J.Crew Email: Summer sale. New styles added.

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Julie & Marietta, who let us know about J.Crew's latest email. J.Crew sent an email this morning letting us know that they added {a lot of} items in their Sale Section (click here).

There were a few items from season past, like the Patent-leather Cameron Satchel (Item 98872; Regular $450.00, now $240-ish). Moreover, several items have been reduced in price, like the Victoria Ruffle Cami (Item 99742; Regular: $88.00, was: $59.99 and now $29.99). Stock is moving quickly too- as many items have already been selling out.

Are you planning to check out J.Crew's Sale Section? Do you think you will get something (or are you all "shopped out" for awhile)? If so, please let us know! :)

  1. I actually just canceled my order (one item... petite cocktail capri) so I could add a Victoria ruffle cami to it... there was one in my size and the color I've been wanting, and $29.99 is a great deal. Did not see that earlier this morning. Wonder if it'll actually go through, though! *fingers crossed*

  3. Sigh, now the Victoria cami is sold out in Regular. Anyone know how the petites fit? I've been waiting for the price on that to drop for MONTHS!

  4. What time did they update the sale section today?

  5. I ordered several items. The stock refreshed right before my eyes. I shopped and then posted on the men's post that the site updated for today...gotta shop first then post! After that I got the email update. Love it when I am ahead of the game!

  6. Natalie,
Don't worry. I think that top is highly overrated. I own it and returned it a couple of times. The pleats don't hold their shape:(

  7. Theres a watercolor skirt size 6 available on the site !

  8. I wasn't expecting a big update today but happened to be right in front of my computer when the the sale section was updated. I got two Victoria ruffle camis, two Soirée sateen blazers ($149->$39.99), and a Ruffled jersey seaside dress (19.99) from last year. Hopefully I will like some of them when I receive the package. I am pretty excited. This is the biggest order I have placed for a few months.

  10. I ordered a really cute sweater dress that I had never seen before, some capris, flip flops and the merengue top.
Does anyone have the merengue top? How does it fit?

  11. I had just ordered the cocktail capri on line a few days ago but noticed the price went down again. I called customer service and they gave me a price adjustment. No problem at all with giving me an adjustment on an item that was already on sale!

  12. Advice please!! I'm thinking about the Monterey skirt in the orange. I know it's been discussed before so I apologize for the repeat. Is it TTS? I have lots of khaki for the summer so I'm thinking about the burnished orange. Any advice on what would work with that color? I'm looking at it as a casual, run errands in skirt. Not sure $45 is a great deal on it but I'd like to make up my mind and then stalk the sale site. Thanks a bunch!

  13. I am thinking of buying the editor satchel but can decide on color... what do you think is a better rich and everyday color sandalwood or the fresh melon?
    any reviews?

  14. too shopped out for a 5:45AM PDT update ; ) any good popbacks?

  15. I noticed the Mila tank has made it to the sale section, but $120 is still a too pricey for me. I'm also eyeing the short sleeve cashmere cardi in amethyst- now $99. I sure would love a 20% off sale promo right now!

  16. @ happy life,
The site had already been updated by about 8 am EDT with about 819 items at the time I was on -- not sure how much earlier the update happened, though. There must have been a lot of action even then -- five minutes after I got an e-mail saying "thanks for your order," I got another e-mail saying that everything in the order had been canceled. I haven't had the heart to go back and get anything else, sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I just placed my order with one of the $150+ free ship codes but it wouldn't let me upgrade to overnight and pay the difference. I emailed customer service hoping they would fix it.

  18. Hi all,

Like many JCAs, I guess I came late to the party. I got the email @ 9 this morning (Pacific) & they're already below 600 items in the sale section!

I'm not too heartbroken as I've already snatched up most of the pieces I was stalking back on the Memorial Day sale. Also, I'm sort of waitng for the colours & etc. to refresh later this season.

    Still, the time difference is a little frustrating. It's like trying to call on a radio give-away -- feels like everyone else has speed dial :}

On the plus side, I'm glad to see my fab JCAs have found some great deals!

