J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. OT, but doesn't the LOVEIT promo continue until tomorrow night? I just went on the website and they are calling out a SHIP175 promo on the homepage...weird!

Less OT, I ordered the Index Dress and the No. 2 in heather acorn - they should be here on Wednesday so I will do a review then. I also posted a review of the Hacking Jacket in a recent review thread...TTS and I love it!

  3. Caitlin, you have no idea how weird, but I posted a screenshot to capture this moment.

  5. Ladies I just tried using LOVEIT and it still works!!!

  6. Uhg. The Final sale was wiped out but this new promo is L.A.M.E.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I just ordered the final items I was deciding on. I am sort of glad it is OVER! I feel like it is kind of crummy that they would end it early though...

    Sleep is calling my name!

  9. The 40% off LOVEIT promo is still on. I just checked.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hmmm. WFF.... is that the update? I am usually never up this early.

    ReplyDelete
  11. WFF: love your post!
I even double checked on Ebates and the 40% promo still works.

I'd love at least 20% off any order code soon!

    ReplyDelete
  12. The update was pretty pathetic today - only about 100 items. However the 40% is still working and ebates cashback is up to 4%!

  13. Here's some pics of cobblestone indio pursette, tawny sand delaney eyelet skirt, toffee dorrie skirt, melon forever cardi, seashore green shortcut sweater, and shocking pink 3" chinos....if anyone is interested http://bit.ly/reApTd

  14. oh, boy! $175 is steep. I did pick up a canvas bronwyn this AM as my last hooray. Not sure I will love it, but I like canvas bags :>

  15. Can anyone comment on the Sevigne washed leather heels? I've decided to become obsessed with them now that they're sold out. I'm stalking for a popback. If I have to buy on ebay I'd pay more so I'd love a review.

  16. Has anyone noticed that banana republic is using j.crew's model? She's featured online in BR's suiting (I'm referring to the gal in the yellow no. 2 pencil in the new fall j.crew ads. They look like they're even trying to make their models make the same facial expressions. Copy-cat much?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Can anyone comment on the canvas espadrilles? I'm loving the modern red, but I've actually never ordered anything online that's final sale so I'm kind of nervous about it (especially since they're shoes, which I can't have altered). JCrewphd said they were snug on her, but otherwise they're TTS. Anyone else have them? Are they worth the risk?

  18. The LOVEIT promo is still on, though no longer showing on the opening page. I grabbed a last few items (shorts and a tee) as my last hurrah.

I finally got my hands on the Super 120s Accordion dress (now sold out, has been popping back on occasion). I wrote a review on my blog here. This is a FABULOUS dress, probably the best dress purchase I have made in a long time. Although other JCAs have said this dress runs very large, sizing down is not always a good idea if you happen to be long-waisted like me. I sized down to a 4, and then the waist seam hit too high, just under my rib cage. I had to exchange it for my usual size 6. It is a little loose in the bust/armhole area but the waist hits at the right spot now.

I also ordered a Factory chambray perfect shirt. I was a little nervous as I have never ordered a Factory item before and have read numerous bad reviews on the quality. However, this one is really quite good, and fits pretty much the same as my other perfect shirts. The colour is a dark heathery indigo blue and the fabric is decent quality. The price of this one is definitely more palatable than the regular version which is $98 and not on sale!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lauren PhD, I am a 7 1/2 and sized up to the 8 in the espadrilles. My toes were hanging over the front, and my heel was right at the back. I thought they fit small.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I had super high expections for this new rollout but I came back kinda disappointed. Some fitting room pix here

My store didn't have the hacking jacket so I ordered the red and blue online and they were already backorderd till early Aug..geez

  21. I already reviewed several of the new arrivals but here is a quick recap:

Double Serge Pencil skirt: fits TTS, like last year, I thought sligthly more fitted in the waist, nice construction.

Wool cafe capri: fit tts, sligthly scratchy.

Hacking Jacket: narrower in shoulders and longer than a schoolboy. Like the fit but unremarkable in charcoal. TTS.
    Wool seemed rough.

Memo dress. Low cut. TTS. Unremarkable in black.

Boy shirt in stripe crepe de chine tts, henna reads very brownish.

Stripe boatneck tee. Run tts to small. The neck is quite high. Flame color is very pretty.

Leopard Print - did not try any pieces but the print overall is great. I am not into animal prints but this rendition is almost tempting. Especially in perfect shirt. Skirt is pretty but seems flimsy for the price.

    New pieces not yet online:
Pink pencil skirt that is shown in lookbook with orange striped sweater. Very pretty pink tweed. Fits looser at waist than double serge. Reasonable at $128.

