  1. Alexis,
This is completely off the topic but I just wanted to comment that it seems even the most innocuous subject or topic here is completely misconstrued and turns into a verbal boxing match. Some comments are just down right ugly. The Whitney dress review is the perfect example. It's amazing the anger that people have. I wish they would just stay away.
Love this blog and all the helful and fun comments. I wish we could exclude certain anons.

  2. Anonymous comment posting will never be disabled on this blog. It has been talked about so many times, but never happens. It how the blog stays alive.

When regular users come, say something that is not liked, they go Anon so they can start talking to themselves. It's very odd.

  3. I agree that things seem to have turned pretty ugly recently--I talked to my husband about this this morning, and he said that most blogs he participates in do not allow anonymous comments, so that people who do this repeatedly can be banned from participating.

I really enjoy and benefit from the positive discussions here, and the helpfulness of most JCAs.

  4. I almost think that certain people are just looking for a "fight" and love the verbal sparring they can start. Pretty sick really.

  5. joangee,

I think you should reconsider what you have started this morning with your comments. I am an anonymous poster but I say nice things so let's not get all "lumpy" and put everyone together and start something this morning. Best to say NOTHING IMO.

  6. agree with anon 11:55. i can't believe the first poster chose to open up a can of worms like this. Good Sunday morning to you, too, joangee.

  7. HATE to again be OT but I think this will help some folks and it does, in the end, relate to the free ship :)

Anyone still having problems with forbidden, green screen, not being able to add items to shopping cart, etc? I may be able to help. I contacted JC repeatedly (restarting my router was no good), and, after about 6 weeks, they found a solution: I needed to change some settings on referrer info (yikes) in my antivirus software. I canNOT believe it took it them that long to resolve the issue, and I did NOT spend $ with them I otherwise would have.

However, they have now sent me at $35 gift card for my troubles, and I am MAYBE eyeing the free ship ;) But am still scarred from the IT experience.

Depending on your antivirus brand you can find instructions online to adjust the settings- shoot me an email at tfralish at gmail.com. (Alexis, don't whether this might warrant another post? Maybe just a couple ppl were having on-going web issues) Hope this helps!

joangee: No need to be mean.

  9. Sorry to be OT, but does anyone have the Nolita jean jacket? I saw it at the store and am taken with the pintucks in the front. I got one just like it from babyGap for my daughter last year and totally wanted one for myself. I just don't like the destroyed aspect of the blue, and am somewhat wary of a white jacket with a toddler around, and on, me 24/7. I did like how soft the denim of the blue jacket was, and didn't see the white to compare the feel of the fabrics. Can anyone comment on fabric and if the fit is TTS? I was in too much of a rush to try on. TIA!

  10. Yes, disable anon posting=blog dies.

It's really kinda fun, actually. The verbal spats are comedy gold. Grow a thicker skin, or skip over it.

  11. Hmm, still the $175 minimum for free ship. I have to wonder if J.Crew is actually doing fine because they are not offering the smokin' deals we saw over the holidays. Could it be that the reduced inventory is now in place and they are confident they are in alignment with the decreased demand? I guess time will tell. I have some items in my cart and will likely place an order soon. I don't want my faves to sell out!

  12. Sometimes the sparring comments are funny and honestly, they are nowhere near as bad as some blogs. Often it is one person giving a negative opinion on something and others feel offended as they like the item. So they call them out as rude.

I'm always surprised how little it takes for some people to be offended, or at least pretend that they are in order to get others engaged in their defence. If nothing else, some can feel morally superior by not sounding off and trying to smooth things over. Nothing different than everyday life in the real world.

  13. ^^^^^ Perfectly stated.

  14. As far as blogs go, there will always be complainers and people who complain about the complainers.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jenn, that is an interesting theory. How do you know that people are doing that?

  16. Speaking of anonymous posters, has anyone noticed that J. Crew associates have basically stopped posting on here anonymously or otherwise? I wonder if the company put the word out to them not to say anything on here...I wouldn't be surprised.

  17. I love it's all anonymous posters bashing joangee. Clearly, there was a reason for her to try to reach out Alexis. Everyone except her has commented anonymously here today. Grow up children.

  18. This it totally ot, but I'm debating getting the fresco tunic/djellabah.

Dear FFM, I tried these with the spicy cypress favorite chino pants. They didn't look bad, though the favorite fit pants were snug on the hips and loose at the waist (back gap). I don't know how the fit of the original chino compares since those are online only.(hips/thighs are my downfall--somewhere between hourglass and pear). Any other color suggestions for this tunic? I already have white jeans, some ivory cafe capris. It didn't feel right paired with my dark wash bootcut jeans. I didn't get a chance to try them on with the quarts colored chinos. Thanks!

Does anyone else have this tunic?

  19. et tu Anon @ 6:08. Where's your handle?

I don't mind the nasty comments, takes a lot to bother me personally. It's part of the net, like it or not. People speak their mind when they are anonymous. Fact of life.

  20. Alexis, I remember you once had a post comparing pant cuts at JC. I think you said you were 5'8" or 5'9" with a pear shape (or maybe it was another poster). Anyway, I've tried the city fit and like bootcut or trouser legs, but am tiring of bending down to help the kids at school and having the top ride up and show my back. Have you tried the original fit pants? What was your take on it. It would be great if there was the tiniest amount of stretch to make the chinos more comfortable for an active workday, chasing after the kids, bending down, reaching up, etc. without worrying if skin is showing.

