Happy Valentine's Day! {celebrating w/ J.Crew?}

I know I have mentioned this before, but I l-o-v-e these posts. It is really interesting to hear what other Aficionadas and Aficionados plan on wearing, since it gives me lots of wonderful ideas for future outfits. :) So for this post, what we are planning to wear on Valentine's Day? :)

Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday this year, so I plan on going casual. I will most likely be wearing my Bella Jacket in Coral, with a solid white v-neck (Item 10662; was $34.00, now select colors $14.99 ), along with a pair of the Stretch Leightweight Denim Trousers (was $98.00, now $59.99), and the Patterned Classic Ballet Flats (Item 10639; $118.00, now $79.99) in Bright Papaya.

What are you planning to wear this Valentine's Day? Are you planning to go "head to toe" J.Crew or parts J.Crew?

  1. For dinner Sat eve, I'm wearing (for the first time) my red watercolor taffeta pencil skirt, the merino Melanie button-cuff crewneck in desert brown, a red-coral necklace that I made, brown leather boots (not JC), and my red coat (also not JC). I know what I'm wearing because I'm going out of town and just packed :)

  2. Cute outfit, Alexis.

I can't believe that shirt was ever $34. I only say that because I have a ton of them and bought them at about $6-10 each on final sale. I am having that problem now in that I want to buy some long sleeve shirts and they are all $25-35 and I just don't want to pay that much.

I don't have a boyfriend so Valentine's Day is just another day this year for me.

I will probably be in J.Crew PJ's that day! Not that I am complaining. They are pretty comfy!

Hope all of you that do have plans have fun!

  3. For me, my (sale) silk Vionette Tank dress in graphite, with a black jewel-button dream cardigan from last year, and a skinny silver belt. Teuta mid-heels from last year. My dream dress, it finally got made!

the next date. . . Penelope Mary Janes in silver/black and snow leopard Harlow, black skirt.

    thanks, designers and supportive aficionadas!

  4. Hmmm. I will be wearing my black Columbia ski pants, white turtleneck and my green Lands End jacket. Maybe my cute grey wool Bolle hat with the yellow polka dots! We will be skiing all weekend up at Lake Tahoe with our kids who have Monday off. But I will be thinking of all you afficionadas who get to wear something fun this weekend!!

  5. Hmmm... I haven't really thought about it yet. I actually just thinking more about what I'm going to wear for the DC JCA meet-up this Friday.
But I'm definitely thinking of wearing my dusty rose spectator pumps and the matching wide belt (thanks to FFM's wonderful polyvore set as inspiration).

  6. ^Oh, I forgot you gals are having a DC JCA get-together this weekend...that sounds so fun! Have a great time and let us know how it goes!

  7. Alexis, i loooove the San Francisco images like the first one in the post. Did I miss a catalog shoot? or perhaps it will be for March? I hope so!

For Vday it depends on the weather, but I'd love to bring out the new mauve BCBG runway collection dress I found at a sample sale this weekend, with a JCrew cashmere cardi.

  8. Aren't you the one planning ahead Alex. I don't even know what I'll wear tomorrowz

  9. We are attending a library fundraiser so I will be wearing my Shimmy dress with Louboutin heels and David Yurman gold/silver/pearl jewelry with a family estate ruby ring.

My MIL is one of the charity organizers and my husband's family are well-known philanthropists in the community. As such we are expected to work the crowd in support of the charity so it won't exactly be romantic and probably not a whole lot of fun. But I expect to finally rock that Shimmy dress for the first time.

  10. My husband and I will be going to our very favorite restaurant again. It's tradition. I'll probably wear my double serge skirt in ochre, a Lauren Moffatt blouse in ivory with gold stitching, gold heels, a multi strand gold necklace from BR...or I may change my mind yet. I do that a lot!

  11. Yes, where did this picture come from? It looks like a new recent one, not a past season.

  12. I am still waiting for my Hammered Silk Laura dress in bright rhubarb to arrive in the mail. I will wear it, if it fits me well - I'm a size 4, but had to order 4P because they were out in a regular size. I am hoping it is not going to be too small on me.. I think it is a perfect color for a Valentine's Day =)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nothing too exciting I have a meeting that day, dark denim jeans, tulip licorie tee layered with a white ls perfect tee underneath.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I will finally wear my bright rhubarb cambridge cable cardigan for the first time. I haven't worn it yet because it's too close to red (which I hate) instead of pink, but I got it on FS :(

  15. Aleixs, LOVE your outfit. I think that I am going to pull out my coral bella as well.... Great idea.....

    ReplyDelete
  16. Very cute Alexis! I love those ballet flats.