Pink/red roses Bonnie style dress from the lookbook.
BEWARE: it is 100% polyester and it feels like it, I mean stiff and noisy. Awful fabric.

Skinny leather belt: Very pretty in cobalt. Not so skinny. Very soft leather. Fits large, if you wear it at waist size down.

Weatherby rain boots - very cute especially in red. Size up if you are half size.

    ReplyDelete
  22. ajc, so unhappy that JC has caught the polyester bug. I thought I could at least count on JC to stay with the natural fabrics while other retailers are churning out polyster. :(
I had a feeling about the unlined cafe capris being scratchy. Mine are scheduled to arrive today; will probably end up returning for that reason. Unlined wool drives me nuts!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Desert flower- I have the sevigne washed leather heels in the sandalwood nude color and adore them. They run slightly small- I wear a 6.5 in most JC heels but I took my size7 "boot size" and flip flop size. They are quite comfortable for the heel height and the leather is buttery soft. I love how the criss cross and ruching adds something different yet I don't have to mess with ties around the ankle (for the thickness and plushness of the wide leather straps I don't think it would look as elegant anyhow.) I was worried about the zipper being too cheap looking but IRL the leather quality and cut combined are classy such that the small zipper is less F21 and more balenciaga. I'll try to take a pic and post on my blog!

    ReplyDelete
  24. ajc, happy to hear about the leopard print. I have a couple leopard things on hold for today along with a pencil skirt. Let's just hope my items truly are still on hold when I get there after work! Last time, one of the SA sold of my on hold items by mistake. I literally had the items on hold just a few hours too. :(

Hopefully I will have a review of some new fall items tonight! :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lauren phd: I liked the canvas espadrilles and thought they're sexy. I had to return bc the fit was no right. I'm a 7 in most jcrew shoes, but the canvas was too short in the foot bed. Size 8 is a bit lose in the straps and my toes kept sliding forward tho he length was perfect. I thought the similar espadrilles from last yr looked better.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Chic Chauffeur, no, I was struck by the spiteful changing of the promo at the same time that number of items remaining appeared. Sparse update today, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  27. jcbellemarie, thank you for that review! Now I'm more obsessed. I am a 6.5 or 7, depending on the J. Crew shoe. I've found these on ebay in a 7. I am looking forward to seeing a pic on your blog!

  28. OK, I popped into B&M and they had some new arrivals out. The double serge wool pencil skirts are indeed lined and still excellent quality thick wool. I tried on the wool cafe capri and did find it itchy without a lining; the ones I have on my way to me will be returned. Disappointed with the quality of the wool on the schoolboy blazers. Seems noticeably cheaper than past years, like Old Navy quality. They didn't have any hacking jackets out. Tried on the Ethel trench. I am 5'9" and found the length frumpy-looking. Too long to be a 3/4 trench and too short to be a full length trench. I think you will need to be really really tall to pull this off.
They are pushing an orange/black (or really dark navy) combo with the styling--there was an orange and black striped henley in the front of the store that looked dreadful.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Caitlin: Oh great, I want to see where this skirt falls on the camel/beige spectrum.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Cass: Oh that's interesting about the trench, it was frumpy on me at 5 ft 4, I thought it would have worked well for you height.

Desert Flower:Laughing away, I too always become obsessed with things I can't have any more.

  31. For those of you still looking at th LOVEIT promo I wanted to review some of the sale trousers.

Maddie trousers in natural linen. Fit tts. GREAT quality of linen. If you don't like the high waisted look, consider them with your t-shirts untucked, this fit hides the lumps and bumps that may be a problem with thin t-shirts + lowrise pants combo. They are long (34"), so most of us will have to have them hemmed. Ask at your B&M they may do it for free (even sale items), but if not, it should only be around $10, well worth it, they look soooo much better when they are not puddling on the floor.

1035 trouser in superfine cotton. Fit tts, midrise, so still offering good muffin top coverage if you need it. LOVE the fabric, so silky smooth and comfortable. Great trousers and well worth the promo price.
    Bonus: Not final sale.

Cafe Trouser. TTS, a little looser that cafe capris. Mid rise. I like the fit and it is good basic pair of pants, but not as nice like 1035s, so if you are choosing, pay few dollars extra and get the 1035. Not final sale.

Cafe Trouser in Linen. Fit TTS to SD. Slightly scratchy in unlined black, but that should get better with washing. In Lined version, I sized down and I LOVE the fit on my (curve lacking) bottom half.