  19. *Diana* -- I picked up the Editor Satchel in Fresh Melon on the most recent EXTRA20 sale, and I love it! The color is a very soft mix of pink/tan/peach (it's hard to describe, actually). I have a lot of colors in my wardrobe that complement this bag, so it was an easy choice. My second choice would have been the Sandalwood. The Sandalwood is probably the better choice for everyday use as it will go with everything. The leather is heavenly soft, but quite substantial. I like the magnet clasp inside the bag, and I like that I can use it without the resin chain, if I wish. Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I picked up the satin soiree blazer, a couple of the dressy jersey strapless dresses, and the petite cafe capri, all on sale. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  21. It sounds like I might be in the minority, but I am waiting for even better deals, which I suspect are coming. Someone mentioned in a post a few days back that it seems JCrew is managing their inventory better--I think they are just getting better at hiding the fact they still have a lot of inventory (at least in certain items).

O/T, but happy life, if you are out there, any update on your call with Mickey Drexler? I received truly exemplary customer service this morning, and I am wondering if word has come down from on high about some of the issues you mentioned?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Diana - I pulled the trigger on the Editor Satchel this morning when I saw the price went down further. I got the Sandalwood as it seems like more of a neutral and will go with everything! I'm using a vanilla colored tumbled leather bag right now (for Spring and Summer) and hope I can use the Editor through the fall and winter!

I, too, would like to hear more about the bag and the different colors! Sometimes the sandalwood looks like a nude color, and in other pics it looks brown! I guess I'll find out Friday when my UPS 'boyfriend' delivers my stuff! Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Diana -- Sandalwood for sure on the Editor Tote. I have been *Lusting* after that bag forever. Good for you! Go for it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I added enough to my cart to get the FS, but (sanctimoniously) didn't go through with pulling the trigger. I recently made a new JC rule, that I won't order anything if I still have a shipment that I'm tracking. Last week I ordered the cinema T-straps and the slingback peeptoe maryjanes in dusk, to see which I like better. (And I SWEAR I'll only keep ONE.) They should arrive tomorrow, can't wait! Then we'll see if I need anything from the new sale stuff.

  25. Marketeer - Good choice with the meringue top order. I have two of these and love them. I love being able to dress it up or down. They have a great subtle shimmer you don't see well on line. As far as fit, it's more of a flowly fit away from the body and it's lined so there's no show-through.

Natalie - I own several of the petite victorias and I'm 5'5". I prefer them over the regular ones (which I also own) since they run a bit more fitted and are slighter shorter at the hem. This does require a lot more maintenance for the pleats but I found it to be worth it for the beautiful architectural style. The only one that's a bit sheer is the ivory but you can always wear a cami underneath or a sweater/jacket on top of it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks so much JNJ! I'm still considering the petite as I really love the collar on the Victoria. I wear my Elizabeth and Lydia tops all the time. I'm 5'7" with a 36" bust and a long torso. Wondering if I should do the P8 or P10. I usually get 8's, but considering it's a petite....

Also torn on the color. I like the cerise (so bright and pretty!) but not sure how it would look on. I'm blonde, blue-eyed, and pale! Help?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Natalie,
I am 5'8" and have a 36 1/2 inch bust and I would not recommend the petite...I have the regular and they fit perfectly. I cannot imagine wearing a petite but I guess you can always try...just my two cents worth.

    ReplyDelete
  28. esp. not now that I reread your post! You have a long torso???
I have a regular torso. But of course, no harm in trying. I, personally, hate returns and rarely make them b/c so...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Summer,

Yes, long torso and short legs. It's a curse! I think you're right. Returns are such a pain, especially given J.Crew's exorbitant shipping rates. I guess I'll troll the sale site in hopes the regular comes back. Thanks for all of the help!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes, I would wait for a pop back. I don't mean to be a spoil sport but with they way you describe yourself...I thought...hmmm. I am 99.9% sure one will pop back!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Dang, the one day I don't check the sale section, there are goodies to be found.

