J.Crew: Take An Additional 30%-50% Off Fall Sale

"Thanks!" to all those who shared that J.Crew is offering an additional 30% off their online sale merchandise with promo code EXTRA30. This offer expires 11/8/08.

Also, a big "thanks!" to several members who shared with us that their local stores are offering an additional 50% off their final sale (which ends today). So most likely, your local J.Crew is offering something similar too! ;)
  • 50% off at Palo Alto store ("thanks!" goes to Cindy)
  • 50% off at Richmond, VA store ("thanks!" goes to Susan)
  • 50% off at King of Prussia store ("thanks!" goes to Alexandra)
  • 50% off at Michigan Ave (Chicago) store ("thanks!" goes to Tracey)
  • 50% off at Rockefeller Center (NYC) store ("thanks!" goes to Jeff)
  • 50% off at Westport, CT store
I am sure there will be some great deals to be had this season! I can't imagine what post-holiday sales will be like. ;)

Did you get any items with the additional 30% off? If not, are you planning to wait to see if there are better deals (or new merchandise)?

  1. is it just me, or is the code not taking all of the 30% off =(

i guess i should call CS.

  2. Suilove,
No, it's not you. I placed a call to customer service minutes ago with this same question. They told me that the 30% off only applies to those items in the sale section ending in .99 at which point I politely asked "How are customers supposed to know this?". The rep. replied "In the small print it says that the discount applies to sale items only, not promotional items. Sale items end in .99, the rest are considered promotional items. To which I politely replied again, "How are customers supposed to know this?" The rep. replied "Yes, ma'am we've gotten many calls about this this morning and we've been told to tell customers that the discount only applies to merchandise ending in .99
I hung up fuming. Is this just an awful way to treat customers or am I missing something? J.Crew just continues to dangle the carrot.

  3. The yellow Clea Jacket is so cute- can anyone tell me how Clea fits? TIA!!

  4. I ordered the refined-serge pencil skirt in sea salt, the patent-leather Sonia clutch in sea green, the C'est La Vie tee, and a pair of kelly green Martine heels ($55!). I'm holding out hope on the Sonia clutch as it was cancelled off a previous order, so we'll see.

  5. In the past they haven't had promotional items in the sale section, which made things a lot less confusing!

I did, however, just order the Lyndsey dress (petite 6, rich aqua) and with the discount, my grand total came to $57 and change.

  6. J.Crew, if you are out there, we are begging you to just stop playing with our minds! The above noted sales policies take advantage of customers who trust that the noted percentage will be taken off of their orders. Additionally, not everyone follows a blog like this one. How is one to know the difference between sale items and promotional items if it's not noted on the website. This is deceitful to customers and sounds like it borders on being illegal. If B&Ms can't get away with selling items for higher prices than the signs indicate, how can websites get away with it. I am going to approach my local attorney general for some answers on this one.

  7. some how the black metallic boucle clea is there again--hard to tell if full price--strange. I searched "clea" and saw it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Aubrey jacket is already on sale!!

  9. OT-
BTW Noticed J Crew-aholics is going to preview catalog Dec 2008

  10. The black Clea is still available at full price-no discount.

  11. I was doing a search for J.Crew blogs and came across this one and another blog.

I love them! I didn'tknow that everyone loved J.Crew like me.

Anyway, the other blog, www.jcrewaholics.com, has the new holiday catalog posted!

  12. Yes, this sale vs. promo items thing is completely ridiculous. If on the sale page it says 30% off, then the items that show up under sale should be 30% off. There is no justification for such confusing tactics.

    ReplyDelete
  13. What is up with the Carrie coat priced at $275? Last week I ordered it for $225 but I have to return it b/c it is too small and reorder again. Now I have to pay $50 more......

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am just really disgusted with JCrew and the confusing prices on sale vs. promo. Yes, they can charge what they want but I feel like this is deceptive when it is clearly not explained online...

Sorry but I LOVE and ADORE JCrew but sometimes they just really make my blood boil and I don't buy from them for a while...

I am going to sit this one out:)

  15. The other blog only has 3 items from the Dec catalog up. And once again, it's obvious that yet another cute jacket will be offered in 'Jenna Colors' and a neutral. Ugh. Can we PLEASE utilize OTHER parts of the color spectrum Jenna? All you have to do is look at the available colorsin the clearance section to see that we all don't want to dress like you.

