  1. I cannot believe all these promos. I've never seen anything like it. I wish the item I want would pop back!!

  2. Yawn - not much new added (if any) still looks like the same same same stuff. No temptations, thank you, JC!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Kinda looks like their starting prices could be 25% lower, eh? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  4. They are definitely hiding stock that was there last night. $$ saved for me:)

  5. I agree silver_lining. I am trying to hold out until after Xmas! These promos are crazy!

  6. All the promos remind me of BR, GAP, ON, Ann Taylor, LOFT, and Talbots...a new one every couple of days now. This has truly been "The Year of the Promo" at J.Crew.

  7. I'm getting dizzy with all these promos. It's starting to remind me of Kohl's!

Alexis, I don't think there actually is free shipping with the 25% off this time, at least there wasn't when I tried it.

  8. Such great deals between Talbot's Loft, J Crew and Anthro!

  9. I'm waiting until after Christmas but it's great to finally see JC offering sales. I just hope they continue the promotions throughout the calendar year.

  10. I am debating if I should order Wynter cowlneck sweater with the promo. Does anyone have it? What do you think about it?

  12. Free Shipping only applies to orders over $150.

It's probably silly when you're looking at spending over $100 on a coat, but that $8.95 is enough to talk me out of the purchase.

  13. I waited too long on a couple of things I'd like, and of course they're sold out in my sizes/colours I wanted. Oh well...probably the universe telling me that I need to stop shopping! Plus, I've had about seven JC deliveries with all the recent promos...can't complain that I don't have enough already.

  14. Every day it's something, I wonder what they'll do tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Until they add new inventory to the sale there's nothing I want. THe full price items will probably go on sale and if they don't, I can live without them. Anything I want in the sale isn't in my size or isn't in a color I want. I have a suspect others feel the same way as a lot of this stuff isn't moving for a reason--wrong colors, odd sizes, too expensive or just not a must have.

  16. I wanted to share with fellow JCAs that I emailed Mickey (Millard.Drexler@jcrew.com ) with the simple message - Please bring back the Bella jacket! He actually responded, copying Jenna Lyons, and said he'd look into it! If you feel like me, send him an email and maybe we can get a campaign going :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. silver_lining, you are right on target, as usual.

Lawyerette, they may bring back the Bella but I'd be very skeptical of the quality. The old ones are really great, mine have lasted through years of constant wear and still look like new and the style is classic. I know many love them but this year's hacking and Lexington knockoff jackets are not even close in comparison. You just can't cut so many quality corners and end up with the same result.

  18. I got an email from our local store that there is 30% off sale items in store. I don't know if it's Final Sale (it usually is when there is an additional off, but maybe they will change their policy for the holidays).

  19. Does anyone have pics of the plaza coat, pref. in cobalt? Thanks!

  20. Hi xoxo - ITA that I would likely not purchase a Bella re-issue. They'd probably make it a $350+ Collection piece because it's so coveted, and then omit the details that made the original special (while adding prickly shoulder pads!). Don't get me wrong, I'd love for the quality to come back, but it's been on the decline for 3-4 years now and won't change overnight (or at all if there's no reason for Mickey to push for it).

    Two slightly OT items:
    a) I asked my B&M about extending the 30-day return policy for the holidays. They said that holiday returns will be accepted up through January 15th.

    b) I saw a men's equivalent of the shedding double-breasted sweater disaster thingie in the B&M sale section yesterday. It was a black zip-up sweater jacket that was pilled and shedding in the exact way the women's one did. Beware! I don't think it's online anymore but if I notice it I'll post the item number.

  21. I wish I had an original Bella, but at this point I would more likely buy the new version if they made one than chance buying on Ebay. I have had a recent horror story that will permanently keep me from shopping on Ebay. So, I hope that jcrew remakes it again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @ Silver Lining: I saw that men's jacket in store and had actually considered buying it for my husband. It's a black fleece zip-up with sherpa lining. It was piling hideously and on sale for something like $20, and about $30 more online. It probably wouldn't look so bad in its plastic packaging but obviously it disintegrates as soon as it comes in contact with human touch. Buyers beware.

    ReplyDelete
  23. What's next, 40% off sale items at JC? Haven't seen that one for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  24. silver_lining, I'm not surprised about the pilling men's sweater. Although the men's line hasn't had the obvious quality decline we've seen in women's, there are a few things. My husband complained this fall that some of the knits are now see-through, they are so thin. Buttons are falling off shirts and pants on the *first* wear. There was also an issue with sizing on a twisted-rib shirt that was purchased in the same size and different colors. In one of the colors the shirt was the same everywhere, except almost 2" shorter in body length.

