J.Crew Updates Sale (& free shipping on $100+}

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Caroline (in this post), as well as ShopWithM & Dinster (in this post), who shared the following updates.

J.Crew updated their Final Sale (click here to shop online) this morning. There were lots of (1) additional markdowns on certain pieces, (2) popbacks from seasons pasts, & (3) a few items returned to original prices.

J.Crew also reduced the minimum for free shipping with promo code MUSTHAVE. {wahoo!} Now the code is offering to take 30% off all final sale items (no min) and free shipping (on $100+, instead of $150+). This offer expires this Sunday, January 16, 2011.

By the time I got to the sale section, items looked a bit picked over. I should have gotten up earlier! ;)

Reminder: "Thanks!" to many of you, including Diana, who let us know that J.Crew's brick and mortar (B&M) stores are still offering an additional 40% off all sale items.

Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get? Does your local B&M have "final sale" as well?

  1. I got up waaaaay too early for a west coaster. That's all I'm saying. ;)

  2. got the Sunnie in popback. Very glad to have a lower minimum for free shipping

  3. Placed an order for a dream cardigan at 4am EST and saw that there was a restock by 7am in which I wanted to add more items, so I "spoke" with a chat specialist online who told me to call CS. Basically CS was able to waive the shipping for both orders since they totaled up to $100, yay!

  4. This is terrible. Terrible. NYC is shut down for snow, and there is nothing to do but shop and eat. Terrible.

  5. It seems a lot of you commented that you didn't like the Galaxy Purse, but it popback, and I bought it. o.o Still so expensive. Should go back to work more overtime to make up for it T___T ............

  6. The one item I wanted just popped back but I'm trying my best not to bite... anyone know when Winter Rewards cards are being sent out? I figure that's the only way I can rationalize another purchase :)

  7. Fred! I didn't know you were there -- had I known, I'd have insisted we meet for coffee!

Got back from NY last night, and oh what a time I had criss-crossing town visiting all the J Crews! :) My stadium-cloth coat kept me toasty warm even in the frigid temps, and it was so nice to wear a nice warm coat and look good, not like a Michelin man, lol.

I scored 2 fantastic finds at the Madison Ave. store. A boutonniere blazer (missing its boutonniere, but I'm going to call and see if they will put in an accessory request for me) and a black double-serge pencil skirt. The jacket ended up being just $59 (manager took an additional 10% off the sale price [on top of 40% off] due to the missing embellishment!) and the skirt was $47.

The only other thing I got was a tissue turtelneck at the Prince st. store for like $6. Must note that the color I got is still $24.99 on the web, blurgh!

All the sale sections in the stores reflected the online stock pretty much. Madison Ave. had by far the best selection, including accessories (and one of the biggest selections, followed by Prince Street and Columbus Circle -- but the CC store was in shameful condition. A bunch of ugly garment racks rolled out into a line on the floor and stuff falling off the hangers right and left and people just trampling the merchandise!

I thought to myself, well, if I worked for corporate and came in and saw this, I'd be livid.

All the stores had ballet flats left in a few styles, but at $129.99 - 40% the price still wasn't low enough for me. :)

All in all, it was great fun making the rounds (and stopping at other places too, of course!).

Just glad i was able to get home before the snow hit up there. It was looking dicey for a while there!

  8. Also, while on the subject of sale, can anyone tell me anything about the fit of the Linley chino as compared to some of the other skinny pant silhouettes? Is it most like the fit of the Toothpick or the Matchstick, or is it neither?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Elaine, I tried these pants and have pics on my blog. IMO they fit a bit looser than those you mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Piccione-I quite like the Galaxy purse! And hey, it's sold out so a lot of people must like it :) Enjoy!

    ReplyDelete
  11. That's good news to me, Rose! Which is your blog? Thanks. :)

  12. Elaine, I'm so glad you had a great JC experience. Was in Florida Keys where the sun was lovely (felt I had earned it) but there is no JC for miles. ITA re CC store, it's always a mess, and the staff always seems, well, the kinder gentler me would say overwhelmed. Happy New Year!

Meanwhile, Daily Candy New York is circulating a video featuring The Laundress--in person--demonstrating how to de-pill a cashmere sweater. Another great activity for snow days...

  13. Hesitation kills. Lost the Langford 7H two-toned oxfords because I foolishly decided to answer the phone at work instead of placing my order. Now they're gone!

    Devastating.

  14. I think it's nice they lowered the minimum to $100 but I still didn't place an order.

    ReplyDelete
  17. does anyone have anything to say about the (formerly) expensive rubber Wellington boots?

    ReplyDelete
  18. VERY NICE to see a lower minimum but I still won't buy final sale. Have not even looked at the website since it started. Waiting it out and saving my $$$ :)Glad others are finding good deals......