  32. Visited the b&m here yesterday. They admitted all new arrivals were not out yet (boxes in the back) and would continue to put them out today. What I noticed: The leopard pencil skirt fabric was disappointing, and THAT skirt is not lined. Wanted to love the leopard blouse, but again, the feel of the fabric killed it for me. I did purchase the leopard merino Tippi sweater - adding it to my packing for our Maine trip coming up soon!
Saw the zip shoulder cable sweaters - cute, but not full price cute. Saw the print tanks - but have enough for summer. Overall, not very exciting new items.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Suzy, I thought the same about the leopard skirt. Pretty print but definitely does not seem worthy $120. Maybe $50? The cotton is not even substantial. I did not touch the leopard shirt, just looked from afar. Why didn't you like the fabric?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have seen the Stealth Satchel and review it on my blog.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Help! I want to take care of the LOVEIT promotion before it ends and I need to know if the Keaton Cut Out Oxfords run TTS or small. I usually wear an 81/2, but had to go up to a 9 for other JC high heel oxfords. I'm assuming these are the same? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I tried the new cafe capris yesterday and they are HORRIBLY itchy and I am not even a sensitive skin person (I had no problem last year with the wool crepe and Lolli pants that were both unlined). I agree that the wool of the schoolboy blazer feels cheaper than previous years.
I did love the leopard pencil skirt though. Pics here

  37. --> ajc: In my opinion, the leopard print shirt cotton felt a bit stiff. Maybe I am spoiled by silk and stretchy fabrics, but with a button down shirt, it has to feel good on my skin and this just did not. I'd rather invest in the Equipment brand or similar blouse (which I just did, from the Nordstrom anniversary sale!) Less and less from the crew lately, it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Ema..the leopard print skirt looks great on you. I’m looking forward to trying this on in a bit; however, since you said it shows all the bumps and stuff, I already know this won’t be a skirt for me haha. It is a lot longer than I expected though.

@Suzy..that is one thing I was afraid with the leopard print shirt. This is one thing I have one hold and looking forward to the most, but I was hoping it was the silky fabric I’m used to with some of perfect shirts I own. I hate any stiff fabric…so we will see.

  39. Love my wool cafe capris in the bright blue and black. I had an issue with the 00 in cotton being way too baggy and 00P being a little tight which I didn't want with wool, but these seem to fit well in 00 so I'm going to try not opening the front pocket seams.

The capelette coat, though, is a major no for me. It looks like a cross between my husband's bathrobe and a wannabe pimp fur coat. I'm 5'4" and got an XXS and it was still billowing out everywhere, just not in a good way. To top it all off, I broke out in serious hives all over my arms within minutes of trying on the coat, so I guess they're not kidding about it being heavy duty wool...

  40. hmm. fabric quality seems to be a recurring theme in this rollout so far. It seems like j crew figured out that they need more classics, more color and longer hemlines but they still try to cheap out on quality. How long do they need to realize that they need to up the quality or dramatically lower the price. I mean, we have seen items wit fancy descriptions selling on LOVEIT promo for 20% original price (for various reasons, just proving that you have to get EVERYTHING right).
Sorry JC, in this economy there is a lot of competition (from both ends of price/design spectrum) out there, just waiting to snatch your disappointed customers.

  41. New items:
    - Dearie dress in getaway green. I am between a Medium and Large in J.Crew knit tops. After obtaining garment dimensions, I ordered this in a Large. I was so excited about this dress because I love J.Crew's rayon/spandex knit, and that it is machine washable. I was disappointed when I received it to discover that the getaway green is not a deep, saturated, teal-ish pine color but more of a washed-out pine. The dress fit fine through the shoulders and bust, but the elastic waistline is HUGE. I was actually shocked at how big it was - the elastic did not even touch my torso (and I have a biggish ribcage). The dress looked like a sack. I am afraid to size down to Medium because I doubt the shoulders/bust would fit properly, and I think it would be too short. The concept of this dress is great but execution was not so good.

-Perfect-fit long sleeve cardigan in dark grape. Color was as expected - a beautiful dark grape. The neckline is wider than a crew neck and the length of this cardi is slightly cropped (although not as cropped as the Jenna cardigan). Unfortunately the sleeves are not as long as they are on the Perfect-fit mixed tape cardigan, making them almost too short for my long arms. I don't know why they didn't do bracelet or 3/4 sleeves on this one. Also, J.Crew, this is NOT a "heavier weight" fabric - I can't even count how many iterations of perfect-fit tees I have, and this is one of the thinnest, along the lines of when these perfect fit tees first came out about 4 years ago. Anyway, I may keep this cardi anyway, or else order something else in this lovely purple.

