  1. I do love their wedding pieces. Timeless and wearable even on non-wedding special occasions, as they're so chic and simple.

  2. Hey - love the blog! Glad I found it - thank you! Just wondering - I bought some final sale items that are too big - I'm a size 6 but my shirts are huge on me. I'd like to return them - any recommendations on how I can get them to take it back? It says Final Sale...thanks !

  3. I was flipping through the January catalog and noticed that almost all of the models wearing the bridesmaid dresses with the side zip are posed with their right side facing away, or with their arm covering their right side, or their elbow is pressed against their side. I have found those side zippers to be too long and they bunch out, creating a weird looking bump. I wore the Sophia in my sister's wedding this fall, along with other bridesmaids (one wore the Cecelia) and they all had that unsightly bump. I think that JC should shorten these zippers or switch to back zippers where possible. They have pretty pieces, but the execution is just not there sometimes.

  4. Does anyone have the crinkle cascade dress? Would you say it runs big, small, or tts? Thanks!

Karazy, take it to the store and tell them you have other JC shirts in the same size but the sizing on the ones you got were way off and you think they must be mis-labeled. If you mail in your return they are liable to mail it back to you.

  5. Silver_Lining: I had the same experience with my Cecelia. I ordered a ten, but it wasn't until the dress was just a bit too big for me that the bump went away. Those side zips are annoying. Even though I am now consistently a size 6 or 8 in dresses, I would HIGHLY suggest that if you are buying one of the silk tricitone (Sp.?) dresses with a side zip, size up one size so the bump is less obnoxious. Isn't that awful that we have to do this? Why does J. Crew not get it...we shouldn't have to worry about whether or not things are going to look terrible because of a side zip.

Okay, I have given my two cents. :)

  6. I think J Crew does wedding wear so well. Congrats to everyone that got engaged over the holidays!

    Some OT questions:

I know Minnie pants have been discussed a lot, but I have to ask....Are they really worth $90.00? I'm thinking I should hold out for a global sale on these. Does anyone have the wild blackberry color? Is it a navy?

I'm also really interested in that suckered gingham shirt, and wouldn't you know, it's backordered in my size and color. Any comments on that would really help. Is the hydrangea really bright? Thanks for any comments.

  7. Good call, Dina! I'm finding the side zip at JC to be the bane of my existence, ha! I saw the tulle tiered shirt in my B&M and was dismayed to see it has one of those damn side zippers - conveniently omitted from the description on jcrew.com. Gah!

So yeah, I agree if you want to downplay the side 'bump' to size up in the dresses. I got mine on eBay for $35 so I wasn't too dismayed - but another bridesmaid paid FP for the Cecelia. Geez!

Resolution #2 for JC: No Side Zips, Evarrrrrrrrr!

  8. Oh groan, I bought the Collier top on a popback this morning and now it is gone so I can't see the description. I should have checked for a side zip. Does the Collier have a side zip, anyone? I sure hope not after reading about the issues. I don't have any J.Crew tops or dresses with side zips...

  9. Baybaybay: The Ruffled Collier top does have a side zip, unfortunately. Click Here for the description.

  10. Slightly OT:
One kind Anon blogger asked me to pass a following info:

"..if anyone is looking for the watercolor leopard skirt the Indianapolis store has a few left in small sizes like 0,2, 4 maybe a six, too. Their no. Is 317-848-2739 they are on Eastern time. I also saw some sweet guava cashmere sweaters(v & crew) and 1 gold coin skirt--either a size 6 or 8?? There were a few suede Mary janes left and some other shoes but in smaller sizes like 7, 8, 9. I saw some purple coats and I thought I saw a navy hooded trench coat--the one others raved about size 4??? There was an ivory Sherpa hoodie in size xl and several smaller sizes of the men's red or grey lumberjack shirts with Sherpa lining. ... two more things I saw at the Indianapolis store were size 8 tiered fleur lace top $59.99 less 20% and black size 8 sultana piqué jacket for $49.99?? Less 20%.317-848-2739."

    HTH!

  11. Thank you for the link and info Fabulous Florida Mommy.

Darn. I swear I can see the rigid side zip in the photo. Maybe I can hide it under a cardi.

  12. Ladies, I'm gonna go totally OT for a minute. I just received my first NY&Co order (thanks to recommendations on Gigi's blog). If you're interested in the Jaspe sequined sweatshirt I would HIGHLY recommend their version (ComfortZone Sequin Sweatshirt) - the quality is very nice, it's perfectly slouchy, TTS, and the sequins are sewn onto a panel that's sewn to the front of the sweatshirt, so there are no loose ends, fraying, etc. It's $19.77 and available in grey and black in all sizes. Pics on Gigi's blog!

I also got the Tiered Cami after trying almost every incarnation of tiered camis at JC with no luck. This is a great little top, doesn't add too much volume, has adjustable straps, shelf bra, no side zip (yay!) and best of all - no raw edges. All of the tiers are finished. Looks really cute under a blazer or cardigan, and with a sash belt tied around it. In black and "charming pearl" (ivory), $29.71. They're also doing Extra30 off your entire order through today.

