Article on J.Crew's New Accessory Catalog

A big "thanks!" goes to Ashley who shared with us a great article about J.Crew from Women’s Wear Daily (click here for the link).
A New Accessory
By David Moin
August 25, 2008

J. Crew customers will do a double take when they receive the brand’s next accessories catalogue around Sept. 2: The format has been totally redone in 10 1/2 by 15-inch recycled newspaper. It’s also clear the content has progressed beyond the familiar mittens and chunky hats, which J. Crew historically embraced to a sophisticated array. The book displays fine Norwegian leather and Italian calfskin handbags, metallic totes, satin fleur clutches, satchels with a wax patina that changes with age, gold and beaded necklaces, pearls and pared down colors.

The image is further heightened with most of the accessories shown with items from Collection, which provides luxury versions of Crew classics, like coats in shearling and T-shirts in cashmere.

“Because we mail catalogues so often, 13 a year, we felt it was time for something a little more arresting. There’s an element of surprise,” said Jenna Lyons, creative director. “We didn’t want people to think this is a normal catalogue.”

She acknowledged J. Crew has been more recognized for sportswear. “We want accessories to be top of mind as well.”

That may be the case down the road, too, for Collection, Lyons added, noting a Collection catalogue, which hasn’t been done this year, is a probability. First up, however, is a Collection store opening soon on Madison Avenue.
I am personally excited to see their catalog on accessories. I think J.Crew does a fabulous job designing the "regular" catalogs, that I can't wait to see their take on accessories. I am wondering how customers will receive this catalog- by mail (to a select few customers) or through their stores. In either case, I am hoping that I can get my hands on one. :)

What are your thoughts on the Collection catalog concept? Would you like to receive one? What are your impressions of J.Crew's collection accessories like jewelry and handbags?

  1. OOH! How exciting! Can't wait for this catalog!

  2. I WOULD like to receive this catalog, actually. I'm not an overly big fan of J.Crew accessories, but do think a few pieces are really cute. I wonder if the recycled paper is from all the duplicate catalogs they send out?

    ReplyDelete
  3. I can't wait!! Like muffy, I am very excited to see it!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Can't wait to see this catalogue. And that photo is making me want the harlow blouse even more. I hadn't really looked at that square link bracelet on the site, but seeing it on a wrist, it's gorgeous. I'm not sure it's worth 85, though.

  5. I do not think J Crew accessories are worth the money. I have had poor experiences with their shoes which always hurt and do not hold up well. Also, I can buy better bags and jewelry that will hold their value for what they charge for those pieces.

Honestly, I wish J Crew would focus on their clothing since that is what I feel they do best.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I love J Crew accessories and usually buy tons of them. So excited about the catalogue, can't wait!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I am excited, too. However, their jewelry is too expensive for me at full price.

    ReplyDelete
  8. i actually really love jcrew accessories...especially their clutches and belts. :) i think most of their accessories are very stylish without being over the top. i haven't bought any jcrew shoes lately because i've heard they aren't comfy but there are many styles that i love the look of. i'm also a BIG fan of their scarves and some of the jewelry :) i hope i get one of these catalogs!! :)

  9. ffm -- "I wonder if the recycled paper is from all the duplicate catalogs they send out?" FUNNY!

I think the problem w/lack of comfort & J Crew shoes is that the soles are man made on many of the ones I've read descriptions of. Over $150/pop is a steep price for shoes that don't have a leather sole.

I'm looking forward to the catalog. I think they do a great job of showing how to wear the accessories w/casual clothing. Very nice.

  10. I have numerous pair of their ballet flats from the last 3-4 seasons. It would help if they put in some cushioning or padding in them. After a couple of hours of running around in them, the balls of my feet start to hurt.

Now I try to only buy their shoes on sale since the flats wear out pretty easily for me.

I do love their boots and have several pairs. So, I am looking forward to what they bring out this year.

  11. I agree with kitsmommy that JCrew jewelry is not the worth the money as well as their leather bags...I prefer the real thing in jewelry (not costume) and I have had bad experiences with the 2 pair of their shoes I do own...

I do like their belts and scarves A LOT! I own a TON of them:)

    ReplyDelete
  12. The only jcrew bags that appeal to me are the clutches, the others are too big for my purposes.

Of course I would enjoy seeing the catalogue, I know I'm not the only one here obsessed not only with jcrew products, but with the layout/graphics/design etc. of the catalogues! :)

I don't mind the accessories expansion, so long as they don't screw up all the staples that have made jcrew fabulous!