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Amy! The Lemlem is too large through the body so I plan on having it altered to fit. I'm really pleased that I got it for the sale price, and I'm really looking forward to wearing it in a few months. :)

  20. Oh, I'm going to hell in a handbasket. How could I resist the velvet schoolboy blazer at $34.99?? So i got the olive moss and the cobblestone, plus the crystal helix necklace and a cami in seaweed green ... DONE. Done shopping until spring except for the JCA exchange. Keep me honest, girls!

    ReplyDelete
  21. That's great, FFM! It looks perfect for Florida :)

Elaine, ITA. I can't help myself with the deals. It was the same way in Fall 2008.

After getting the eyelash tweed and POW jackets earlier in the week and saying I AM DONE!, I find myself tempted by the tweed morceau. Has anyone bought this or tried it on? I would want to wear it inside, as it would be a joke of an outside coat where I live. TIA for any insight.

  22. Elaine, hope there's a coffee bar in hell, because I'm on my way there too...

  23. Elaine and wellfedfred... can I join in on the coffee? ;)

  24. Trying not to look but I'm tempted !!

  25. Why in the heck did the camp socks sell out? Are they really that popular?
I was looking forward to wearing them with some boots. :(

    ReplyDelete
  26. After swooning over it for months, I got the Sosie sequin tank in dusty sage--marked down from $495 to $179 plus another 30% off that price. I'm hoping and praying really hard I guessed right with size 6 since I normally wear that in most J. Crew tops, but still---always worry about the cut. I think this will be a great piece I can wear year round w/ a lot of outfits. I also got some cute little mittens in cypress for $12 and change.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm having a TERRIBLE day at work, so yes, I bit. I needed a little pick-me-up! Just got some twill minnies that have been in my cart forever, a gingham perfect shirt, v-neck t-shirt, and belt. All basics, but things that help me finish off some outfits with other pieces in my wardrobe.

Now if only they could arrive today for instant gratification! In the meantime, a BIG glass of wine will have to do tonight. (Maybe I need to use a glass hurricane vase like they do on Cougartown.) :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Elaine: I'm also tempted to get the velvet schoolboy in olive moss but I've never seen it. It's hard to figure out the exact color on my screen...

I like how JC has lowered the minimum shipping amount, but I'm still not shopping final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  29. jcrewphd, FWIW, when the olive moss jacket first appeared, I got very excited because I thought it might be GREEN VELVET. Sanity prevailed, and I called CS, got a lovely rep who went and looked and said "Frankly I would call it brown, although it might be greenish in some lights. If you're looking for green velvet, this isn't it."

Sooo… trying desperately to stay away from Sale section, came across item 27894, the hooded cotton slicker, where the Copywriter From Space talks about rainy days, but doesn't mention water-proofing or even water-resistant. Good, I needed a turnoff.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I bit as well, oddly enough most items were NOT Final Sale and the 30% was valid.

Did anyone notice the Painter Cardigans are now $35 and with the 30% its a good deal and not Final Sale. I grabbed the Olive Moss and Smoky Charcoal.

I bit on the Britton short boots (Brown FS) and the Miller motorcycle short boots (Black not FS).

    Thats it I am done!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think I'm going to break down and pick up the trouper pants - I've bene wanting some skinny cargos for months now, so that's my excuse. And they're on promo so they're not final sale. Yay! Of course to get free shipping, I might add some fs items (boo) - also seriously considering the velvet schoolboy. Saw the cobblestone IRL and it's gorgeous, but not sure about sizing... Jackets can be tricky on me, but for $35 it might be worth the gamble...

wff - thanks for the multiple laughs today - "Copywriter From Space" - love it! Has anyone mentioned lately how great y'all are? :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Elaine - Olive moss velvet schoolboy on Apples & Pencil Skirts in this post. She's a schoolteacher and I get such a kick out of her posts.

    ReplyDelete
  33. WFF: Thanks for the color info. I'm still undecided...
LOL at the "Copywriter from space!"

Gigi: thanks for the link. Now I forgot if I've tried a size 2 or a 4 before... Hate final sale...

