Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?

It is time for another coupon code and this time the "thank you!" goes to Anonymous at 12:25AM, who let us all know about it in the "Free Shipping Code Update" post. J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code NJY-150. This offer expires 7/5/08.

Side note: After the recent "glitches" with some of J.Crew's codes (e.g. not working when they should), I decided to test the code this morning (at 7:15AM)- and it does work! :) Thanks again Anonymous at 12:25AM!!!

  1. I caved this morning, as I was able to get links to the Kelly Jacket, Joelle Blouse, and Joelle Cami where they were not on Final Sale (THANKS ccbmum), so I purchased all 3, plus the Silver Leather Skinny Belt that WAS on Final Sale to get me over the $150, and I just got through to CS and added the Suzannah Cami in Black to replace the one the Dry Cleaner damaged (I just replaced the Bright Flame last week). Now we'll see if the 3 that are not supposed to be Final Sale actually arrive to me that way...I made copies of my checkout page just in case. ;) UGH...I tried to resist, but the fact I can return made all the difference!

  2. FabulousFloridaMommy: That is great that you were able to get them sans-Final Sale!!! The Joelle Blouse looks beautiful! Let us know how it all works out (e.g. if they arrive as not final sale). :)

  3. FFM: I feel your pain "ugh" too!!:)

I purchased 2 Via Vittoria jackets Item , 2 Solid slub-cotton femme tops Item 92156, a Slub-cotton map tee Item 91859, and the Oceania patchwork madras mini Item 90959.

I've been checking for the Via Vittoria's & Solid slub-cotton femme's for weeks now & could never keep them through to check-out.

I still want the Helena pavé sandals Item 90671 (read Salastena's comments & I have skinny, narrow feet).

Cheers to a great weekend to all! I'm headed to the JCrew store today to return & am hoping to see some of the new merchandise in person. I love this site!!

  4. Good luck Rach at the store- hopefully they will still have that "additional 25% off sale" going on. :)

  5. Thanks Alexis! I can't stop with the "!" this a.m. I really think I'm on a high from those purchases! Or maybe it's from the 2 Excedrin I took for my headache. Over & out! ;\

  6. NJY-150 showed up in my shopping bag as free shipping, but the server crashes every time I try to check out. Gah! I should take it as a sign from the gods.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Rach: Too funny! I know the exact "high" you are talking about from making a great J.Crew purchase!!! :)

  8. Chini: sorry to hear that the NJY-150 code didn't work. Does the IJN-160 still not work too? I suggest placing the order and calling customer service to waive it manually- so you can still get the items in your cart. :)

  9. This isn't JCrew related, but Old Navy is having flip flop day on Saturday the 28th and all of their solid flip flops are $1 :) (I found this on FabSugar after reading about the new JCrew fall collection here.)

  10. It seems like a lot of people hate the final sale and want to be able to return items. Personally, I feel like I make a LOT of in-store returns -- don't get me wrong, I keep a lot of things too -- but sometimes I feel a little embarrassed about it. But the store employees are always really nice about it.

I'm curious to know how many returns other people make. Has anyone ever had a problem making in-store returns?

    ReplyDelete
  11. No problem making returns in store but I have been embarassed too because I end up holding my orders & taking them in all at once. It can take up to 15 mins so I try to go when I don't think the store will be busy. Imagine being a personal shopper (not a JCrew employed personal shopper)!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anonymous at 8:30AM: I do not make many returns to J.Crew. I think that I keep about 95% of the items I purchase (even if I rarely wear them). :)

The last time I return an item was the Chambray Skirt (because I bought three sizes to see which one would fit me best).

However, I like the option to return- it makes me more comfortable with my purchase. (Otherwise, it makes me "think twice" about the item when its "final sale".)

On a bright note, I really have not experienced any issues with returning an item at J.Crew. For the most part, the customer associates have been very accomodating.

