Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SPRING sale, or to see some new SPRING arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. So I just bought the Brompton Hobo and I LOVE IT. The only problem is that after a week or so the handles have been noticeably squeaky. I know that it has something to do with the leather and metal touching - but it's irritating. Any ideas?

  2. Good evening!

  3. I went yesterday to J Crew collection store in SOBE -- plenty of beautiful items. They had this amazing red parsley bikini (not yet online). I am thinking of going back today to try some things on :)

  4. Off topic: I got a vintage cotton V-neck last weekend from the B&M in a neon yellow colour and couldn't figure out what the colour code 'LPU' stood for, but now I see it's 'lemon pulp'. Just in case anyone thinks of getting this colour from the site wanting a 'normal' yellow beware it's quite neon (but that's what I loved about it!) I know there is a post on Gigi's blog about colour codes but it'd be cool if we could collaborate/update a list based on people's real life observations...

  5. I'm going to a store today at lunch...to return or exchange a pair of the Classic Ballet flats I ordered. I had posted that those flats ran large - at least the old version did - I have a black pair in a size 7 when I normally take 7 1/2. So...I ordered a pair in the Tawney Sand in a 7...they are too small! So...I'm headed to the store today!

  6. No "Spring Fever" card for me yet. If I don't get a card, I won't be visiting or purchasing from J Crew until after April 11. A J Crew ban will be great for my wallet. Closet is bursting at the seams as it is. Would love to hear what everyone else is purchasing, though. Living vicariously through my fellow JCAs will soften the blow of being ignored yet again by my favorite retailer.

  7. Going into Manhattan this weekend and wanted to know from the NYC JCA's where the best B&M (in your opinion) is located. TIA!!

  8. Shopalot - ditto! No card - no shop - happy wallet :)

  9. Does anyone know if the J Crew outlet is Sawgrass mall in FL is any good? Live a bit far from there and rather save myself a trip if it is not worth going...Thank you.

  10. I visited the b&m, saw the new arrivals... not too wowed by anything. I do not like the Cecelia dress at all... it is so long that it looks dowdy, IMO. The paisley pencil skirt is the one thing that is lovely but I won't buy it because of the color. Orange just doesn't seem too practical for me!

I might go to the crewlet too but I think I just need to wait for all the cute new arrivals to go on super sale.

  11. @CrewGurl - what are you looking for? Each of the Manhattan B&Ms have their own specialties. Personally my favorite is the store at 45th & Madison. Super-friendly SAs, nice selection of both work and casual clothing and a decent sale section. There are two other J.Crews nearby: one in the Time Warner Center @ Columbus Circle and one at Rockefeller Plaza.

I work very close to the Soho J.Crew and it's nice. They carry some collection items in that store. Multi-level with crewcuts downstairs, and a dedicated shoe/jewelry room. But I find the selection to be lacking there. I live near the South St Seaport B&M, and they have a small but excellent sale selection because I think it's like the secret downtown store. And they just redid the 5th Ave store in Flatiron, so it's only got 1 floor out of 3 available to shop on. It's very pretty. I also like to go to the Collection Store at 79th & Madison every once in awhile. Recently I've found the staff there to be more friendly than they were in the past.

That might have been no help at all...

  12. Pumpkin, the last few times I've been to Sawgrass it has had a good selection of shorts and perfect shirts. The store isn't huge, but is usually running promotions that are better than the online prices. There is usually an additional percentage off clearance as well (although it was very picked over the last time I went). If you haven't been to Sawgrass it's worth it for the other stores too (Bloomingdale's, Saks, Neiman and Nordstrom all in one place!). But it gets very crowded so I always try to go when it opens and have a plan because the mall can be overwhelmingly large.

If you go, please report back! I am interested in several items online and the in-store prices always seem to be so much better. I am considering a trip also and I'll report back with what I find!

  13. Has anyone seen the Windowpane Trenchlet in store yet? Curious on the fit and fabric quality.

  14. This is very OT, but does anyone have a recommendation for a good portable steamer? I hate mine! The cord is too short, it leaks water everywhere, and doesn't work very well.

Also, does anyone's blog or maybe even an old post here have information about ways to care for J. Crew clothing items? I seem to struggle keeping some of mine in good shape, and I hate to pay dry cleaning costs with every wear!
(But I also hate when my husband "accidentally" washes and dries a dry clean only JC shell!)

Thanks ahead of time for your help!

    Allie

  15. Hi Allie! I swear by Dryel to care for my J.Crew dry clean only clothes (which, let's be honest, make up at least 80% of my wardrobe!). You just put up to 4 things in the bag (i've put more than that and it still worked), throw the Dryel sheet in, and put it in the dryer for 30 min on medium. It freshens everything, removes odors, wrinkles, and puts everything back into shape. I use it on cashmere all the time and it works wonders. Also works well on silk tops. It is usually about $10 at the grocery store for a 6 pack of refill sheets. I saw it at Big Lots the other day for $6 which is a steal. They had both the starter kit which contains the bag and stain remover, and the refill cloths. I hope that helps!

  16. Allie - Haven't found a good portable steamer yet. However, I recommend staying away from the ones they sell at the mall kiosks. It's teeny and they will impress you w/the fact that it runs with tap water & table salt. It lasted about 3 times before it got rusty. Don't buy. Agree w/JCJD about Dryel.