  16. i learned this 30% off didn't work on the promotional items when i tried to get the hip slung jeans this morning.

then i tried free shipping and it's gone too.
    blah.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I just purchased the Petite Whitney silk faille dress in Espresso. $10.50 shipping though is just plain ridiculous..No other website has shipping this high on items for that price. Oh well let's hope it fits.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sale items are also an extra 50% off at the Michigan Avenue store in Chicago.

    ReplyDelete
  19. iheartjcrew, just call cs and say you need to exchange the coat for a diff size. They should honor the previous price you paid.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought they would add more items to the sale section before they offer us an additional 30% off....

I am not going to go on a mad shopping spree just because some of the items are now cheaper. Add something new to the sale section to get me interested- 2 bag styles on sale??? Come on....

    ReplyDelete
  21. I ordered the watercolor schoolgirl skirt (deep atlantic)last night. I've had it in my cart for a few days and decided to order it once the coupon hit. I was also considering a pair of cords (on "promo") but I'm glad I decided against them since they aren't really 30% off!

Also, I'm sorry to drag this on, but I agree about shipping. It is crazy! Before the 30%, my skirt was $10.50 to ship and after the coupon it was $8.50. Obviously, the skirt doesn't weigh more or less based on the price! Someone else mentioned flat shipping a while back...I think that would be a brilliant move by JC (and I'm sure they would still make money on shipping). I was considering ordering the Art Deco tank this morning, but I don't want to pay another $10 in shipping and CS won't add it to my other order. Bummer!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am "interested in a few items but they don't end in .99 so I am passing b/c they are not an extra 30%.

I just ordered the Melanie on Halloween and it is now on promo so I emailed for a price adjustment. I made money today instead of spending it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Remember the days of extra 30% off and free shipping...

Yes, sorry to drag this on but when it was like that and I remember it just doesn't make me want to buy the items I only like when I would have bought them before...

Now, I only buy what I really want...and that is much less...

    C.

  24. smarty,

    I agree with you 100%

  25. Does anyone elses email say "plus we've added more styles"
    Ha! That's funny J Crew!

    BTW-Anon 11:24 and FYI
The jacket shown in the new Dec catalog on J Crew-aholics blog is actually the Aubrey jacket which is ALREADY on sale! Correct me if I am wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ah, yes you're right. That is Aubrey. How strange that it would be in the December catalog.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, my total was $62.98 with 10.50 shipping before I entered promo code and jumped to $82.08 with $12.50 Shipping after I entered Extra30 at checkout! Why does it have to be so irritating!! I won't be ordering any time soon, its just not good customer service. I'll wait until I can make it to a B&M.
By the way, Rockcenter doesn't seem to be working anymore either.

  28. does anybody know how the Lily turtleneck sweater fits?

    ReplyDelete
  29. The store at Rockefeller cnter is also having an extra 50% off sale items.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I just spoke with CS and got the same line of 'sale vs. promotional.' I was fuming and mentioned the consumer legal rights and quickly received the 30% on non .99 items. Are 1st graders running this company?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I normally think a lot of the complaining is over the top and silly, but I have to agree on this one. This one is pretty scammy. Very bait n switch.

    ReplyDelete
  32. off topic .. but has anyone tried on the Lille coat? I haven't seen it in the stores and i'm interested in it.

    thanks for any help!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Out of those stores offering 50% off, which ones have the biggest selection? Where would you call looking for cashmere sweaters on sale? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  34. IHeartJCrew - instead of processing a straight up return, call CS first and inform them that the jacket is too small, and that you'd like to do an exchange for the same item, but a different size. They should totally honor the price that you paid ($225). I've done this at other stores without a problem. Good Luck!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hi bkp - the Lille is totally cute! Definitely an A-line fit but not too big, and the collar is adorable and not overwhelming like the Dana, for example. The tie does not run around the whole coat, it's just in the front and looks to be more for decoration than anything else. I'd say it fits true to size, because of the "generous" fit you wouldn't need to size up to wear a thick sweater underneath.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Is it just me, or is everyone over the JC sale? Even at 50% I can't find anything I want. Bring in some new merchandise and then I will shop, but I am tired of seeing the same sale items. Thanks for finally posting 30% online JC! :(

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anyone know about the Georgetown store in DC?

    ReplyDelete
  38. It disgusts me how ignorant you people are! Heaven forbid a company attempts to provide a discount to help not only their own sales but the consumers interest as well. You all who complain live should truly be ashamed... your lack of understanding and ability to read makes me wonder how you continue to remember to breath when you wake up in the morning.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Boo! Once again, I was going to order a new bathing suit (like I wanted to the other day before ROCKCENTER was taken away) and once again, I was thwarted by J Crew! Seriously, it's like they don't WANT to move inventory. How the heck are we supposed to know what's on sale vs. what's on promotion when they are all included in the sale section?!

