Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

Preface: A big "thanks!" to Amy who suggested a weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post about current experiences with other non-J.Crew retailers. I think it is a brilliant idea and will try it out for a few weeks. Hopefully this will help out our fellow JCAs! :)

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Eddie Bauer has some great new Spring offerings and they are now online.

If you sign up for Eddie Bauer Friends, you'll get seasonal preview catalogues with 20% off and free shipping. I placed an order in October using a preview catalogue for Spring clothing. And I just received a Summer preview catalogue - the items I order from that will arrive in March.

My favorite new piece from this Spring order is a French Terry Motorcycle Jacket - it is a hoody with an asymetrical front zipper as well as zippers on the sides and sleeves. Comes in regularas well as petite and tall sizes.

For you peacoat fans, there is a new 3/4 sleeve peacoat cardigan that looks pretty cool - I did not order it but I may have to!

  2. Gap - BOGO, buy one item get one free, for credit card holders begins on 1/13. I recvd a postcard in the mail. I'm not sure if you need the postcard as it has a generic code like GAPBOGO (unconfirmed) on the back. I'm not sure if there will be an online promo offering. I missed the same BOGO they had over the holiday season, so I don't now if they had a similar promo online.

  3. Thanks for the reminder Gigi! I have a rewards card, so I'll see if they'll combine in store (sometimes they will, sometimes they won't).

  4. Loft has a pencil skirt similar to the watercolor prints of the last few years. Downside is it's 100% poly
Can't post the link atm. It's called "abstract floral
    pencil skirt" online.
Save20 gets you $20 off $75. And theres free shipping $125 and 40% off sale

  5. Target is offering 20% off Purchases of $75 or More on Select Apparel, Shoes and Accessories. The offer is online only and the discount is applied automatically at checkout. There's free shipping on $50+ on most of it, too.

  6. Anyone looking for nice spring clothes? Talbots had a lot out at my local store this weekend. It was very refreshing to see a fully stocked store!

I also found out that they plan 3 years in advance for their clothing designs. Right now they are working on 2013. Their redesign has been in the works for 3+ years now...

Their sale items were an additional 40% off but final sale. Don't mind as long as I can see in person first.

  8. Kate Spade online is having an additional percentage off their sale merchandise. (At least, they were last night. Not sure how long the additional % will last.)

  9. Anthro is offering free shipping on $150 minimum spend. Did they learn something from going thru JC's books & records?

Also, a new (new to me anyway) feature on Anthro's web site. You can post user photos as well as user reviews! Love this!

  10. Bad news for Canucks on the West Coast, Gap is discontinuing their Sprize program (price protection program where your purchases are tracked and if an item is marked down within 2 weeks, or 10 days, can't remember, of your purchase, your account is credited and you get an email about your savings). The program will end at the end of this month, but your savings don't expire immediately.

On a good note, Gap has now started to offer ankle (petite) lengths in some of their jeans and pants online. Thank goodness. I routinely spend an extra $10-20 to hem my pants/jeans. BR is still in my bad books for not stocking petites online. HTH someone.

  11. I'm loving my LEC skinny cords. They're on clearance for $19.99, but LEC had 20% off clearance a few days ago so they were only $15.99. And no "final sale" either.

  12. Closet Crisis, not to be too dense but how is the Gap program ending relative to bad new for Canadians on the west coast?

  13. I know I'm crazy but ever since I saw the photo of Marissa and Jenna with the Lulu Frost designer posted here last week, I am obsessed with finding skinny leather pants/leggings like Marissa's at a reasonable (or semi-reasonable) price. And of course I found a perfect pair, linked here, but they're sold out in my size! Has anyone seen a similar item out there somewhere? I will be forever grateful for any help you can give me!

Dying to pair them with my JC cashmere cowlneck and some great pumps or the fabulous Gucci ankle boots I recently picked up on holiday in Madrid :)

  14. @xoxo, the Sprize Program was only running in the Greater Vancouver area stores. You sign up, they give you a card, and everytime you buy something (full price or marked down), it's noted on your account, and when the item is marked down (1st, 2nd, etc) your account is credited and you get an email saying so. Use to be you'd have to run to the store to check if something's been marked down and ask for a price adjustment, but this program does it automatically for you. I'd picked up a few great basics in the last year, without having to worry about chasing price adjustments or waiting for a sale and then running out of the size and colour I want.

There was no explanation as to why the program is being discontinued. Everyone I talk to back home loves it. I loved it so much that I don't even shop here in AB where I'm saving the sales tax, and do my shopping on the weekends when I fly home.

Maybe, they'll roll the program out to the rest of the country at a later date? A girl can hope.