    ReplyDelete
  13. re: there are usually several pieces of jcrew jewelry I enjoy per season (cuffs, chunky necklaces), but I agree that they are too pricey for costume jewelry. The Collection jewelry is real gold, pearls, etc., so the price tag is more acceptable. I always find very similar, but actual vintage necklaces at consignment shops for tons cheaper.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Interesting how they're going super-dee-duper expensive, when the economy is going super-dee-duper south...seems like a good time to stick to the traditional earmuffs, scarves and mitts...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm very excited about the accessory catalog...even if I'm not a huge accessory buyer from JCrew (yet LOL!), they have fantastic ideas for combinations, colors, and shapes. I think this is a nice direction for them, and while it may not pay off immediately in the short term (I can think of a few other handbag manufacturers that I would drop coinage on first, for example), I think it's a smart, strategic, long-term move.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Another thing I forgot to mention is that many emerging handbag designers (Hayden Harnett, Botkier, Jenny Yuen, Gryson, etc.) raised their prices about two years after their initial introduction. While the JCrew handbag prices are more than Tano and Banana Republic, for instance, they are somewhat lower still than the other bag companies I mentioned...So depending on the quality, these JCrew handbags can either be perceived as a bargain or "emerging designer" price. It will be interesting to see where the prices go as the bag business moves forward.

Can't speak about the other accessories, though I just bought two adorable scarves from ON for $9.99!

  17. Have just finished the WORST week of my life, including the one last year when I broke my arm. I would love to cruise the J Crew web site -- it cheers me up!

But it is down. Again. Or should I say half-way down? All I can see are the new items. If I click on sweaters, pants, sale, etc., the site is down.

I shouldn't have even looked -- now I am more depressed.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can't get the sale page to load...anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, it is down for me too...this sucks...AGAIN!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Does anyone even buy full-price items at J.Crew? I'm a student so full-price is beyond me. But even if I was working, I don't think I'd spend $168 on a necklace made of seashells.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh I would love an Accessory catalog. That being said...I'm still waiting on the latest catalog. Ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Anon: I read somewhere that jcrew is trying to expand its appeal to the over 35 crowd that is already buying designer goods and (for the most part) can afford the higher prices. J. Crew prices seem favorable in comparison.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I not the anon from earlier.

Not everyone over 35 wants or has the means to buy designer duds. I like the idea that JC is trying to appeal to over 35 (I am one of them), but not a high prices.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm excited! I love their jewelry.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think even the collection pieces of jewelry are too pricey. I love the look of some of them, but they are going to have to do better than 10K gold. I would rather buy a Yurman cocktail ring or Lagos charm bracelet for about the same amount.

As far as the shoes and purses go, I find my Cole Haan shoes and Coach purses are visually a great fit for my mostly J Crew wardrobe and are made better.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I actually buy a lot of the jewelry and have several J Crew handbags. Three clutches, the metallic Uptown tote and the Owen Hobo. I find these bags extremely competitive with others on the market and am thrilled with the compliments I get each time I use one.
I do, sometimes, pay full price for the jewelry. There is a big difference between grades of costume jewlry available. I think j Crew is competing more with a Kenneth Jay Lane or Erwin Pearl in this category than other stores like BR. As a buyer of both, I can tell you that the quality and unique details on the J Crew jewelry far surpasses that of a BR or Ann Taylor. They really have amazing pieces. I am not lying when I say I get a comment EVERY single time I wear a peice of my J Crew jewelry. It is my favorite part of J Crew and the piece I get most excited about. CAN NOT WAIT for this catalog.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jenn_brak, I couldn't agree more. Their accessories are the best!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I own several of J. Crews satin clutches and the yellow uptown tote, which I get compliments on all the time. One thing that is frustrating is that I wear a 10.5 size shoe, and my local store recently told me that they're no longer carrying shoes larger than a 9 in stores. I was also at Macy's recently and they said something similar about not carrying bigger sizes. I LOVE shoes but have started to loathe shoe shopping knowing that many stores aren't carrying my size anymore. Sorry for the mini-rant...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kits Mommy - I carry mostly Cole Haan bags and wear a lot of their shoes. I would consider the lined J Crew bags as comparable to Cole Haan. I love the look of J Crew shoes, but have problem feet, so they do not work for me. I do prefer my bags lined though, which prevents me from buying some J Crew bags.