I give up. I'm going to buy a new bathing suit somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  40. GRR, this always happens to me! I placed an order on Monday on all sale items but used the free shipping code. If i email will they give me a price adjustment for the 30%? Or not because i got free shipping? oh J.Crew, its such a love/hate relationship sometimes!

    ReplyDelete
  41. i finally caved in and got myself an andrea in bright rhubarb for $90!!! can't wait for it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. It's also 50% off at the Boston and Cambridge stores.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was able to get 30% off over the phone on coats without any hassle. I was so relieved. Thank you jcrew for honoring the discount.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Nothing interested me at 30% off without FS, but at the B&M in Ann Arbor with the 50% off I found a few good things. Dream Sylvie (I think, it's the empire with three quarter sleeves) dress, some PJ pants and t's for my husband, and random accessories- cute knee socks, a new purse, and a painter t. I used a 10% off from the email promo, which is still running by the way, and got that haul for $80. Too bad I got a few things during the 30% off, but such is life.

    ReplyDelete
  45. 50% off at Cambridgeside Galleria mall in Cambridge, MA as well!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am about to scream...I placed a large several hundred dollar order a few days ago...

I emailed and asked for a price adjustment on a full priced item...

even though order was $700 and I used a $50 gift card they are refunding me in the form of a gift card!!!

I live overseas and rarely order. I don't want that.

I emailed them back that that is not acceptable.

Plus, I used my educator's discount and they are only refunding me as if I did not have that...for example $78 sweater minus 15% = 66.30

Now sweater is $59.50 so should be $59.50-15%= $50.58 but they are only giving me a $7.26 refund (that includes tax) and I am figuring the refund should be around $15.72 plus tax...

    So very mad:(

    ReplyDelete
  47. It seems to me that if the coupon says "30% off Fall Sale," that includes ALL items in the "Fall sale" section. I'm not purchasing anything on principle this time, plus like a lot of you I am bored with the sale section.

The Greenwich, CT store also has 50% off and a pretty big selection (if you can deal with the unfriendly salespeople).

    ReplyDelete
  48. pia and anon -- Is there anything good/new on sale in Cambridge or Boston? I went last Friday and there didn't seem to be much on sale. Debating whether or not to check it out again. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. I emailed corp about the 30% not applying. I said crew customers were getting seriously irritated because most have no way of knowing some items are promo and some items are regular sale and which the code applies to. I asked them to remove the promo items from the sale section.
I quickly received a reply that they are aware of the problem and are working on it. So, I don't think they are trying to piss us off. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon :)

  50. Is it possible to go into a store and use the Red Phone to get a 50 per cent discount on items not in store?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I just want to say that the Rhubarb Andrea is very beautiful! I am sure that you will be very pleased with it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yeehaw, I totally used this code today to buy some sale items that I had placed in my basket a couple of weeks ago. Code worked fine for me.

    Sam

    ReplyDelete
  53. It is possible I believe to use the red phone for things not in the store (I think that is sort of the point). That said, they were very unhelpful for me yesterday trying to use the 50%. They kept saying the items I wanted (all ending in .99 online) weren't final sale and thus could not have the additional percent the store was offering applied. But, the way things are going I probably should have just tried another SA.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I tried using the code on a coat with a price that ended in .00 and also ran into problems. So, I called CS and the customer service rep told me that she was going to honor the discount. Give them a call and give it a try - I got a $300 coat for $210. Woo!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Even though it doesn't have to do with final sale, I noticed the Greta is on promotion for $50 off. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I just received an email back from my PS. She's honouring the extra30 code even though all the items I asked for were on promotion, not on sale. She said that the site was not clear and that's why she's doing it. Great prices for me. Washed cords, a shirt and tie all for around $100. Good stuff J.Crew, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hey Anon @ 1:08

Since you seem so hellbent on sharpening everyone's reading & comprehension skills, why don't you riddle me this: where in the terms of the sale is the consumer shown how to distinguish between 'promotional items' (namely those that end in denominations other than .99c) and 'sale items' (those that do, in fact, end in .99c)?

Or is everyone just supposed to know how to distinguish between 'promo' and 'sale' despite the fact that both promo and sale items are grouped together on the website in the category labeled 'fall sale'?