At the B&M earlier this fall the SA actually steered me away from the men's hoodie with quilted lining because he said it was really thin and some of them were sent back due to open seams. Unfortunately I suspected it was only a matter of time.

  25. did someone mention on another post (which i can't find right now) that the glen plaid pencil skirt was on sale in the stores now?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ivana - I bought the wynter cowlneck at FP and returned it. The quality just wansn't there - it was thin and felt like it would look horrible after a few wears. Disappointing because it looked so cozy online. Even my husband thought it looked cheap, and he never notices that kind of thing - it was enough for me to zip it right back to the store.

  27. OT: I need your help ladies! I'm looking for a pair of women's leather gloves (preferably under $50) that can be used with touchscreen devices (iPhone, etc). Any ideas? I know Talbot's has some, but they are not leather. Any help would be great!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Miss JR,

Yes, the skirt is $89.99 in stores now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. AppGal, I saw a few different pairs of leather gloves on the Isotoner website which are designed for touchscreen devices. While not the most fashion forward selection out there, I thought these stretch leather and spandex ones were kinda nice for $37.80 on sale:

ISOTONER Women's smarTouch Stretch Leather and Spandex Gloves - Fleece Lined

  30. AppGal, Echo has leather touch gloves -- I got some for my husband as a stocking stuffer:

    Good luck!

  31. AppGal, shoot, I skimmed over your "under $50" request! So sorry!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I agree the number of promos is unheard of, but I did get the Wintress puffer in the color that I wanted. Since it is not Final Sale I decided I should go ahead and order it seeing that it popped back (and once my store guy said inventory showed only 1 in stock...).But this coat shopping for me is more like after Xmas most years, what with Anthro's 50% off sale.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Does anyone know about the university coat for men's quality and fit (looking for my father)? I haven't really looked at the outerwear for this season, so I'm not sure whether I should avoid or splurge. It's currently on sale for 149.99 + 25% - good deal?

    ReplyDelete
  34. A, I am intrigued by your eBay horror story that is so bad, you're not shopping eBay anymore! Any way you're willing to share?

I'd buy a new bella, if they had it in tall sizes. I've never seen tall bellas in my size on eBay and it is only because of the amazing JCA community that I own two of them. Knowing J.Crew, there would be no talls though... they have jettisoned most of their tall offerings in the last four years or so. If they'd bring back tall dresses (there is one this year, which is great!), I'd buy many more!

I am also trying to wait until after Christmas to place any more J.Crew orders...

    ReplyDelete
  35. JcrewJD - let's just say an item described as in excellent condition and it is in fact dirty and smelly.

    ReplyDelete
  36. A, that is TERRIBLE. I think I'd be washing my hands with Comet after that... EW.

Another fun one is buying something listed as new without tags that arrives with, say, a used Kleenex in the pocket!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Regarding pricing-I remember last year watching a coat go on sale and grabbing it the week before Christmas. They had a big, big sale with markdowns and POS markdown too. It might be worth waiting and watching, it you really want something.

Nothing that exiciting this fall for me. other than the iphone case but $25?????

    ReplyDelete
  38. Will try my best to hold on my purchases. There's got to be a better sale coming up soon.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thi, I got the university coat for my husband 2 years ago for about the same price and found it to be a good deal. It's a nicely made coat and classic. I hope they didn't cut corners on the 2011 version but if it's not final sale I'd say to give it a try.

Site currently says 8 days left for standard delivery. I predict that final sale will be back in effect by the 23rd - and it will be without warning, so I'd take advantage of these promos to see something IRL if you need to (and have it be returnable!).

    ReplyDelete
  40. JcrewJD - that is how I felt. I washed my hands and changed immediately. Now I ave a case opened. So frustrating and a Big EW on used tissues.
Sorry for being OT ladies. This has really gotten to me since its not the first time. So gross.

    ReplyDelete
  41. J.CrewJD, I don't even consider anything on ebay that claims to be "new without tags." IME the majority are far from new. The worst case for me was a jacket that was filthy, heavily worn and had a huge rip! I was furious. It wasn't even in wearable condition, much less "new." Paypal refunded my money and told me to put the worn out jacket in the trash, which I did.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have been burned on NWOT items too. Deodorant marks, perfume smell, obvious "wear" creases.

