  1. tempted to get the Jackie in dark rosewood but I already have so many cardigans... I also did get the Arrow jacket in black the last 30% off sale items and very happy with it. But even with the 20% off the other colors are above my price range.

  2. I don't think that I'll be partaking, mainly because I think that the prices will eventually go lower. There are a lot of nice colors this season, though!

    ReplyDelete
  3. What's with no free shipping - didn't these types of deals use to offer that in conjunction??

    ReplyDelete
  4. Holding out for the Arrow sweater in caramel...won't be biting on this promo, but one day when it dips below $100, it WILL be mine!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Since I am in the middle of cataloguing my entire wardrobe and realize I have 4 huge Rubbermaid bins full of sweaters, I will not be biting on this promo :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. If there was free shipping attached I would bite; otherwise, no thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  7. You can use the code YQC83N that's on the JCA homepage to get Free Shipping on orders of $100+, which includes the sweaters.

  8. Desert Flower,

Yes, I have too many sweater as well. I have vowed not to buy a single one this winter. I live in a warmer climate and did not wear 1/2 my sweaters last year! What I do need is a couple of new polar fleece jackets. My mom sent me a gorgeous winter white one lined with fur last week. LOVE. I had wanted to order one of J.Crew sherpa/fleece jackets but did not like the dull colors this year and the one my mom sent looks really nice/more "dressy" :)

Most of JCrew's thin merion sweaters are fine and enjoy wearing them but their other wool itches me too much! I don't think I would like the Arrow even.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I've been eyeing that Alexie sweater in 2 different colors, so I might be taking advantage of this. Besides, they sent me a 20% code (finally) that expires this week. Darn it, why did they give me a reason to use it!

    ReplyDelete
  10. GRRRRR, they would not give me a price adjustment on the Cashmere v-neck cardi I ordered on Friday. Hopefully it'll fit me well and be worth the FP $168 I paid.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm glad they're at least running *A* promo, but this one isn't for me. I do not need any more sweaters!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Has anyone had a problem with the Arrow sweater pilling? I got mine during the 30% off sale (with an additional 25% using the special card I got in the mail) and after wearing it just two times, there is major pilage on the arms and waist area. Very disappointing. So glad I got it for cheaper.

    ReplyDelete
  13. OT: does anyone have the wool crepe Harriet blazer? How does it fit? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  14. Same here...I will patiently wait for the prices to drop lower than 20% off FP.

@Susan: I haven't worn my Arrow sweater since it's not cool enough here, but now I'm worried that it may pill like you've described.

    ReplyDelete
  15. No, thanks. Just picked up 2 Magaschoni cashmere v-neck sweaters on Ruelala this morning - $79 each! Not even final sale.

It would be interesting to compare that to J.Crew's cashmere quality -my guess is that the sweaters won't come with holes and pilling.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Totally off the topic, but did anyone go to either of J. Crew's Warehouse sales over the weekend? I'm curious what they were like . . .

    ReplyDelete
  17. susan, oh no, this is horrible about your Arrow sweater. i thought merino should not pill like cashmere. I haven't worn mine yet, does anybody have the same problem?
I am thinking of returning mine if this is a case :(

    ReplyDelete
  18. My black open merino sweater from this summer has pilled horribly. I have only worn it three times and it looks years old. The other colors I have still look fine. I only paid about $20 for the black and am still annoyed. If I had spent full retail, I would be furious.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It is annoying, but all wool pills. But recent JCrew wool seems to pill faster and more than older styles. Even my factory sweaters from 05-06 look better than some more recent regular store purchases.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I saw a rack of the bronzed twig merino boyfriend sweaters at the B&M and they were covered with pills. My navy one looks fine so far, but I'll be keeping an eye on it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not all wool pills. I purchased some merino wool cardigans from Ann Taylor and Banana Republic last fall in several colors and have worn each of them at least 10-12 times and they look new. My Brooks Brothers merino never pills.