(Please don't say that the consumer is just supposed to know. Not only does that terribly presumptuous assumption violate a few consumer rights, it also violates the very first rule of any reading comprehension test which, as you should know, is that you are not allowed to bring outside knowledge to the passage/disclaimer that you are asked to read and comprehend).

And, no, I didn't order nothing today despite initially placing a couple of items in my cart. Deceptive advertising, cancelled orders, a largely uninspiring sale section and an unreliable website are just too much of a turn-off.

  58. bpk re: lille coat. I loved it on the website, but once I got it in person, the buttons were ridiculously huge, the a line was not exactly what I had hoped on me, and while it looked good on, I didn't think it was worth the price. I love the neckline, but that's all I can rave about the coat. Spend some extra $ on a lady day or a madeline. The wool pique is horrible, IMO.

  59. Galleria Dallas has quite a few cashmere femme sweaters in hthr wheat, hthr plum, and honey glaze. They may have had more colors but I wasn’t paying that much attention. They also had long sleeve cashmere sweaters in green, orange and blue.

Frisco Stonebriar had lots of velvet Ecoles on sale- honey glaze, sweet papaya, tawny olive, navy, and a couple browns. Also had at least four or five of the navy Double serge Tuesday trench coats.

Both stores have awesome SAs so I’m sure they would help anyone who is interested in any of those items.

    ReplyDelete
  60. skittle @2:28

Once again I agree with you completely...:)

    Just ignore the other anonymous...

I am just frustrated...shopping should be fun! Not something that requires lots of thought!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I will not be taking advantage of the extra 30% off code. I am really irritated with JCrew and the confusing prices on sale vs. promo. I am so glad that I read the blog yesterday and heard about the B&Ms offering 50% off. I have 5 JCs with in 20 min of each other and I was able to get all the items that I wanted for 50% off + 15% student discount + no shipping fees.

    ReplyDelete
  62. If you read this blog and or shop J Crew it has been well documented that prices ending in 0.50 are on promotion, .99 is sale and final sale.

J Crew Guy In Canada: I would not advertise the fact the CS gave you a break it justs creates more complaints.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Congrats to those with stores closeby who got the 50% off!

I won't be taking advantage of the 30% off b/c without free shipping to it just doesn't seem that great...will wait for the bigger sales to come:)

    ReplyDelete
  64. The other blog is going to have the new catalog posted on line tonight. www.jcrewaholics.com

    ReplyDelete
  65. I think Jcrew would make people happier overall by offering consistent discount, whether it be more or less (of course the deeper the discount the better). If the stores can't hold the inventories then ship it to the warehouse and have a overall online sale.

    ReplyDelete
  66. This tricky business with the .99 is really irritating. I don't know why they have the website set up this way. I have never seen anything in writing that says .99 is a sale item. The website used to be so easy to figure out. Why can't they put a red 30% off note on each item that is 30% off and leave the others blank? Are they trying to cut corners? I love J crew but this is seriously testing my patience.

    ReplyDelete
  67. thank you silver lining and Anon at 2:33! you were both very helpful :)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Rockaway, NJ has an extra 50%, and as a consolidation center has merchandise that you might only find otherwise on the final sale page of the website (which, by the way, is taking forever to load at the moment).

    ReplyDelete
  69. Wow, that really stinks re: 0.99 vs non-0.99. I ordered some wide-leg trousers a couple of days ago and I would have loved to have that extra 30%!

I just tried to do another transaction with the same pants to see if the code would take, but now the website is down... maybe someone is fixing the coding!!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. OT: 2 questions sorry if these were asked before but When are we supposed to be getting Dec catalogs in the mail? And anyone know when the website will be updated?
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  71. Can someone please tell me where I can get a Jackie cardi in honey glaze?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I have looked at but never actually left a comment on this blog, however, I too agree that it is difficult to distinguish between "final sale" and "promotion" items. There are items ending in .99, .20, .80, and .50 - and there could be other amounts as well. I don't think this about being able to read the fine print - I'm in a graduate program studying philosophy - all I do is read! So I get that the .50 ending is for promotions, but what about all these other amounts? How is anyone supposed to navigate such a deceptive sale section?

    ReplyDelete
  73. If anyone sees a size 6 or 8 sparkle plaid tweed pencil skirt, please let me know. Many thanks!

  74. sabi,

Exactly! How are we to know what is what???

I love JCrew and 90% of my wardrobe is JCrew but this website mess has just about done me in...I am going to take a vacation from JCrew...be back after the new year. :) Cheers:)

    ReplyDelete
  75. STORES have the December catalog out--it is really nothing to get very excited about IMO. The Cascading Floral Astrid is pictured in it--again in Ivory (not black). There are a few new items that truly did not excite me and there are changed up ideas for how to wear the things that came out in Nov...it's, eh.

