A big "thanks!" to JaneEsq. (in this post), who shared with us her great review of this {beautiful} cami!

cami: I love this top! The color is a little less blue than it appeared in the catalogue...I would describe it as light pewter with a touch of black, a great neutral color. I love the detailing around the neckline, kind of gives off an Egyptian vibe, as well as the versatility of this top. I would wear this under a suit or going out.

The cami actually fits pretty TTS. I usually take a 2 in JC camis (Keep in mind, I'm not exactly built like Pamela Anderson here). It certainly wasn't as tent-like as the lydia or elizabeth camis. My experience with JC camis is that the fit is perfect on the shoulders and hips, but slightly blousy in the mid-section. This effect was less apparent with the lattice cami.

Just as I was rejoicing about this top, I saw a SNAG in the lower right corner of the top. Sigh. This might simply me the nature of silk habotai, but I am sending it back b/c if I am paying full price for an item, I want it to be
in perfect condition.

I hope this description helps any prospective purchasers! Have a wonderful day!

"Thanks!" again to JaneEsq. (in this post) for her review! :)

What are your thoughts on the Lattice Cami (do you like/dislike the style, design, fabric)? Are you considering or already have purchased this top? Have you seen this top in-person? If so, please share with us your reviews too! :)

  1. I fell in love with this cami the first time I saw it. In general, I am glad JC is finally starting to make wearable camis on a consistent basis. Some of the designs last spring were either too low cut or too thin -- absolutely unwearable IMO (Elizabeth halter excepted). At least with the latest designs I can wear a strapless bra without worry -- and I am an "A" cup. I love the colors of the Lattice -- almost metallic. Very sophisticated

  2. I like this one more than the similar one from earlier - the vita perhaps? I'd still need to try it on to make any final calls though. :)

  3. Personally, I am the opposite as far as I do not like the Egyptian vibe. I think it is very strange looking. I have many JCrew camis but this one just kinda makes me smile and say, "What were they thinking...?" Anyway, I know others like it...that's fashion for ya:)

  4. Not for me. The lattice looks a bit tacky for me. If I want a simple cami, I prefer the Vita. If I want to stand out, I prefer the Victoria. This one is just neither here nor there.

  5. I'm undecided on this one right now...will have to see it IRL and try it on to make a final decision. BR has been featuring *The Fringe Necklace* on their jewelry homepage: Click Here , so this seems to be the J.Crew version of *fringe*, but without having to wear a seperate jewelry piece to accomplish the fringe effect.

  6. I'm not crazy about the look or the colors of this item, it is definitely a pass for me. I'm waiting for the cami that was featured in a previous post (Annie?), the one with the petals on the neckline and button front. I think the buttons will allow it to be more fitted. A lot of the camis are blousy because you need room to pull it on and if the fabric does not stretch then there must be room.

    Thanks for the review JaneEsq!

  7. Same here. I love these style of tops BUT I dislike the detailing on this particular one. I would feel like a LION in it. LOL. That is what it reminds me of, a lion's mane. ROFLMAO

  8. Actually...I fell in love with this cami the first time I saw it too. I feel like the sharp lattice design contrasts beautifully with the femininity (don't know if I spelled that right) of the silky fabric and flowy shape. I even want one in every color. I never thought of the Egyptian vibe but I like that idea.

My problem with JC clothes in general is that I'm a "D" cup and I feel like most of JC's things don't cater to that. The even bigger problem is that I'm petite and if I didn't count the chest area i would probably wear a size 2 or 4 but instead I have to wear 6, 8, or 10 (because of the inconsistent sizing). For example, I bought the lady day coat in a size big enough to fit my chest but still in petite so the sleeves and length weren't too long..but it can make me look boxy at times.
The sweaters are the easiest to do because they stretch...I wear an XS.

I'll still continue working around the sizing because I love JC clothes.

If anyone has any tips/advice please let me know! Thanks

  9. I loved the lattice cami in the catalogue and ordered it in shell. I really wanted to love the top, but unfortunately I didn't and had to return it. The silk was more see-through than I can handle for work [could see skin color bra and distinct color line between black pants and stomach]. I also thought that the neckline came in too much for me to wear under a suit or cardigan, i.e. the cut of the neck is more like a necklace than the cherie tops.

However, the actual "lattice" part of the shirt was very pretty in person. The pieces were tacked down where they connected with the top and definitely dressed up the look. As for fit, the shirt is more fitted than the cherie, as others noted.

In sum, while I can't wear the shirt in shell, I would still consider trying it in a different color because I really did like it overall.

  10. I am toying with the idea of ordering this cami in the amber color, but I can't bring myself to pay full price for almost anything since I know it will likely go on sale. I'll wait.

  11. I like this cami, but with most JC camis, I will have to see how it looks on before deciding 100%. For instance I loved the Golden Roses cami, but unfortunately I had to return it because it was way too blousy on me.... so I will be staying away from all Cherie camis. But, I do like the amber color, so I will try it at some point, but not a "must have" for me right now.

  12. I love the cherie camis but this one is a pass for me. I returned it yesterday - it made me look like the hunchback of notre dame.