My two Celocias from last fall still look great as does my light grey spring version. The black and aqua ones from the spring are horrible and have barely been worn.

JC's merino has performed better than their cashmere for me, but still badly in several cases.

  22. OT: 3 hours only from 12-3 "your time"

40% off all full priced accessories, shoes, scarves, capes, belts, purses, etc at Talbots AND free ship
    Code: 900796150

I just bought 4 items that I had been desperately wanting. So excited.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My older JC merino does not pill very much. Last year I had to return my maya cardigan after it looked like garbage from 2 wears; also, I have worn my remini from this season twice and have noticed a lot of pilling. Since I only paid about ~$35 for this one I will deal with it but not happy.

I am forcing myself not to buy anymore sweaters this year (except for the cashmere zip henley I like and will get if it drops on clearance to the ~$80 range) because I just pulled my sweaters out of winter storage and I have an obscene amount with no place to put them!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ali you should just buy another one with the free ship code and return the FP one!

    ReplyDelete
  25. OT Does anyone know if Loft is still having their Shoe/Boot in store promo?

    thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lauren, the 50% promo ended. But full-price styles are 30% (think it might end today) and if you bought a Loft Cares card, that's another 20% off. Just posted this on FFM, but I REALLY REALLY wish I had bought the Loft Cares card last week when I did take advantage of the 50% boots...

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Kitsmommy et al: I totally agree—not all wool Pills.

I own a Bloomingdales cashmere sweater from years ago that is softer, thicker than any JC collection cashmere piece can hope to be.

As for the quality of JCs recent 100 percent Merino wool, I don't know what sheep they get it from. I have a JC merino cardigan from FALL 2004 that has absolutely no pills. So there is definitely something different with the mills and quality of the wool being sourced. I blame it on the bottom line.

Won't be taking advantage of this promo for sweaters that are so fragile and don't hold up more than a few times of wear. Unless its under $30!

Put down the crewlade for a minute and pay a visit to other retailers (Bloomies, Nordstorms etc) to check out their wool offerings. You'll be amazed at the softness and quality.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @lbi: I had to laugh at "what sheep they get it from."

I agree about putting down the crewlade. I need to broaden my retail spectrum. ;-)

Speaking about quality, any of you ladies who own the Perfect Pencil skirts from this season, are they Made in China or Sri Lanka? I just received my Bronzed Ochre and it's the latter. I just didn't know whether JC does this for back ordered styles? Besides that the waist band was folded over and not perfect. I wonder if it will flatten out when I iron it. If not I'll have to get it exchanged. Nowadays it's rare for JC to get it perfect in any orders.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Susan,

Sorry to hear about your sweater pilling. Wow. I am staying away from the Arrow. Thanks for the post. I noticed acrylic in some of J.Crew's sweaters this year. That will pill for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Mommydearest thanks you so much for the ATL info. I have not been in the B&M of late and didn't know of the Loft cares card. I am lusting for the Percy boots and the only retail store that has the brown is downtown Boston. Will call and see what I can work with them and will purchase the card if possible.

Thanks! Did you get boots there?

  32. I agree that not all wool pills.

I bought a wrap sweater from Benetton in Europe last winter that I have worn to death. I just took it out to wear again this winter and has absolutely no pilling on it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Lauren, you are so welcome! :)

I got the same boots! They are fabulous! :) Slastena has them on her blog, too. The ankle/lower leg was a little baggy on my scrawny legs, but for the price they are impossible to beat. The leather is nicely distressed. Not too much, but just right so they don't look all worn out as soon as you wear them. Have you tried them on? I think they run a little big. I'm usually a 8.5 or 9 and I think I could have fit an 8 but went with a 8.5 just to have room for socks. I hope you find them! And just fyi, 90% of the Loft Cares card is donated to breast cancer research. So it's fun to do good and get a little discount at the same time :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I thought that most wool pills, but I don't think that's the case. I have a See by Chloé wool sweater that's a couple years old and looks as good as the day I bought it. Also have a Catherine Malandrino capelike sweater that looks great after multiple wears.
Maybe it's the grade of wool they're using?
BTW, I have the J.Crew Rimini sweater and I've worn it several times without pilling.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Totally off topic, but I'm wondering why when I use the same account here it gives me two different handles (I am also Susan). I'm new to this whole blog posting thing.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Susan

