J.Crew Email: Instant heirlooms

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta & love2shop4bags, who shared J.Crew's latest email.

J.Crew is featuring several new arrivals from their jewelry collection (click here). According to the email:
A Shining Moment. We're inspired by the timelessness of vintage jewelry. Our designs are custom-colored, hand assembled and one of a kind. It's no longer about adding an accent, it's about making a statement.
As mentioned in an earlier post (click here), "It's a little bit of a candy moment," says Jenna Lyons, J.Crew's creative director. "You don't have to try it on. You can just take it to the cash register."

What are your thoughts on the pieces shown? Do you have any favorites? Which pieces do you think are the most versatile to wear?

  1. I love the ring and I'm very curious to see the tear drop necklace in person. But who am I kidding... I would wear any of it. Just not sure what I would purchase at FP.

  2. I have the crystal dangle ring and love it. It's really sweet. The dangle style rings are really popular right now but mostly they are pearly at other retailers.

  3. As a vintage collector, I appreciate the vintage inspiration...hoping the quality lives up to the pics.

  4. Heidi-

I think you'll be disappointed with the teardrop necklace in person. It looks very cheap, IMO. I think JC did a much better job with the Taj Mahal necklace and previous others.

As far as Jenna's comments about not having to try on- really? Some of the pieces are pretty in this collection, but I wouldn't purchase anything sight unseen.

I'd like to see some silvertone pieces. Gold is ok, but I wear far more silver on a regular basis.

  5. I am a sucker for their jewelery, I love it all. I wish now though that I would have known that the bubble necklace was coming in this beautiful pink color..

  6. I love all the fall jewelry trends! So much vintage inspired looks and statements pieces!!!

  7. I liked the teardrop necklace IRL. But my favorite piece is not pictured. It's the gold and crystal-cluster necklace. I was worried that it would be heavy, but it's just perfect. Still trying to decide if I want to pay full price. My second favorite is the golden bean necklace, but since I have the snowball necklace, not sure I need this one. I think the heirloom flora necklace is much prettier IRL - that is not a good pic.

  8. Wow I love everything! The bubble necklace is by far my favorite--it would add so much to any outfit.

  9. I saw the teardrop necklace at a B&M this weekend and was really disappointed. It was HUGE. I'm sure some of the stylish JCAs could rock this, but it was too much for me.

  10. Forgot to mention that I agree with jbird--the teardrop necklace did look cheap IRL (JMO) because of the size of the teardrop/crystals.

  11. I saw the crystal dangle ring on a woman at a B&M (she bought it the day it came in and she was wearing it during a return of an unrelated item). It looked great on her.

  12. JBird - I agree, I'd love to see some silver pieces!!

  13. I love their jewelry but only buy it wayyy discounted. There's no way they can call them instant heirlooms with a straight face! For example the primrose garden necklace/bracelet... saw many of those in the store with chipped paint. Have also seen pieces with stones missing.

I wish they'd bring back their beaded necklaces, like the double strand necklackes, such as the ones they had in fall 2008. I only have one, the yellow ladybug one, but I love it and it seems more substantial than some of their other stuff.

  14. Love the Libretto necklace !!! It is calling my name!!

  15. I bought the Duchess bracelet in the pink/amber color and love it. I also loved the darker one, but didn't get it. I am going to by the Crystal Libretto necklace at some point, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I also got the Heirloom Flora earrings. I just love their jewelry!! :)

  16. So far most of my jewelry purchases have been fine. 2 rings, 2 bracelets and 2 necklaces. I had the resin links bracelte and that cracked frequently but was promptly replaced.

  17. I tried the Duchess necklace and bracelet in the store and loved them. I also tried the larger Majesty necklace and surprisingly liked that as well. I thought it would be too bulky & heavy, but it layed nicely, and both were the perfect length. The Majesty bracelet was okay, but a tad too chunky for me.
As for the pink Bubble necklace--cannot wait to see IRL!

  18. I really like the Jeweled Garland Necklace with the butterscotch ribbon. Has anyone seen that in person?

  19. I agree with Em, calling gold plate or brass heirloom is flat out untrue. It is only meant to last a couple of months before you can expect the plating or brass to turn. You can usually clean it but every time you do a little of the plating wears off. There's no way it will be around to pass down to the next generation. That's just silly. I wish they would be honest about their products and stop with the BS

That said, I love JC's vintage jewelry style. I am waiting for the libretto to go on sale :)

  20. The teardrop necklace is very striking from a distance. I saw it on display, but not up close. That's not a bad pricepoint. It's costume, but probably better production than Forever 21.

I reviewed the gold coin skirt from the Lookbook

  21. I don't purchase jewelry from JCrew. I was considering the Crystal Thornbush earrings until I saw them in person. They're alot bigger than I thought they would be.

  22. I love jcrew costume jewelry. Had some of mine for years and absolutely no tarnish. For me, it is more cost efficient to buy jcrew than forever21, which tarnishes after 3-4 wears. That said, I would not pay above $60 for any piece that is not 'fine jewelry'.

  23. Of the pieces shown, I'd like to see the Siren necklace and the Crystal Dangle Ring in person before buying at sale price. I was drawn to the Shimmering Stone necklace in orchid, but saw it in person and wasn't too impressed by the gold plating. It just didn't complement the stones' coloring in my eyes. I also spotted the Shimmering Teardrop necklace on a hanging shirt in-store and it was just huge. Like someone dipped their whole thumb in some gold plating and rolled it in crystals. Too big, and I'm afraid of the damage it might do mid-swing. I wanted a close look at the libretto, but could only see from a distance. I'm down for vintage-inspired, but can't do the chunky jewelry (talking to you, jewel garland earrings!) But I am looking forward to seeing more jewelry. Does anyone think the wooden acorns will be back this year?

  24. I really like the recent Vintage inspired jewelry pieces, but always try to see all J.Crew jewelry IRL before making a final commitment, because the pics and sizing on the website are most often times deceiving. Although, I did see on the Heirloom Flora earrings that they are giving the measurement now (at least on that pair...I haven't checked the descriptions for the other pieces). I think it would be nice to see each jewelry item on a model for sizing reference on the website and not just some of the pieces on the models in the catalogs.

  25. Yes, please show the jewelry on models! Some things are so surprisingly big IRL. Overall, I love the jewelry and own several necklaces & bracelets. Am planning on the majesty bracelet this month, maybe a dangle ring. I really hope they bring back some enameled pieces soon.

  26. Notwithstanding my J.Crew addiction, I don't own any J.Crew jewelry.

I admire the aesthetic but the pieces are just too large in scale to look right on me, e.g. the 20mm beads on the fireball bracelet. Since I've learned about DIY jewelry, I've made a lot of JC-inspired pieces in sizes that are more flattering to me.

Also, I second the questions about the "heirloom" quality of brass and plated items.

  27. They have really stepped it up with their jewelry. I find myself wanting almost every piece!

  28. jbird - thank for the teardrop info. and I totally agree with you on wishing for silver pieces, as an alternative!

  29. I just bought two majesty bracelets last night. Clear and smokey black! Love them. Wearing them together today. Quality is good. Love the J. Crew accesory store in Soho. Really want to go back for the necklace...