    ReplyDelete
  76. JCrew, if you are reading this...

This practice of giving gift cards for price adjustments within 7 days on full priced goods is just ridiculous when the majority of the order is paid with "cash" or credit card. What other retailer can get away with this??? Really poor...J.Crew

    ReplyDelete
  77. 50% off Towson, MD store today & more sale items on Nov. 12th.

  78. Thanks, covert5. Just what my wallet needs to hear :) One question re: the new catalog. Did you by any chance see if the Maggie is coming out in new colors? I asked because when it first became available the site actually showed it in a light grey color which led me to wonder maybe they would release different color when it's closer to the holidays.

  83. I simply said that I didn't want to beg but could I possibly have free shipping for the trouble of having to call. The phone operator said since this was our fault, yes, we can offer you free shipping. She put in some code. JUST ASK!! as long as you do not do it every single time you order they will do their best to accomodate you.

  84. Yes, I've been getting execution failed notices on the website too.

They are failing miserably these days.

    ReplyDelete
  85. What stores already have the December catalog? I want to leaf through one!!

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Hmm, that's just too bad about the site. I mean, I'm irritated but not deal-broken about the .99/.50 bit: but it seems like the few times I check in at J.Crew every week, something is up with the site. And in this economy, with all the Banana Republics and Ann Taylor Lofts of the world giving out coupon codes and coupons like candy, my willingness to try, try again with J.Crew just isn't what it used to be. When taken in combination with the apparent price hike of a lot of items - well, it's a bit much. I certainly don't mean to gripe at J.Crew employees; it's just too bad, that's all. But hey, maybe things will look up!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Just an FYI to everyone complaining about JCREW and comparing it to Banana Republic, Gap, Ann Taylor Loft, and Ann Taylor, I don't really think that you should. JCREW considers themselves much more of a luxury brand than any of these, esp Ann Taylor Loft and GAP. I also think the majority of JCREW's items are better quality than these other stores, ie, fabrics, leather goods, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Oh, I'm sure you're right; there's no doubt that J.Crew's products are just top-notch. It's just the line between product and customer that appears to be a bit muddied lately.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Banana Republic has better quality than J Crew. They have better cashmere, their bags are lined.

J Crew wants to be a high end brand but in reality they are not, they are right with BR and the rest.

  90. Did anyone else have any luck contacting CS to apply free shipping to their fall sale order?

  91. Hi Everyone! Could someone please help me with the fit of the Gretta coat??? I have a Fiona jacket in size 8, (I actually fit in to the size 6, but got the size 8, I am not really a size 6!) I also have tried on a tulip coat, but needed a size 10 for the bust area. I usually wear a medium in tops/sweaters, but sometimes I can wear a small. Any thoughts??? Can't decide between size 8 and 10. Thanks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Anonymous @10:56a - I ordered the Clea the other day. Haven't recvd it yet. I ordered a 4 and am hoping it's TTS.

    ReplyDelete
  93. "additional items added"

    I don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  94. About the Anony with coat sizing...depends on what you plan on wearing underneath the coat...light layer get size 8...heavy layers get size 10.

I wear a JCrew medium but I can wear an 8 or 10 in their jackets but since I don't like to feel constricted I usually get the 10 and I am 5'10" so need the extra length/room. All my JCrew coats are size 10. I am a 34 B and weigh 135.

    ReplyDelete
  95. gigiofca and anon @ 10:56: I have the Clea and the fit is TTS. It is lovely. Enjoy :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. Thx Jcrewjunkie and Gigiofca-- I also think the persimmon one is cute. I wonder ...if I can wear a 4 in the bust and waist, but need a 6 for the shoulders-do you think I could wear a 4 in Clea? The price on the red one is so good I'm tempted. How is it in the shoulders? TY!

  97. Just called CS about the 30% off only applicable to items ending in .99 and the CSR just told me the same thing without offering to honor the extra 30% off for a coat. What bothers me is the inconsistency. Seems like it depends on the CSR whether the 30% off would be honored.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Anon@ 7:30- I wouldn't call this late-you'll get Outsourced Olga and Work from Home Wendy. Call during the day and you'll get the A Team.

