Extra 20% Off Final Sale & Free Shipping on $150+

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Kendra & Crewbie (in this post), Sophie & JTS (in this post), Marietta, and HeidiG, who let us know about J.Crew's latest promotion.

They are offering an additional 20% off sale items (click here) using promo code EXTRA20. This offer expires Wednesday, 8/19/09. Moreover, J.Crew sent an email (shown below) announcing this promotion- also adding free shipping on orders of $150+.
This has been the promotion that many JCAs (including myself) have been waiting for. {wahoo!} :)

Are you planning to take advantage of this promotion? If so, what items are you planning to get? If not, what are the reasons behind your decision (e.g. nothing tempting to get, promo not enticing enough)?

  1. Extra 20% but no update this morning (yet anyway). Same old stuff and nothing in my size that I am kinda interested in. Pass.

    ReplyDelete
  2. Ruffles: I noticed no update in sale stock either. I am hoping it will occur later today. ;)

  3. hmm...extra 20% is nice, but extra 20% + free shipping would be even nicer! you can't combine codes, can you?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I *thought* it was about time for one of these! Let's cross our collective fingers there is a huge update later this morning!! :)

Stefanie - no combining codes :( But one time they added free shipping to the promo for the last day. I doubt they would do it again though.

    YAY for extra 20% off!

  5. I will be at the DC JCA event on Sunday this weekend (with the 20% off of 125 dollars deal), so unless I see something exceptional, I just don't think I can bite. I really want to save as many pennies for amazing items...I have changed how I shop since I became a SAHM...buy fewer items closer to full price (and try to get a discount--like this weekend) and only buy final sale if I know for 100% sure it is something that I will love just as much as the full-priced merchandise I bought earlier.

BTW, it seems J. Crew is trying to train us all to be that way. The liberty poppy jacket I bought WAY back in May is still for sale at full price. And I don't think the Icon trench will ever go on sale (sadly--even with a discount--that is way out of my range).

I will take a look, but I will wait till there is an update!

Thanks for the info, Alexis, and all! :)

  6. Items look the same. Think I will save my money for next weekend's JCA Event at Tysons!

  7. Ahhhhh.... I swear this happens to me EVERY TIME I order something from JCrew!!!! I just put in an order on Friday for a few final sale items (cotton cady dress and cafe capris). What a crock!

    ReplyDelete
  8. waiting for an update in the crewcuts sale items

    ReplyDelete
  9. Do they have a regular update time anymore? Or do you guys just keep checking. I remember the good old days of 6:45 a.m... :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm looking forward to the update.. Pulled the trigger on 2 prs of cafe capris and the garland cami on Thurs/Fri...I had been holding out for a few weeks and had a stressful day at work..(and I had FS from an exchange). Oh well, it was only about ~$20 less with code, and I have to say, I'm proud for holding out that long!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. FYI: my email says it includes free shipping for orders over $150! I'm ordering my bridesmaids' dresses.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I am waiting for the next rollout and the KOP JCA event. Don't feel like dealing with final sale on the same tired items that aren't priced that well for final sale.

    ReplyDelete
  13. when i used this code on a $250 order, it applied the 20% off AND free shipping. Not sure why, but just letting people know!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I just got the same email as Sophie. Code is the same (EXTRA20) but it indicates Free Shipping on $150+ orders. Alexis - I just sent you a copy of the email.

But like Dina & pixelant, going to the JCA event at Tysons on Sunday, so I think I'll save my pennies for that.

    ReplyDelete
  15. After seeing Sophie's comment, I just tried it with $199 in my cart, and it gave FREE SHIPPING. Have fun :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. lilac cupcake- When is the KOP event?

    ReplyDelete
  17. woo hoo! thanks, sophie and JTS! didn't get my email yet, but saw your comment and pulled the trigger! trying out the herringbone heyward coat, danielle sandals (i already own these in a different color and wore them out!), some broken-in boyfriend chinos, and crewcuts for my daughter--awesome savings!

now if only they'd update with some popbacks i'm stalking!

  19. what is this KOP event? Let me in on the secret!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Finally 20% off and free shipping! Pulled the trigger on all the cafe capri's and some cords from last season. Love them!