    ReplyDelete
  34. ah well then, we're all going to hell in a handbasket -- at least we'll have each other to talk to and we'll all look fabulous! :)

i went for the olive moss because i missed out on the olive-colored velvet Eden. never have been able to catch it in my size at a price i can stomach. and i just LOVE that cobblestone color -- i don't know why, but i have a weird attraction to it!

thank you for that blog link, Gigi -- and right now I am REALLY glad I ordered the jackets in 8 and not 6, as i'm not sure i knew the fit was a wee bit shrunken.

now i'm going to try to be good for a while, as finding the boutonniere blazer and pencil skirt was very unexpected, so i hadn't planned on spending that $$ while i was away. oopsie.

also, OT, but wanted to mention because i am so impressed ... i bought some Born boots right before my trip so i'd have some weather-appropriate footwear that i could walk for hours in.

i got the Sosie boots in the brown color and they are FANTASTIC. i walked an average of 8 hours a day in them for 3 days and did not get one blister. i won't say my feet didn't hurt, because they did, but it had nothing to do with the boots.

this never happens. NEVER. i usually have a tough time with new shoes/boots. i mean, i wore Crocs sandals (don't judge!) when we went to Disney and they tore up my feet so bad i'm still recovering! blisters out the yingyang, i was stunned.

i'm ruined now. i don't think i will ever buy another brand of boots again! they don't seem to do a lot of dressy footwear, but the old lady in me is seeking comfort these days, and the more, errrr, fancy styles of Clark's and Born are calling my name.

think i can convince them to make me a pointy-toed, embellishment-free flat? :)

  35. There's a pair of lolli pants that popped back in a size 4, full price.

  36. In fairness, the concept of the Copywriter from Space was originated by LaBelleHelene, whose witty, incisive and charming commentary I still miss. I hope all is well with you and yours, LaBelle, and that you will return!

  37. FYI- There are some bags on sale but not in the sale section-the Armory Puffer is now $100 (from $148) and the Exhibitor Mega tote is now $300 (from $375) also noticed that the Navy reve tee went from $42 2 days ago back to Full price...

  38. Let me know by which fire we're setting up our table in Hell. I'll bring Piroulines for our coffee. I can smuggle them in in my Coquette hobo, provided J.Crew sends the right item. Just ordered it. They had me at coquette.

@Elaine: Fellow Born boots fan here. Have several pair. Wore a pair today, in fact, as it's been snowing all day.

  39. Elaine,
I tried on the Linley in my B&M over the weekend. I found that the stomach area was a bit big for the rest of the pant. Waist a tad big, but that was doable. Just a LOT of extra fabric below waist. The SA and I decided perhaps those were just cut wrong? Maybe that's why they were basically giving them away :)

  40. i finally bit the bullet & ordered the pyramid stud ballet flats at full price last night (i was worried about them selling out) but in true j.crew fashion, they were marked down today. i called CS ready for a fight & was pleasantly surprised when i got the PA + extra 30% off (b/c i had used the promo for free shipping last night & it's the same promo) AND *fingers crossed* i'm pretty sure they didn't add shipping back on to my order even though the PA put it less than $100.

and, in the end, my size was sold out this morning so i'm glad i didn't delay.

  41. stopped by my local B&M in Bethesda MD ... even though I keep telling myself I am DONE shopping this sale, in particular, and winter clothes, in general, I can't seem to stop myself from stopping in when I'm at the mall...

Anyway, some good finds: timber tweed pencil skirt (runs tts) was $54 after promotion (also had a 00 and a size 12 available), wool bell skirt was $18 after promotion (but I don't think there were any more), last call wash black toothpick (item no 33765, $108 reg, $88 online) was $18 after promotion and they had several sizes available, and stretch wool two button jacket was an amazing $48 after discount (not sure if there were any others left).

I also picked up the pararuffle shirt (item no 36639, still reg price at $98 online), which was on sale in store for $59.99, $36 after promotion. This is a very cute top; ruffles are not nearly as overwhelming as on the ruffle shirt of last year. I take a 2 or 4 (or occasionally 0) in J.Crew shirts -- this one runs slightly large so I took a 2. Lots available, but not in the sale section -- if you head to your B&M check throughout the store for random sale items...

    ReplyDelete
  42. barbabelle - LOL! I love Piroulines :)!! I picked up some chinos for the bf, pajama pants, and a pencil skirt with a giftcard. also used the madewell code this week to reorder a size down in the Rail Straight jeans.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I bit and finally ordered a Colletta coat in dark plum. It was marked down and I got 30% off even though it didn't appear to be final sale. I feel like I could have gotten it for a better price somehow though...I did see it in stores once or twice but not in my size?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Karen, that's what I always figure -- if something is hanging around for MONTHS unsold, there's usually a fit problem. Of course, this could be remedied by having a feedback/ratings system in place like oh, say, Gap.com or Sephora.com, whereby we could pinpoint the problems with the fit! Grrr... I passed on them. If I get a chance, maybe I'll try them on in-store some time.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Elaine, I am wearing the Linleys now and I really like them. They fit a bit like jodhpurs but not as tight -- but fitting enough so they are flattering. I also like that they are more high-waisted than other J Crew pants; less possibility for the dreaded muffin-top look. The cotton is nice and thick. Seriously, no complaints -- and being short (5'2) with thick legs, I can be picky with trousers.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Speaking of things hanging around, has anyone tried the metallic gauze pencil skirt? A nice price now, and still available in all sizes, which seems odd?