    HTH.

    ReplyDelete
  42. ajc- thanks for the review of pants! I have a pair of lined linen Cafe trousers coming my way, fingers crossed! I ordered my normal size 0 and hope they aren't too big (?????)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Long floral swing skirt: Very fancy and worth the $60 price tag - I would never pay $400 for it. I was worried that it would be too tight at the waist (I ordered a 00 instead of 0 under pressure)and poofy; it ended up being the perfect size, but it is definitely on the poofy side.

Factory charter skirt in surfer tweed: I love the color, feel, and fit of this skirt. The pockets make it super super charming. :]

    ReplyDelete
  44. Can't recall who was asking about Nicola platform heels, but FWIW -- I found the ankle strap to be a little loose and the heel just a hair too high/thin. Much prefer my Collins. Worth spending the extra few $$, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I bought a black blythe blouse, the tweed skirt and the charcoal cable pullover from the last rollout.

The Blythe is pretty, but is still too short to tuck nicely (and I am only 5'4". My usually size 4 pulled right under the arms and gaped a bit. I wear a 32a bra, so gaping is pretty much never an issue with me on any shirt. My impression of the one I purchased and returned earlier in the spring was that it was skimpy and this feels the same.

The tweed skirt is underwhelming. the fabric colors are just odd in person. The metallic is pretty and understated. My usual 6 was both too long and really tight in the hips. It is much more fitted than my 2009 perfect pencils, so if you are hippy size up. Overall, I thought the tweed had no depth and just looks cheap. It is not a $148 skirt IMHO.

The cashmere cable is very pretty. I ordered my usually size small and would need to size down if I were to keep this. The bust is 36" on this size. It is overall pretty boxy on me in this size and the sleeves are too big. I would guess that the tight sleeve issue won't be a problem on this sweater as I have pretty big biceps for my size and these are so loose they won't stay pushed up at all. The charcoal is a bit darker than I expected, but is very thick and plush and the sweater looks as well made as my cashmeres from 2004 or so. I did think the neckline was less scooped than I expected based on the model's pictures. It is a little more open than a crewneck, but not much. Overall, it looks expensive, but I think most girls will need to size down for a more chic fit.

  46. Went to the b&m and tried on the leopard button down blouse. It's really cute and yes, all cotton. I didn't get it though. Not a must-have at FP. I did get the Tippi sweater in the leopard print pattern. I love it! Fit is TTS. i think that one will never make it to sale and so I bought it at FP. I also got the Cavalry skirt and it is really great. I think very flattering and substantial weight. I'd say TTS in that as well. I'm 5'4" and it fell to a good length on me. Might be too short for really tall ladies. Lastly, tried on the leopard skirt and it was definitely a pass for me. I felt like the leopard pattern looked almost washed out or faded. Plus it is unlined. I did think it was flattering, but not worth anywhere near FP IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jruby18, how was the waist fit on the Cavalry skirt? Compared to pencil skirts?

    ReplyDelete
  48. About quality: I just bought my first cashmere hoodie in years (literally, the last one I bought was in 2007) and noticed they are no longer using YKK zippers (noticed this as I was struggling to zip the zipper). I am expecting that it will not last.

Also, for those buying fall cashmere, perhaps something that irks: they are selling last year's cashmere at full price again. I've received two sweaters thus far with '10 labels, both back to full price on the site.

The good news: love the cashmere cable sweater in the blue, which is a heathered yarn with purple and grey tones. Brighter than I expected, but beautiful!

  49. AJC I got a 10 and I wear a 10 in the pencils currently. I'd say similar fit through the waist, maybe a tiny bit more snug than the pencil.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I would like to thank Alexis and all the JCAs that provide all the helpful reviews. I just received the paisley pencil skirt that my PS found in-store for me, after it had sold out online. It's gorgeous and I love it. This skirt came and went online so fast that I would have totally missed it if not for all the wonderful JCAs who gave it glowing reviews. I'm in pencil skirt heaven. Thank you all very much.