  101. FYI- you can use your 10% off coupon (the one for sharing your e-mail) with the in-store 50% off! Just picked up some amazing deals:)

  103. Nordstrom is also having a semi-annual sale, I just bought a pair of boots.

JCREW: I bought a Merino Lea Cardigan on promotion for $69.50 and PENELOPE BALLET FLATS (CANYON COLOR) FOR ABOUT $50 (AFTER THE 50% OFF)

  104. I'm wanting to get the Stadium-cloth Shipley coat. Anyone have any thoughts of this - shape, quality, fit?

  105. Is anyone else having trouble with the credit card processing? On checkout it tells me the CVN on my Visa is incorrect and I'm looking at the card and it's correct. I used the card on the way home from work to fill up my car and there is nothing wrong with the card.

I also tried my Amex card and the website says the CVN should be 4 digits when it is only 3 on the back of the card.

Frustrating. The website glitches are so annoying.

I don't like to get on the phone with CS so I will just pass on the couple of sale items that I had selected. The sale is not that great anyway and the Harriet coat was $225 on deal last week, now it is up at $275 and doesn't qualify for the 30% regardless.

  106. Just went to the Georgetown J Crew- thanks for the 50% off tip!! I love this site. I'm gonna try and check out the other J. Crews in the area tomorrow!!

  107. My local B&M in Houston has 50% off sale items but, not a lot to choose from.
Also was able to get a copy of the new Holiday catalogue. Noticed a lot of the same items as the October/September catalogue.
I think they are adding a few new items but, like a lot of other retail stores it appears that they are really scaling back on Holiday.
Also noticed on page 21 they show the Aubrey Herringbone jacket for full price $250 and, it is now showing up in fall sale for $185 with the extra30 off is a pretty good deal.

  108. and4mynextrick: the vpn on your amex is the four digits on the front of the card above the credit card number, not the numbers printed on the back signature strip. Hope this helps.

  110. And4mynexttrick,
If you use your American Express, you will have to enter the 4 digits number printed on the front of your card at up right.

  111. anon @ 834pm: I ordered the stadium shipley coat and I really like it!! The fabric feels between the wool/cashmere and the lady day, in terms of softness, in my opinion.

I really like the empire waist style and found it to be true to size. I have so far tried on the plaza, madeline and the shipley and was a 2 in all of them. I did a comparison with the same sweater (a medium-thick cable knit). The plaza had the loosest fit in the body, but the shoulders fit me so I wouldn't have sized down. The shipley was tight around the bust, but not in a limiting way with the sweater.

The bottom part does not fit close to the body but does not bell out in a way to make you look bottom heavy or flare out a lot, like the plaza. I like the weight of the coat - it felt very warm but I didn't feel constricted in my movements, like with a wool cashmere.

The pockets are deep, so much so that when I put my hands in them, I can't touch the bottom. As one who constantly stretches out her pockets and creates holes in them, this was great news!!!

I just realized I don't know how it looks unbuttoned but buttoned is so adorable. It hits me right above the knee, but I am short (5'3").

Sorry for the long review. :)

  113. My husband just brought me the JCrew delivery from my last order, which arrived before I got home today.

I ordered the white cotton Victoria blouse and it is very nice. The cotton is extremely fine and slightly opaque. The pleats were all flat so I had to ruffle them up a bit to get the look in the catalogue, which I duplicated with layers of necklaces, pearls, etc. The blouse is classic, refined, an unexpected surprise under a suit. Definitely a keeper. I may have to order the camel stripe as well.

I also received the Tuesday trench in my usual JCrew coat size, but it is huge. Unfortunately it is FS so I'll be keeping it and wearing with layers underneath. It's a casual jacket anyway so I will layer with sweaters as a weekend piece. The double-serge fabric is nicely woven and it seems as though it will be quite warm. I love the navy colour and brass buttons, it will be great with jeans and brown boots, a bright turtleneck underneath. Besides the fact that this is a casual piece, I notice a few more navy items available everywhere this fall, which is great for those of us who have more formal dress requirements at work. I would love to see navy make a mainstream comeback, it's a great colour for me.

  114. Thanks Jordan and anon, for the tips on adding the Amex CVN. Maybe that was the problem with my Visa as well.

I added my Amex card and bought the items as they were still sitting in my shopping bag. My husband just shook his head and laughed because he loves JCrew too and he always says he is happy if I am happy. I didn't tell him that I have a couple of items for him in the order so that will be a nice surprise when we get the next package.

A couple items were FS and the discount worked fine for me. It's too bad the 30% off communication from JCrew isn't clear, especially for those who want the items, but need a deal to justify the purchase. Maybe JCrew will get things in order soon. Let's hope!