OT and btw, LOVE your name :) my oldest daughter's name is Alexis. She's 6. I don't get to "meet" too many adult Alexis's ... do you like your name? (And my 3 year old is Gabriella.)

I think it's cute those of you who already have your outfit selected for vday. I'm still working on tomorrow. :p

    ReplyDelete
  17. I really meant to say, gorgeous outfit ... I had those ballet flats in my head when I said "very cute" lol

  18. Love this topic! I was just thinking about this on my way home yesterday. I'm torn between two outfits: 1, a bright pink pleated silk dupioni skirt, with a black CK merino turtleneck, black tights and round-toe patent slingbacks, accessorized with a long black and white enamel necklace from jcrew (2007); or 2, a cranberry-colored, strapless, bubble hem silk dress from BR, with black tights and satin stilettos. It's all going to come down to how cold it is in DC on Friday night! :) Btw, where can I find the details on the DCJCA meetup? Or is it invitation-only (seriously!)? Thanks for the info, ladies!

    ReplyDelete
  19. OT: Does anyone have the peacock skirt? Is it lined? Someone on another blog said it is NOT lined but the JcRew online description says it is...concerned as I just ordered this!!! Thanks for any help.

  20. Thanks for making me think about this ahead of time! My DH is taking me out to a fancy dinner, so I am going to wear my black Madeline dress with my warm ivory Trixie heels (the snow leopard pattern with the yellow bow). Just like this set, except with different earrings and bag. Happy V-day to everyone, no matter what you are doing :)

  21. The sweater she is wearing in the picture looks a lot like the 'mystery cardigan' that someone found hiding on the J.Crew website.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Actually, I hardly have any pink or red, let alone from jcrew! hmm... don't have any plans yet, but if boyfriend ends up taking me out, I might wear a light pink wool pencil skirt I got from the goodwill (it's cute though!... i think it's ann taylor or BR from several years ago) with jcrew ribbed tights in rust, my new gold lucie d'orsay pumps, and an ivory merino vneck sweater.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with anonymous @ 8:37. It was gigisgoneshopping that had it on her blog. It's item #12281.

    ReplyDelete
  24. jackie from dc: thanks for asking. It's not by invitation only. :) I have been searching for aficionadas and aficionados in the area and thought it would be fun for DC JCAs to get together. Email me at cleo26p at gmail and i'll send you the details.

  25. Alexis- love the Bella in coral- I wish I had one!

I'm driving to Albuquerque this weekend and will probably pack my slate cords with some mixture of pink/papaya/tangerine melange to pair with them. I love mixing these great J. Crew colors. I'll also be taking my new travel trench....cuz I'm traveling....and see if it's warm enough to wear it!

    Happy Day O' Love Everyone!

  26. Going to a play that evening. I haven't really finalized the outfit. I already knew I would be wearing one of several JCrew items: Bright Papaya Clara, Lady Day Bright Poppy or Bright Rhubarb cord slim skirt. I'm planning a reddish brown color palette. I hope the weather is ok for peep toes.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'll be wearing old sweats and an ice-cream stained tee! ha ha. Hubby and I don't really do v-day, but I did get a gift - JC pumps! My fave!

    ReplyDelete
  28. My hubby and I are going to spend the day in the city at the Met and the MOMA and will probably just grab a late lunch at some diner somewhere. The weather is calling for snow showers and I will be on my feet all day so no formal get-up here. Probably my fave cord trousers in dark grey, a white slub cotton cami, and my tartine cardi in the bright poppy color. I will keep warm in my gorgeous navy Shipley coat and- don't crucify me- some grey Uggs. Sorry, sorry, I know they are hideous and go against all kinds of fashion rules but they are so warm and so toasty and anybody who has braved NYC knows how important those qualities are in a shoe! At least I will have some snazzy J. Crew wellie socks on underneath!
    Have a happy day y'all.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am actually celebrating my hubby's bday tomorrow night instead of Valentine's Day (we have done this a few years in row now). I am not even sure if he will remember what this saturday is. Maybe I should remind him? :)

Regardless, I made a polyvore outfit with the Peacock Jacket (maggie shape). Here is the link:

    I hope the link worked!
    Enjoy!

