"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I just read the blurb about the Petal Skirt in Floral. It says "Our newest summer love in our absolutely-of-the-moment mid-length. (We're all about the longer lengths this season.)". What? Above the knee is 'longer length'? Or just longer than 15 inches?? That skirt looks like it's 18 inches, although the blurb doesn't even give the exact skirt length. I want longer skirts!

  2. I still have a huge issue with the dream fabric. I wore a cardigan this morning and experienced massive pilling all along where my sleeve touched my car. :(

  3. dinster, the funny description then says "we want it in every colour." They are only offering one. :)

  4. Overhaul the website already. And in the meantime, cut the prices on that tired holiday merch. It's late April, already.

  5. Agreed on clearing out the holiday stuff. Slash the prices on some of those fuzzy, sequined mini skirt while you're at it, JC!

  6. dinster -

I ordered the petal skirt during this last promo - we'll see if it's longer than a mini!

  7. I had found the most perfect earrings during this last weekend sale. They were posted on Saturday and I was in the middle of checking out (past the password portion) and they SOLD OUT. I am so heartbroken and annoyed (don't judge, I know this is very materialistic), but they went so perfectly with my wedding dress. I hope they appear again at some point!

  8. I've found the sweaters this season are so flimsy and thin. I understand "featherweight" for warmer temps, but the darn things are stretched out of shape and have tiny holes in them after one wear. Really JC?

  9. @Dayna: That SUCKS! maybe a personal shopper could help you track them down?

  10. wrindulLolita: When stuff pills, take it back. I have, a few times. No ques asked, store credit.

J Crew does a great job raving about the quality of their merchandise, but they also do just as good of a job backing up those words when stuff just doesn't live up to the hype.

  11. FYI on the petal skirt (both the floral and solid) - I chatted with one of the online reps, and the length varies by size, but an 8 is 20 3/4 inches long, and a 10 is 21 inches. HTH

  12. Dayna-

What was the name/ style # of the earrings?

  13. My newish icon trench: the two buttons on the chest (that don't even get unbuttoned since they are just for looks) fell off yesterday. Ugh. I have better things to do with my time.

  14. I bought the tulip ruffle cami on sale in the store on Saturday, wore it on Saturday night and when I took it off realized one of the seams was already coming apart. It was no more than 10 hours after I bought it! So frustrating!

Also, I was doing some shopping on the Nordstrom website the other day and it is so nice to be able to see if things are in stock in a certain store. I don't expect every retailer to be that advanced, but it's insane you can order something "in stock" on the J. Crew website only to be told several days later it's sold out.

  15. OT: this is the opposite of a vent. I received a free shipping code as a cardholder perk. It's a unique (?) code good through the end of the month. Nice to see them following through on the promises to cardholders. I don't have anything in my bag right now but I'm sure I'll make a purchase before the end of the month!

  16. OT: I recently purchased a skirt from ebay--the description claims that it is a "J. Crew" skirt, but it is actually from the outlet. Do I have any recourse? I am awaiting a response from the seller. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Rynetta, absolutely. Sellers are supposed to disclose that. It happened to me a few times and I always got refunded after I return the item. Some sellers don't know the difference, but really, most do.

  18. I feel like the quality of J.Crew clothes has been SO POOR lately.

It seems like almost everything I buy lately develops small holes after a wear or two.

I love JC, but am getting really discouraged with their quality. I know you can return defective items, but what's the point, if they all are?

    Grr....

  19. I've only worn my Perfect Shirt in Maxi Check (in pink) a few times and already the fabric has torn where the arm is stitched to the shoulder. The fabric is thin so that the stitching has caused the threads to be pulled over time. The shirt was even slightly too big for me already so it wasn't even a fit issue except for the fact that it was cheaply made. Learned my lesson--will abstain from J.Crew for a while till their quality improves.

  20. Has anyone else received a shipping confirmation e-mail that has the tracking number listed as n/a?

When the package didn't arrive on the day it should have (based on an embarrassingly long track record with JC shipping times), I called and got the CS rep to agree that the package was AWOL and she helped me locate the now sold-out item in a store.

However, today when I called to inquire about being credited for the AWOL shipment, I was told that the CS rep could assure me (without the benefit of a tracking number, mind you) that the package was in a truck and was on its way as we spoke. She said that they have been having trouble with UPS assigning tracking numbers as of late, and that I should call back in a few days if I haven't received it. Note that I have received two packages already (gulp) that shipped after this one.

Has anyone else had this experience, or does it sound like I'm being fed a bunch of hooey?

  21. Final sale- I purchased the camp pocket cardigan as a final sale purchase a few weeks ago. Undecided about it...it is still on the sale page, but NOT final sale anymore. Does any one know if it can be returned NOW????