  30. This is o/t, but do you any of you have the wool Tuesday trench? It has been calling my name for a few weeks now. I was holding out until I saw the Greta, but I think I still want the Tuesday. Does anyone have a review of the wool one?

  31. I am still waiting for my regular catalog! Mail just came and no sign of it (much less a 15% off coupon).

    ReplyDelete
  32. I received my new catalog in the mail and it DOES have the apology card with the 15% off code in it, so that makes me happy. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is off topic, but I just received my new catalog today. It does not have the 15% off, but does have free shipping with 150.00 purchase code is SRK-90. It is the thin catalog, only 64 pages where as the one in store is 124. Oh, and I am obsessed with this blog!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hi everyone

Is the website down again? I'm having terrific trouble loading it.

I also got my catalog today with the 15% offer.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  35. mary: the site has been half way down all day...only the sale section won't load. :( Hopefully they are making a major update to it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks FFM!

Hope all is well with you in Florida!

    ReplyDelete
  37. The sale website is still down. I'm getting really sick of the song from the Prague video on the main page!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I just got my buttery twill trousers in the mail today. Thanks to the person who recommended them (I can't remember who it was, as it was a while ago), because they are pretty great!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Megan--I wear 10.5/11 shoes so I can rarely find them in a store. I like to shop at zappos.com, where they have a very large selection of various brands in my size plus free shipping both ways so there is no risk. Also, Nordstrom carries shoes in our size, as does Cole Haan and Nine West (and all in the stores too). Also you can order any shoe from the Nine West website, use code VIP2008 and you get free shipping, no min. You can return the shoes to any of their retail stores for free.

  40. THIRTEEN catalogs a year? Holy moly, that's a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Darn! I am STILL waiting for my catalog to arrive. :(

slastena: I was just thinking about you this morning when I was putting on one of those beautiful tie neck sweaters that you recommended. Do you know which one I mean? I have to wear a cami under it, but it is so pretty. :)

I have the scroll link bracelet from J Crew and have gotten quite a bit of use out of it! I believe, however, that I got it on sale about a year ago. Very functional.

FFM: Like you I hope that the sale section has been down because they are making a major update on it! That would be wonderful!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. A little OT, but is the sale working for everyone?

    ReplyDelete
  43. OT: But has anyone noticed that on the webpage (when you can get in) in the Help section, the discount notation has been changed. It now says students and teachers can get the discount only in-store and the discount is 15% for teachers and only 10% for students.

Did I read this correctly? :/

    ReplyDelete
  44. Just called CS to place an order using my rewards card. When I called CS I was advised that their website is having lots of problems today. Even CS had to check out manually due to the problems.

OT, just could not resist...ordered the Andrea in bright rhubarb. In the catalog it looked very deep pink red. Since my store only had the honey glaze was not able to see the shade of the rhubarb. Has anyone bought this item in this shade...any thoughts? TIA.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Audrey: I also noticed that caveat - got a card with my packages and it says "We love our teachers blah blah blah.." and the 15% discount is for in-store purchases only.

    ReplyDelete
  46. FFM - I often wear heavy cardis in the winter to avoid coats. I know that is not your climate, but was hoping you might have some styling ideas for me. I would like the cardigans to look sharp and detailed when I am dressed, however putting a belt around the sweater just isn't going to work for me. Any creative ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  47. jenn_brak: are you looking at a specific new cardigan or referring to pieces you already own?

    ReplyDelete
  48. JCrewjunkie: I'll be by a J.Crew tomorrow. I'll pick up some extra catalogs if they have them, and if you want, I'll send you one.

The sale and search are not working for me.

Melanie: I don't think 13 catalogs is a lot. VS sends about a million, and 13 seems standard.

    ReplyDelete
  49. A specific one. Namely the wool/cashmere shawl collar (page 54 Item #98417L). Probably in the heather graphite. I just couldn't handle putting a belt around a sweater, it would drive me batty, but want to give it the same kind of polish seen in the picture. I think the trick will be to pair it with a buttondown rather than crew or T neck, but wanted your opinion

    ReplyDelete
  50. jenn_brak: Cute sweater! What about placing a decorative pin over the button instead of using a belt? You could even button it at a higher point than the model, like the button just under the bust. I like the idea of a button down under it, and also think a turtleneck under the sweater would look very polished, as well. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. I am bummed that they basically said they wont be making their hats, gloves and regular totes anymore. I loved that stuff and I dont like most of the new stuff.