  30. I'm going to wear my double serge pencil skirt in ivory, a red cashmere off the shoulder sweater from Ann Taylor, and my J.Crew black patent Alessia mary janes. I haven't decided on accessories yet. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Fun topic Alexis!

My BF and I are going to our favorite brunch spot. If the weather is nice I will probably wear my new Wendy skirt in rose with a white painter tee and a jean jacket. If it is cold I will go with my dark peony turtleneck, jeans and Prada flats.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am going backpacking with my boyfriend on Valentine's Day! I will be wearing Patagonia long underwear, North Face light hiking pants, a t-shirt and a Patagonia down pullover hoodie. Excited!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm not sure what I will wear, but I love the outfit on the model in the picture... so cute

    ReplyDelete
  34. FYI, the cardigan the model is wearing is the Merino whisper ruffle cardigan. If you go to search and type in 12281 it will show that it's available in three colors. hth

  35. we have a family party...I am thinking something with my Tulip Lulu Peep toes. the PERFECT shoe for Valentine's day! I have the chiffon crawford blouse in pink too, so I'll probably pair them together with the storybook charm bracelet and sunburst pendant too. Now I jusdt need to decide on pants or jeans...Fun topic! I love reading what others are wearing and doing for the day!

    ReplyDelete
  36. how's the faille maisey jacket fit?

now that its reduced, its caught my eye.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That jacket caught my eye too! Gigi just did a review of it on her blog, with IRL pics.

  38. I'll be skiing so I will be dressed head to toe in Orage/Sypder/Salamon and of course the best part of all my Dynastar Speed 63 GS skis!!!!

But we may go out to dinner that night with my family... but I actually boycott valentines day every year as I think it is the STUPIDEST and meanest (for those who are single) day of the year. My single friends spend the 14th in tears every year and panicked about it.... Its a holiday I refuse to celebrate... though not gonna lie I do love the Reeces Heart shaped candy (they have more PB in them). Thus I will probably wear one of my old fair isle sweaters from jcrew (its about 5 or 6 years old at this point) I still love it

I hope everyone who does believe has fun celebrating though.

  39. Deni at 9:59: I live in ABQ, and you should be able to wear the travel trench with a sweater underneath. We had snow this morning, but it will be back into the 50 degree range when you are here. Have fun!! Any special plans in the Land of Enchantment??

    ReplyDelete
  40. OT: Martin and Osa is offering 30% off on their Spring collection. I've used this to buy two pairs of jeans for about $39 each. I can't say enough about their slim jeans. Really great quality and awesome fit. They are slimmer than matchsticks (more like the toothpick). Shipping is flat rate $6 and returns are free.

  41. Love your outfit Alexis! The bella jacket is one of my favorites.

For dinner out with DH I am planning on wearing a Black Halo ruffle sleeved, keyhole neckline black dress, black satin McQeen square toe heels, Jcrew Crystal ball drop earrings, and a black satin burberry trench.

  42. jcrewlover - The Crawford & Lulus sound really good together. The tulip Lulus are perfect for Vday.

I think I am going to make steak & lobter tails or crab legs. We usually stay in on VDay. I will definitely wear a true red Old Navy wool cropped swing topcoat I scored last nite for $16!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I meant to say if I go out I will wear the coat. I won't be wearing it indoors. *lol*

    ReplyDelete
  44. gigiofca-thanks!! I love planning outfits. and FFM is so inspiring too. I actually bought about 4 different types of tops/sweaters/shirts just as an excuse to match and wear the lulus...!!!

  45. The photo on this post is from the My Account Home Page on J.Crew. I'm there often enough checking on orders so I recognized it right away. I was glad they finally put up a spring photo, was getting tired of the boucle astrid and unshaven guy pics.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am single and I still love Valentines Day.