I bought the arrow sweater during the same promotion and have been wearing it fairly steadily -- probably 6 to 8 times. No pilling at all for me. And I haven't seen any signs of wear either. Maybe you got a bum one from a weird sheep. You should definitely try to exchange it for another one.

Sorry about your sweater :( and hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I meant that all *types* of wool are *subject* to pilling. I have wool pieces from a variety of retailers and most have had some degree of pilling. But like others, I have a few that haven't shown signs of wear at all.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @ mommydearest Yes I agree its great to see the $$ go to Breast Cancer research :)

Did you get the Brown or Black? And yes, I did see them on Slatena's blg this am!!

I have the Arrow and no piling for me yet, I will have to watch it. I did find that the Dream Zip Henley got all fuzzy on the arms after just one wear.

    ReplyDelete
  39. OT: If anyone wanted the J.Crew Tuxedo-Stripe Scout chinos but missed out, Old Navy has a similar pair now: Click Here

    ReplyDelete
  40. also OT but speaking of tuxedo stripe pants, net-a-porter.com has some really fun new JC tuxedo pants in a really bright plaid.Unfortunately they are polyester so I would want to see IRL. Also a beautiful cardigan and a couple other new pieces not seen yet on JC site.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Like Summer and Desert Flower, I already have *way* too many sweaters. I sorted through my ridiculously large cashmere collection last night and took out a shopping bag full that aren't flattering on me (too short, wrong shape, unflattering neckline). I'm not wearing them and I need the valuable closet real estate for things I actually like and wear. I'll either donate them to charity or give them to friends who will actually wear them.

    ReplyDelete
  42. jcrewphd, I have this fall's Perfect Pencil skirt in vintage wisteria and the nordic blue. Neither were backordered and both are made in Sri Lanka. That's unfortunate about the waistband on your skirt. Hopefully it's just a crease from packing and comes out easily.

Regarding the Arrow sweater pilling, which colors are pilling and which are not? I have worn mine in black a couple of times already, although for short periods, and have not noticed any pilling. Hope that holds true with additional wear, I really like it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. @ xoxo - I have the heather elm color in the Arrow sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I said I'd stop buying those jackie sweaters because I have too many already :) but I went ahead and ordered them in the henna and the dark pewter. I was waiting for them to go on sale so was happy to see this promotion. Reds are hard for me so I'm hoping the Henna is the right shade for me.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I bought my first J Crew cashmere sweater back in 1998. That sweater lasted 10 years with NO pilling. That was the quality of JC in the good old days. Nowadays, this is not true...

As for other wool or wool-blend sweaters, there is really no reason that they have to pill either, even if there is acrylic in it. I also have some sweaters from Benetton. They were not as pricey as the JC ones and are wool-blend. They hold up great and do not pill.

This is a pity because I do prefer the style and colors of JC sweaters to most other brands in my price range. I bought no less than 6 sweaters this fall from JC so far. My favorites are the Alpaca Long Cardigan, the Lumiere Cardigan and the Dream Zip Henley. They all feel very soft and luxurious, and they look great. But then again, I have only worn each about 2 or 3 times. I can only hope that no pilling happens!

    ReplyDelete
  46. If they were offering this in stores and I could get to my b&m while they were offering it, I would get the jackie in henna. It's a lovely dark red - no burgandy at all in it. I don't want to pay shipping, so none for me this time.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Desert Flower - I thought I was the only one with sweaters in multiple bins. I have taken to layering them as much as I can to get full use of them.