I think most their jewelry looks cheap or tacky and their bracelets are just too big for me and impractical... Over all I liked their old stuff and I am not into the new stuff... so this accessories catalog is not something I am looking forward to.

P.S. Sorry for jumping in the convo late... its been a busy day

    ReplyDelete
  52. jenn_brak: An example of the turtleneck idea would be to take what the model is wearing on page 55 and put the sweater over it, pearls and all, but minus the sneakers and no pin, of course. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love the pin idea. I have a marcasite and mother of pearl turtle that would be perfect. Also, love the pearl idea. Found a cheap set online today. Am going to order and keep fingers crossed. They are only $18, have a clasp and are by Monet. I knew you would think of something different. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  54. FYI - a similar version of the enamel ring bracelet can be found on many streets in NYC. Same quality and weight... different colors... I've seen turquoise and black.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Blumre - I love your comments. I disagree with almost everything you say, but still look forward to your additions to the conversation and your opinions. They make me miss living in New York where you could disagree with someone without mortally offending them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I was very interested in the posts about belts over cardigan sweaters. I see that look everywhere, but especially in J Crew. It looks terrific -- but I never could pull it off. For one thing, I'm only five feet tall, and the look cuts me in half. And it seems to me that the belt would never stay in the right place, meaning it would float around with the buckle ending up by one of my hip bones. It's one of those things that looks great in a photo, but seems like it would be sloppy and bag lady-ish on me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous - the riding up is my issue. I am pretty high waisted to begin with, so trying that sweater/belt thing quickly makes me look like my waist and bust are one.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I would like to see more bags and shoes. I don't go for costume jewelry, and theirs is too heavy.

I got a lot of shoes from J Crew, and when you compare them to other shoes that are made in Italy they are a good value even at full price. Cole Haan's shoes are made in China and more expensive!

I also buy a few Coach items, and handbags in the $500 range is common place now. Not everyone wants to shell out those kind of money, but for those who will, it's nice to find something that will match the J Crew outfits well colorwise.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jenn Brak -- I'm glad to know someone else has the same feelings about the sweater-belt thing. Having a bad life and feel like nothing works for poor, pitiful me (a bad attitude, I know).

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh anonymous. You just need to have fun with your clothes! My life is far from perfect right now too, and looking great everyday (if I do say so myself) makes everything just a little bit better. Keep your chin up!

    Pep talk over, I promise.

  62. jenn_brak and anon @6:14: Sometimes using a long scarf instead of a belt at the waist helps...it seems to have a little more staying power and also gives alot of visual interest. I do this with my shift embossed beach dresses, only I tie the scarf just under my bust (empire style) and place a brooch over the square-knot. It helps define the shape of the dress and adds alot of visual interests. Scarves are fabulous for so many reasons! :)

  63. gigiofca, I absolutely love capri flip flopw form this summer - they are made in Italy, have leather soles and are just as comfortable as the are gorgeous. However, I bought a pair of the Peep-toe Mary Janes last week and, while they are simply gorgeous and fit me well, they have plastix soles and are very uncomfortable. The plastic is thin and provides no cushioning, and every step was jarring. I returned them, and J.Crew took them back even though I had worn them one time. I was very pleased they did so. In short - I agree that plastic soles really downgrade the quality of otherwise lovely shoes. I bought a pair of Cole Haan Mary Janes instead (I own 3 pair of Cole Haans and adore them, but I can only afford them on sale!) I find Cole Haan shoes and Coach bags, as others have said, to be nice complements to my J.Crew clothing. I did also get the J.Crew Uptown Tote in Cherry Guava, and it is classicly gorgeous - very Coach-like, except it is unlined. The inside is raw suede which, while beautiful, is not ideal. If J.Crew would use leather soles on all of their better shoes, I'd be a happy customer!

  64. JB and FFM,

Thanks for the kind words. You all make me feel much better.

And JB, I hope all your troubles disappear right this very minute!

  65. Okay, the sale section is working, I just placed an order (by phone, but found the stuff online).

Does anyone have the Keaton pants? What would happen if I wash them in cold instead of drycleaning them?