    ReplyDelete
  47. We are going out to birthday party at a friend's house. It will be casual so I'm going to wear my crackle metallic mary janes in sherbet, crisp blue matchsticks with sherbet metallic foil belt, perfect-fit long sleeve white tee and my navy Tuesday trench with a blue-green Pucci scarf. It's still fairly cold here so I need a warm layer.

DH totally LOVES the shoes and I know they will get a lot of looks. I really love my Tory Burch shoes but when I wear the metallic mary janes the men just can't stop looking. They look really fresh (cheeky) with the light blue matchsticks. Definitely one of my favorite pairs of shoes this season.

    ReplyDelete
  48. My best friend and I always refer to Valentine's Day as Happy Single Awareness Day- if you are single you are definitely aware of it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I don't recognize that cardigan in the above photograph. Is it a new release from the March collection? If anyone has any more information, I'd love to know!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I looked on the Martin and Osa website and everuthign seemed kind of meh. Am I missing something? Maybe I need more imagination?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am wearing the Ava dress in bright pink with a black belt and heels. I have a very pale pink cardi to top it off if I get a chill. I plan to wear my long hair up, add a pearl necklace and earrings and channel Audrey Hepburn.

We are going out to celebrate on Friday the 13th as DH has to catch a flight very early on Sunday morning.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anon @ 2:49,

Two posters in this thread have already identified the cardigan. Check 9:03 am. and 11:34 a.m

  53. OMG! That picture is in the Marin Headlands!!

I posted a while back that J. Crew was having a shoot in the marin headlands where i work and I've been excitedly waiting to see the results! The shoot is was for the March Catalog cant wait!

    ReplyDelete
  54. We won't be going out, we have a family dinner. One of my husband's brothers is returning from a two-year work assignment overseas. It should be the usual production with SIL and her hubby getting drunk and spilling red wine somewhere, MIL talking constantly all night long and DH and I sitting patiently until we've put in our time and can escape. Such fun!

I will wear my shimmery python pencil skirt and dark peony Jackie twinset with black patent Fluevog Audrey heels. Not that anyone besides DH would acknowledge my outfit, that would require recognizing that there ARE other people in the world.

The rest of you with romantic dinner plans, enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Anon @ 3:47 - I LOVE FLUEVOGS!! I don't have the Audrey's but they are so hot, love the sculpted heel. I have a few pair of Fluevog shoes and boots. They are so comfortable, especially for heels, and they seem to look new for a long time.

    Park your car. Drive Fluevog.

  56. Does anyone know what happened to "the professor" who used to post on here?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Re: The Profesor. Some mean Anons picked on her and she said she was leaving the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't have an outfit planned for V-day yet. I guess I'd like to wear some of my new items like the Nicky skirt and silk/linen sweater. My boyfriend is so last-minute, I'm sure he has forgotten to plan anything. :P

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks, anon about the professor. That is too bad, though, because she was fun. And sadly, it seems to happen a lot lately that regulars get abused by a$$hole anons.

    ReplyDelete
  60. How do the classic ballet flats fit? Are they comfy and true to size?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  61. This board needs to be moderated, one by one the regulars are getting attacked by these kids, who have nothing better to do with their time.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Red gap perfect fit tee, Lacoste headband and jeans. I will be having steak at home with my hubby and two children.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hi Alexis! I love these posts too!

I plan on wearing my latest favorite combo - the
Floral Ruffle Astrid jacket (oranges and pinks) with the new ringspun rosette tee, probably with trouser style jeans, and pink kate slingback flats.

    Suzy

    ReplyDelete
  64. I agree this board needs to be better moderated, but I think it receives so many posts throughout the day that it would be hard for one person to do this.

Several people have suggested that Alexis disable the anonymous function which would probably help and be a very simple fix. Bottom line: despite her "pleas for kindness," I don't think Alexis really cares if certain people are targeted by rude posters just as long as people keep posting coupon codes and ways to "get around the system."

    ReplyDelete
  65. The way to hold people accountable is to only allow people with a blogger account to post, because that way they have to use their identities. Usually when people are held accountable, or forced to identify themselves, they don't make petty, snide comments. And using a blogger account doesn't reveal their actual identity, just the one they use on here.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Duh you have more than 1 moderator.

Your last paragraph is out of line quit posting multiple posts under different names attacking people. Moron!