On a side not, has anyone heard of a jean line called Not Your Daughter's or is it Mother's Jeans. Supposedly they look great but with a higher rise.

    Thanks, all!

  21. There are plenty of quotes about people's behavior when they let their guard down:

    A drunk man's words are a sober man's thoughts;

    If a man doesn't think about what he's doing you can be sure he is doing what he thinks about;

    etc, etc.

It's human nature after all. Sometimes we all would like to just let it fly. That's not the intention of this blog but it will happen. Skip over it if you don't like it and if you enjoy the drama, read on.

  22. 7:32. It's me again, sorry for the typos. I'm typing incredibly fast as this is a quick 5 min. break. Now I need to return to my kids.

I'm tall, thus am incredibly becoming more frustrated with the city cut pants/jeans. As much as I like them, I need to have that extra rise. I think my torso length would qualify as just barely being "long."

    ReplyDelete
  23. 7:32, Not Your Daughter's jeans are sold at nordstrom. Give them a try, I think you'll definitely like them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anon @ 7:32 PM

I've heard of those jeans, but never tried them because, at 5' tall, I have more problems with the rise of the jeans being too high than two low. If you are interested in seeing the jeans, I think they sell them online at Neiman Marcus.

I am short and curvy. Jean length for me is always an issue, so I focus on fit around the waist and hips. I buy James Jeans. I have a particular pair right now that I like, but I don't know the style name as I bought them on Ebay for MUCH less than they sell elsewhere. Anyway, they have several styles that have a rise just under the natural waist, which is tapered to minimize the gap. I hope that helps.

As for Anonymous postings, I post as Nichi but everytime I come back to the blog, it makes me re-register to post as Nichi again. So, I post anonymously unless I want to trade something to save me time. Just an FYI why others might post anonimously as well.

  26. Has anyone purchased the Belle handbag/satchel from J Crew? It's an online only bag and wonder if anyone has an opinion on it. It looks like a great classic but I am concerned with the quality. I do not like handbags that are unlined and too heavy and I have very little luck with Jcrew bags. The owen bag soils and stains so quickly and the lining is cheaply made. Please post if you have seen this bag! Thanks

  28. Hi Anon @7:19! The Fresco Tunic is absolutely GORGEOUS! I actually had the opportunity to try it on last month with the white High Heel Flare jeans, and I think your white jeans will be perfect. I didn't get the chance to try the Saturday pants in Mossy Shadow with it, but think the two could possibly work together (I love pink and green combos), so they might be an option for you.

On the Favorite fit pants: have you considered sizing up one to fit your hip/thigh area and then have the waist tailored to fit? That way the pants are sure to fit and flatter your hip/thigh area but won't gap at the waist. I have had some of my pants taken in at the waist, and my tailor charged $7...I know the price will be different depending on where you live.

  29. anon 6:08 reminds me of the classic friends exchange - Phoebe: Oh, hello, kettle? This is Monica. You're black

  30. Susan, thanks for the video. I couldn't get a good reading on the color. I would prefer it smaller, but if it's a nice shade of pink I would buy it.

Anony 8:47, thanks for posting, I'm interested in the Belle satchel as well but I'm concerned it is too large for my lifestyle and the colors too muted. If you get it, please post your opinions. Or IRL photos if possible.

    Have a wonderful week all!

  31. I really wish J.Crew would post more photos of their handbags from different angles, especially open and on a mannequin for size. How can they expect us to purchase a $300 bag without seeing more than one view. Crazy.

  32. i am an associate, and i generally post anonymously because there is a code of ethics and confidentiality agreement that i signed, and don't want any of my comments to unintentionally breach that agreement.

i think it's an unfair to suggest that because business is "bad", there are fewer promotions and "smokin' deals". it wouldn't be possible to stay afloat (especially in this economy!) if the company was slashing prices left and right, and handing out shipping for free. shoppers have become conditioned to expect % off sale, deep markdowns, and inventory levels high enough so that they can wait until the second or third markdown to buy something they really want.

  33. Anon 7:19- re: The Fresco Tunic

I just received it this week and love it! (I really like this print and already own the cardigan and am thinking about the tunic too-eek) I too am unsure what I will wear with it, but so far my Jackie cardigan in Cypress looks fab. I need to figure out the bottom half though...

  34. Anon at 10:28- I agree about customers being conditioned to expect deep discounts. Before Christmas JC was offering up to 50% in store, they also offered many customers the golden 25% off card. I just can't bear to pay full price anymore. Even promo prices are too much. I know things will eventually be marked down further, and if I miss a coveted piece, I think to myself, I didn't have to have it.

JC can still offer % off. BR has been offering great deals off regular priced merch and they have people waiting in line to pay. JC is always deserted. I love JC, but they should offer better deals.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think most like good sales. I get upset when prices go lower within 14 days. Sorry call me spoiled or whatever. I want a price adjustment within that time frame. Seven days is wack! JCrew continues to lower prices on current items at an alarming rate. I don't wear most items for two weeks or longer. I'll take my chances at repurchasing if need be.
The economy will not be getting better anytime soon so I think JCrew should rethink some of their recent tactics. I don't mind the shipping cost on items I can't find locally.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Associate@10:28

No one is asking JCrew to give stuff away but so many comparable companies have great deals right now and at least promos better than free shipping off a $175 purchase...JCrew could do a bit better considering the times...IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anony 10:28 - my comment suggested there weren't the smokin' deals we had seen over the holidays because J.Crew is doing well and has aligned their inventory with demand. Go back and read the comment again.
