Regular: $495.00

In the past few months, I have been questioning some of J.Crew's leather goods (refer to the "Questionable Item of the Week: Leather Tee {you read it right!}" and "Love It or Leave It: Pleated Leather Trouser" posts). Now J.Crew is offering these leather shorts J.Crew describes this latest arrival as the following:
We love bringing a touch of glamour to day wear—and this exquisite short does exactly that. Beautifully styled from buttery soft lambskin and finished with a gathered waist designed to flatter. So addictively soft and surprisingly light, we're wearing ours year-round. Leather. Original fit—our highest rise. Sits at waist. Zip fly. Slant pockets. 3" inseam with cuffs.Part of J.Crew Collection. Import. Dry clean.
My thoughts on these shorts is that I am not a fan, not at all. It's not so much the high waist, as it is the pleats and the leather material. Leather shorts (even lightweight) do not work during the hot days of Summer. And I don't see how I would work them in during Spring and Fall. Then those pleats... they don't look structured (just droopy).

However, it got me thinking... is this the latest Summer style? Are pleated leather shorts and trousers, with short sleeve leather tees the next big trend in fashion?

What are your thoughts on the Lightweight Leather Shorts? Do you "love it" or would you "leave it"? Have you seen them at a store? Do you like this leather style for Summer? If so, please share with us your review. :)

  1. we're wearing ours year round

    pwah hah...that's funny

It's an 80s cut. I would look for leather shorts like these in a thrift shop. The leather would be heavier, more like lead than butter, but they'd be 95% cheaper.

  2. I just saw these on the website the other day, and thought to myself that J Crew was just doing some more crazy.

I LOVE J Crew, I wish all my clothes came from there, but is it just me or do they keep coming out with some questionable (and very, very expensive) items?

I wish J Crew would go back to being colorful and fabulous the way it was a few seasons ago.

  3. I'm not a fan of the length, but as someone who lives in Honolulu where it's in the 80s everyday and already owns a pair of black pleated leather shorts- it is possible to wear leather shorts year round! I don't even have air conditioning and they are perfectly comfortable.

  4. The hills are alive with the sound of music.... I'm seeing the shorts styled with embroidered suspenders and green hat with little feather.

  5. I don't mind them, but do think they're overpriced.

  6. WFF, yes! LEDERHOSEN! I hear polka music.

I would like the shorts better if they didn't have pleats and cuffs. I think. Maybe not. But they are tons better than those awful shiny cropped trousers!

  7. ITA with Gigi - IMO, that cut is very AC Slater.

  8. I would not even consider these for a second. Once it finally gets warm enough to wear shorts here I wouldn't go with a leather pair. I can't wear even a short leather jacket when it's above 65F, it's just too hot.

  9. I would buy it if I enjoyed sitting on the leather seat of a hot car in the summer.

  10. No way. They're leather, somehow they manage to look like mom jeans, they're $500 - any one of those three is enough reason for me.

    I'm with Becks.

  12. These comments are cracking me up, especially "AC Slater". :)

What the ...... they have a Dickies work shirt in the Collection area for $265. You can go to the Dickies web site and buy stuff for $50 or less. Is Dickies cool now? I've never been to their web site before, I need to check it out more thoroughly, I see some chambray shirts there.

  13. I've come up with the next great JCrew/Dickies collabo: the High Visibility ANSI Class E Pull-On Pant but in some cool color like dried rose. Utili-hip. (You're welcome, J Crew!)

  18. I think possibly I could see these as a fall item, with tights and some kind of funky oxford heels.

  21. Hmmm. I wonder if I wore those where I live in the summer in the 115 degree heat if I could drop a few pounds? I'd probably just melt into a pile of leathery goo. Darn !