    ReplyDelete
  66. jenn_brak: never worry about offending me... I dont think it can actually happen! I also think that some of the best decisions and conversations come out of disagreement... so feel free to disagree ANY time you like! :)

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wow, I cannot wait to get this! Love the pic. I hope they mail me one. I don't seem to get anything from J Crew regularly. The store manager had me fill out a card on Sat. Maybe that will help

    ReplyDelete
  68. anon with the terrible week/bad life: It won't bother me if you want to tell us what has happened. I don't mind when people go off the J.Crew topic.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I have the Uptown tote and love it. The leather is really beautiful. I was patient and lucky and paid about $70 for it (but had to wait 3 months as it was waitlisted). Can't believe the regular price is around $250. Like most of J Crew merchandise, it will go on sale.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sorry I'm off topic but I'm hoping there's someone out there who can LOL with me. I just went to place an order for the distressed vintage slim jean and the website says they are scheduled to ship 3/19/2013! I'm pretty sure they'll be out of style by then..... : ) They can't be serious can they?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sounds like a great idea. Will there be anything in it for us guys?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I saw a backorder date of 2010 on crystal button merino cardigan - add it to your cart, the real backorder date should show there.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Jcrewjunkie:
Thanks for the thought.:) I still wear it, not as often as I would like though since summer is almost gone. And now as everyone else I am excited about new Fall stuff. What is you favorite item so far?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Mekiki:
I have Keaton pants and nothing happened to them so far. I washed them in machine on cold cycle w/Oxy detergent. Mine are sea salt color. I dried them on very low, b/c I think if you dry them on high heat they will shrink a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  75. This is a bit off topic, but I have a dilemma. A couple of people on this board have mentioned typing in old item codes and finding them online for reduced prices, so I looked through last year's Holiday catalog and found some sweaters online. They show a multitude of colors and sizes, and you can add them to your cart. However, when I refreshed my checkout page, everything in my cart disappeared (even things from the current fall sale.) Do you think this means that the sweaters don't really exist, or is the website just being funky? I thought about calling CS to check the availability, but would they be able to figure such things out? Has anybody else used the item numbers to find old merchandise?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Katherine D - Please tell me one of the old items you found was the cashmere Bristol sweater sized medium in cream, then I will help you solve your problem! Just kidding. I really think your only option is to call CS. It is really weird that old items would be present on the new site for no reason though.

    ReplyDelete
  77. OT: Does anyone know what in the heck happened to the navy wool charlie jacket? It completely disappeared off the website and I don't see it in the catalog. I want it!!! :(

    ReplyDelete
  78. I would really like to get this catalog, but wonder if I will...I love their accessories, and own quite a few necklaces. I think they give the boring suits I have to wear to conferences and the like just the right "pop."

however, the frickin website is down again! jcrew, you are seriously toying with my emotions! How am I supposed to effectively procrastinate when I can't surf the site????? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Slastena: Thanks! I wasn't planning to put them in the dryer but it would be great if I could! I wear black pants all the time, and these looked nice and were a great price! I know they will be too long, and I don't know if they'll even fit at the waist.

Katherine D: can you give us one of the item numbers? I want to input it and see what you're talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  80. jenn_brak: I'm not sure what sweater you're talking about, but if you have the item number it's worth a shot! I'm pretty sure I should call CS - they might say they have no idea what I'm talking about, but better safe than sorry!

And I tried only adding one sweater to my cart, and it seems to be ok, but I'm still skeptical.

    ReplyDelete
  81. mekiki: sure! one item I found is the Cashmere turtleneck (86224L)

    ReplyDelete
  82. I already have this catalog--it's nice but not a lot of new stuff. There IS some stuff that isn't released yet though, as well as some clothes (models wearing outfits w/ accessories, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  83. Bethl - Oh please share, I don't care about the bags or shoes, but any interesting jewelry? I was just a teeny bit disappointed with the new jewelry in the September catalog, so would love to know I had some pieces to look forward to.

    ReplyDelete
  84. KatherineD: I just typed in that code and added one to my cart (medium, aqua). The picture doesn't show up for me either, but as far as I can tell, it is in my cart. I think it is available.

    ReplyDelete
  85. All - They might be getting ready to add new (old) sales merchandise to the site. I say this because there is magically an inside out Cheshire jacket available. Let me say, this was the most unattractive item I ever saw from J Crew. Let me also say, that before it came out I was beyond thrilled about it and pre-ordered it in two sizes to make sure I was covered. Boy, did those go back fast.

    ReplyDelete
  86. thanks mekiki and jenn)brak! If they're going to be added to the sale section, I should pounce on them (but call CS first!)

