Last Day For 30% Off Final Sale {sniffle}

Today is the last day J.Crew is offering 30% off final sale items with promo code EXTRA30.

I *so* wanted to take advantage of this offer. Except it seemed there was nothing left in the sale section in my size. There were a few instances that I found an item or two, but by the time I "checked out" the items had disappeared from my shopping cart. Despite the natural sadness of not getting those items, I am not upset.

I am actually thrilled to see this promotion working so well to move J.Crew's sale inventory. Why? Because I hope that J.Crew will offer similar promotions like this one, when they are in need to liquidate merchandise. I much prefer this sale as oppose to having sample sales in NYC or random warehouse sales across the country (although the warehouse sales are pretty cool!) ;)

Are you planning to take advantage of this offer today? If so, which items do you plan to get (if you can get them)? ;) Do you prefer this kind of sale over the sample/ warehouse sales?

  1. Most everything is sold out that I want. I did get to order a few items first thing this morning. I was just on the site and everything I checked out has the red message its gonnnnnne! I'll check in the morning PST.

  2. I was very happy with this sale! The markdowns along with the Extra 30 were such a great deal! It would be even better with Free Shipping but I'll settle with this. I was very satisfied with all my purchases! :)
My order from Tuesday has already been shipped out!

  3. Right before the 30% offer came out, a bunch of sales items were removed from the website. Just on Saturday, there were 35 items available for Men's xsmall. After the promo, there's only 7. And no, there were not sold out because I checked the site late at night and then found all those stuff gone early in the morning, 7-ish and then I notice this "30% discount)

  4. I agree with Anon@12:45am. I want to purchase the patterned Avignon heels, but they are no where to be found. Before the sale they were available in every size and now you can't even find them by searching by item number. I bet they pop back up over the weekend...ridiculous.

  5. Managed to place a $300 order just now... am still eyeing a few items that have yet to gone on sale but resisting the temptation to buy until there's another discount code for regular items...

  6. I'm contemplating the merino crosshatch sweater. Does anyone know if this is going to pil? And if you have seen it, can you advise if it is worth purchasing? Also, what about the cashmere villa cardi is this going to pil quickly?

I had some items in my basket when this sale started. These items were taken off the sale site before the %30 sale but still were in my basket and I was able to purchase them with the discount by telephone. If you are looking for something and it's not in final sale, do a search for it and you may find that it's still available.

I know this has been covered before, but can someone clarify if you can get the teacher discount and the %30? I was told by a CS rep today that you cannot.

  7. All the stuff i wanted disappeared from my shopping cart today before i could check out. It was frustrating and disappointing :-(

  8. I was pleased to get the library shawl cardigan at a discounted price of 39.99 plus 30% off!!! Most of my damage was done at Jcrew with my 25% off card. Overall, I am happy with the instore and online sale promotions. Brings back memories of Dec/Jan.

  9. This is a fabulous promotion! Such a great way to get shoppers shopping again! Keep it up JCrew!

Love the 25% off card too!

  10. I purchased the Fresco Cardigan. It was $41.99 with the 30% discount, and I get an additional 15% taken off thanks to my student discount. I've been wanting to get this ever since it came out, and I'm so glad that I ended up paying so little for it! I also got quilted flip flops with a giraffe print, it was $13.99 after the 30%.

This sale really helped me feel better about not getting the red card :D

  11. I totally placed 3 orders and the total is almost $500. I'm so happy with this sale except it shouldn't be the final sale (for some items). I was eyeing the crosshatch sweater and hope it will be pretty (I asked about this at my store and the lady said it was sold out, even though I read from the catalog that it's jcrew.com/catelog only but it didn't show that on the web).

I also bought wheel cardigan in key lime, waterfall ruffle cardigan in putty, some dresses, some tees and tanks.

I just wish there's a free shipping as well.

As for the student discount, one said yes and another said no. I placed 2 orders that the 15% off was applied. The other one, the lady didn't let me, but she did waive the shipping.