    ReplyDelete
  47. A very respectable update this morning! There were like, 60 items of jewelery alone. And not just the ol' crap!

I scored another ruffle placket sweater - love!! - for like, 20 bucks, and a flashy cocktail ring - also only $20. That's it though, I was pretty restrained, and hence, I PAID for shipping. Boooo.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I was a bit boring, but I bought a very good basic - the favorite fit trousers in stretch wool (in charcoal heather).

    ReplyDelete
  49. @ Kris, I tried the metallic gauze skirt and found it short (20 inches as opposed to 23" or even 21") and boxy and not as flattering as other Crew pencil skirts.

    ReplyDelete
  50. dinster, thanks, very helpful since it is now final sale. Some of the pencil skirts can be boxy so I think I'll pass.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Kris, the metallic gauze pencil skirt is one of the very few that I didn't buy this year, on recommendation from my PS. She said it was not as fitted as others and she even tried it on for me and said it probably would not meet my expectations.

I also didn't buy the bubbles pencil skirt but that is mainly because I didn't like the look - too flashy for my office.

Still managing to hold off final sale but I swear if either of my two popbacks is restocked in my size I won't be able to resist.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Elaine--just the info I am looking for! Did you take your normal size in the snow boots? Do they have any sort of support? Do you just slide your foot in with a heavy sock and go?

    thanks

  53. If anyone comes across or has a pair they want to get rid of I'm interested in finding a pair of:

    Merino Un-sweatpant

    size XS (possibly a S)

    ken_k80120@yahoo.com

    Thanks

  54. Re: Linley Chinos

I found them to fit sort of like matchsticks, but in a horribly unflattering way. I love matchsticks. The Linleys fit all weird through the hips/waist. Like too loose and awful looking. Maybe the black color would look better but the khaki color was SO unflattering. Ick. Cannot recommend. They had a whole rack in all sizes for $19.99 at the B&M; that should have been my first clue!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. As of right now, I'm not planning on ordering even though I'd really like the trouper pants. I am making a trip to my b&m this weekend to pick up the bubble skirt. My ps called me today to let me know it finally went on sale (in stores) and he pulled my sizes. Maybe I'll call tomorrow and see if the trouper pants are on sale there, too.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Found the lolli pants at my B&M tonight. They had a 2 (which I snagged!) and a size 10. They were marked $79.99 before the 40% discount! It's Boca Raton, in case anyone is looking!

  57. I am having a bad JCrew week and I should take it as a sign that I should stay away from fs.

First, an item in an order that I placed last Saturday got cancelled... today. It was the top of a bikini (the bottom shipped) so now I am stuck with the bottom (of course the top popped back this morning and I could have reordered had I known).

Second, the bronzed leopard cardigan that I also ordered last week paying shipping because I wanted it so badly has a very strong parfume smell (I even recognized the parfume, it's Gio by Giorgio Armani) and it's pilling all over the sleeves. Basically the thing has been worn, even if the tag is intact and not even twisted. I don't mind the perfume that much (hey, I used to wear it ten years ago) but the pilling plus the fact that it fits at least one size smaller than the one that I tried two weeks ago in store (same size) are a dealbreaker. So I am up for some serious talk with CS.

Bottom line: won't order from fs.

  59. Math teacher- which bubble skirt is on sale? Is it the newer one online? Do you know the price? Tia!

    ReplyDelete
  60. xoxo, thanks. I'll pass on this one at final sale thanks to the jca's. There is a reason that one has been lingering in the sale section, it seems.

  61. jcrewlove, it's the golden bubble pencil skirt - it's been gone online for quite a while. Sorry - I should have used its full name.

  62. hey gem twin --

the Born boots are leather dress boots, definitely not made for snow trekking but appropriate for cold weather. since they come up quite high on the calf, they kept my legs warm!

(for real snow i wear Lands' End boots, snow trekkers, since we don't usually get much snow here!)

the boots are my true size; i wanted a 9 for a little room to move but they were out of stock. so i wear the 8.5s with a thin sock and i'm good to go. the insole is padded and there's support inside too.

getting them on is a bit of a challenge. the zipper stops short of the top edge of the boot. not my favorite thing about them, but i deal. HTHs!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Final Sale hit or miss, and I missed!! The Dream V-neck sweater
is so much roomier than I thought. Should have ordered my regular size or smaller. And the color for Cashmere shawl popover - light blade is just so much greener than I thought. I ordered Small, but I think I can do with an x-Small. It is pretty long and roomie.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ema, I saw a bunch of the bronzed leopard cardigan in a NJ store(bridgewater) a couple weeks ago. This is probably not very helpful, but it won't hurt to call. They had mostly smalls.