    ReplyDelete
  87. katherined - Worked for me too. If you have an old holiday catalog, would you pretty please look to see if the bristol number is in it. it was a 100%cashmere cabled sweater that was about $400 with a kind of open neck design. I got the grey but never ordered the cream and kick myself every week about it. I LOVE THAT SWEATER.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Jenn--I hate to disappoint but upon a cursory look, I don't see any new jewelery in it except for some pearl necklaces (it may be necklaces already existing just piled together.) unless I'm really missing something. It shows more shoes and bags. The newspaper/catalog is about 34 pages long.

    ReplyDelete
  89. bethel: Was the catalogue mailed to you or did you pick it up in a store or what?

    ReplyDelete
  90. jenn_brak: I'll look for it now =) do you remember if it was the holiday catalogs or the ireland one?

    ReplyDelete
  91. sorry, bethl, not bethel.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Mekiki--a very nice cs rep mailed it to me.

    ReplyDelete
  93. katherined- I am sorry, I don't, but would guess Ireland. It was a Collection piece.

Bethl- I just appreciate the feedback. Thanks for the info.

  94. jenn: I checked all the catalogs and it's not in any of them... BUT I searched it in google and although the link leads you to the jcrew homepage, you can still SEE the link... and all you have to do is shave off the last two numbers in the id # to get 88932! So I searched it in jcrew and found this:

    http://www.jcrew.com/search/searchNavigation.jsp?bmForm=search_topnav&bmFormID=1219712616256&bmUID=1219712616256&bmIsForm=true&bmPrevTemplate=%2Fsearch%2FsearchNavigation.jsp&bmText=searchTerm&searchTerm=88932&bmImage=findIt.x&bmImage=findIt.y&bmImage=findIt&findIt.x=0&findIt.y=0&bmHidden=PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441764361&bmHidden=FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302024327&bmFields=bmForm%2CbmFormID%2CbmUID%2CbmIsForm%2CbmPrevTemplate%2CbmText%2CbmImage%2CbmHidden&bmHash=5a1704933b6017192406154491fd3b8215aa91bf

But they only have smalls =(

    (sorry for the atrocious link)

  95. Wow, that link really is bad... I need to learn how to do the cool one word thing.

  96. Katherined - Love is not strong enough a word for how I feel about you right now. Sizes be d__ned. I am going to order this tonight. Thank you and keep your fingers crossed

  97. Katherined - I just noticed your dog picture My sister and I were looking atthe charming picture for about 5 minutes yesterday, both of us wishing we had dogs and that he was ours.

  99. Fingers are crossed! Hopefully it's not another system glitch! I really want those sweaters as well =)

Lol about the dog - I love dogs, and its too bad that they hate wearing clothes!

  100. I have the luxe sweater in cashmere in the snow color medium- and it is truly one of my favorites! Wouldn't pay $350 retail for it...but waited and got it for $69.99 after discounts and what nots! :)

  101. anonymous - I got my grey one for right around the same price and really regretted not getting the cream color. Now, I might be able to correct that mistake. My grey medium ran really big and boxy, so hopefully, the small will fit. I wore it constantly. Did yours run big. I was always scared mine was mismarked size-wise, that is why I never took the chance on the small last year during final sale.

  102. I think some J. Crew accessories are cute, but some are just ridiculous and over the top. I think the Turtle Bauble necklace deserves to the subject of a future "Questionable Item of the Week." It reminds me of an oversized version of these plastic charm necklaces and bracelets that were popular when I was in kindergarten.

Also, I was at a B&M today and while my purchases were being rung up I was enthralled (in a morbidly curious way, not in a wanton way) by this ginormous necklace. It didn't hit me until later that it was the crystal bead Seahorse necklace (that is now in final sale). That seahorse alone was darn near 3 inches long!!! Kudos to whoever can pull that thing off.

BTW, I did the PS 20% off thing and I got tons of awesome things! I am working on a blog about it now. If anyone hasn't already taken advantage of this WONDERFUL opportunity, I highly recommend it!!!

  103. Ashley - I wear my seahorse necklace all the time. I love that piece and actually paid full price for it. Other than the frog necklace from last year, it is the piece that garners the most attention and compliments.

I totally agree about that turtle thing. Sometimes, too much is just too much!

  104. Katherined - I just put my order through for the sweater. However, I did call CS and they said there were none available. Probably a system glitch, will see what happens.