As far as this promo, I might get a Jackie in a color or two. They seem to sell out of my size/color by the time they hit sale.

  49. Speaking of Jackies, I looked at the new colors this weekend, and henna is a lot less red than it looks on my PC. I'd say that henna is a dark rust. Now, the nightfall blue is a dark blue/green that is popular right now. It's a real pretty color.

By the way, rustic barn is also not nearly as red as it looks on my computer. It's a red with orange/brown undertones. I prefer clear reds or reds with blue undertones.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with others on the pilling factor. I have cashmere, merino and cotton in solid and blends from Donna Karan, Burberry, Brooks Brothers, Benetton and even an old BR merino cardi and none of them pill. My older J.Crew sweaters don't pill either but last year I bought a blue cashmere sweater that pilled so bad my boobs looked like a couple of muppets by the end of the day. How does this happen when no one is touching my boobs in the office?!! Must be the satin lining of my coat on the walk in/home. Regardless, it is ridiculous. The newer Jackies pill easily too, and they start to look bad after a couple of delicate hand washings. I'm sure the cotton and nylon used is lower quality. I'm really leery of J.Crew sweaters now.

I bought the Cambridge Cable Shawl Cardigan and it shed all over the place just trying it on and having it hang next to other garments so I returned it. Such beautiful colors but what awful yarn. Due to the pilling issues I won't be taking advantage of this promo.

What I did find to be good over the past year were the cotton-cashmere grandpa sweaters, which had minimal pilling that was easily picked off by hand and the wool/mohair/angora marled sweaters from last winter that I've worn at ton and have not pilled *at all*. Unfortunately there aren't similar offerings available this year or I'd probably be drawn in. Unless the holiday rollout has some amazing sweaters, I think I'm good for the season.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The nightfall blue looks so different between items on my monitor. I like the color of the double-serge pencil skirt but the jackie sweater looks a lot lighter. Anyone know which is closer to IRL on the jackie? Is it the lighter or the darker of the colors online?

    ReplyDelete
  52. dickfiddy - the nightfall blue on my monitor looks really blue. I was surprised to see that as a Jackie, it's really a dark blue/green. Pretty, though.

xoxo - LOL! Also, thanks for the Cambridge review. I was wondering how this year's crop is. I guess I won't be buying any. Oh well, money saved.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hello fellow jcas,

I got a $25 "holiday reward" card from Jc.
I sent Alexis an iPhone picture.
Hope someone send a better picture.
    It's only for cardholders. Finally!
I've never got any red cards before.
Now JC is listening I guess?

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have the double serge skirt in nightfall blue. The color irl is exactly as himmiefan described--dark blue plus a hint of deep forest green. It's not the same color as what's showing online. I noticed the color difference for some of the dream material sweaters, too.

  55. Rose: I have the Wool Crepe Harriet blazer and I love it. I have it in a size 4 because I wanted it to be fitted...not sure what you're planning on wearing it with but it seems more "slinky" than say the tweed schoolboy blazer and you may only be wearing blouses or thinner sweaters underneath...in other words, it seems less of a casual, layering type blazer. I love it though, it's cut very nicely and fits me perfectly. I wear it with jeans a lot and it lends that fall menswear look but is also very sophisticated and sexy. Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks, patsy! What size are you usually in blazers/sweaters? I plan to wear it with either short sleeves or very thin fabric long-sleeved blouses.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Cass:
I definitely would do that if I were sure the Cashmere v-neck would fit me!! I ordered it in the hopes I can finally end my sweater search (I've literally ordered 8 or so this fall from Crew/Ann Taylor/Loft/etc. trying to find good ones that fit my 5' frame). The measurements CS gave me make it seem like it'll fit, but the Cashmere v-neck henley was enormously slouchy on me even in XXS, so I'm not sure. I'll just order another when it goes on FS if it turns out to work well for me.