  51. I tried on some new items today and here's my $.02. :) I liked the leopard skirt although it seemed a little long on me (5'4") - it's machine washable, 100% cotton, which could be why it's unlined. I'm not one for animal print, so it's not for me, I just tried it on for my ps. I love the tippi sweater, although I sized down. Also love the perfect shirt in indigo floral, so pretty and hope to own it on sale. I also like the featherknit floral tank, which is basically the same floral print as the perfect shirt. I really like the gilded tweed, although my b&m only had the mini. I thought it was a really pretty tweed and would love to have it. The jardin skirt was horrible on me - very frumpy - which was disappointing. I tried on a navy/black lace skirt that I don't see online. I liked it, but it reads as a plain navy skirt from a distance which I didn't like. I wanted the pretty lace to show. LOVE the classic flare jeans, but I refuse to pay $125 for jeans when I can only wear jeans to school once a month. Keeping all of my fingers crossed that I can get these on sale. :D The zip cable sweater is okay, size down (again, not my normal style). The linen stripe popover didn't work for my, even after sizing down. I tried on the toothpick cords just to verify my size for sale purposes. Still like them! :) My favorite of the day was the chambray shirt dress. My ps is holding it for me until tax-free weekend next week. I like that I can wear it now and later with tights or leggings. While belts don't work on me (and believe me, I've tried), I love it with a scarf or long necklace.

  52. Hi, I received the new wool cafe capri in the "yacht blue" today. I had done a preorder on this. I would say it is tts. The waists are always way too big but fit in the hips and legs. I LOVE the COLOR of these pants. They make me want to get on a boat and never come home. But, they are the lightest weight wool I have ever tried on. They are unlined and indeed scratchy. I actually wonder if the lighter colors might be see-through. I honestly think they are unlined bec. the fabric is too thin to hold a lining. I am pretty disappointed to say the least. I had planned on buying these in every color (on sale, of course) but now I don't know that I will even buy one pair. On the positive side, they are the perfect weight for the VERY MILD winters where I live. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hi Louise, I checked your blog and I got the Accordion dress in the same color, the buff. I LOVE it as well. It is so flatering. I did size down but I can see what you mean about the waists hitting at the wrong place depending on your actual frame. At first I wished I had been able to get the charcoal but with my olive skin the buff looks really nice. I LOVED your idea to wear it with a sweater over it and tights! Thanks!

  54. Me again. I am VERY disappointed in the peacock feather color in the Super 120's fabric. It is very green, teal looking and not at all the beautiful blue on my monitor. I had a silk dress in this same color in early 1990.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Tried on a few new items and took home a few things.

Perfect Shirt in Leopard: It is a cute shirt but I had some sizing issues. I had to size up which I never really usually do with perfect shirts to get it to not gap in between buttons. Took this home…but not 100% sold yet on this. I guess I was hoping I would feel instantly sexy or something putting this on…and I didn’t. I need to figure out how to style it or something. It was selling so fast though.

Pencil Skirt in Leopard: I had to size down in this and it was too long (I’m 5’3). I would definitely need a petite size. I would buy it on sale…but for the price I want a more vibrant print and it to be lined. I thought I would hate a leopard print skirt on me…but I’m really liking that look!
Minnie Pant in vibrant flame: Not good on me. The material is just too revealing for me and the color was too bright. I want some red pants…but many need some true red jeans instead.

Leopard Tippi Sweater: So cute! Too hot here, so didn’t get it, but probably the easiest of the leopard print pieces in J.Crew line so far to wear.

Dolman-sleeve tee: Love this tee and took this home. I know, it is a basic t-shirt…but this is great. For once, it wasn’t too sheer on me, plus it is so soft. It looked a lot better on me than the hanger and online.

Tried on a few other things, but I can’t remember now. Also, there were a lot of jardin skirts that came in too. First time I’ve seen these in the store. Sadly, no colored pencil skirts.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Shekster, thanks for the tip on the peacock feather color in the 120s. I'm mostly an online shopper and I've been skunked so many times on colors that are not as pictured. I definitely don't want this dress if it is too teal/green.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I had my PS set aside a couple items for me. First I am sad that none of the beautiful colors came in...so I had to try on the blacks and greys. The wool cafe capris are flattering, but sooo itchy. I was so excited about them, but there is no way I could wear them without scratching myself to death. I would have to get them on super sale (under $40) and have them lined.

Tried on the new wool double surge pencil skirt and it fits almost identical to last years. As soon as I get my rewards card (which were shipped on sat) I will be purchasing the green one. YAY!

I wanted to try on the Hacking jacket, but they did not get any. I think I may just order one with my pencil skirt to try the size. Net-a-Porter says it runs a full size too big, but I was thinking of ordering my usual size 4. Can't decide between the blue and green. Does anyone have any comments about this jacket?

    Hope this helps :)

  58. Took a chance on the Nicolas and got my normal JCrew shoe size and they fit perfectly. Love them especially for $36! I got the weathered green which is a great color to transition in the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I forgot to add some things. I did see the gilded tweed skirt, but only in the mini. Liked it much better in person, but I can’t get much practical use out of a mini (as much as I love them)…and especially at that price. Hope it goes on sale..