  105. Jenn, you are braver than I! I guess big necklaces in general just scare me. I think I was more shocked about how big that necklace was IRL; from the pictures online, I was expecting it to be much daintier. I even toyed with ordering it at one point. But man, I thought that seahorse was going to swallow me whole! :-)

I'm assuming that Giraffe necklace that everyone is obsessed with is just as big. At least I don't feel bad now about missing out on it. I would, however, like to see someone wear it in real life so I could see what the fuss is about!

  106. KatherineD: that is awesome that you found that for Jenn Brak! Now, does anyone know the name of this eyelet blouse (ebay auction #270267048005, I don't know how to do links either). I think it's something like Saint Emillion? (Me no good at French, if it was even French.)

Also, I think the J.Crew jewelry is very cool, but I can't wear jewelry. It distracts me. I try every once in a while, but it just makes me crazy. Wow, now you gals know I'm a weirdo!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Mekiki: that's ok, I'm sort of the same way with jewelry. Today I wore a pair of earrings and every time I went to fix my hair I almost ripped them out of my ears!

  108. jenn: interesting about CS - it's either there and they don't know it, or the computer is acting up.

  109. It takes a while to get used to the big jewelry I used to feel the exact same way you did. My Grandma loved big jewelry though and when she died two years ago, I started wearing pieces to remind me of her and then moved on from there.
I actually wasn't a giraffe fan. I found it totally charming in the pictures. However, the bright blue eyes were what make the piece (in my opinion) and when you wore the necklace, the eyes were so wide set that they were lost.

  110. jcrewmama - The Mary Janes are so cute, but I noted the man made soles so I passed. Glad I did. Sometimes I'm in my shoes for long periods of time so they have to be comfortable. Cole Haan Nike Air are the best. I tried a pair of Taryn Rose on. She is a podatrist turned shoe designer, I believe. I wasn't impressed. You can immediately feel the Nike Air in Cole Haan. I expected a similar cushion on the shoe for Taryn Rose, but no.

Glad you got your Uptown Tote in Cherry Guava. I believe you got a good price on that! :-)

anon @ 7:56 - I definitely laughed out loud. I should have at least one kid almost ready for preschool by then. *lol*

Hope you get the sweater! I got the bristol last year in small (which is the size i generally wear in tops) and also found it to run very big and boxy. As a result, i didn't wear it much. [I also wondered if the size was mismarked!]. I was curious whether you had suggestions for how to wear it to minimize the boxiness. I'm hoping to get more wear out of it this winter!

    Thanks!

  112. I hate to leave this thread, but have to go to bed at a decent time tonight. (My husband just got home. He had called me and made me play in a poker "free roll" at 10, but I kept checking this site so I wasn't giving it my full attention. I totally lost!)

Anyway, this is a really cool thread, but I'm about to sign off. Goodnight all!

  113. Anonymous - I actually accented the boxiness by wearing a pencil skirt or very sleekly tailored pants. It seemed kind of luxurious and slouchy but not sloppy. I always wore a string of pearls too, as that accentuated the great neckline.

  114. mekiki - the blouse that you referenced on ebay is called the Daisy eyelet tunic top. It's on sale for $59.99. I ordered it and it's very pretty. The item # is 93616. Sizes 8,10 and 12.

  115. Sorry ACP - it must be time for bed - I meant accentuated, not accented. Good night everyone!

  117. Okay, I wrote about my PS experience here. I would love for y'all to read it! :-)

Oh, and I am officially DONE with buying any more summer items. Final sale, you will taunt me no more!!!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Katherined - Rceived an e-mail this morning telling me my order was cancelled due to lack of inventory. Oh well, it was worth a shot. Thanks so much for helping me with the item number.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Hmm, I was checking the status of another order and saw that newly as of yesterday there was a tracking number for the Martine that was supposedly cancelled weeks ago . . . I hope it doesn't mean anything because I already spent the money on my dream tie!

    ReplyDelete
  120. jenn: I'm so sorry your sweater didn't work out! Hopefully j.crew can fix these weird items so that we don't get our hopes up again!

  121. Ashley--thanks so much for the PS review! You've sold me on trying it.

  122. I don't if this off topic or not but I was wondering if its too much to wear both the lydia blouse and the becca ballet flats at the same time since they have the same color combination- i think.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Oh em gee. Cannot wait!!!! I'm going to hit the store this weekend, but I don't think I have enough luck they'll already be out. =/ lol.