Rach: I can imagine returns are a little bit more work for you- a personal shopper- as you have to keep track of different accounts. :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Alexis: oh no, I'm not a personal shopper (can't say I wish I was either). I was just providing a thought on how many times a personal shopper must return items to any store. Trying to lessen the feeling of embarassment on the regular shoppers conscience.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am really curious about what store will do with all returns purchased online. Will they mail them back to online store or sell them in their store? Any ideas? Thanks.

  15. As to what the stores do with the returned items - one time I returned a BEAUTIFUL jacket because it didn't quite fit right, and it was a bit too much for me to pay for something that wasn't perfect. I was pretty sad about returning it. Anyway, the store manager happened to be handling my return, and he remarked that he was going to be a "bad manager" and sell it in the store instead of shipping it back because it was so pretty. He offered to sell it back to me at an additional 25% off, plus my student discount. I was thrilled and took him up on it.

So the short answer is, it looks like they're supposed to send them back to headquarters or something, but they have the option of selling them in the store if they want.

  16. anony---I have asked that same question at a store and been told they do both things with the item depending on what it is.....what season it is from, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  17. IJN-160 did not work for me :(, but I ended up just taking one item out of my shopping bag, so my total price was less than $100 (barely), and my S+H a tiny bit less than it would have been w/o the coupon code anyway.

I got the jackie shell in clover because they had an xs. I just got it in bright azul/cabana blue a couple weeks ago. I have one in the same green from a couple years ago, and needs to be replaced (shrunk a bit in the wash, even though I never put it in the dryer! maybe once). I also got the cashmere bataeu neck in fossil. I have it in black and love the shape. It's pretty lightweight, too. I won't pay full price for jcrew cashmere.

Ok, now I have to go hide the credit card!

  18. FFM: I have the Joelle Blouse in Papaya and the Joelle Cami in regal purple. I got the Blouse in a size 2 and it fits nicely even though I usually wear a 0/XS. I wear it under the Avery Ruffle Cardigan item #92941 in Sweet Papaya and it just looks so feminine and fabulous. You will love the Silver Leather Skinny Belt (I also have it in Gold). Looks great with J Crew's capri sandals. Speaking of sandals, I ordered the Born ones you suggested...I'll let you know when they arrive. Many, many thanks!!

  19. Hey Guys!
I have been reading this blog for a while now (and love it), but have never posted. Today I ordered something off of the sale page and when the pop-up BizRate survey came up I actually completed it. There was one section where you can give JCrew suggestions, so naturally I said bring back free shipping, or if not at least offer a flat rate shipping offer. (Has anyone ever done this before? I have read the blogs for the past week, but have never seen anyone having completed the survey, so sorry if this is a repeat.)
Shockingly (!) JCrew personally responded to my complaint. Here's what they said
"We apologize for your inconvenience pertaining to our shipping costs. You may place an order from our retail stores to receive free shipping and handling, you will need to include at least one regular priced item. Also, we still send out free shipping and handling coupons randomly. *(Then they explained rising gas costs and the expense invovled in packing)* Though the fee may not seem competitive initially, we feel it is a fair solution to the increasing costs of materials and transportation."
Thoughts? My complaint is that the shipping was crazy before the gas prices were!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Annonymous: I have done the same thing before as well as yelled at them for their discrimination against bustier women in their swim suit line(it is sooooo discrimination, even if it is legal). Anyway they got back to me saying they believe their shipping rates are fair yadda, yadda, yadda. It was kind of a B.S. response. I don't think it ever got anywhere. Frankly while ppl keep buying they wont lower it. And that would mean I would have to stop shopping and that is just impossible.

  21. Thanks for the code! I am officially cut off on JCrew...I just placed another order and I need to be stopped!

Last night I went to the store and got the Lisa Dress in Navy. I normally wear a large, maybe medium, but in this dress I actually bought the Small (a first for me!) because it s so flowy and stretchy and I wanted it to fit snugly at the top and shorter.

I also just grabbed the Frances tops in tall, was able to find them in Non Final sale--hope they work!

I love this blog--does anyone else feel like it has helped them to be daydreaming and shopping JCrew for a week straight?

Thanks all for your help and comments!