Also, the wool pencil skirts are lined and feel so great. Only black and carbon in stock…which is probably what I need…but I wanted to finally branch out! :) I want the purple.

  60. Stene - I found the Hacking Jacket to run TTS for J. Crew. Net-a-Porter says that every J. Crew item runs a size large (which they do, compared to other brands), but I took my usual 2 in blazers and it is perfect. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  61. My J.Crew was absolutely empty when I went in last Saturday. I only scored the <a href="http://jane-squared.blogspot.com/2011/07/shop-it-to-me.html" 3" chino shorts.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Math Teacher - How was the sizing on the chambray shirt dress? Did you size down?

    ReplyDelete
  63. i ordered the new bella high heel loafers in warm taupe. color was close to a nude but platform and heel were a bit much for me to wear to work. also, shoes fit v. small. i ordered an 8.5 (usually an 8 in jcrew) and will need at least a 9.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I got my Dream cardigan in heather dusk. I ordered L and XL. The L is undersized in the body, only 38" pit-to-pit, so I'm keeping the XL. Overall it's a very nice cardigan, and I love the heather dusk color, it can work for 3 seasons. Dislikes: the typical too-large sleeves, and the small buttons which I'm going to swap out but can't go much larger because of the buttonhole size. I'd like to order more but the other colors don't work for me.

  65. TXgirl14 -- I'm with you, I want the COLOURful pencil skirt this year, either the purple or red. My fingers are crossed that they'll have stock of all the colours when the Toronto store opens as that's one of my for-sure buys.

  66. maryeb, I sized down from my normal button-up size and it was perfect - no pulling at the buttons, which I often have with button-up tops. HTH

  67. Hi Hexicon, I was definitely taken aback by this peacock color, not at all what I was expecting. I really want that pretty blue on my screen! LOL

  68. Hi KG, thanks for your review of the Biella Loafer heels. I had a feeling they would be too high for work. Why can't they make the heel shorter, especially with a shoe like this that just screams "work appropriate"?

  69. I know others have talked about it, but wanted to give my review on the Indira Ikat dress. The sizing avaiaiblity was so hit and miss for a few days, so when I saw it come up in my size I immediately snatched it. Well, I think it looks nothing like it does online in person. With where the waist should be it is so super short, and I am only 5'5", it should not be that short! Just not flattering at all. It is being returned. I also got the Rowboat dress. It seems shortish as well, but for the cut and style it works, keeping it. Althought a very basic cut, it actually has some shape, so it does not feel like I am wearing a bag, which jersey dresses sometimes feel. Perfect for a very hot Tucson summer!

  70. I received the first of my 40% +free shipping items today- the Fisherman Cardigan. I love the style and color and the online SA did a great job of helping me choose the right size (no store I visited had this sweater so I never got a chance to try it on). The one thing that surprised me was the texture/appearance of the yarn. I had assumed it would look and feel pretty much like my Shrunken Fisherman Sweater, but it has a rougher texture and almost a metalic shine to the yarn. I don't mind it, but it was unexpected so I thought I'd share this for anyone else who didn't get a chance to see it before ordering.

  71. I also tried on the new denim shirt dress. I'm going to hopefully get it on a sale. It's cute, but very short and would need a belt and leggings. A lot of extra styling required IMO. As for sizing I had to size up because it felt tight under the arms, although it didn't gap in the buttons across the chest.

  72. My Velvet Schoolboy blazer (in delicious Poppy) is on its way, I'll post a review when it gets here! My fingers are crossed that it's the orangey colour on screen, and not too red IRL.

  73. Hi everyone, just dropped by several B&M stores today to take pictures of the new arrivals, which just came in today. They're on my Feeling J. Crewzy blog, for which I'll put the link back up on my user profile.

  74. Tried on a couple of new items today instore.

Sequin henley shell-They only had the Charcoal intore. The fit was great-TTS. I usually have to size down in the tank, but this one was good. I have enough Sequin Tanks to last a lifetime, but this one is a bit different. The sequins are bit muted and very day wearable.

Tuxedo shell-They only had a few light colors to try on but instantly fell for the pattern and comfort. TTS, but the arm hole is a bit big. I don't wear tanks without cardi, but I would definitely not suggest it with those that do.

The cotton material is super comfortable and soft. I will definitely be picking this one up in one of the darker colors when I get a chance.