OT...if any JCA's are the SC, specifically wanting to make a trip to the Greenville store, I have coupons for 20% off $125 purchase. Email me enstowe @ hotmail . com

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think the extra 20% is the result of stores sending their sale items back to the warehouse. Now the stalking begins!! If my pop backs show up, I'm sending in an order and then that's it. No more summer stuff. Fortunately it's 90 degrees here. I"ll be wearing summer clothes for a while yet.

Here's a repeat question. Does anyone know how the ringspun painter henley fits? I have crew neck painter tees in XS and the rinspun ruffle henley in S. Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I must be the extra 20% off plus free shipping magnet. Saturday I ordered pants, and two shirts. I used a free shipping code posted here (thanks again Alexis) but missed out on the extra 20% off.

I did check on Sunday and saw that the one shirt and the pants were both gone so now I feel comfortable without that nagging feeling that I might have saved even more.

I hope each of you scores some good deals.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I put some items last night but didn't pull the trigger due to shipping charges... and now with free shipping it's just too tempting, but I don't see anything that I really want.

Has anyone tried the silk flower tank (15035) and comment on the fit? I have a hard time with "classic fit" sizing. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Pardon my cynicism, but I see this as J.Crew offering 20% off on all the junk that was mailed back from the stores after the stores failed to unload it ...

    ReplyDelete
  25. UGH I just ordered on Friday! What are the chances that they'll give me the credit?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Lilac Cupcake - Let us know when the KOP event will happen, usually it's 25% off right? Maybe I'll get a few last things on my list today then wait to get fall stuff at the event!

jcmama - the Silk Flower Tank is boxy, but I've got quite a chest so I need that! I wasn't as in love with it IRL as in the catalog, though. The flowers on the front are kinda small and sad looking. The shell color is definitely more like peach, not pink.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I went for the cord co-ed mini. It turned out to be only $27 with the extra20 and student discount. Now, hopefully it fits. (I have seen that some people have length issues with it--for once having short legs might pay off!)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mags:
thank you for the info. I may just opt for something else.

I placed an order with the free shipping code last Friday, but I doubt they will apply 20% off - it says not valid on previous order - these days CS seems to be really firm about their policies. At least when I call them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I ordered the cashmere collier cardi in mist, the beaded fireworks necklace in heather nectar, the summerweight chino cocktail capri in honey brown, and the ruffled cotton-sateen dress in dark mushroom. I had been eyeing these for awhile, so the extra 20% + free shipping was the right incentive to pull the trigger.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Marietta:
do you know whether you have to size down on the cocktail capris like I had to do with the cafe capris? If I were to get a petit on cocktail capris should I size up from my regular size? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  31. jcmama - I ordered petite, and I sized up one from my regular size. They fit wonderfully, and what a bargain at $15.99!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thank you for your info Marietta. I only own the cafe's but maybe I may have to try the cocktails for the bargain price!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am wanting a few things, but am holding back. I hope there is a nice restock tomorrow morning. I binged on fall stuff this weekend and it's hard to go back to summer thinking!

  34. Annoyed! I ordered Saturday morning. Oh well. I got things that aren't still available.

  35. Ladies asking about the King of Prussia event:

love2shop4bags is organizing an event at KOP for the upcoming rollout. The discount is 20% off of a $125+ purchase.

love2shop4bags told me that she is currently waiting for the PS at KOP to get back to her on exactly when the rollout is happening so she can schedule a date accordingly. Tentatively I believe we are looking at Sunday August 30 at around 10am. If you want more info, please email love2shop4bags:

    love2shop4bags@yahoo.com

Also feel free to email me at lilac.cupcake@gmail.com and I will make sure you are in the loop.

The more the merrier! It would be great to meet some Philly area JCAs :)

  36. Hi, I just wanted to let anyone interested in ruffle camis, like the francis or the victoria, that, believe if or not, EDDIE BAUER has a really cute one. It comes in pewter, raspberry, ivory, and a lovely green. It's $39.95 and machine washable. It is really adorable on, and comfortable. I highly recommend anyone interested in the new francis to give it a try in a store.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks Lilac Cupcake! (I was just going to email you and Mags about this.)