  32. Has anyone tried to shrink a Dream sweater?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have a few items in my cart, but not sure if I'm going to pull the trigger. Debating about getting the gateau in the light chartreuse.

    ReplyDelete
  34. question.... is the gateau skirt flattering? I'm pear shaped and am worried it won't flatter my shape! Thoughts?

  36. *Diana* - I would go with sandalwood, but the fresh melon is beautiful. I have a lot of tan/neutral browns, so I bought both the fresh melon and weathered stone.

Which reminds me, has anyone had problems with the paint chipping off on the rings looping the purse and strap? I just started using my weathered stone bag, and the gray paint chipped off and began to show the chrome of the ring. I returned it and got another, but am wondering if this is going to keep happening. Anyone have any insight to treat this problem? I've already informed CS. TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  37. On another handbag note, anyone have problems with the large metallic gallery hobo rubbing against your tops and causing pilling? After about a week of using the large pale gold version (which I lusted after for so long before pulling the trigger with the red card), I notice all my Ts and terry cardigans were all fuzzy. I know it's because of the texture of the bag, but not sure how to fix it. Already informed CS of this one too...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Natalie - I'm sure there will be a popback online in regular size. I've also occassionally seen a couple every once in awhile at the b&m's sale section in ivory, light pewter grey, butterscotch, and melon. You may want to give a local store a call to see if they can locate one for you.
BTW, the cerise ie very bright but I think that it makes it fun. It's virtually the same exact color as the Elizabeth in bright flame which I also have.

Pakola - I have shrunk a Dream turtleneck but you have to be very careful doing it on a very low setting in your dryer and taking it out every few minutes to check it and then finish it by air-drying while slightly damp. I've also tried to do that with one of their cashmere v-necks which was super roomy even though I'm busty and it still won't shrink enough so I've been wearing it on my 'I'm feelin' comfy' days - lol. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Thanks JNJ!

Anyone have an inkling of when the next Extra20 sale will be?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Customer service will not give price adjustments for a sale item, I have tried twice today and was told NO, since the item was already on promotion. J Crew really need to be more consistent with their policies.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jennifer Joy -

I love my Gateau skirt. I only pair it with a fitted tank or tee. I find the trick to all fuller skirts it to watch the length of top you pair it with. I am shorter waisted and if I wear to short of a top it adds weight. A too long one can also look weird, so the trick is finding the right ones. It is a really comfortable skirt as well. HTHs :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. love2shop4bags: I have not actually used my Editor Satchel (Fresh Melon) yet, so I cannot comment on the problem you're having with the paint on the rings. However, thanks so much for mentioning it. I'll keep an eye on this when I start using mine. ugh, what a pain! Do you treat your JC leather bags with anything to repel water? How about leather conditioners? I wondered if I should do this.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I have the Editor Tote in Sandalwood (which I am trying to get rid of (have too many bags!) on the exchange) so I can say a bit about the color. It is definitely brown, not tan. It is a medium brown. I think it's a great neutral that will definitely work well in all four seasons. I hope that helps someone.

    ReplyDelete
  44. JKW - Thanks for the feedback. I noticed it started chipping as the ring would rotate in the metal grommets attached to the bag. I did notice someone on eBay was selling one of these bags which had the same problem.

As of yet, I have not done anything to treat the bags since I just got them, but was wondering the same. I hate to do anything that could cause more problem, and I wish JC would have some treatment products they support.

Has anyone had any discussion with CS regarding treatment of the handbags?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I don't understand why the JC Customer Service is so difficult about a price adjustment when you could just reorder the item, and then return the first, higher priced one. (This works assuming you use free shipping code). Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Susy: CS made me feel like a school kid for asking for the price adjustment. They said the one time courtesy had already been extended (like January), I do not make a habit out of this. Do they keep track of all our requests?

  48. Remember the guy who just a week ago commented he was done for the next month or two? Well he caved and ordered some pants. I especially happy to have scored the Glenn Check cotton ones for $49.99; regular $79.99. Wanted them for a while and the fit is great. Just like the four classic fit chinos I have.