As far as your laundry, consider getting a separate basket for your dry clean only items. Or put them in one of those lingerie zip bags and drop it w/your other laundry. Then tell DH not to touch the bag. You won't have to worry about him not bothering to read tags :-)

  17. OT: J.Crew changed the name of the Linea Shift Dress to the Urbanite Shift Dress.

  18. Along with the name change, they raised the retro orange color back to $118 from $95 promo price.

  19. Sassysister: I have used J. Crew's THE LAUNDRESS sweater wash - have washed my cashmere sweaters in a mesh bag in my front load washer on the delicate setting, rolled in a towel, and then lie it flat to dry (on another towel.) I believe there are videos on THE LAUNDRESS's website. Also, probably 2 years ago,
Slastena of About All and Nothing At All blog had info on all of this on her blog. Hope this helps some!

  21. can anyone help me find a jackie in nightfall blue, size large or extra large? If you know where one is, can you email me at ebrock2007@gmail.com?

I'm dying for one, and can't find it anywhere :(

  22. Does anyone know if the navy blue eyelet pencil skirts are in store yet or if they will be an online-only item?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Stopped in today....

Came home - Madras long sleeve top in great colors this season (orange/navy..)

Tried on/Stayed - New linen pants in a blue color (also had a funky green color) - Cut was just off, they seemed to have a wide leg but a short rise. No good for me. Linen skirt suit in grey - Nice but overpriced.

Again... lots of tees, tanks, scarfs, belts, flops, cargos.

Sale section was packed. I did pick up some stuff for my guys. BTW - the 20% card was honored if you spent the required amount.

  24. @Roxy

Thanks for the info and suggestions. I didn't realize there were so many locations. I am looking for a good sale section so I will take what you said into consideration. Thanks again!! =)

  25. CrewGurl, the TimeWarnerCenter and the Rockefeller Center stores are generally thinly stocked, IMHO, and the staff is too easily overwhelmed. I vote for Madison Avenue ❤ if that's convenient for you. Collection Store is TINY but almost always worth a look, and the Bridal and Collection Store (formerly known as the JCrew Wedding Store) at Madison Ave & East 66th Street) might be worth a look. When they were just the wedding store, it was clearly appointment-only. More recently, they've let it be known that the ground floor is a walk-in Collection Store and the floor under that is the by-appointment bridal area. However, the extra from the 1940's spy movie ☂ still guards the door, so I haven't bothered to go in.

  26. Dropped in yesterday and got the red/orange paisley skirt and sailor stripe boy shirt (I had seen this combo in store and loved it, so I was happy to get the card). The skirt seems to be selling out, which is unusual for my b&m. I am, however, a little undecided on the shirt, since it is a little thicker than I may want for summer. The skirt is also great with my contrast stitch shirt though. Not too much in the sale section.

  27. Had fun this morning trying on items. :) Loved and bought the new paisley pencil skirt! Wish I had more money so I could have bought everything I liked. I bought the Alexie cotton sweater in blue - love! Also love the chambray dorrie skirt, although I sized up twice to gain length and to be able to wear it lower on my waist. Love the new sequin tank - hope I can get this on promo or sale. Love the new raglan tees, but size down. Love the katie colorblock cami (they didn't have the solid ones), although I'd have to shorten the straps a little. Tried on a new stripe sunburst tank and it's cute, but I'd only pick it up on super sale. The eyelet trim shirt and eyelet tunic are both on sale already - and they're featured in the new April catalog. Liked the tunic, but sized down twice. Saw the madras and it's cute, but not the right colors for me. Love the chambray blazer, but the striped blazers in the same size are too small for me through the chest. The stripe lace-up tee was too big in my normal size and too small when I sized down, but I do love the look they put together with it in the catalog. It's also a thicker knit. The new bahio hobos are cute. The forever cardigan and scout capris are both 59.50. The cammy utility pant is on sale for either 49.99 or 59.99. Lots of sale items, including the downtown skinny jeans in the light blue wash for 49.99.

  28. I went into JCrew this weekend to get just enough to use my 20% of coupon and ended up spending way to much. I got the Boy Shirt in Strawberry. It is awesome in person. I got the scout pants in gingham and the new cafe capri which is way better fitting than the old design. I also bought one of those raglan tees. They have awesome colors and the gingham shorts. No idea what I am going to do with all this gingham. I need to step away from JCrew on the internet and store for a little while. The wallet needs a break!

  29. Went into JCrew yesterday with my DH and am going back alone to get his birthday present today. I saw the Vivette dress which I have been very curious about online. I am going to try it on today when I go back although I have absolutely no reason to buy it. Anyone else tried it??

  30. Wellfedfred: you made me laugh =) Thanks for the suggestions. I actually was in NYC yesterday morning and when we started to walk around and do some shopping it was so cold and breezy that we didn't get to any of the JCrew locations. We are going back next Saturday however so I will remember your words of advice!

  31. I'm actually relieved that I'm not so thrilled with the Spring offerings. I've spent a lot on clothes in the past couple of months, not just J Crew stuff but other brands. I feel bad for those of you who are into flats, there are so many cute ones out there now! I don't know how you choose among them. That reminds me, I've always felt that being bigger helps me spend less money, if I had a cute little size 8 or lower body I'd buy way more clothes than I do now. :)