  13. This cami looks like piper tank just with different detailing at the neck. I have 2 pipers and love them. I really like this one too and cant wait for it to go on sale!

  14. I haven't tried one cami that works for me at JCrew. I'm 5'5" and a small 0. These types of tops are too big, and the armpit holes tend to hang low to show edge of bra strap. Anway, it's good to hear this is running TTS. I've been tempted to try petites but then it could be too short. I like the top, and the colors. More than the Victoria actually since that was HUGE on as well.

  15. This is the only top I fell in love at first sight when the Spring collection came out. As much as I would like to strategize my spending better this year, I could not resist the delicate design and the pretty colors so I pulled the trigger (and killed my wallet)! ;)

In terms of the fit, it is a TTS cami which I am very very happy about. I also really like the cutout shoulder neckline. I could see myself wearing the giraffe cami of similar neckline too but with a bow.

The colors are ok. I would have adored the top more if the colors were true to what are shown on the website. The amber is "cornsilkish" and the grey is a few shades lighter in real life. The cami kind of lost a little of its magic but still cute enough to dress down and elegant enough to dress up with a statement ring or bracelet. I would also have loved to see a little more light reflective effect on the fabric.

Agree with Jane on the lines. The associate in store said she would not bother exchanging it as it is the nature of the fabric and there may be even more lines on the next one. I decided I would wait on this when my size becomes available again, instead of being on the waitlist.

Overall, I would give it a 3.5 stars (5 stars system)!

  16. Erin, this cami is heaven to anyone of size 0/ XS. I ordered the petite 0 and everywhere fits perfectly - in fact the best fit among all my JC purchases during the past few seasons. This petite is for more slender frame with moderate bust and around our height.

  17. I was going to return the cami because of the snag and reorder it in the same color. However, the SA said that snag was probably reparable and she would re-sell it to me for $30 and then allow me to return it if I changed my mind! How amazing is that? The snag is really tiny and unnoticeable so I took her up on the offer. The manager even offered to send it to the store's tailor free of charge.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh Jane, is that serious? What does that mean reselling it to you for $30?! Perhaps I should ask for the repair service too?

    ReplyDelete
  19. oh and by "re-sell" I mean she gave me a damaged item discount. I guess they have some kind of chart and when there is a defect in a garment they show what price the SA can charge...so it ended up being around $30.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think the fringe makes it look like part of a cavewoman costume.

    ReplyDelete
  21. That is very nice of the SA! Mine are long and visible across the mid waist and the lower part of the amebr one. But of course I do not want to go in asking for discount unless they offer :(

Chiffoncupcake: Congrats on the cami! Also, thanks for your great review. :)

  23. I haven't tried this yet, but J.Crew clothes not meant to be very form fitting haven't fit me in AGES! Their slimmer fitting clothes look "normal" on me. J.Crew vanity sizes as much as Banana Republic, yet unlike Banana Republic, they have not bothered to add size 00!

    ReplyDelete
  24. yeah, that's strange... speaking about iconic across the globe, no standard size asians would fit in these clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks, Alexis. I loooove this "support group"!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anon 3:17 - I was wondering how other Asians were faring. Sadly, I swim in most of JC's Regular 0s.

    ReplyDelete
  27. ^ P.S. And one of their Women's Designers is Asian! You'd think she'd do some lobbying to get some sizes that fit the smaller frame. . . .

    ReplyDelete
  28. To Anonymous on Jan 12 @ 9:12 pm: Do we know what she looks like, or just that she's Asian?

I'm the smallest in my family at 5'2" and a Banana Republic 00P. Most people in my generation are closer to 5'4"/5'5" and a size 2 or 4. And I'm the one born and raised in a western country!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Cynthia - LOL. I'm very tiny. I think the Asian Women's Designer is the same one that is pictured on the Cardigan promotion page.

  30. Her clothes are huge on her! No idea what size she's wearing, but still.

    ReplyDelete
  31. ^ Yes, she looks totally shapeless. Not a good look. Done right, I think the menswear look is cute. But she sized up one too many.

  32. I feel like someone has to say something nice about this top. So here I go...Thank god for another cute top in PETITE! I got the arker grey color and it is beautiful, lighter than on the picture though. It fits someone small frame really well. I am 5'7" and 0, 0P , and this lattice top and Victoria are the only ones that actually fit. Elizabeth and Lydia were shapeless and unflattering while this one actually looks good on. The colors are really pretty and go with all the bright cardigans. I do agree about the snags, just like Quinn top this one is prone to snags. I will probably end up getting another one on sale but for once I am totally happy and dont regret paying full price.

  33. I bought this cami in light pewter, and I love it! Actually, its the first JCrew cami that doesn't look enormous on me. I ordered the 0P and 2P, and the 2P was a better fit overall in the bust area. It is a bit blousy in the midsection, but not as much as other camis I have tried. I don't find it to be see-through, and it looks nice with my suits and light pewter Jackie cardi. Overall very happy with this purchase. I think the neck is beautiful, but I can see how it might look weird on some people. Actually, this look works much better for me than most ruffled items!