  12. 100%- for sure- you can use the student/educator discount with this promo. It is not a global promo. This is technically the only promo you CAN use your student/educator discount with anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I just returned from a vacation expecting to see the 25% off card in my mail box and... it's not there!
Are some people still awaiting their's?

  14. I placed two orders with about 7 items each. Everything I wanted was in my shopping basket and on sale that I had been saving for a long time on Tuesday afternoon -except one item did sell out- while checking out.

And I found more on Wed. night when new things were added. So I did really well buying only what I really had been eyeing and getting my educator's discount. Even though shipping is still way too high!

Now,if everything comes without a defect it will be a true miracle. Been having problems with defective items lately.

  15. I ordered the Lattice Cami in Light Pewter and Shell. Looks cute online, hopefully I will like IRL!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. This is such a great offer. I would not have bought one single thing if it was only 20% off but the 30% made it worth it;)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Nathan,

I ordered the shell pink lattice cami and the colored neckline lattice cami. Here's hoping they are nice too!

I also got the cashmere villa cardigan in the chiffon color. With the 30% off and my educator's discount it was a deal:)

  19. Has anyone washed the library shawl cardigan themselves? It says dry clean, but I'm hoping that it can be handwashed or washed on the gentle cycle.

  20. I ordered the Silk Ripple Top in tawny olive and navy (Item #12638), and the Georgi High Heels with tassels in Black (item #12346). Neither were final sale, but the shoes were marked down enough plus the discount that I didn't feel sick to my stomach for ordering $250 shoes!

Someone else may have already mentioned this, but for items that have mysteriously disappeared, try typing your Google search like this: site:www.jcrew.com golden roses clutch

This works if you know what the item is called - and sometimes works if you use the item #. It'll bring up the item and assuming it's available it's still available to purchase. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I just ordered the velvet blazer in cobalt, and the herringbone fiona...shipped for 89.48...plus I will put in for my educator discount! Yes!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I keep checking the site for myself and my children (hubby is not a big J. Crew fan), but we just don't need anything. I will hold off and use my 25% off card that I received in the mail for some new merchandise.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Tons of new stuff added to the sale section this AM. Just got 2 Lea cardis (to add to the 3 I already have) for 20.99 each. Lots of "old" (i.e. last fall and winter) dresses, sweaters, etc., added...

    ReplyDelete
  24. J Crew is definitely playing games with these sales. Many items that I've had my eye on, that were previously in the sale section pre-30% off sale, were put back on regular price during this sale. I've noticed this before as well.

On the other hand, a curious thing has happened to the men's denim pricing. Some of the higher priced selvage jeans have actually dropped in their full retail price over the last week. For example, mens vintage slim fit selvage jeans that were $165 are now $135. A few other pairs had the same thing happen. Anyone else notice this on any other items? Could this be part of the strategy by JCrew to get their initial price points lower on many items??

(May be a good idea for a new thread, wink wink)

  26. I just bought the Retro-chambray Wendy skirt for $20 and the Wool flannel wrap dress $27. I had a ring in my cart too, but it was gone by the time I finished shopping.

  27. What is it about last day of 30% off final sale that makes things suddening look good.
Can anyone give me a review of these items

Paige metallic braided chunky-heel sandals - does the wood heel make them "not dressy"

Stretch summerweight bermuda - how wide are the legs on these - in the pic they look good, but I thought I saw them in store and the leg seemed wide.

Surplus jean - are they as cute as they look

  28. For those of you who have the Library Shawl cardigan, how does it fit? Is it looser like the Michelle or more fitted like the Portland cardigans? I'm debating on a S or XS. TIA!!!

  29. i have a couple of cashmere sweaters in my cart. should i pull the trigger?
do you think i will wear them in the spring and summer in my freezing cold office?

  30. The item that I wanted that disappeared from my shopping bag on Tuesday just now reappeared. It was not there earlier this morning. I bought just it so I hope it ships.

