J.Crew Student Discount: Upgrade to 15% Off

A big "thanks!" to Cass in the post "J.Crew In-Store 20% Coupon" who let us all know that her J.Crew store is offering a 15% discount for students (normally it is 10%). Also, thanks to Math Teacher who let us know that the 15% discount is permanent.

I think it is great that students and teachers get to benefit from 15% off. Way to go J.Crew! :)

Thanks again to Cass & Math Teacher!

  1. I think this is very nice, although, I am starting to feel like I can't keep up with all the changes happening. 30% off here and there, 20% off but you have to ask and be pissed about the website, student discounts working only some of the time. Honestly, I've gotten a lot of the confusion to work in my favor. I attribute this to the knowledgable and savy consumers on this blog. So thanks!
But I'm starting to get tired out:)

  2. Anyone know when stuff will improve over there? I am still waiting for my damn gold shoes. They've supposedly sent me 3 pairs and I haven't received ANY of them. I have called 4x and have been on the phone a LONG time each time. I did tell them the last time that if I had to call one more time I expected the shoes for free. I'm giving them till Weds. for one of the 3 pairs to arrive. Urgh.

  3. I called customer service and they said the issues should be resolved by the end of the week. Does that mean that there's relief in sight?!?!?!

  4. JCrewbug: I know what you mean. I feel like its up to the customer to be informed about their latest offers- which can be tiresome. :)

Caroline: Good luck with your shoes! Are they the liv metallic flats in gold (I own and love this pair!)

Wendy P.: If what the CS told you is true then I can't wait for the end of the week! :) I would love to shop online with confidence again. :)

  5. Alexis, EXTRA30 wasn't working this afternoon. I hope there is another coupon code that goes with the "issue free" website, there are a quite a few flats I want.

  6. Marisa: On the main page of the blog, on the upper right hand corner, there are a few more codes:

    # SHIP-2389 (free shipping on any amount; expires ?.??.08)
    # SCHOOL (free shipping on $100+ & optional 1 yr of Cookie Magazine; expires 8.7.08)
    # AGR-100 (free shipping on $150+; expires 8.9.08)

Good luck with your order of the flats! :)

  7. marisa: since the 30% is still showing on my page, you might try calling. I think someone else mentioned that they called their order in and CS honored the 30%. The worst they can say is no and then you don't have to order. :)

  8. OT, another BR discount: They are having a shopping spree sweepstakes on their website. If you put in for the contest and don't come up a winner (pretty much 99.99% of everyone) they give you a coupon code for 15% off a $150 purchase.

  9. marisa and math teacher: I was the one who called in to ask that the Extra30 be applied since it is still showing up on my Final Sale homepage. It was honored along with the educator discount and free shipping...it just never, never hurts to ask. ;)

  10. Thanks cass! BR has been getting all of my money in the last month or two, now I have another excuse. :) (My husband's going to kill me.)

  11. I called and spoke with a sale associate asking for them to apply the 15% student discount to an order I made Saturday. One associate said the new discoung goes into effect on Tuesday 8/5, and that she couldn't do it yet. I called back and spoke to somebody else who was able to increase the discount from 10 to 15% on my previous order. So, the lesson is to keep calling customer service until someone is willing to help you out!

  12. Thanks for posting about this! As a grad student, every $ saved counts.

  13. No prob Laura. I am a very frequent BR shopper too, b/c they have a full size range 00P-16T available on the website, and not just on a few selected items. Several items I would like to buy from J.Crew they don't put out in my size so they don't get as much of my $$$.

  14. question about the teacher discount. lately, sales associates have been giving me the discount on sale items as well as full priced stuff. is this true for everyone, or have i just been getting lucky? when i first used it back in may, i was told that it was like the student discount and only valid on full priced items, but since late june, i've been getting it on everything. what are other folks experiences?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Cass: Thanks for the heads up on the BR discount! :)

Marian: I have experienced similar situations like you have: where one CS will do something for me while another will not. You sometimes do have to keep trying until someone can help you out. :)

    Mark: Your welcome!

Ms. Mindless: You should definitely get the discount on regular sale items. I use to post here that the teacher/student discounts should also be applied in addition to any "additional percent off" sale items. However, some of the Aficionadas (like Slastena) have local stores that really don't budge on allowing the use teacher/student discounts on additional % off sales (they make the customer choose one discount over another). Not really sure why this policy isn't more uniform. Hope this helps! :)

  16. My teacher discount depends on which store I go to. The one in the mall by me doesn't combine my teacher discount with any sales. The 3 stand alone stores in shopping centers near me will combine. Guess where I shop more often? Not to mention the mall store is just always crazy busy-with people looking-no one is ever trying on or buying! But in the stand alone stores there are only a few people-but they're making purchases!

  17. FWIW, I think the nicer you are to the CS reps and the in-store personnel without being a complete brown noser, the better the experience. I agree that the different reps do different things on the phone. I wonder if they are grouped and all have different mgrs. I worked in a call center for a bank and we had a really nice manager who reversed a lot of fees and would take problem calls. The group of cs reps that sat across from us had a really snarky mgr that was a pill. So maybe different mgrs are telling the employees different things. I also think the people in the daytime seem a bit more knowledgeable about the clothing and own it. When I've called late at nite, they don't seem to be as familiar with the colors/fit/styles.

  18. Oh -- and you might just want to pout and cry about the discrepancy next time you're denied. Perhaps they will just give you the discount on top of sale items. I would try saying it's done for me all the time. Good luck. And I hope they fix the inconsistencies across the board!

  19. yeah. it is hit or miss depending on the store. the stores in baltimore at the gallery and at pentagon city will give the teacher discount on anything and combine it with other discounts whole tysons and annapolis won't. i usually try and say, 'but pentagon/baltimore will honor it' and it works occasionally at the stricter stores.

  20. Yay for BR! Although their clothes sometimes look a bit dowdy, I find their cut and quality super worth it for the price.

  21. Even though I'm a teacher not a student, my sa mentioned this new student discount. He did not say that it was for a short time, however. He seemed to think that the new percent was here to stay.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't know for sure that this is permanent, but that's how my sa made it sound.

  23. Strange...I just call CS to get my student discount applied to my recent phone order and the CSR told me the student discount was 10% not 15%, but she called my local store to make sure and turns out it is 15%. So yay! I'm so glad I read this blog or else I would not have known to ask for the 15% instead of 10%.

  24. Math_Teacher: Thanks for letting us know that it is probably not temporary. I went ahead and updated the post with that info. :)

Aly: Congrats on getting the discount you deserve! :)

  25. Hi everyone! I am J.Crew employee, and was commenting to confirm on the teacher discount. In our back room, a note was posted that the 15% off discount will be available for students and teachers, starting in August. No specific date was listed, so I would assume that this began 8/1/08. This being said, if you purchased anything between now and then, you should be able to receive a price adjustment to reflect the upgraded discount.

We were encouraged to share this with friends and family, so tell everyone you know!

Ms. Mindless: I am 99% sure that the discount can be used on all items, including sale, but let me double check that with my manager...

    ReplyDelete
  26. So I checked with my manager and the 15% off discount is taken off of your total purchase- including full priced items, items on promotion, markdown items, etc. Hope this helps!

  27. Just to follow up,
I just called and used the 15% student discount on a "final sale" item. It hasn't shown in the Order History, but hopefully it'll reflect in the credit card statement.

    Thanks for the tips, guys.

    WOW! thanks for the tips!
