JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I'm looking for help with outfits for the Stadium-cloth car coat in buffalo plaid. I love the coat but want to tone down the brightness. Any ideas? I really want to keep it and would love to know how others wear it. Thanks!

  2. Slightly OT, but not sure where else to put this...

Is anyone else finding that their Scoopneck blouse in Seine stripe wrinkles horribly? This is my 2nd time wearing it and it's happened both times. Putting a jacket over it causes HUGE creases in the fabric... and it's pretty much all over the shirt. Any tips? Thanks!

  3. A bright pairing with some old favorites, including the No. 2 Pencil Skirt here.

  4. mini, just wear it just like the model is, with basic black or other basic colours (navy, grey). It's a great coat... enjoy!

Jackie, that is typical of the rayon fibre, I'm afraid.

  5. I bought the Minnie pant in the Vibrant Flame color and WHOA is it bright! I love them but can't figure out what to style it with to make it winter work appropriate (business casual environment).

    Help! Thanks in advance!

  6. Jen: Tone the vibrant flame down with lots of grey, like a simple grey sweater and shoes/boots. I love that combination of colours together. Black is too harsh IMO. Camel works well too but it stands out a bit more than grey.

  7. mini -- I just received the Buffalo Plaid car coat and I find the colour pretty much as I expected & not too bright. I love that it's an orangy red and doesn't skew too pink or too red-red.

I agree with Rose -- I plan to pair it primarily with solid dark colours like black or gray, but I think it will also look amazing with it camel or caramel tones, and winter white too. And, of course, with jeans!

  8. Clicquot,
I'm glad you like it. I like it with camel and grey too. I'm gonna see how it works with what I have in my closet.

Thanks Rose for your help too!

  9. I need help getting out of my sleepwear slump! I'm all too ready to give up the ratty tank and sweats I've been wearing for the last few years, but am having a hard time finding the right balance between feeling attractive, and being appropriately covered in front of my 2 and 4-yr-olds. I was hoping the end-on-end stripe nightshirt would be a solution, but at 5' 7", it barely covers my bum. I'm not a big fan of menswear style pajamas, so I'm just really at a loss. Any ideas?

  11. ifky12-- How about wearing the nightshirt with a pair of those cute boy short-style underwear when you're out of bed? Modest, but still sexy.

  12. ifky12- I have always been a fan of the men's style pjs in fun prints. JCRew has some nice ones but they sell each piece separately and they are a bit expensive. Ralph Lauren always hase cute prints ( Macy's) and Norsdstom carries nice ones too.

  13. @MJ - I would love to get a pair of J Crew's pj bottoms, if only I could find a feminine tank/cami with a bit of support in it to wear with them. I will give Nordstrom a try!

@Cliquot - that is a great idea! I actually wore the nightshirt last night because, other than the length, it is just so perfect. Until I find the right boyshort, I just have to be careful when bending over ;)

  14. Does anyone have any ideas for the silk Rhea pullover in antique white? It just arrived today and I love it but it's a bit more tunic-y than I expected!

  15. I just scored the Flair skirt in double-serge wool in heather acorn at my local store for $49.99. Online price for that one on sale is $108.00..can't believe but does anyone own this skirt? if so how did you find it to be and what do you wear it with?