Lilac Cupcake, Mags, **Tracey**, and jcrewlover: I am in the process of talking to the PS at KOP about an event and she would be more than happy to have us, as well as having us come in early before the store opens or stay later after the closes. The discount will be 20% off of $125. Unfortunately, she does not have too much advanced notice of when rollouts will be, but she just called me to say there would be a small one this Tuesday and Wednesday with most of it out on the floor Thursday. She thinks it will be sweaters, dream stuff, etc. I mentioned doing it on Sunday, Aug. 30th, and she would be up for that, since we have more time to plan on that in our schedules.

Please let me know if you are interested in a KOP JCA event by emailing me at love2shop4bags AT yahoo DOT com.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thanks for the update, love2shop4bags :) I am looking forward to it!

I hope KOP will get the wool ruffle front coat in the different colors, but it seems like that might come in a later rollout, if at all.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You're welcome Lilac Cupcake...me too! I'll ask the PS about the coat specifically when I schedule the event. Maybe they will get coats this week, but I agree, it probably won't be until later. I guess we will just have to do another JCA event then as well ;)

  40. IknewitIknewitIknewit...

The moment I cave in & buy something from the B&M, the site has a sale!

Oh well, at least I bought something from the fall line, so I didn't miss out on any possible savings. On the plus side it's soooo cute. It's the Mia double serge pencil skirt, #WA7500. I think it's instore only anyway.

I am stalking a few other items, mostly basics like blouses & sweaters. I may pull the trigger & buy a few things. I'm a little reluctant because I hate the whole FS aspect.

Also, my lovely SA said that they intend to re-stock with the fall line this week. I guess I need to sit down & figure out what I want more. New styles or old savings.

Hope my fellow JCAs & JCOs find some treasures,

    Heather:D

  43. yay! i bought some great stuff! i love when they have free shipping and extra % off promos! woo hoo!

    ReplyDelete
  44. The email I received stated that the discount applied to FINAL SALE items only. However, I successfully applied it to an entire shopping cart full of regular sale (non-final sale) stuff. Wonder if this is a bug?

When I tried applying it to full price items, it gave me the free shipping, but no 20% off.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am going to wait and see if there is an update tomorrow. Not worth it b/c there is not $150 in current items and I won't pay the high shipping fees. I wish it was $100 minimum of tired leftovers! :)or 30% off would be nice due to the lateness of the season.

  46. Hi, just wanted to report back--stopped in B&M over lunch and they have a ton of new arrivals that aren't on the website yet. They have the tiered silk ruffle shell, the tweed pencil skirt MO wore in Vogue (this is darker colors than the current collection tweed skirt and is cheaper at $158), a bunch of cute new embellished cardigans in various styles, an astrid-like jacket that is like the cascading floral astrid but ruffles around the collar and down the placket instead of flowers (comes in charcoal and is cheaper than the cascading flowers one at $248), and a cute color block sheath dress with two-fabric ruffles around the collar (though in wash-out colors of peach/beige). I also think JC is lowering the price point on their embellished tees b/c they had a whole bunch of cute new embellished tees at $39.50.

I actually went in to return my slub cotton ruffle tank which got a hole after one wearing. They gave me a full refund but I am done with the slub cotton fabric. A slub cotton tee I bought last yr got a hole after 2 wearings so clearly it's not a fluke.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh, they also had cotton long-sleeve versions of the frances in dark blue pinstripe and a jacket that is just like the andrea pique from last year but without a collar.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Cass,
Thanks for the new store items list:)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hi Cass,

    Thanks for the heads up. I also have had trouble with holes in my tees. When I returned one to my SA last weekend he said; "Oh, well the summer tees are sometimes a lighter fabric & may be more prone to damage than the fall & winter tees". He did offer to have it repaired & cheerfully refunded it to my card when I choose no to keep it. That said, I think I'll stay away from summer tees from now on :}

Thanks also for the review of the new items, most esp. the Michelle skirt. I feel in love with a serge skirt this weekend, but now I may have to go back sooner than planned to look at the tweeds.

Oh & speaking of the serge skirt, for any of you JCAs that may be interested, here's a review...

    Mia Pencil Skirt

Straight out of a classic noir or early James Bond film, Mia is a vintage treasure. It's a v. flattering, soft/stretchy wool pencil skirt that comes to just below the knee on my 5 ft & a smidge frame.