    ReplyDelete
  115. and4mynexttrick: You do NOT have to keep the Tuesday Trench just because it is FS. I ordered the Cooper jacket in Rhubarb which was FS in a size 2. When it came it was HUGE so I simply sent it back and put a short explanation about the jacket being too big and could I please exchange for a size 0. Two weeks later my exchange showed up and the fit was perfect. If I had called ahead (according to CS) I could have greatly shortened the shipping time (so I would suggest calling ahead). Good luck and enjoy your Tuesday Trench...I too have it in navy and LOVE it. :)

  116. anon @ 7:29: I got my regular size in the Clea which is 0 and I think it fits quite well. I did run upstairs and try it on, however, and if you have broad shoulders then I would size up one size for maximum comfort and mobility. HTH.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Anon @ 8:34--I concur with the other reviewer about the quality of the Shipley Stadium Cloth coat. I'd never ordered a coat in this material before. I'd loved it. Very soft and cozy to the touch, and it felt warm and cozy as soon as put it on.

I'm short (5'-4"). The coat hit just above my knee (I liked the length). And the arms were a nice length. Probably would have been able to wear without shortening. I did not find the top to be as fitted as the other reviewer, but I am small busted.

In fact, I have decided to return the coat because it was not tailored enough through the top to be flattering on me, even though the coat has an empire waist detail.

  118. I can understand the frustration with how the Extra 30% of Sale worked out. But I have to say that I did a test check-out because I wondered weather 30% would be taken off the items I knew had been on-promotion like the outerwear. When it did not work, I realized that the promotion did not apply to everything that is on the sale page, but everything that had been marked as a sale item (.99).

I'm glad that J.Crew responded to many of you who called to express your legitimate confusion and frustration--the company tried to correct their wrong.

To Anon @ 1:21 p.m.--I share your pain. I've done the same thing before--ordered the day before a promotion came along! Shopping J. Crew is like gambling!!

  125. for clarification with sale vs promo. Anything that ends in 99 cents is sale price. That means $49.99, $19.99, etc. Everything else that is marked down is considered "promotion" ($49.50, $98, etc.) and can go back to regular price whenever.

  131. I think that J.Crew's pricing is somewhat strange (B&M offers 50% while online offers only 30% off, etc) but I found another mysterious J.Crew marketing. I spotted Featherweight waffle henley (item 96957 $34.50) was sold at $9.99 ($6.66 w/t 30% off) in the sale section this morning. But only 1 or 2 were available in each size and all had gone within 30 minutes. I scored one in dark fog at 6.99 but now the same item is sold at full price of $34.50 in the regular section, which is very weird…

  133. covert5,

thanks for the heads up that the new catalog is just a basic repeat...I looked at it online and there are a few new items but nothing that I have to have....will be saving some money. While I loved the picture of the lady with the blond hair with the cascading flowers Astrid in the Collection catalog online I do not like it now that I can see it on the models and up close pictures online....the flowers are really a big too much. Very full!

I think I will go have a cup of tea and look at last year's Paris catalog:) and all my buys from last year in my closet!

  134. I noticed while viewing the new catalog online that it says NOVEMBER 2 '08 so the new catalog is not the December one so there is still hope for some new and exciting items in maybe a few weeks time.

  138. I must have that pink licorice tee. I love wearing their fun tees with a cardi, it's my wardrobe staple! Other than that, there's not much that floats my boat. it's all either too expensive or too similar to something I have, or too dressy for a Stay at Home Mom. Talk to me the day after xmas when it's all in the sale section...!

  151. I want to thank this blog and the commenters for highlighting how the extra 30% only applied to certain sale items. While finalizing my order, I was wondering why the discount didn't seem to apply. So I removed a pair of pants and brought down my order total considerably.

  156. Jcrewjunkie - thanks for the tip about returning the Tuesday trench that is too large. I think I'll keep it anyway and have it taken in on the bottom because that is where it is oversized. I'm larger in the bust so the extra room is fine with sweaters. It's just so roomy around the waist and hips where I'm small, but I can get that fixed, I have a wonderful tailor.