    ReplyDelete
  67. anon 5:38: They can make up names they have already done this look at the post above yours, and read the last couple of lines, nothing more than a troll.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm anon 5:38. I'm talking about not just disabling anonymous posting (I know, hilarious, since I'm using it) but everything except "google/blogger" People would have to register for an account in order to be able to post.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Anon @ 5:42 PM, I think you are misunderstanding what Anon @ 5:30 PM is saying. If only those with blogger accounts are permitted to make comments, then people wouldn't be able to make up names willy nilly (ie, Anonymous AMD Name/URL buttons would be disabled). I guess they could still do this but they would have to set up a different blogger account for each different name they would want to use. I doubt most of the trolls would be willing to go to the trouble of doing this.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yep I misunderstood sorry about that. I agree it would be the way to go, it is so annoying reading this crap day in day out.

    ReplyDelete
  71. You could make up a new blogger account every time you posted and you don't have to provide any real info to create a blogger account so do you think it would make much of a difference?
Personally, I post as Anon because I'm too lazy to make an ID and I don't like to give out my email, even to blogger. I like to just drop by, read, sometimes post and go. Repeat.
I am not one of the trolls, I come here to discuss J.Crew and find most of the posts to be interesting and often helpful.
Sometimes it is difficult to ignore the nastiness, but if you remind yourself that you are being baited, it can help you to skip it and carry on. JMO

    ReplyDelete
  72. anon 5:38 here again. I seem to recall that I did have to prove a valid email address when I set up my google blogger account. I kept the profile hidden, though, so others can't see the info.

If a valid email does have to be provided, surely it would cut down on the nasty posts, because people would be id'ed by their blogger account names. I'm just so sick of seeing regulars cheap-shotted by petty anon posters. I realize there are many anons. who don't attack others, but then, just use your blogger account. You don't have to sign in every time - just have the computer remember you.

    ReplyDelete
  73. anon 6:04: Something has to be done, I am sick of the nastiness it is driving away good posters, and it is not fair to Alexis.

    ReplyDelete
  74. You do have to provide a valid email, but you could easily sign up for hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc. and provide that address, even though you have no intention of ever using it. So, I guess I should have clarified that it would have to be valid, but not necessarily attached to a real person.

Does that make sense or am I talking in circles?

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think it is part of the internet and we just have to get used to it, much like people flipping the bird on the freeway. Ignore it and don't let it ruin your day. I went to Yahoo answers once and asked an etiquette question. The responses I received almost made me choke they were so vile and hateful and none of these people knew me from Adam. Some people are online solely for the purpose of insulting others and stirring up drama, it would seem. Best just not to give in and ignore.

    ReplyDelete
  76. anon 6:17: If we just chalk it up to being a part of the Internet, the good posters will leave and there will be more crap on this site, and this has already happened to this blog. Mosts boards are now moderated because of the vile nasty comments.

    ReplyDelete
  77. OK 6:22, I see your very valid point. I never went back to Yahoo answers after my experience. I agree, same could happen here and that would be a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Ladies, your outfits sound great...you're all so stylish!

Looks like my hubby and I will be spending our weekend with grad school reading and projects. Fun times! I think we might try to get away for brunch on Saturday, but have no idea what I'll be wearing, but have loved reading all of your ideas!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Going out for dinner on Vday on a Saturday is no fun. It's too crowded and too much stress.

So we will celebrate on Friday instead and I'll probably wear a pair of non-JCrew jeans with the brigh berry painter tee, the matching boucle scarf coat, the black patent Juliet heels and black Jamie bag.

  81. Leslie,

You are too cute! Thanks so much for the weather report for ABQ.

I'm traveling with a friend who is originally from the area, so haven't been a part of the planning so much. I know we are going to a favorite restaurant that has the word "star" in it.

    Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Thanks everyone for sharing your great outfits with us!!! Loving them all! :)

Lynda: That is so cute that your daughter is named Alexis too. I actually like the name. I will "work it" for as long as I can. Although I think "Alexandra" is a beautiful name, I feel as though it is too formal for everyday use. ;)

  83. Oh and I got the image for this post from J.Crew's website. As many of you have mentioned, there are two images (including this one) when you log in.