The skirts come in three colours; pale grey, soft orchid purple (similar to last year's plum shirts), rust/copper orange, & black. I bought the grey, because I know it will go with everything. Surprisingly, I bought the orange as well.

This is a big step out of my comfort zone, but it looked terrific with the pale blue top & grey schoolboy jacket (both similar to items in my closet) from the sales floor. I've convinced myself that it's not orange, it's "antique copper" since it has flecks of green, bronze, & chestnut as well as "russet". Yes, I know it's rather silly to be orange-phobic, esp. with fall just around the bend.

In comparison to the spicy copper, the sweet purple/orchid/lavender colour looked a little out of context. I'm just not certain that it would blend as successfully with my fall / winter work wardrobe as the grey & copper shades. This particular colour seems better suited to a late winter, early spring hues. All of the colours are softer, more muted (almost heathered), colours compared to last seasons serge skirts.

Also, although they are similar to last seasons skirts, I think the designers intended them to be worn a little longer. The shape would suggest a classic silhouette; high waist nipping into a to-the-knee hem. I think it's instore only, so no petites. I actually had to size down to a 2 (I've been a 4reg /6p for ages) to get it to fit in the waist so I think the vanity sizing has struck again.

My wonderful SA said that this coming season is all about sleek, classic, "Mad Men" inspired looks. As a result, "Everything is designed to fit closer to the body". I guess that corresponds with the skinny jean trend. A little scary for folks like me who prefer softer, more fluid cuts.

So, to sum up.... Mia is a great skirt that I think will wear well. However, it does have the tailored shape involving a higher waist & longer hemlines that are popular this season. As a result, it may look dated in a couple of years. It's hard to say if that may be the case. Look at how long flared & wide-leg jeans lasted! For a rather reasonable price, $118 without tax, I think it's worth the investment.

    HTH,

    Heather:D

  52. Genny/Heather, no prob. It was the largest amt of new stock I've seen in the store in a long time, so I got all excited. :) One more thing--they had a nice peacoat that looks like it's made of the substantial double serge fabric, but I only saw it in really bright (crayola-like) yellow.

    ReplyDelete
  53. La Belle Helene -- I have to agree with your cynicism about the sale! :)

And Cass, I'm dying to get to a B&M to see this tweed pencil skirt you mentioned!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Cass, thanks for the updates! And I am with you on the slub cotton tops - mine from last year have all developed holes. I'm adding it to the list of fabrics to avoid at J.Crew (cashmere, dream sweaters).

    ReplyDelete
  55. Cliquot - I can't wait to check out that tweed skirt, either. I *love* tweed. As for the double-serge pencil skirt, I have it in orchid - I think it's an enchanting color & I can't wait to wear it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I placed an order over the weekend including some sale items and new arrivals. After the extra 20% off email this morning, I called CS and they honored the discount on the already submitted order. Thank you, J Crew!

  58. Cass - thank you so much for the new release updates! I just called my local store and had them place the Obama skirt on hold for me. :-)

  59. Hi La Belle Helene,

I'm so glad you have the Mia in the orchid. I love how this skirt fits & am trying reeeeaaally hard not to buy 1 of ea colour. I'm just not sure if I can "Make it work" with my (admittedly subdued) winter wardrobe.

    The best I could do was to combine it with the paisley perfect fit blouse & a navy jacket. It ended up looking a little too conservative for my audience. California college students can be ruthless :}

Perhaps you could do a polyvore or two? I'd appreciate your suggestions.

    TIA,

    Heather:D

  60. hi all, was at my local b&m (soho, nyc) today too--cass totally nailed it all in her review! just wanted to add, i bought the michelle o tweed pencil! it immediately caught my eye when i walked in and knew i wanted it (didn't realize at that point it was the MO skirt, but that wouldn't have had any bearing anyhow!)..it's so pretty--the vibrant salmon, pink and rose threads jump out among the subdued taupes and khakis. really pretty, chunky tweed that will work well with lots of this yrs and last yrs color palettes as far as tops!

i also bought the printed tiered cami--wasn't interested in the solid colors, but the printed one caught my eye--it's a black and white sort of shadowy floral?

cass, entirely agree with you about that two-tone dress--very pretty style but blah color. hope they'll put that out in other colors.