I'll remember your tip in the future if I decide to return a FS item due to poor fit

  159. Hey all,

Well, I’ve taken the plunge & placed an order using the 30% off on sale items. I called last night & was told that the “promotional” items did not qualify, only the ones ending in .99. I wasn’t so very keen to place my order right then. Luckily, when I called today, the CS rep said that everything on sale was included. Weird. Also, sometimes I can get my educator discount & sometimes not so much. This time ‘round it was an either – or situation & since she was including all of the items I wanted in the %30 offer, I wasn’t going to argue. It’s like playing retail roulette… I agree with other aficionada’s that this can be very frustrating. However, I think that I ended up with a good deal. My order included:

Petite Lady Day Coat #96915 Camel
    Jackie Cardigan #85613 Navy
    V neck t # 97784 poppy & black
Rosette Belt #98098 grey / aqua

Thanks to Alexis & this wonderful site I was able to use the free shipping code. When it all totaled up at the end, I paid $290. That’s five items for the same price as 1 coat! I did a quick tally & would have been nearly $500 if I had paid full price for everything!

I’ll admit to feeling a bit giddy for getting such a great deal (& spending so much) on some lovely things. Still, it does feel a bit like booking travel plans. I often find myself asking; “Should I hold out for a better deal or buy now when they have what I want?” Also, why is it that the extraordinary sizes like petite, tall, & curvy ladies always have to order online & via the phone & pay the shipping penalty. Seems to me that if you don’t stock my size, it would be appropriate to save me a trip to a store phone & waive the shipping. Otherwise I may not buy something if I risk paying a shipping fee only to return it for sizing & fit issues. Thankfully, I opt for the codes provided here. Although I guess it could be considered enabling since I buy more than I did before I found y’all & your great suggestions (esp. FFM).

    Oh well, everyone has to have a vice I guess :}

    Thanks all,

    Heather:D

  160. Hi again,

I’m writing on a few threads today so please bear with me. I just picked up a few items @ %30 off online. I got a good deal, but I’m also interested to see what’s available at a B&M.

Mostly I’d like to see if anything is on the %50 sale rack as fellow aficionada’s have mentioned. Also hoping I can find some of the outwear in stock so I can get a feel for the pieces. I would really like to see any & all styles in the wool double cloth. I bought a Tulip coat last week (30% off seemed like a good deal – who knew hey would have an additional price break?) that I need to return. The coat fits well… I’m just not into the sleeve details. So, I’m hoping to get a Lady Day & would like to see the colour options. It’s a little easier to look for myself instead of getting tangled in one of those “Is it a blue- red or orange-red” conversations with the folks on the phone. That said, I spoke with a very helpful associate who gave me some measurements for comparisons. Hope they might prove useful to y’all:

    # 9795 Tulip P6
    Bust 37 Waist 33.5 Low hip 40.5
    Shoulders 14.75 across
Sleeve 30.62 center back to cuff

    #79205 Lady Day P6
    Bust 36.75 Low hip 40.5
    Shoulders 14.75 across
Sleeve 30.62 center back to cuff

    Reg6
    Bust 37 Low hip 42.5
    Shoulders 15.75 across
Sleeve 32 center back to cuff

    P8
    Bust 37.75 Low hip 42.5
    Shoulders 15.5 across
Sleeve 30.62 center back to cuff

    #96915 Plaza P6
    Bust 37 Waist 35 Low hip 42
    Shoulders 15.25 across
Sleeve 30.62 center back to cuff

I went & bought the Plaza in Camel as it seemed a good neutral. I plan on buying the Lady Day in Dark Poppy if it’s a good clear red & have Chocolate as my safety choice. Anyone have either the brown or red? Most of my clothes are pretty conservative colours; greys, blues, maroon, & dark green. I’m hoping the coat will make a good signature piece without going too far out of my comfort zone. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Heather:D

  161. I share the frustrations noted regarding J. Crew. I really love the apparel from this store; however, I am getting fed up with the inconsistencies in thier policies. I feel they take thier loyal customers for granted. I went into a B & M today looking for the Snow Leopard dress. The item is in the sale section on the website. I asked the associate if she could locate the item and if the 50% off would apply. Initally, she said it would not be a problem. Nevertheless, she called to order the item on the red phone and another associate shared with her that they could not apply the 50% because it was a catalog item. She went on to offer me the 30% in addition to my educators discount. In frustration I declined the offer. I went home and calmed down and changed my mind about the item. I proceeded to place an order by phone with the company. The associate over the phone shares that they cannot combine the 30% in addition to the educators discount. He went on to ask me if I new the name of the associate, etc. That was the only way they could process it. I challenged him on the inconsistencies/vagueness of thier policy. It just doesn't make alot of sense to me. He began to talk in circles; therefore, I asked to speak with a supervisor. Shortly after he returns to the phone and states that they can process the order. Why treat your customs this way? The associate spoke with a phone representative just like I did. It the offer is made in store, shouldn't the same offer apply to the same garment if I call myself?