Sorry about the OT - I know that some JCA's were stalking the sequined Jaspe and just wanted to rave about the alternative! We now bring you back to your JCA program already in progress....

  13. I got engaged a few weeks ago and I'm a hard core J.Crew shopper, but I don't think I'm going to go with one of their wedding gowns. I DO know that like J.Crew, the wedding dress that I choose WILL have pockets :)

As for bridesmaids dresses, I will most likely go with J.Crew. I'm loving the Silk Taffeta Bow Monde dress so much, but I'm not sure if it would look good on bigger sizes...

  14. RachelJane, I don't own the Minnies, but I tried them on twice. The wild blackberry color is navy, imo. As for whether they're worth it, I think they would be if you like a more fitted, body-skimming legging-like pant. Think ankle toothpick cut but with a side zip and no back pockets.

They're well-made and basically flew out of my store. I didn't buy them, though, because I knew I wouldn't wear them. I like back pockets, and the cut seemed to make my already short legs look shorter. In my personal opinion, the Minnie looks best on slender women with long legs.

  15. Lauren S., Thanks so much for your review of the Minnies. I'm glad to hear that the Blackberry is a true navy, and I really want to try them. Now we just need a sale!

BTW, I have reviewed the Frances cami in Moroccan blue, and the Frances long sleeved striped shirt in my blog, if anyone needs to see pics.

  16. Just placed my first Martin and Osa order and am blown away. No time limit on returns--Yeah for liberal return policies for full refund (not just store credit like JC after 60 days) Plus, items are great quality. I am in love. Thanks to Chloe Conspiracy for posting a great code they had recently. Extra 20 off and free shipping AND FREE RETURNS:) but nothing is going back. LOVE. I needed to expand my JCrew obsession after 7 years. Just wasn't happy anymore. Also been ordering a TON of Lands End and very happy with their customer service.

  17. Summer, I am SOOO with you. M & O has had some great items. And Land's End has really stepped up their style, in addition to outstanding quality (esp cashmere), liberal return policy, good service, great website, and frequent free shipping offers w/NO minimum, ever. If you haven't checked them out lately and are a little weary of ruffles and raw edges, it's worth a look.

  18. Ruffles,
Lands End even has critter sequin tees with LONG sleeves and the material is thick soft cotton. I just got one today and am ordering the rest of the designs. I am in LOVE. So much better than paper thin tees with short sleeves. I just laugh and walk by the tables. Plus, the LE price--steal:) No time limit for return either. Thanks for your post.

  19. Their wedding dresses are gorgeous, getting better every season I think! The bridesmaid dresses are very chic too. I only wish they had them when I got married. I joke to my husband that I want to have another wedding so it can be J.Crew :)

  20. Baybaybay, I have the collier top and the zipper isn't too bad. I bought mine quite loose though, like Dina suggested regarding the dresses. It is a beautiful top and a great deal right now. I hope it works out for you.

  21. Karazy-

I purchased a final sale sweater several months ago and it was huge - it couldn't possibly have been tagged correctly.

I took it back to the store and it was returned without any problem at all. They seemed to agree that it was not reasonable to make me keep the sweater if it was not as advertised.

  22. To go off topic, but onto the NY&co side panel: My best friend is six three, and always had to wear black pants for work. She went through a small fortune looking for flattering bottoms that actually fit until she hit on NY&co ponte pants. They have a refreshingly all encompassing size and height size scale on their pants and many of their skirts, too. She ended up with about a zillion pairs since she had to have the work supply separate from the 'good clothes' supply! They really made a difference in how she dressed and spent her money for the better.

  23. I love their wedding stuff -- so pretty! I've recommended them to so many friends, can't wait for one of them to actually buy a dress!

  24. Cass -- IRL pics of the cascade dress are here in this post on my blog.

silver_lining - Thanks for the shout out. I *do* love that sweatshirt. For those that want to have a look, check this post.

  25. Hi, I posted this on this site on a post about wedding attire from 2008, and then figured I should post it on a more recent post :)

I am working on getting dresses from them right now. The only thing is one of my bridesmaids is larger than a size 16, the largest size they carry. I have asked about getting extra fabric, to either get the dress taken out or, preferably make a whole other dress, but I was told they only give 1 yard.

I was surprised to see in the blog article in 2008 that they gave enough fabric to a buyer to make another dress.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Please!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kristen White: What about buying an extra dress to take the fabric from? Do you have a tailor? If so, ask her/him if it is possible to take the fabric from one dress and add it to another one to make it larger. The expense would be more than just buying extra fabric, but if you want all the dresses the same it could be an option.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Fab Florida Mom: Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into that.

  28. Kelsey,

I recently had one of my bustiest bridesmaids try on the Bow Monde dress because I was also concerned about fit (we actually had about 10 different dresses at my house to see what would work best). The front detail actually works really well for someone who is well-endowed on top, and my bridesmaid felt like the dress had good "structure." She loved it. She put it on three times because she liked it so much, and swears she wants to wear it again. I thought it was also flattering when I tried one on in my size, and I am a small b-cup at best. Since I think it will look great on all of my bridesmaids, we are ordering the bow monde for my wedding.