  31. Stacy,
Buy at least one...the price is really good on most of them right now with the 30% off. I bought one yesterday and am excited to get it:)

    ReplyDelete
  32. dani_california,

If money is no object go for it!

However, I only bought things that I had on my most wanted list that were on sale with the additional % off. Otherwise, I would wait...

sorry I don't know how to do a link.
Great job, I didn't realize how popular this blog was. I have been reading it from the beginning and I just love it. But the traffic explains why when someone mentions a great item on here, it sells out immediately on jcrew.com. Keep up the good work.

  34. I broke down and ordered this morning when the black Shipley popped up in my size. I hope that I actually receive it and love it as much as all the other JCAs who own it! :)

Also if anyone is out at their b&m looking to use their red card and sees the opaque tights in a m/l in the dark fog color, would you mind letting me know? Those have gotten away from me... Thanks!

Oh and one more OT item: I was at Target last night, and they restocked the Merona pearl cluster necklaces. I didn't get any but would be willing to go back if someone is still looking for one. Just let me know!

    it's.a.southern.thing:

I'm always amazed how nice the vast majority of JCAs are to each other given that most of us have never met each other. I already own this necklace but I just wanted to say how sweet "it's a southern thing" is to offer to pick up this charming necklace!

  38. If anyone bought the cashmere cabin pullover in heather silver size XL (129.99 - 30% off) and ends up not liking it, I had it in my cart and it disappeared! Would be happy to buy it from you if you can't return b/c of final sale. I really wanted to give it to someone special for an upcoming birthday who has wanted it for months. 39. Does anyone have an opinion on the Maisey Jacket colors. I tried on the off white in the store and love the jacket, but not the color. I am trying to decide between the charcoal and the pink. With Spring coming up, the pink is calling to me. Has anyone seen this color IRL. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.

I had no willpower in this sale -- spent more than $300 over four orders (but that's for 10 items, and they waived shipping on two of the orders -- customer service was really nice about it). Fortunately only three of the items were labeled "final sale" on the invoice, even though more of them were actually on final sale. No more online shopping for me! But, er, I can't promise I won't be at the local B&M soon, looking for some of those non-online deals that other people have posted about and seeing if I qualify for the educator's discount. :-">

    ReplyDelete
  41. Its a southern thing--
If you go into your store or even call j.crew and tell them you are looking for the tights, they can put out a search at all the stores for your items. If it comes up at another store, they will ship it to you. I tried it with a belt, which unfortunately wasn't successful, but it's a great service.

    ReplyDelete
  42. leaderboys - I saw the dusty rose maisie in the store, which I was excited about since I had wanted to purchase it. I wasn't terribly impressed with the color, unfortunately. I still tried it on just in case, and I didn't like the color on me either. It was too dark, I think, or maybe it was muddy. It just wasn't very flattering on my fair skin. I wish the color were lighter or brighter. HTH!

  43. I missed the update by a few minutes on Tuesday, was also a few minutes late on Wednesday, and was closer to the mark today, but still things were already gone. I tried really hard to find something to buy during the promotion, but I didn't succeed. I am looking for one jacket in particular--this morning they had every size except mine! I'm betting it will pop up in my size tomorrow or the next day, after the promotion is over.

I'm trying to feel better about things by telling myself that now I can spend my money on new spring stuff with my red card.

What is the deal with the plackets on the argyle cashmere cardis? I noticed yesterday afternoon that they are way down in price already. Is it possible they are more attractive in person than it appears?

    ReplyDelete
  44. FYI, Boden just sent an e-mail saying that their special 25% off promotion (with free shipping & returns) has been extended for another day because they had web site issues last night. If only JC was so courteous to its customers.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Did the site already update today? I think it happened around 10:45 yesterday...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anon 10:16,
The site updated once for sure already. I checked at 8am Eastern and it was updated.. must have been done before that because many were already sold out. There were like 971 items.

But who knows.. it may update again during the day like yesterday.

  47. When I saw an HHF jean in indigo pop up in my size I had to grab a back-up pair. I can no longer live without these jeans in my wardrobe!!
But then I went and added a deco-dot cardi (I think that was added to the sale just today??) My bad!