  22. anonymous at 10:39 am:

I totally agree. Jcrew shipping has always been very expensive compared to other catalogs/online stores. To solve this problem my girlfriends and I used to "piggyback" our orders - 2 or more of us place orders together and split the shipping cost. It is also a great way to meet the $$ minimum for free shipping codes, esp. if you only want to buy one or two items ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. kp: that's a brilliant idea!

I'm oddly shaped/size for jcrew, and I often wear different sizes depending on the style and cut. (and I wear petite sizes, which are hard to find in stores) I usually order 2 different sizes for every item that I buy...it makes it easier to meet the free shipping/discount codes, and I can usually find a better fit this way.

Needless to say, I usually end up making a lot of returns...perhaps 60% of what I buy? (the lion's share of those returns are simply duplicates from sizing). I don't feel guilty, but I also try to schedule my returns for "down" times...during the mornings and early afternoons, or close to closing.

  24. Just got a sale coupon for this weekend at JCrew stores only....extra 25% off. All sale items are final sale it says in fine print.......JCrew is slowly going to start loosing me as a customer with this no returns thing in stores too but at least you can try on the items first...online you can't. Wish they would do away with the final sale all together but guess not as it is in stores now too.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not sure if anyone answered this question yet. Just last week, I asked the sales person in the store about whether they keep the items purchased online in the store or do they ship it back. The person told me that they would keep it if the store carries the item, if not, they'd return it to their warehouse. Hope this helps.

  26. OMG OMG DID YOU SEE?

50% off in stores this weekend... not sure if it starts now or tomorrow... may have to call and ask. In fact that is exactly what I am going to do.

    OMG OMG

    ReplyDelete
  27. OK... the stores I called didnt know what I was talking about and told me to bring the e-mail in. Whatever... I was going tomorrow anyway. It actually says and extra 25% off which equals 50%... but I assume that means an extra 25% off of the 25% that is going on now, equaling 50%... could that be. Anyone know what they are talking about? I hope this e-mail isnt a false alarm

    ReplyDelete
  28. What email?? Can you post a copy somewhere?

    ReplyDelete
  29. blumre:

I'm looking at that email now. I believe this simply please that stores are having an extra 25% off of sale items. And since sale prices are already reduces by at least 25% (25% and another 25% discount doesn't stack up to 50% off!), the total discount from the original/retail price is 50% In any case, I find the numbers to be only a rough guidelines.

Some stores, I think, have already started this "sale." I purchased a $285 suit jacket for $52, and that's well over 50% off...whereas I saw other $50 items on sale for $40....

    ReplyDelete
  30. blah--forgive the typos (my keyboard isn't cooperating), but hopefully, I got the point across.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I want to order some more items but I'm wondering if JC will do another 20% or 25% off the sale price online?

    ReplyDelete
  32. The coupon says in stores only...not online or phone. I called and spoke to two different customer service reps and they confirmed no phone orders. Also, I believe my email notice says "up to 50% off"

    ReplyDelete
  33. I had purchased some items online just before the "final sale" began, and used a 20% off coupon. One item had a crooked seam, so I attempted to do an even exchange (same item, same color, same size) at a store that had the item on 25% off final sale (as opposed to my 20% off non-final sale online purchase). I didn't want the exchanged item to be final sale, so I told the manager that I simply wanted to do an even exchange and did not want the 5% refund, but she insisted that I had to exchange at the store's current price & terms (and therefore I wouldn't be able to return the item). After 5 minutes of back and forth, I gave up and simply returned the item, so J.Crew lost a sale...

  34. This is off-topic but I don't know if FFM checks past posts. :) FFM, I was in the Gap today, randomly browsing around, and I decided to try on some pants. Well, wouldn't you know it if it wasn't the same Tab-front wide leg pants that you and Alexis raved about in the same post as the buttery twill trousers one. Even better, these were on sale for $18. I loved how they fit, the bottom of the pants just brushed the ground and the legs were indeed straight, though I worry that once the crease flattens out, it will be more "flare" legged. If that's not the case, I wish there were more colors than just black and khaki!