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Amy: Is the shipment international? I'm in Canada and I always get the email saying my package has been shipped with "N/A" for tracking numbers. And then usually a day or two later I'll get a follow up email saying that they're sorry the original email didn't have the tracking number and then they give the number to me in the second email (sorry, I feel like that may have been confusing!).

  23. OT, comments on some new arrivals in B&M here

  24. Amy, that happened to me at Christmas, with a gift going to another address, and I got just one story after another: UPS was slow, the package had been sent by Post Office Mail, tracking #'s were not issued during holiday rushes, was I really really sure (?), etc. etc. I guess my phone voice conveys "gullible." While I was composing a letter to Dear Leader, the package arrived. With the right merch inside. Still annoyed, but saved the stinging prose for another time.

  25. My pkg arrived looking beat all to hell. Thought someone tried to open and steal something but it was all there.

  26. Dayna - You might post the earrings you're looking for in the weekly looking to find thread if you haven't alreay.

  27. teeny84: I immediately talked to an online rep and they were completely out of stock

jbird: they are called “Twisted flower button earrings”

gigiofca: Thank you! This is my first time on this blog so I greatly appreciate your help.

  28. I'm in awe - and not in a good way - at the ability of clothing manufacturers to make garments out of fabric that is so incredibly thin. I thought the featherweight cotton bling-button cardis from last summer were thin but the forever cotton cardis this spring are even thinner. I bought the forever in several colors and returned all but one that was marked down and 30% off the last time around. Even so it likely won't last the season because it is just so unbelievably thin and I even though am very careful with delicate clothes there is sure to be a hole if I try to wash it and maybe even before it gets to that point. I think these are worth $19.99 tops but probably wouldn't take another one home if they were giving them away.

  29. Hi xoxo - it's scary how thin and flimsy some of the fabric is. Most of the sheer cardigans can't even hold a button! I haven't seen that on the men's side(perhaps "whisper-thin" isn't a great selling point for them, ha!).

I started going through my spring/summer clothes from storage and threw out 4 Jackies that have just had it. They look terrible - faded and pilling, and probably not worn more than 2-3 times apiece. I didn't pay FP for them, but geez... what a waste of crappy fabric and cheap buttons on such a classic shape. Bring back the 2006Jackie! I've worn my navy one probably a hundred times and it still looks great.

  30. Boooo, I got my box today and they sent me the wrong shoes, and the ones I ordered are all sold out now. Sadness. :(

  31. silver_lining, I KWYM. I really debated before buying the Jackie cardigan in Bavarian blue and although I did eventually buy it in store with the 20% off, I passed on ordering the matching shell for the first time in years. You are right that they just do not last and it does seem wasteful.

  32. Hi and FYI: The Daybreak cardigan is NOT white at all....it is clearly ivory and very very thin.
Shopwithm, I am sorry about your shoes. That has happened to me twice now. I was lucky enough to get one pair on a very late popback. The other pair was not meant to be mine apparently. :(

  33. I is very frustrating that when the site updates with new items like today that others disappear for a few days at a time. This has been a repeat pattern now for close to two years that I have noticed--I know others have comment on this too like FFM.Would gladly buy something I have wanted with the free shipping no minimum code but it has disappeared:( (I know it is not sold out most likely)

  34. I'm sure you've all discussed this before ... calf sizes on the boots. What the h*ll?? I have 15" calves. I have the Britten extended calf boots, they fit perfectly. I ordered the Miller mid-heel extended calves expecting them to fit too, I ordered black one day, then brown the next. The blacks arrived and the calf is only 14". This is extended calf?? And why so different than the Brittens? Then the browns arrived, same size. I sent them both back, a waste of shipping and time on both sides, and I'm sore because I really like the boots a lot and would love to keep them. J Crew should just put the calf measurement on the web site, I never would have bought the Millers if I'd known they were only 14". And if 14" was the extended, what were the regulars? 12"?

  35. Genny, I agree. It forces us to check the web site multiple times per day. I was into it a couple of weeks ago but now I'm getting burned out. :)

  36. Thanks teeny and WFF--my package did finally arrive!

  37. silver_lining, I stopped buying Jackies for exactly the reason you mention. My last ones I bought last year, mushroom and some medium blue color, they were limp and already looked fuzzed up and on the verge of pilling even though they appeared to be factory fresh. I wore each one time and felt like they looked like I'd slept in them! They were then relegated to at-home wear and I eventually threw them out. My Jackies from prior years are more substantial and still look great even after repeated wearings. The fibers/knit are more dense and the cardi holds its shape, as a stretch cardi should.

  38. @Dayna: they're back online! I really hope you get them!

  39. teeny84: I JUST bought them. I've been checking first thing every morning. Thank you so much for your help!

  40. @Dayna: I'm so happy for you! Yaaay!