  48. Just bought a grey tee for me and the cutest Madras jacket for my son. I'm excited he can dress it up or down for our Easter activities! Hope he likes it.

  49. Paperbag Princess,

The deco dot cardigans were added to the sale section later on yesterday. There were two updates yesterday. I know b/c I ordered twice yesterday as a result of stalking the site.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The funny thing is, I bet tomorrow, things will mysteriously 'pop up' in the sale section.

  51. I placed two orders over the past couple of days.... the library shawl cardi, the lattice cami, the patent cate slingbacks, 2 meringue sleeve tops, the solid 3/4 sleeve stretch shirt, chino cocktail capri, cafe capri, and pintuck dress. Saved a pretty decent amount of $$ with the 30% off, even after the shipping charges.

    ReplyDelete
  52. At first I attempted to avoid this sale, but I kept thinking...30% off? 30%???? That is a rare thing indeed. So I bit the bullet on the gateau skirt in champagne. I've really wanted this skirt ever since I tried it on about a month ago.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hi Everyone - This may be old news, but I received a card for $25off a purchase of $125 (I think those are the amounts!) in my latest catalogue.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well, I bit the bullet one last time, and purchased the leather cate slingbacks in black, and the Cashmere argyle vest in heather natural graphite.

    ReplyDelete
  55. stacy - I would buy the cashmere now because the prices are really good. In my office, cashmere is too hot in the summer even when the AC is blasting. But I can wear it in early spring. I wore a cashmere/wool blend sweater to work today and I'm already hot.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I decided to go ahead and order the victoria ruffle in orange (cerise)
The CS rep was so nice, she put a note on the account that I could return the shirt if the color didnt work for my skintone.
    $51 total w/ shipping

  57. I ended up buying the cashmere professor cardigan and the v-neck cashmere sweater.

i really need to put myself on a shopping ban.

i haven't even been to my b&m yet to use my red card and i've already blown my march/april clothes budget.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I bought a 1920's purple colored dress. Very cute. It has buttons on the back. I woke up this morning to a LOT of inventory though.

    ReplyDelete
  59. are the items that are on sale online also on sale in the store? i bought the deco-dot cardigan a couple of weeks ago at full price and now I'm seeing it $59 plus 30% off online. i think i'm going to try to get the sale price and use my 25% off card; but, if it's still full price in store i'll just return it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. i was at the mall the other day and the sale was small with no additional anything off..

    ReplyDelete
  61. I was very happy with my results from this sale. I was able to get the Silk Georgette Pleated Tank in Light Pewter, the Cotton-Cashmere Waterfall Ruffle Cardigan in Light Pewter, and the Henna Graphic tee all for $104.29 plus shipping and tax. Pretty good if you ask me!

    ReplyDelete
  62. The poor quality cashmere sweaters are not worth the price even with the 30% discount.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Stacy - I have the cashmere tee and have worn it year round. Obviously not in the hot summer sun, but in office situations where there is a controlled temp, it worked.

Gwen - I have the Victoria in cerise and it looks great w/a triple stand of pearls if that's your thing. The pearls very easily tone down the color. So when you get it, try it with different necklaces or a cardi over it as well as on its own. Hope it works. It's beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  64. anon, some prices are different instore, but you can price match (and use the 25% off on top of that) if you print the page from the website. I am actually just getting home form doing just that! I did a price adjustment from buying the ruffle top jersey dress on Sunday. The SA was very polite and nice about it! HTH

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'd say TTS to slightly tight on the library shawl cardis. I tried on instore last week, and pulled the trigger yesterday AM when the price went down. I was also wondering if anyone's handwashed or gentle cycled theirs yet? TIA

    ReplyDelete
  66. I called yesterday to get a price match on an order i placed 2 days before the 30% popped up and they said it clearly states the 30% is moving forward, not backwards. But....she did it for me as a "one time" courtesy...probably because I told her how wonderful and nice she was.

