J.Crew Email: A special offer...for a limited time

"Thanks!" to Marietta & love2shop4bags, who let us know about the following latest email from J.Crew.

J.Crew is once again increasing the perks of opening a J.Crew credit card. From now until September 7th, J.Crew is offering 20% off your first purchase when you open an account with them.

Is this offer enticing enough to get you to sign up, if you haven't already? :)

  1. I confess I'm tempted. I've never had one and always figured I didn't need one more credit card. But, I always do online orders and now I'm thinking, Why not use a JC card that will earn me some JC rewards?

But I know the interest rate is crazy, so I'll have to think about it.

  2. I signed up during this offer last year. I am glad I did. I've gotten over $100 in rewards since then and I never order online unless there is free shipping... and I haven't paid a cent of interest because I never carry a balance. So, I'd say I've gotten a pretty good deal!

  3. I am relatively new to shopping at JCrew. I have found this blog to be pretty helpful and entertaining! :)

I am kinda tempted to open a card and purchase the Lexi tote. Not sure though. I would want to order from the red phone to avoid the mammoth shipping charge. If I apply now, would I receive the card before September 7th? Or are you able to use the 20% off your first purchase beyond Sept. 7th?

  4. I signed up in Fall 07 when they had a similar special and I had a pretty big purchase. Don't pay any interest, and it's totally worthwhile.

BUT . . . sometimes your credit rating will suffer from having too many cards, even ones that you don't use, so beware of store promos.

Has anyone else seen the retail-only Margot jacket? So cute!

  5. As tempting as it is the 20% interest if one is late scares the heck out of me.

  6. i'm curious - if i open an account in the store and order from the red phone, can i get free shipping? the email says this offer isn't good with other promo offers...but i don't want to pay for shipping!

  7. Red phone shipping (on full priced items) is always free.

Ahhhh--It's not a card, it's just an automatic deduction.

I signed up for this card around the same time last year when I purchased 3 pieces of the 120's suiting. As a cardholder, I can say that the rewards, while tempting on paper, are really a mixed bag. First of all, the email mentions "cardmember only sales", I have NEVER ONCE been informed of a members only sale. If others have, could you please share? Second, the realization that you must spend $500 to get $25 bucks back can knock you down! I love clothes, I love shopping, I love JCrew, but $500 bucks is still a lot of money. Third, normal credit card rules apply. Opening a store card negatively impacts your credit score, the interest rate is insane etc.

    As for the pros:

--I've taken advantage of the free alterations several times.

--The $25 back is nice (despite the fact that it expires).

  8. Nope. We are on Dave Ramsey to pay off my law school loans. No credit here! The 20% off isn't worth it.

Now, I have been slowly saving up my spending money for a percentage off promotion. As soon as that hits with no strings attached, I'll be placing an order!

  9. Hi! I'm hoping to purchase my bridesmaids dresses from J Crew.
Im wondering if JC offers this "20% off when you open a credit card" discount at any other time during the year. Isn't there usually a percentage discount on first purchases with a card?

And like Ahhhhh says, do you think you need to make the purchase before sept. 7?