FFM, I have now decided that you have great pants tips, especially since we seem to share the same ideas on how we like things to drape. If you ever find any other great pants and don't mind sharing, please, pass it on! My email is in my profile.

  35. Rach: Sorry about the confusion with the personal shopper- I see what you are trying to say! :)

Anonymous at 9:20 AM: I always thought the stores kept the merchandise returned if it was something they already offered. If the item wasn't something that they offered (e.g. shoes) then they would return it back to their warehouse. But I have no idea for certainty. :)

Heather: Sorry to hear that the code didn't work. I am sure if you called their customer service, they would have honored the code. :)

Anonymous at 10:39 AM: Great to have you here! :) Also, thanks for sharing with us what J.Crew responded back with. I find their answer interesting. And I totally agree with you that they had high shipping rates before the "gas price" excuse! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jliz: Congrats on the Frances tops! They are my fav item right now. :)

KP: that is a great idea to reduce shipping fees- to share orders with a buddy. :)

  37. FFM:
i'm glad to hear that you got the joelle blouse!...i love mine. and thankfully it isn't final sale - it SHOULD stay that way by the time you get it :) smart move to copy the check out page just in case. i hope all your stuff works out/fits...can't wait to hear!

i tried the navy kelly jacket in my store and REALLY loved it and it fits nicely...but i already have too much navy in my closet :) you'll really like it!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I tried on the the Jamie jacket, item 95244. I'm not a fan of the cropped or boxy jackets so I like the Jamie Jacket because it is longer (just past my hips), straighter fit & you can belt it.

I'm sure JCrew will have a real blow out sale at some point this summer. There were alot of those 'flowy' tops in the store. Even on sale at 25% off it doesn't look like they're selling out of them.

The Slub-cotton wrap-front tank, item 94432, which FFM speaks so highly of, are nice. I'm going to wait for my color/size to come back on the website. I'm so sure it will be back...

  39. Alexis, I just wanted to say that I realized I didn't call you out in my last comment. I love your taste in pants, too!!

Also, I want to say after visiting the b&m stores that I think I might give up on ordering online at J.Crew unless it is something I completely love or know fits me. Too often, I am just buying the same item in different sizes because I'm not sure of how things fit. It gets tiring having to return everything. :) Not to mention, putting up with my fiancee whining about "all the boxes" that come to our place and what kind of bills I must be racking up. :)

  40. Hi All! I have updated news on my purchases from earlier today: I figured out that after I added the Suzannah Cami...I would have been better off to just use my educator's discount of 15% and not do the Free Shipping. So...I called CS and the rep I got was WONDERFUL!!! She calculated the discount which ended up being $35 on everything, and then still gave me the FREE SHIPPING on top of it all...so I saved $35 by calling back. YAY!!!!!

ccbmum and jcrewjunkie: thank you both for all of the help with the Joelle pieces...I purchased the blouse in Regal Purple, size 2 and the Cami in Navy, size 0. I plan to wear the cami under my Kelly Jacket (which I purchased in the Bright Flame) with my White Cotton Matting Wide Leg Pants that I was lucky enough to get last week before they sold out again. :) I am really extra excited with my purchases since I ended up getting the extra 15% off and they are NOT final sale, which the CS rep verified, as well.

Can't wait to hear how you like the shoes jcrewjunkie...they were at such a great price on 6pm.com, too!

Melanie: I am so glad to hear you like the Gap Pants, and that you got them for $18...what a deal!!! I also wish they came in more colors...they do have other styles of wide legs in different colors, which I have, in Regular Khaki, Dark Brown, and Blue Pinstripe, but I still like the Tab Front Wide Legs the best. :) As far as them flaring out when the crease is gone...I have found that as long as your shoe's heel height is high enough that the pants just brush the ground...you will continue to get the straight, oh so flattering line, that you are looking for. :) I will be sure to pass on anymore great finds that I come across, too! :)