  68. Not buying anything.

PSA: Jcrew outlets had the Sanur dress on sale last weekend, $39.99 in that teal color (which is currently OOS on the jcrew website), slate grey, a pink raspberry color, and black. I was able to get one $39.99 + 15% off student discount. They are the cotton + spandex ones - not sure what the in-store ones are made of. And who knew the student discount worked at the outlets too?

    ReplyDelete

  71. It's a Southern Thing - The J Crew at South Coast Plaza (CA) had a lot of tights yesterday. I didn't look through the sizes and colors, but it might be worth a call.

Dani in CA - I tried on the Paige heels in gold at my B&M yesterday and I think they are still dressy even with a wood heel. The heel is light enough that the fact that it's wood isn't obvious, but it also makes the heels casual enough to wear dressed down too. I think they're very versatile in that sense. And they seemed to run a bit small, I sized up from 7.5 to an 8.

Anon @ 11:46am - the dot deco cardigan is marked down to $59.99 in the stores I visited yesterday. Brea Mall (in CA) had quite a few if you (or anyone) is still looking.

I didn't buy anything this time around, but I'm looking forward to the JCA exchange in a few weeks for all the things don't fit everyone who did get stuff!! :)

  72. Thanks for the info re the teachers discount. I was told when I bought stuff yesterday it does not apply to final sale. After reading this thread, I called back today and asked if they could apply it. The CS rep did but told me that I should not have been allowed to use the free shipping code and the %30 at the same time and that the CS rep I dealt with yesterday must have been confused. I spent over 400 bucks yesterday and it seems peculiar to me that I should not have been eligible for the free shipping. Has anyone else encountered this?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anon @ 2:06pm:

You can't combine promotional codes, so they shouldn't have given you 30% off final sale AND free shipping, regardless of how much you spent.

Having said that, if you are a student or teacher, they should have allowed you to combine 30% off final sale with the 15% educator/student discount.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Anony@2:06

No you are not supposed to use two codes such as free shipping AND the 30% off. Nor are you allowed free shipping AND the educator/student discount.

The only way to use two codes if it is not a global promo: You can use the 30% off final with the educator/student discount.

    ReplyDelete
  76. How about a discount code for the college mom who pays the bills? Does this selective discount rub anyone else the wrong way? Seems the teachers and college students complain a bit too much about not being able to double dip on discounts.

  81. OT, I finally heard back from J Crew regarding the watercolor skirt in the Marie Claire magazine. It is item number 14864 and will be available some time this month. There is also a boat neck linen top (14832) with the same pattern, though the CS rep said that the top is more green than pink, which should also be available some time this month. They complain about the FS yet they go friggin crazy shopping from it.

  92. 10:06 Anon re argyle cashmere cardi: Saw in store -- beautiful sweater. The placket doesn't look as weird in person as it does in the catalog. The lavender/stone/salt argyle cardi is especially gorgeous. Am considering ordering but since I already placed an order yesterday should probably not buy any more sweaters!!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. I agree with anon at 3:43

Everybody just needs something to complain about. For example people are still not happy with the 30 percent off they want FS, but then when they have a FS promo they are mad because there is no percent off. And the whole student/teacher discount thing on top of a promo. It's never ending.

If people don't like the promo's from J Crew....just stop shopping there it's that easy. Plain and simple.

  95. One again, I will repeat...people are not complaining. People wanted clarification.

You guys--that are jealous of teachers! (the hardest job on earth next to being a mother (as Oprah would say) You guys, need to stop your complaining b/c no one else is.

Are jealous of teachers getting an additional discount. Go teach in a high poverty school for the day as I did for 11 years. You won't complain anymore. I love my students...don't get me wrong. Silly, jealous people.

  96. And sorry for any typos or errors.....I am sick at home with a cold:(

  99. Have any of you adult ladies bought girls shoes? Those Martine ballet flats are super cute, and I do have a wide foot...Thoughts?

