JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I'd love some ideas for colours to pair with the maraschino cherry Wool Cafe Trousers. I've done camel, grey, navy and black, but if anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them! TIA!

  2. Caitlin: I can't really tell if the maraschino cherry is a true red or a pinkish red, but I think red and yellow always look good together. A nice, bold/bright blue looks nice too. If that's too much brightness you can just use those colors as an accessory color (e.g. belt, shoes, etc.) or accessorize with neutrals to break it up.

Does that help at all? Maybe I should look into this Polyvore thing everyone's using these days...

  3. I'm attending a wedding in DC in January, and I'd really like some advice about outfits. The wedding is going to be a simple affair at the courthouse in the morning; then there's a family dinner at a fancy dinner that evening. The next day I'm attending a banquet being thrown by the bride's parents. I would like to dress up for the events, but I also want to stay warm.

  4. Is there a noticeable difference between the thinsulate coats vs nonthinsulate ones? Is it that much warmer with thinsulate?

  5. cuckoo - yes, much warmer with insulate. If you are in the east coast or mid-western area, don't even think about buying one without insulate if you are planning to wear it for winter.

  6. Spotted the Boulevard Trench in the maraschino cherry color and fell in LOVE!!! the associate handed me the minnie pant in bi stretch wool, vintage thermal tee in black and white, and a chunky knit infinity scarf in bright off white color. It was a dream outfit for the holidays! If anybody's on the fence with the maraschino cherry color, it's a definite love. Gotta see it to love it. :)

  9. I just bought the suede MacAlister wedge boots in warn redwood (http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shoes/macalister/PRDOVR~28671/28671.jsp) but I can't really think of anything to wear them with - It's cold here so capris and skirts are out. Got any suggestions?

  11. @cuckoo: the Thinsulate is significantly warmer, but thankfully doesn't add the bulk in the J.Crew coats.

Vibrant Flame fans: is this a colour that someone with medium brown hair tint, green eyes and fair skin with pink undertones can pull off? Usually that colouring is supposed to stay clear of orange. Any advice/photos?