This blog is my enabler, I truly think I am done for a while, right? ;)

  49. J.Crew is pretty clear about their price adjustment policy. From their HELP pages:

    price adjustment

J.Crew gladly honors a one-time price adjustment on full-price merchandise within seven days of the retail purchase or mail order ship date if accompanied by the original receipt. Items not purchased at full price are ineligible for price adjustments.

If you're outside the seven days or the item was not purchased at full price, they are extending a courtesy to give you an adjustment. Yes, you could return the item and purchase again but how do they know you haven't worn it? If they gave price adjustments for anything at any time people would be calling constantly and what amount of inventory would ever be sold at full price in the end? They have to draw the line somewhere.

  50. I'm working away from home all week and they update the sale section, ahhhhhhh!!!!! Sounds like it's a good "sale week".

    ReplyDelete
  51. jcrew guy in Canada - which pants are you talking about? They sound interesting but I see nothing in glen plaid cotton on the site.

    ReplyDelete
  52. CheesyGoodness I like your J.Crew rule. I'm always a little sheepish when the UPS guy makes more than one stop a week at my place. There was one week he was here 4 days in a row, although one day was not for J.Crew.

It's those darn EXTRA% promos on the sale section that get me. Especially when you are watching the restock from day to day. I definitely get caught up in the chase sometimes.

Nothing for me this time around, but I did get a price adjustment on an item I purchased at FP and is now on sale. CS was very gracious about it, too.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Everyone: It sounds like most of you were able to get some fabulous finds at some amazing prices today!!! I hope tomorrow there will be another sale update. :)

JCrew Guy In Canada: Congrats on the pants!!! (And no judgment here- I have definitely fallen off the "I won't buy from J.Crew for awhile" band wagon many a-times.) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  54. dickfiddy, the pants I scored are the Glenn Check were in the catalog a few months back, they were only 4 pair available, all in my size.

Sorry if there are none left.

    ReplyDelete
  55. CaptainCrew, the rule is kind of hard to stick to. Even when I'm not loving everything, there always seems to be SOME thing, ya know? Popbacks have been calling to me, as well as reduced prices. At least today I held strong! Hey, was your quadruple UPS week during the jingle/ hohoho timeframe? I actually had a couple of those boxes sent to my mom's across town to cut down on seeing my UPS guy too much. "You know you have an online shopping problem when..."

    ReplyDelete
  56. I noticed the jersey strapless dresses are now marked down to 49.99 from 78.00! Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Last week I ordered some rip stop utility pants [can't wear these to work, and they actually seem a little impractical, but I just wanted them :( ]. Last week they were "only" 49.99, but now they are (eek) 69.99 ...problem is I ordered them in size 4 (I have cocktail capris in size 4 from this year that fit perfectly) but the 4 in these ripstops was just too tight in the lower hip/thigh. So I ordered the 6, but now it is $20 more. How have I rationalized this? Maybe these won't fit either, and I will just return them... BTW, did anyone notice that the Frenchie Slicker sold out on sale and is coming back as a higher price? Sale is so relative.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I can't believe I missed out on the Victoria cami!

    ReplyDelete
  59. During the 20% off week, I called back in two days, since they lowered the sale price, to get price adjusted and the CS did not honor it! What's up with the inconsistencies?! I had to order again and pay shipping...rrr...

    ReplyDelete
  60. dickfiddy, I think these are the pants you are asking about. Use the link to stalk the website and see if they popback. If you're so inclined.

  62. Would you be able to tell me why sometimes they have my size on sale (8) but not always? It is so weird! One day nothing, the next day 70 items! What?!

    ReplyDelete
  63. jcmama the website states the policy as price adjustments on full price merch. If they reduced the sale price then they were not FP to begin with so that conforms to the policy.