  100. Ok, I think I'm going to break down and place an order. Victoria cami in cerise, library cardi in pewter and maybe the Chiffon pleated cardigan in honey. What do you think about the honey color? Is it really bright

    ReplyDelete
  101. HI,
Does anyone have a review of the cotton cadeau cardigan?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Collegemom, have your kids place the orders with their college e-mail addresses. Problem solved!

  103. P.S. J. Crew doesn't offer the student/teacher discount to be nice. It's all about marketing, and students and teachers interact with a whole bunch of potential J. Crew customers every day. Every time someone compliments my jacket and I say it's from J. Crew, they get a free advertisement. Well worth the 15% to them.

    ReplyDelete
  104. KBear - I have the chiffon pleated cardigan in honey, and no, I wouldn't say it's bright. I think it's a soft mustard shade, not a blaring yellow. I'm really happy with it. Hope that helps. :)

I was at the Walnut Creek, California store yesterday and they had the Starfish suit, I saw the Small and Medium bottoms there on sale for 29.99--I know they were left last night, I bought the large in the top and bottom:)

Hope this helps! They are really nice at that store.

  106. Well, I actually triumphed yesterday over the Web site. I logged on and they had the cloud necklace "sold out."

So I called CS and said they needed to take it off. However, the agent found out there were a handful of them left.

Long story short, I got my extra 30% off and free shipping.

    ReplyDelete
  107. BTW - everyone who has bought anything of any amount at JCrew should be sent a 25% off card. I just don't like this type of "exclusive".

Thanks anon, I will order my clothes with my son's .edu email, do you think it will work?

They have 38 boxes to unload with new merch. tomorrow.

  110. College Mom - after you place your online order, send an email from the .edu account (or have your son send it) and then J Crew will credit your account back the 15% after your purchases have shipped.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Are there any (online only) deals left on the website? I was at my local B&M and had the greatest experience shopping with the red card. It's so nice to not have to pay for shipping. Really lovin' J.Crew right now :)

  112. CollegeMom,

I'm a different Anon, but all I have ever had to do to get my educator discount is to send an email from my .edu address (which is not the email I used to log in or order from J. Crew) requesting the 15% discount. You do this *after* you place an order, just be sure to include your order number. They will issue a credit to your card. You shouldn't have a problem!

  113. Anon @ 3:37 - I received the pansy jacquard pencil skirt yesterday, it is gorgeous. I feel that it fits tts, I ordered my usual size 2and it fits great.

I stopped by the 17th & 5th b&m in NYC tonight to return a bunch of stuff, and I picked up the following that was marked down in store (used my 25% off card):

Solid silk garland cami (11527) $59.99 white sand only

Also, all full priced shoes are 25% off, plus you can get an additional 25% off with your red card coupon. I bought the fiona two-color T-strap sandals in green for $55.12 total.

    ReplyDelete
  114. OT: Has anyone try to use red card 25% off in store? I did use it today, but the lady there said I couldn't combine with student discount, is that apply in every store?

    ReplyDelete
  115. I just placed an order for the library shawl cardigan. When I asked if I could combine the 30% off with the educator discount, she said no, but when I told her I've been allowed in the past, she said she'd check, and a minute later, she said it was fine! I'm so glad I didn't accept her first response because the extra 15% off dropped me down to the next shipping level.

  116. Thanks anon 8:01 and 8:05 for info on how to receive student .edu discount. We will give it a try.

  121. Cotton cadeau cardigan review:

Design is very nice--paillettes make it look pretty fancy though so that will reduce number of occasions to wear it. Also, while I love the sequin style down the placket and collar, the sweater fabric itself is an extremely thin cotton. It kind of cheapens the look of the cardigan, esp. when it is priced at over $100. They could have just used the same fabric as the jackie cardigans and it would have been fine, but it is a really thin, cheap looking cotton. Mine is getting returned tomorrow.

  122. Is this code for the east or west time? Can i still use it? thanks

No you shouldn't. You cannot offer JCrew the free marketing they can get using teachers and students. Really. Think you are entitled or something just b/c you stay at home....many women do....

