    Alexis,
You had a recent post about getting items cancelled that you ordered. I just got 2 items cancelled this morning from a Thursday order. Scarves I ordered. They were not pop backs that I am aware of...there were 3 color choices first thing in an update and still some appear online in colors I did not order but....hey, it still sucks!

  2. Is it me, or am I alone in having a hard time even thinking about swimsuit season? Seriously, besides needing to hit the gym, I really really need to start my "It's Spring, so Bust Out The Fake Tanner" routine.

  3. Also, in relation to Genny's post... I was looking all over creation for the cashmere sweater in dusty shale. My order kept getting canceled, and I even tried the 'we will find it' with NO luck. Then all of the sudden the sweater, in DS, in *my size* just appeared on the site and now it's somewhere in UPS-land, but will be mine soon. Weird. In this case, worked out for me, but still, I sympathize with your frustration, Genny!

  4. J Crew swim wear is so cute and stylish, but I've always wanted to write a letter to the company telling them that they'd sell about a million more suits each year if they would just put light removable pads in all the tops! Seriously, how hard would that be? Even Target suits come with them!

  5. OT, Ann Taylor just put up a whole bunch of cute new arrivals on their site and I believe today is the last day of the 40% off promo. They have a new top that looks just like the victoria cami but is made of cotton sateen and comes in white, navy and turquoise. With the 40% off it's a great deal!

  7. Genny: I am so sorry to hear about the order cancellations. That news always sucks. :( Since it wasn't a pop-back, maybe J.Crew will do a "we will find it for you"? :)

  8. Real Working Mom of OC - thank you! That answered a question I had about their suits, which I would really like to try.

Here's another - do they have it designed such that you could add the pads? Hanging out at the pool with the kids (and dads) I just don't like the headlight effect, you know? I realize no one is probably looking but it makes me very self conscious so I won't wear them without. well, maybe with a top that has lots of ruching like the dressy jersey strapless dress last year - that had enough to cover it.

  9. ITA with HeidiG & RWMOC: I need those pads on every swim wear or I will not wear them. I bought the LoL for Target Isis print swimsuit and that even had padding.
I will not be ordering any swimwear unless they are marked down pretty low. I stocked up last year during super sale... :-)

  10. HeidiG,
I'm not an expert, but to the best of my knowlege, most of J Crew's swim suit tops come without pads and are not designed so that you can add them (at least not securely, so that they wouldn't slide all over the place). I've seen that there are a few tops that you can order online with pads, but not very many. I'm with jcrewphd... I will not buy a suit without them!

  11. I am the opposite. I won't buy a suit with pads. I find them bulky and uncomfortable and rarely do they sit in the right place. Never had the problem Heidi described however:) LOL:) I really like JCrew suits as well as LE ones. I probably own WAY too many of both. Oh well:) I usually find the JC ones on super duper sale.

  12. I love J.Crew swim! It's the only brand of swimwear I've bought since I can remember. Unfortunately I have no excuse to buy some right now.

I agree, I do like some padding (lining) in my suits. Some of JC's have it, but it is not always clearly described. I would like more options.

  13. I have such a love/hate relationship with JCrew's swimwear! They have really pretty colors and patterns and I especially love that they've added a D-cup option. The regular suits are particularly unaccommodating in that area...

BUT, as others have mentioned, lack of support at the bust makes them better for preteens than grownups. Many styles have no support of any kind - not even a shelf bra. Hello, JCrew!! $100 suits with NOTHING?

Personally, I only buy suits with padding or at least an underwire that have *some* support (which narrows it down to VERY few styles) and on sale.

  14. I've actually noticed a big difference in suits between this year and last year. Last year I ordered a bunch of suits, and about 80% of them had at least a light lining, just for modesty; not full on padding. This year, I've ordered and returned 3 suits without even trying them on because there's been no lining whatsoever. I just don't understand it. I understand not putting a ton of padding, as not everyone wants that, but not even a 1/4 of an inch of lining for when you get out of the water? I mean, for most of us, it's just biology people...
Anyone else noticed less suits with lining this year than last?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh yes, must have a lining...just no padding for me. A lining is a must. All my JCrew suits have a lining or at least a double layer of fabric.

  16. Ditto- No lining-No keep! I was in love with the stained glass print and ordered the swimsuit the minute it went down to $59. I thought that maybe I could make it work without the lining.... wishful thinking- Yikes! It promptly was returned. And free shipping on my $120+ swimsuit doesn't seem too exciting! Not a fabulous promo- maybe 20% some FP items... hint hint

  17. I'm a new poster but read this blog often - it is great!

I have a really tough time finding swimwear as a petite with a larger (not too large - 30D) bust. I usually end up with Old Navy because I'm exasperated that other swimwear doesn't fit and don't want to spend the $ - and have to wear a L or XL top with a tie back and a S / XS bottom.

This year I finally sprang for the JCrew free swimwear shipping and bought a whole bunch to try them. They are beautiful suits - these are the tops I tried in 32D:

    http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/swim/specialswimsizes/dcup/PRDOVR~16480/16480.jsp

The colors and the quality of the fabric is excellent (I particularly liked the bright eucalyptus) but the are TOO big! If you are a 30 bust size - good luck - these tops will gape on you :(

Please let me know if you have any suggestions - I'm considering trying the non-D cup swim tops but before I go through the buy and return cycle (which is the life of petites and plus sizes, I guess!) I'd like to hear how they fit from others who have tried.

I have no idea what size I am in the non-D cup - the tops have hook backs so I'm guessing I am a 2 (I normally would wear a 0P in dress sizes, or a 00P depending on how big the clothing runs) but I am afraid a 2 will be too small in the bust.

Related note - I find their bottoms run a bit small (opposite problem!) Anyone else?

    Thanks so much!

  18. P.S. Tummy,
That's helpful! I'm a 32D and looking at their D-cup suits online now. They appear to be sold out in 32 for several of the styles... According to their size chart for swimwear it looks like if you went for numeric sizes for the tops, 30D would be a 4; 32D would be a 6. I'd guess you'd want to try one of those two as a 30DD.

  19. P.S. Tummy- I've always had problems with J-Crew bottoms... I'm a size 8/10 and the mediums are too tight, but large is too long (too much extra fabric in the back- not fun!) I've given up on their bottoms! I love bottoms that tie on the side though, because then you can adjust it the way you want it.

Has anyone tried on the Solid Underwire Twist Bandeau Top? I just ordered it and I'm a little nervous it will fit weird. The cut looks a little strange (its a bit narrow.)