  65. CheesyGoodness you are too funny. I know exactly what you mean about always being SOME thing. ;-)

It seems as though I get a new UPS driver every 4 months or so since the regular guy quit, almost 2 years ago now. So I don't get to know them well enough to be too embarassed - yet. Sheepish is bad enough. LOL

I had my 4/5 days UPS experience couple weeks ago. I was out front digging up some dandelions and the UPS guy asks me if I live at the house. "Well, do you think I would be over at the neighbors pulling weeds?" He didn't laugh. Next day was another pkg and another and then the last day was a pair of Fluevog shoes that needed a signature. He was there every previous day around 2pm so I hit the shower at 10:30 and of course, he arrives and I answer the door in my robe with hair in a towel. Same dude and this time I said, "Why the early delivery? I knew as soon as I hit the shower you would be on my doorstep. If only I could make that work every time." This time, he laughed.

Wonder how long he'll be around...

    ReplyDelete
  66. C,

It's funny what they did with the rip-stop pants pricing. They were $49 for the pink and white recently and I bought the pink. Now the pink and gray are regular price and the green and brown ones are on deal with the white. If you have the pink at the lower price, why not exchange them for the other size? Personally, I found these to fit TTS, although the leg is a little slimmer, which I love. My older models of these pants are quite baggy in the legs and the new version is a little 'crisper', if one can say that about cargo pants. I also like that the outside leg seam is sewn to mimic the piping on the pockets and flaps. It's a nice little touch. I found the pink to be very slightly sheer, not like the lighter Saturday pants. I will have to get more now that other colors are on sale. I live in these pants while gardening and playing with the dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Nothing exciting on sale for me and not much else available of interest either. I am waiting for the new arrivals. Only a couple of things in the preview piqued my curiosity but the rest of the available stuff seems quite tired and bored. I would like a couple of summer basics for my husband but there are so few promos and deals and none for the menswear that he likes.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Maybe part of the reason I am not interested is that I was able to get the last few things I wanted. I managed to exchange the Belle satchel in the dusty pink for one in the pearly white color and it is nicer but I may give it to my sister for her birthday as she would love it more than I. Just not feeling it with the hugeness of the bag.

I recently also received the cotton-silk paisley perfect shirt and it is gorgeous. Whisper-light cotton lawn in a vibrant and colorful print (colors are a slightly deeper IRL). There is the subtlest sheen from the silk and the fit is tailored to a T. Will jazz up my suits, jeans or even as a beach cover-up. If you love deep pink then try this top as a classic addition to your wardrobe.

The rip-stop utility pants were also in my order and like C I found the lower hip and legs to be a little smaller than usual. Not as good as the ones from 2007 but fine in my usual size. One pair is more than enough though.

The last item on my wish list was the Lyla printed peep toes in sweet papaya. These are like the Lulu's on steroids. Skimpier toe coverage, summery straw bow and sweet printed silk fabric. Ooh la la! I will be wearing these babies to a birthday brunch on Sunday with a pink sheath dress. Verrryy cute!

I will enjoy the new things but by the time I get around to wearing all the summer clothes I bought recently it will be September so for now I'm feeling a bit shopped out.

  69. J Crew Guy in Can: If you delete your account info from the website it makes resisting J Crew purchases a little easier. It makes you think twice before hitting the submit button when you have to take out your credit card and enter all your info.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes, JCrew puts notes in your file when they extend a price adjustment (one time courtesy) on a sale item. They are starting to keep track of these things so people don't take advantage. Price adjustments are for full priced items only.

  71. I was just checking the update on the sale section.
Everything i click on is soldout, Is it one of those days where there is no inventory or is it really sold out ?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hi happy life - there was a massive update at about 6 am EST and there were actually pieces in stock (although very limited colors/sizes) - I was able to nab the only navy superfine cotton jacket. Hope it ships! It's the only thing I've really wanted from JC in the last few months.

  77. The last time I placed an order I ordered cashmere argyle cardigan with ruffled placket and chinos-both on sale w/extra percentage off. I decided to order the multiple chain necklace with ribbon tie to raise my order up to get free shipping thus saving $17. So I was able to use two codes! Luckily I noticed a couple of weeks later the $99 necklace went on sale for some $30 less. I couldn't believe when I phoned CS they gave me credited the difference to my account! She just agreed to do it, no problem,I was very surprised as they'd told me that adjustment could be done if you phoned within 7 days when I placed the order.