    ReplyDelete
  125. No it is not clarification, people want clarification every single day from CS on this issue, they keep pushing their limits to try to get something for nothing, and say I just want clarification, when in fact they are trying to get around the rules, and went CS turns them down they go WAAAHH they won't give it to me what a bunch of babies. Please note before the flaming comments begin I am in favor of the educators discount, not just the constant complains when people trying to bend the rules on a consistent basis get turned down.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Why would anyone get themselves in a tizzy over others moaning and groaning and harrassing CS for exceptions? Its really not worth the back and forth, mean comments nor will it change anyones behavior. Humans do what they do. It seems like your all complainers but about different issues. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  127. 8:21, you're right. I, personally like to complain when people use the word 'your' when they were grammatically supposed to use 'you're'.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Thanks very much, Anon @ 4:44. My store does not carry cashmere, so your input was appreciated. I bought the lavender one, and am hoping I love it. I couldn't turn down the extra 30%!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Anon at 11:28: You're welcome! I hope you like the cashmere sweater as much as I do. When I put it in my cart, I noticed it did not say "final sale" in red. Did this happen to you also?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Anon at 3:12 am

What a bunch of BS.....because you give more marketing. Please..... I see about a millon moms a day and shopping is what we talk about.

All teacher discounts should be banned, it makes teachers think they are so high and fricken mighty. Trying to always get something for nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Hi Anon@12:25--I ordered over the phone, and when I received the confirmation e-mail, the sweater was flagged in red as final sale. If I absolutely hate it, I'll see if I can return it since I had no chance to see it or try it on before ordering. It looks like it is a bit tight-fitting, and also a bit see-through (I've never ordered their featherweight cashmere). But I immediately noticed it in the pile of sweaters in the last catalog, so I definitely love the color like you do, it was just the placket that threw me for a loop! I'm thinking it makes it more interesting and fashionable than just a regular argyle cardi :) Thanks again! Have a great day!

I'm sure that your children's teachers would love to hear that you appreciate their work so.

Please know that while it is great that you can afford to stay at home with your children and while I'm sure you're a wonderful mother, I don't think there is any question of whether you (or SAHMs in general) or an educator is more *deserving* of the discount.

That said, if you have problems with the way JCrew markets itself/sets up its promotions, perhaps you should apply for a job in that department :) There's just no need to be nasty to teachers or other ladies who happen to work.

    Have a good day!

    - Not a SAHM or teacher

    ReplyDelete
  133. Did you not just say in your previous post that teachers are more deserving of the discount because they can market better? I am a little confused.

Then in your second post say there is no question between a SAHM and teacher who is more deserving of the discount??

    ReplyDelete
  134. Z-

I'm the anon at 1:30 PM. I only posted once and this will my second and last time because I'm not looking for a fight or to take this thread any further afield from the original topic :)

Sorry if I wasn't clear earlier, but I personally, truly believe that teachers are more deserving of an additional percent off. Why so? They educate/discipline/take care of/watch over/etc. every mother's children, not only your children or your friends' children. Even though they provide such a valuable service to you (and society, even), they're severing undervalued in terms of salary. So, it really is just smart marketing practice- economically speaking- and gracious on JCrew's part to give those folks a discount.

It is human nature to want to get the best value possible, so if teachers, students, and others think that JCrew's policy is unclear about what kind of promotions can be combined, I think it is perfectly valid for them to try to get them combined/applied and for them to complain when the policies aren't consistent. I say more power to them for being so persistent!

In any case, I'm going to leave off here. I do think that the work you do is valuable as a fun time mom. But please, don't feel that you have to put down teachers as "wanting something for doing nothing" or as "haughty" because they're doing something just as important, if not more so, than you are.

    Have a good one!

    - Anon 1:30 aka not a SAHM or teacher

  135. Whoops, just noticed you didn't use the word "haughty" but instead "high and fricken mighty." But you get what I mean :)