    Himmiefan:
Definitely concur about the rustic barn color not being a true red. I was hoping for a more vibrant shade, but decided to keep the cardigan I ordered because no true reds seem to be available right now. (Cerise seems more orange-y on my monitors, at least.)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Rose: I would say I am a 4 in most blazers. Small (sometimes medium though) in sweaters. For instance, when I tried on the Rimini cardigan I needed a medium because the sleeves were really snug (although I think that was a common complaint).

I just purchased the Coletta coat in a size 4 and that fits me well but living in California, I don't need to worry about thick layers underneath. I also have the Donegal tweed schoolboy blazer in a size 4 and it fits nicely...I have layered a bit more with that one. I think since you are planning on wearing thinner layers under the Harriet, you could probably size on the smaller side.

I noticed this blazer is on sale now! Good for you!... I bought it at full price (but still love it!) :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I purchased the Arrow Sweater Jacket during the recent 30% off promo and used my 25% off coupon card. I've worn it a three times and I just looked and no signs of pilling (so far). I'm going to be so disappointed if it happens.

Has anyone tried the Amade Sweater? I love the casual look of it. I'm tempted to order it using the $100 free shipping code but would love to hear any feedback on it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. The Jackie in henna is more of a brown than red. Think of henna ink and it's close to some of those brown tones. Jackie in cerise is firecracker cone orange. You can see Jackie in nightfall blue in this post.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Pamela- I tried the amande sweater and I loved it! I tried it on in my normal xs and it was pretty roomie but I kind of loved it that way! If you want it more fitted size down. I think it will be cute with some layering too!!

    However I can't decide if it's a bit itchy??I hope that helps! It's a super cute neck!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks a lot, patsy! I figure then size 2 should do. The Rimini I tried was an S (pics on my blogs -- need to search for it).

    ReplyDelete
  63. Bought a cashmere cardi in soft peacock. I am interested to see the quality. I have a nice comb for pilling so I've never really thought about it.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Jane: my Cashmere v-neck cardi in soft peacock is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'll post a mini-review here to let you know how it is!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Lauren, I got brown. Did you find them? Finger crossed ;)

Kind of comforting to know I'm not the only one with mutiple sweater bins.

    ReplyDelete
  66. @mommydearest I ordered both, but will only keep one pair. I really need black, but the brown looked lovely with the shearling. They should be here tomorrow. Both pairs for $200 can't beat that.

    ReplyDelete
  67. has anyone tried the v-neck dream cardigan this season? i had some sweaters from the dream line last season and they lost their shape and looked terrible after a couple of wears. i'm usually an XS in JC sweaters, but i'm wondering if an XXS would hold it's shape better. thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  68. xoxo: Thanks for confirming me about those skirts. I haven't steamed/ironed the waist band but it shouldn't have passed the quality control in the first place. I noticed it before opening the plastic package. It's minor, but still irritating to get something not perfect when you're paying so much $$.

    ReplyDelete
  69. i took advantage of the 20% PROMO on sweaters because i really wanted to Alexie. the gorgeous blue color is already sold out completely! I decided on the golden topaz. i also bit the bullet and ordered a pair of the Minnie pants in Coal because i really need a gray dress pant and have heard good things about the Minnie. my $25 rewards and the free shipping code helped me along :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. I would like to buy the tavern green color of Cambridge cable crewneck sweater and the rope color of Alexie sweater. Actually, really temped to free ship code for 100$... However only just 20%? I think the price will be soon down more? :)

I hope that both may be left when fall sale or holiday season sale start. Better to wait for more? Is it possible to get both rights on sale time? :) Please, may not be sold out~~~

What about your opinion? Should I have to wait for more or not? I just feel a little bit nervous both items are sold out immediately. :(

    hehehe

  71. Not a word about the Shawl Collar Cashmere... Should I not even bother? have been obsessing for some time but still afraid of the price tag $$$
