J.Crew's After Holiday Sales {meh}

Greta (in this post) has made a simple observation that I thought warranted its very own post:
The after-Christmas sales at J Crew have been underwhelming.
I could not agree more!!! Is this not the time when retailers give greater discounts to move out merchandise?

After all the a-ma-zing promotions we saw from J.Crew in the weeks leading up to Christmas, it is surprising to see such lack luster offers from them now.

I got a better a deal on items purchased a few weeks with the option to return (none of this final sale nonsense). I could almost get on board with "final sale" if the prices were lower, but they seem to be at the same sale price points from last year.

I am hoping that J.Crew will run a killer promo after this SHOPNOW ends. Until then, I will wait a bit longer.

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's post-Christmas promotions? Are you disappointed or pleased with them?

  2. I was at the Canadian store today and about 70% of the store is sale merchandise at an additional 50% off sale prices. This is the one and only time Canadian prices are cheaper than US online sale prices!

But pls see my other post (in the vent thread from today) about no online returns at the Canadian store. That's completely horrible!

  3. I think they may have had better inventory management this year so there's not as great of an urgency to clear out what they have left in stock as in prior years. I remember after last Christmas getting some incredible deals on 4 coats, whereas today all the colors I'd been hoping to snag on sale have long been sold out in my size.

  4. I agree. The after Xmas sales are lame. I was at my store today and the sale area was pretty ragged looking and the new merch was slim. I did see the frog necklace and bracelet and thought they were cute. I do see what others mean about the brown links. Would NOT pay FP.

  5. I ordered a wool crepe blazer on this sale and I received the 25% off online even though it's not a final sale item. *like

I feel the items put on sale in store after christmas were very nice (no. 2 pencil double serge wool skirt $79.99+30% off), but the stock on these items were low low low. The skirt in particular, which I think most of us could easily own in every color, only was in stock in black, charcoal, and the in store purplish color. There may* have been 10 or 15 total in stock and not much more variety online.

Expecting major pop backs in the weeks to come.

  6. I really agree - I am totally underwhelmed. I scored a couple of goodies beforehand (stadium cloth boulevard trench and lady lace) and am feeling satisfied. Nothing I am dying to have - although wish there was since I got a big gift card for Xmas!

  7. I don't think I will ever be on board for final sale unless the discounts are like the ann taylor cashmere sweaters that I got for 22 dollars verses original price of 120 last season online.

  8. Hi Alexis - agree completely - I am finding the prices way too high for no returns. I have my eye on a couple of regular priced items, but can wait!

  9. I got a Shelly shirtdress, a couple of silk blouses, a schoolboy blazer and a hacking jacket from the sale. Not too shabby.

I posted a review of the blazer on my blog and will post one for the hacking jacket when it comes!

  10. Alexis, I'm right there with you on this post. The pre-Christmas promos were far better than what is currently being offered. That along with a better selection before the 25th is why all of us are holding off ..... for a better selection and lower prices. Basically all that's around on the men's sale rack are XS and XXl.

Here's hoping we get something good this weekend.

  11. Totally agree. Have my cart full of items for my kids, just waiting for a decent sale to pull the trigger. Where is the lovely 25% off we had?

  13. couldn't agree more on your post. i was very much disappointed by the "final sale" nonsense as well.
It seems like j.crew does not quite understand selling products.

  14. There wasn't much that I wanted before Christmas either.

  15. @ Ana
agree with you about the inventory last year I scored on the coat i wanted the week before Christmas. This year the same week not a coat to be seen in the store.
quite sure that if there were excess amounts of coat or sweaters they would be unloading them now while the spring mdse is coming in

  16. I couldn't agree more! Frankly, they couldn't pay me to take half of those items in Final Sale. I def. will not shop during Final Sale, especially since the items I would choose I have never seen in person as they don't carry them at my local b&m. Thankfully, if ever I am tempted by a pretty dress, but don't know if it will fit, I have a wonderful personal shopper who will send it out with the ability to return - even during Final Sale. But I know that this is because she knows me and my issues with sizes. This winter has been milder where I live, and I have yet to wear all of my coats, jackets and cashmere items as they are too hot. So I really don't need MORE - still need to wear items I have and have bought. But really, what is the deal with J Crew and their nasty attitude toward their customers in general? Remember when "the customer was always right?" We can talk with our actions - and just stop buying that Final Sale stuff!!

  17. mommycamille, I was in the Yorkdale store today, and I agree, it's probably the only time that the sale prices are lower than the U.S. online sale prices. There were quite a few things that are sold out online that are still in the store, but I bought so much during the promos before Christmas (and not final sale!), I didn't feel the need to get anything.

I'm waiting for popbacks and better promos or further price reductions on the online site. Having said that, I finally scored the pony skirt this morning when it popped back on the website - I have been stalking it for nearly a month now.

  18. {meh} is right! Major disappointment although I think that I have completely stocked up on every imaginable cashmere sweater they have!

  19. This year, I too, was not thrilled about the final sale. I also felt like I was on the waiting list for many of the items that I ordered. There are four items that I can think of off hand. Two of them I still have not received. I do not remember it being like this in years past.

  20. Really disappointed! Boxing day sale is supposed to be BETTER, not worse than pre-Christmas! This is when they need to get rid of stock. Confused about what they're doing (or not doing).

  21. Unknown: It seems like they have sacrificed their inventory in favour of not having to offload a ton of stuff at a deep discount. They are trying to save money by offering much fewer of every item. If it sells out, they look good. If there is huge demand afterward, they can make more (hence the numerous and lengthy backorders). But on the other hand, if it doesn't sell at full price they can offload the excess stock at a slight discount and final sale. Altogether, it seems like a despicable way to treat customers, but I suppose that's business? As long as we keep buying, they can (and will) get away with it.

  22. I think we still have some good sales coming up. It seems they took a little break on sales last year at this time.

It is funny that we were complaining about to many sales before. I guess you could say it takes a lot to keep us happy (like 40% off sale!!)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Disappointed, of course. They could do better. I got a coat, bag, and sweaterdress (although this one appears to have been lost in transit for now) with 30% off before Christmas, NO final sale.

  24. Alexis,

Glad that my little thought resonated with you and some other JCAs!

  25. On the occasion of Christmas and new year, the e-commerce companies are offering sale and discount on the various category of products such as Clothing, Personal Care, Health, Foot Wear, Electronics etc. These are the most popular category, whose products have been searched for by many people.