Cavalry skirt-I don't own one skirt, but for some reason I'm gravitating towards this one. I saw it store, and looks just as lovely, but couldn't try it on since they only had the skinny girl sizes.

Boy shirt in Quincy tartan- Madewell has a very similar Tartan instores. I prefer Madewell's version.

Stretch perfect shirt in navy check Love this pattern. Wish it came in something softer-thinner.

Leopard Tippi sweater-Din't care for this in person. I wish I would have been able to have gotten the light blue Leopard Cardi when it was available.

  75. RUTHIE SHIRTDRESS...I loved this dress BUT sadly it is unlined and 10% wool which means it is itchy. I really wish they'd make it in 100% cotton. So close to perfect...

  76. @TXGirl I had the same reaction to the Minnie pant in vibrant flame. It's much too revealing! And kind of a bummer that they're made from a cotton blend but still dry clean only. Also more shoddily sewn (with multiple loose threads) than the last time I tried on a pair of twill Minnie pants. Bummer.

  77. Received the calvary skirt, leopard pencil and leopard tippi sweater. The calvary skirt was my favorite-a nice heavy, almost suede-like twill. I'm 5'4 and a size 4 in pencil skirts. I took a 6P in this one. As for the leopard skirt, others have reviewed this and I agree that it is a slightly faded print. For me, that is ok. The fabric is a stretchy cotton. It is long, the petite still came below the knee on me. I ordered a 4P and a 6P and the 6P is a just a shade big. Because it is stretchy, I'll probably keep the 4. The Tippi sweater is probably tts to a little big. I took the xs, but a small would be fine. I'm on the fence about this - something about the pattern (it is different than the skirt) bugs me. I will wait until I see the button down in the same print, which it sounds like most of the stores have.

  78. Received the Index Dress in decadent red and the Heather Lace Shell (from the LOVEIT promo) and both are winners.

The Index Dress is fantastic, 100% wool and fully lined. I find the fit to be TTS to a bit big (similar to the Attache Dress if anyone has tried that). My usual 0 is good, 00 would have fit but been a bit scandalous for work. I would say stick to your true size but if you are between sizes go with the smaller one. The length is great as well, hitting an inch or so above my knee (I'm 5'9). The fabric is a bit stretchy and has a great drape, and seems like it won't wrinkle easily at all.

The Heather Lace Shell is lovely and was a great deal for ~$60. It fits a bit - I can occasionally go down to a 00 in camis/shells and the 0 is perfect for me, definitely couldn't go down. It is more fitted through the body than any of the other lace/silk shells I have tried.

  79. Oops, typo! Should say: the heather lace shell fits a bit small for a cami/shell.

  80. Can anyone comment on the fit of the Cashmere zip-front hoodie?

I'm mainly concerned with whether or not the arm circumference is tight or a normal fit.

    Thanks!

  82. Caitlin, congratulations on getting the heather lace shell with the 40% promo. I have it and love it!

I received the factory tortoise cuff and it's a winner. Definitively worth what I paid (I got it during the 40% off promo) but also its regular price IMO. The color is a little bit darker than pictured (it is more brownish than yellowish) but there is still a lot of contrast between the two colors and a nice "tortoise effect". Also, I have a small wrist and it fits me perfectly (which means that it could be too small for big-boned ladies). The only small thing that could be bothering is that they placed a jcrew metal round placket (like the ones at the ends of the necklaces) right in the center of the cuff (on the inside) and because the tortoise is semi-transparent it shows through. But I think I can survive seeing it.

  83. Beatrice blouse pics & review in this post. Now $49.99 online.

Ema - Good to hear about the cuff. If you didn't know, I followed you again. ;)

  84. Gigi,

I'm responding to your post on the Betrice, which looked great on you by the way. I ordered this blouse in Olive during the 40% sale, but haven't received it yet. I've been eyeing it for awhile, but seing a IRL pic from one blogger really convinced me. Thanks

I think Blogger is currently having issues. Others have complained about hinky thinks happening with posts.

  85. Gigi, yes, I know ;-).
Re the Blogger issues, I for one cannot comment from my cell (which I do of the times) even on this blog. Hope that the issue is fixed asap.

  86. Received my happy brown box today!

Velvet Schoolboy blazer in Poppy: My first reaction was disappointment over the colour. It looks like a great orange on-screen, but IRL it strikes me as a bright but faded hot pink. Sad face. I tried it on, and the velvet is lovely and soft. It feels like nice quality to me, and isn't as stiff as I feared it might be. The fit feels oddly generous -- I ordered my usual blazer size -- the arms are looser than I've found JC pieces to be lately, and the body felt roomy through the chest, like it was a half size bigger than previous Schoolboys. I don't think I could go down a full size, but if you're between sizes I would suggest going lower.

