new look. J Crew needs a make-over store wise is my opinion.
JCA's from Seattle...which of the three stores U Village, Bellevue, or downtown is your favorite store...which is the best, biggest and carries the most sale items. I have only been to the U Village store. I thought it was small. The anthro at this mall was HUGE. Thanks in advance. Carolyn

  14. I agree with the other ladies that it's important to protect your name and blog's reputation Alexis.

  15. It's not as if you called this blog Alexis123. J. Crew Aficionada is a very distinctive name, and the average person would immediately assume that you are the seller.

  16. It's annoying when someone capitalizes on someone else's hard work.

And now back to J.Crew! :)