also liked that yellow wool peacoat (my b&m also had navy, but i kinda preferred the lemon), but it's over 90 degrees here today and couldn't even fathom a wool jacket!

another astrid like jacket other then the ruffled one--this one was a bit more subtle with just some grosgrain ribbon trim--pretty..i might revisit that one in cooler weather!

finally, another limited edition collection item--a buttery leather skirt in a stone color. very pretty, but pricey and i've already bought a couple of the limited collection items so holding off on this one!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hey casual-crew,

Thanks for the heads up. I guess I should steer clear of most of the tees. I'll admit that I usually buy them as ride alongs. It's too bad tho' as I like to try out some of the more unusual colours (peacock, tea rose, old brick) with something easy like a tee.

Oh well, all the more reason to invest in Jackies I suppose.

    Thanks for the help,

    Heather:D

    ReplyDelete
  62. I don't necessarily agree with helping out the card holders. I have had my JCrew card since day one. I tried to exchange a jacket for the same color of jacket but a different style. --again--Same color/different style (not a final sale item either). The phone SA would not do the sale as an exchange. I was told it would have to be a new order with shipping AGAIN being charged. I hung up. She said it would only "work" as an exchange for the exact same item in a different size. I was a bit bummed. (make that a lot).

    ReplyDelete
  63. Stefanie, it's funny on the two toned dress--when I was in the dressing room someone was asking the SAs if it came in any other colors and they said no. JC, are you getting that people want more color options other than things that make us look deathly pale? ;)

One other thing I forgot is that they had some new solid colored wool a-line miniskirts--they may have been in double serge fabric but I didn't look too closely. Miniskirts look positively pornographic on me b/c my legs are very long.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I wish it were on regular price, too. There aren't a lot of things in Final Sale that I want. I'll be patiently waiting, keeping my card in my wallet until I get the coupon code for all merchandise instead.

    ReplyDelete
  65. BCBG is having an additional 20% off their sale section too, BTW.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Read the fine print about free shipping. Your order must be $150+ after the 20% discount in order to get the free shipping. I am not thrilled by that idea.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Okay, I did it. I ordered enough to get free shipping. The 20% works on promo prices, too. And, only 1 item was marked final sale and I know it will fit. :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. I caved and bought myself the tuxedo-front solid in order to get the free shipping and 20%. They were all FINAL SALES items, but I know I will fit them all. Plus they're silk shirts for work.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This is a great promo. I picked up a few items for my husband as well as some gifts for friends and family - thankfully they make it easy by dropping hints now and again and I always take note.

I have to say I'm a little perplexed by the concept of a ride-along for free shipping. I never seem to have trouble reaching the minimum. (*_*) There must be some pretty shrewd JCAs out there that can really spot the bargains. Would love to see a post on what people find are the great deals.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Does anyone have a style number for the MO tweed skirt? I ordered what I think is the MO skirt from the Malibu store style #17446. Is this the same skirt that is in Lucky magazine as the "Elletra" skirt?

  77. Hmm, I just placed an $153 order (before discounts, applicable taxes, and shipping/handling), but still got charged $14.50 for shipping after using the EXTRA20 promotional code. Should I contact them?

I noticed their Final Sales graphic on their website doesn't mention the free shipping over $150...

  78. Phil: Your order has to total over $150 AFTER the 20% discount is applied! HTH!?! :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. I made a big order Sunday night at 730PM to take advantage of the free shipping, and then this cheery little email pops up. Luckily, no FS in there, so no difference this time around. These B&M reports are making my mouth water, stop ladies! Already envisioning wrapping myself in a light purple skirt with eggplant tights. Going to scope out the sale section now...

    ReplyDelete
  80. I'm so pleased that I found your blog. I like JCrew and ususally don't get the chance to take advantage of the discounts.

I collected their cashmere sweaters for years. I've noticed the last few years that the cashmere appears to be paper thin. Is this a figment in my mind or does anyone else notice this?

of note: I purchased a 1950's vintage sweater off ebay (made in Scotland) and was very impressed with the quality and ply of the cashmere....no moth holes and very soft.

    ReplyDelete
  81. It's not your imagination. The cashmere items do feel paper thin. I sent J.Crew an e-mail regarding a cashmere sweater I purchased. I wore it once and immediately there was a hole.