Strangely, the colour is a bit schizophrenic, because in another room, it looks more orange than pink. At FP, I don't think I'll keep it, even if it starts to read orange in certain light. The fit just isn't flattering enough. Too bad.

Cashmere Ribbed Sweater (item 47922): This is so nice! Very soft, nice thickness. Definitely boxy. I sized down after reading the product description, because I wanted it to be a bit more "shrunken". I'm glad I did, because it fits more like a slouchy sweatshirt. It hits right at my hip bone, so a bit shorter than, say, the cashmere crewneck sweater. I love it. The Heather Gray is one of my favorite colours, it'll go with so many things. Because it's kind of cropped, it'll be cute with a longer shirt peeking out the bottom. I *think* it's the sweater shown with the dark purple wide-leg trousers from the fall look-book? Anyway, it's a keeper.

  88. I just posted pics of the Viridian Green pencil skirt, Decadent Red schoolboy and Quincy Tartan Boy Shirt HERE!

I received most of my LOVEIT orders and am really happy with everything. Two pieces I'll mention: The Leslie Lace Shell in Casablanca Blue is stunning -- highly recommend. TTS, nicely lined. Also the Islet Paisley shirt is very pretty, with soft oranges and some teals, making it a nice and interesting match with the Viridian Green pencil skirt. It's also a nice match with the autumn blaze stripe snap tee.

  89. Reviews on the things I got from the LOVEIT:
-Wyatt buckle high heels: seems TTS. i'm usually an 8 or 8.5 in dress shoes. got the 8.5 & it seemed a teeny bit too long, but since i have wide feet, i think the 8 would have been too tight. the leather is super soft and i'm surprised at how comfy this is for the height! these are now my FAVORITE heels :D

-Silvana sandals: pretty horrible. the cuff part around the ankles is VERY stiff and cuts into my feet as i walk. walked around my room in pain. i'm shocked at the design! if this was a softer leather, it wouldn't be an issue. since it's final sale, i got desperate and trimmed the cuff as well as the inside strap! if anyone else has this issue, i can email you pictures. it looks decent, as the leather doesn't unravel or anything. since it's on your feet, i don't think anyone will notice. better than not being able to wear them, and i do not have large ankles or calves, so i blame the shoe.

-Cammy pants: very tight around the knees and calves. i'm usually a size 0 or 2 in jcrew pants, and ordered the 2. while the waist was fine, the knees and calf area are too tight. if i sit down, the pant seams strain, and i do not feel comfortable at all.

-Buckle stretch belt: received a defective one :P the buckle was sewn in backwards, so i can't thread the belt through the buckle/holes properly. customer service was extremely helpful regarding an exchange.

My love for the Wyatt heels overshadow my disappointment on the rest of my order.

  90. Oh, discovered another "fix" for the Silvana sandals. Since it's "vachetta" leather (aka untreated), i decided to roll it around back & forth while I watched tv. it softens up pretty nicely! i don't regret trimming it, since i still need the extra space. but any JCAs having issues with comfort should try rolling the leather around by hand.

  91. I received the factory tortoise cuff and agree with Ema that it's very nice. I also have small wrists and often cuffs are too large. This fits great, it's a nice tortoise with a lot of color variation. My little gold J. Crew medallion is obscured by a dark spot, so unlike Ema, I can't see it through the bracelet.

I also got the Milano gladiator heels which were 40% off the sale price. These shoes are so stylish and so comfortable. I got the english saddle color which is a fabulous neutral. I am a 6.5 or 7 in J. Crew shoes and in this style I was a 6.5.

And thanks to Fabulous Florida Mommy who spotted a popback, I am awaiting the arrival of the Sevigne washed leather heels in sandalwood!!

  92. Received the Wintress Puffer and I love it!

For reference, I am 5'2", 105 pounds. I initially ordered the P-XXS and it fit snuggly and the sleeves were too short. It came about an inch above my wrist. And I don't even have long arms. I returned that and ordered the XXS regular and it fits much better! Not as snug and the sleeves are about 3 inches longer. However, the lining inside the sleeve that has the thumbhole feels just a bit short. I can still fit my thumbs in them and be comfortable, but I wonder how the thumbholes will hold up in the long run. Not too concerned it about as I will be wearing gloves for the most part. The length is great, right at my knees and I don't look like michelin man. It actually creates a long lean silhouette. I love it! Hope this review helps someone thinking about the wintress puffer.