It's true that there have been rare times when I personally have "prematurely" cut the tags off an item and never worn it, but I really don't think it happens that often.

I believe that times these things on ebay probably AREN'T new ... but unscrupulous sellers attempt to get more $$$ by passing off a used item as "new." With no real "objective" way to tell, you're relying on the seller's word, and that can be risky.

    ReplyDelete
  43. A: I am SO sorry that you're having to deal with this. I pray that you get this issue resolved ASAP. I just wish that people would be honest. How does a dishonest seller get 100% positive feedback?

    ReplyDelete
  44. A: I had an almost identical experience and have tried contacting the seller; it will be my first really negative transaction. I have been frustrated recently with Ebay items marked as NWOT (yet COVERED in lint, deodorant marks) or "perfect, worn once" (yet pilling and lint everywhere, what?!), or the worst -- J.Crew Factory/Outlet marked as J.Crew only (thank goodness from 07-08 so quality was fine). I'm giving up ebaying for J.Crew also for the time being. Sad, because I'm a seller of gently-used but outgrown J.Crew items with 100% positive feedback, and I'm shocked that other sellers make it so hard for good sellers to seem legit.

  45. Got the Stadium Cloth Boulevard Trench that I ordered the other night when the promos were overlapping. Got it for $170. Pretty nice, doesn't seem itchy, fits well. I think it's a keeper.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm still wondering what the difference is between the double cloth and the stadium cloth. I am hoping the stadium cloth is warmest, as I live in MN.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Regarding buying items listed as NWOT but used...I recently bought a jacket on the JCA Weekly Exchange the seller listed as NWOT, but when I checked the pockets, I found a restaurant receipt inside...not so new...

    ReplyDelete
  48. thee new tuxedo pants are too full at the hips so you look 20 pounds heavier

    ReplyDelete
  49. Charlotte - you are correct, stadium cloth is warmer. Both fabrics are fabulous. The double cloth has a slight textured look and the stadium cloth is a smoother look. There is also the option of thinsulate lined, which makes the coat warmer. I am sure somebody else will have even more insight into this.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I have also had the experience of buying something 'NWOT' or 'worn once' on e-bay that was falling apart or smelly when it arrived. Yuck!

Christy, I, too have bought 'NWOT' on JCA exchange and gotten something with ink spots that looked like it had been lying in a crumpled heap in a closet for a year. I forgave that one, as my fabulous dry cleaner made it look good as new ;)

Sitting out this promo, waiting for 'the big one'--we'll see if it comes!

    ReplyDelete
  51. So what would be warmer, stadium cloth or thinsulate lined double cloth? The stadium cloth coat I bought did not have a thinsulate option. :(

    ReplyDelete
  52. A, it's unfortunate an unscrupulous seller has tried to take advantage of you. I've had some bad experiences on ebay and one of the sellers had their account set up so I could not even contact them through ebay or email, I had to call them on the phone. Very unpleasant. I'm not deterred though, overall my experience has been quite good as both a buyer and seller.

    ReplyDelete
  53. CharlotteSometimes, as the owner of a crazy number of J.Crew coats, I believe the stadium cloth is warmer than the double cloth with thinsulate.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Good to know, thanks! My BF just got a stadium cloth WITH thinsulate, wish I had had that option (but his is also itchier than mine, haha).

    ReplyDelete
  55. CharlotteSometimes, I agree with Jeanne regarding the warmth of the double cloth + Thinsulate vs. stadium cloth. I also personally think that the stadium cloth holds up a little better, just because of the thickness. For instance, I really hate when I am wearing a longer coat and it wrinkles from sitting or driving, and I never have that problem with my Boulevard Trench (just a little pilling under the arms that is easy to fix). My double cloths are nicer when it's around 30-40 F outside, though (I get overheated easily).

  56. gah! in the hopes that someone will see this before midnight tonight...

how do we like the 1035 trouser in wool herringbone? I have a very slim waist but a larger derriƩre that doesn't make sense with a smaller waist and as such pants are either going to be tight here or loose there. ANNOYING! the trousers seem nice though; are they lined? stiff? itchy? dreadful? Thank you *so* much!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks @silver_lining - I decided to go ahead and purchase it since I can always return it.I do hope it's a keeper though.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Next promo is one of those staggered affairs: 20% off $100, 25% of $150, 30% off $250...Frankly, I'm shopped out! But it is fun to see what the next promo will be :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. @Kendra, I reviewed the Plaza in Cobalt HERE