rach: Congrats on all of your purchases! I felt exactly the same way about the Cotton Matting Wide Leg Pants and Suzannah Camis, as you did about the Via Vittoria Jackets...I felt like I had waited forever for them to come back in my size, so when they did...I scooped them up with no regard to shipping or lack of extra percent off sale (although I did end up getting free shipping and extra percent off...YAY!) I'm glad you like the Slub-Cotton Wrap Tanks, too...I think they are super comfy, and I just don't have a problem with them at the bust like some others have mentioned, but have also decided that if gaping becomes an issue, then I will just pin or stitch the front wrap part so that it doesn't seperate. I really like them for my casual days of going to the park or running to the market...comfy, stylish, and feminine. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Uh-oh! They're UPDATING the site!!!! A nice white post-it note stating "We'll be back soon" & so on. This note is short for we're updating the codes on all our items so you can't navigate to them outside of the Final Sale page.

Actually, I'm soo excited! I'm feeling really blah (as someone else put it earlier) about shopping today. Now I can't go to bed! ;) FOR REAL!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Melanie: bless you for your post! I just now went through the "are you alright" with my husband! "All I see are boxes coming in & I don't check the credit card. What's going on? Are you alright?" So, this has been going on for over a year & he decides right now to ask me about it. Anyway, you just made me smile & provided backup to my craziness. growl

  43. FFM: I am also homeschooling starting in Sept. What does JC require as proof @ your store? If you don't want to disclose I understand.

Regarding JC site update: I will sleep tonight! but can't wait to see the site tomorrow a.m.

  44. Hi Rach: regarding the Educator's Discount for Home Educator's...when I was checking out I said that I was told by a CS rep to ask for the Educator's Discount (which I was...she verified with her Supervisor that Home Educator's ARE eligible...YAY!). They did not question me about it and just applied it, however...the CS rep also told me that if I had a problem, to tell them that the Supervisor at CS said Home Educator's are permitted the discount. Here in Florida we have a group called FPEA (Florida Parent Educator's Accoc.),and when you join you receive a card which can be shown as proof at numerous places to verify you are indeed an Educator...I was prepared with it, but did not have to show it. I was also told that they may ask for an edu.org email address, but I questioned this due to the fact that most Home Educator's use a regular email address to conduct any "school related" business, and do not have an edu.org address...once again I was told the regular email address is ok (after the rep spoke with her Supervisor), and she placed my order with the discount (this was on the phone). Once you have placed an initial phone order and verified you are a Home Educator, then they merely reference your previous orders when you ask for the dicount each time. :) Good luck! I am so THRILLED that J.Crew is recognizing Home Educator's in the discount...just one more reason I keep coming back! :)

BTW...RE: J.Crew updating the site...the CS Rep told me yesterday that today they are switching their computers over to an entirely new system...not sure what that means for us...she just said it will be alot easier for them, but didn't go into much more detail. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Melanie: Thanks for the nice comment! :)

Also, I know what you mean about having a significant other judging the spending done at J.Crew after seeing all the boxes being mailed. I usually end up having to clear it all out (the packaging) so my husband won't get too upset by it all! :)

FabulousFloridaMommy: Great story about both promos being applied to your order- that really is fantastic customer service!!! :)

  46. THIS MESSAGE HAS BEEN APPROVED BY ALEXIS. :)

I know there has been alot of talk about listing J.Crew items we are interested in selling, and I have several that I no longer have use for, but don't want to "bog" down Alexis' site with the details. If you are interested in seeing them, please click Here ...I have set up a blog called FFMsList where I have posted them. You can email me if you are interested. :) I will try to post pics today, or I can email you pics of the item/items you are interested in. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks for sharing FFM! If they give me a difficult time I will have proof. We mommies really are 'educators' anyway, even when we are not homeschooling ;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. FYI...I made a couple of edits to the FFMsList, so you may want to re-visit (if you have already), and I will try to add pics later, too! :)

Ironically, my husband will be doing "maintenance" on my computer a little later today, too (needs a new hard drive), but I will be back on and checking emails, blogs, and of course JCrew.com as soon as it is up and running again...hopefully sooner than later. :) (I HATE being without a computer!)
