Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Just stopped in for returns. First time I got eye-rolling because I had returns. I have to order two sizes for the hubs in everything since sizing is unpredictable. She said (snarky hoping) is this all in the last 30 days? Me (too sweet) oh yes!

Anyway here's my ?wha? of the day:

Today: $149.99 (24% Off) Pearl-studded loafers in glen plaid Item K3097

But on April 20th: Pearl-studded loafers in glen plaid Item K3097 $16.99

    An increase of 883%?

    1. @pbanos, that SA is poorly trained. Not only is J.Crew a *catalogue* company, but she is a brand ambassador whose personal opinion means nothing. She should be encouraging you to buy and return, as you are part of what keeps her brick and mortar job a reality.

I'm sure the following link to Vanity Fair has been posted here already, but for those who like me missed this story about company history and Chris Benz, I'm linking again:

    1. That appears to be a counterfeiter. TB does not have an online outlet: https://www.toryburch.com/client-services/product-information/counterfeit-faq/

    2. Too good = likely counterfeit unless it is a sale directly from the maker's site or a known outlet (say Nordstrom's).

    3. You could try a consignment website like The Real Real. They sell Tory Burch merchandise that has been gently pre-worn. And there is often an additional 20% off the listing price. I buy most of my designer purchases pre-owned from The Real Real. Just a thought.

    4. There is now a TB sale, plus coupon cabin has an extra discount and 6% cash back.

  5. I returned my Liberty Josephine popover today. The coral didn’t bother me at all (it read more pink than orange) but the style was incredibly dowdy on me between the ruffle neck and the pleats. I have petite proportions and the sleeves and shoulders were perfect on my usual JC top size, which means it must be short/small for regular proportions. The price was great and the material was nice but I just wouldn’t wear something that made me look that dowdy even during off hours.

    1. I returned too. The sleeves were way too short for my long arms, and without a tapered waist I looked very matronly.

    2. Yep, too short on me too. Returning this week.

    3. I really liked mine! I wore it untucked but tried it tucked and it looked cute that way, too. Sorry it didn't work out for you all :(

  6. Has anyone bought the pull on skirt in Ratti tropical? It looks like a great summer skirt but not sure about the elastic waist. Thanks

  7. Hi everyone! I really want to buy a J.Crew swimsuit, but I no longer have a brick-and-mortar store so would need to return or exchange via mail if it didn't work out. In the past, I've always needed to size up in the suits I got from J.Crew Factory, but I noticed that J.Crew's suits "now fit like the rest" of their garments...so would I be safe ordering my regular size? I want to order a one-piece which can be hit-or-miss since I'm short. Have you tried ordering one of their new suits? Thoughts on sizing? (Unfortunately the reviews that have been posted aren't super helpful.)

Also...is 30% off full-priced swim as good as it gets or do you think I could hold out for 40-50% off? I'm thinking there may be some good promos with the 4th of July coming up but I can never remember if swim is included in those...

    Thanks for any help!!

    1. I’ve not ordered a new swimsuit in the past year but I wear one pieces and I’m short (5’1) and my last two JC swimsuits had to be returned due to short torsos despite my petite proportions. Specifically I had enough or too much shoulder strap but not enough body length - always had to adjust. So ordering a size up wasn’t always helpful because it meant an even longer strap. It took a few trial and errors before I found the suit I use now, which is my regular JC size. But it varies depending on the style and material.
I think the last two Julys JC had big sales promos but if you need it soon I suggest getting it now with the current promo. Waiting for a July 4 promo will also mean waiting for it to ship, and JC is terrible at shipping after a promo. You wouldn’t get the suit until maybe last week of July.

    2. I got two one pieces last year, and was totally in the dark because I usually wear bikinis, and had never owned any swimwear from J. Crew. I ordered my regular size 2 and my smaller size 0 and took the 2. I'm 5'4" and slender and both fit perfectly, no issues in the torso or with pulling. I got them on sale and prices were wildly fluctuating, as per usual, but I didn't have an urgency so just bought them low. Good luck!

      Delete
    3. Thank you both! I'm right on the border of petite at 5'4", and I measured my torso and per the size chart I'd be a 0 with my torso but a 2 with the other measurements (whereas, in regular garments I wear a 0 even though my measurements put me at a 2 in those, too). I don't need it right away but am slightly worried about my sizes selling out before then... I think I'll wait and see what happens in a couple of weeks with promos. Thank you!!

  8. Hi, Kimi

    Love your blog!

    A couple of thoughts

    1) Returning by mail - if you pay using PayPal, they will cover return costs for online purchases (with some limitations). Please check out the conditions before you do this. I've claimed my return costs this way and the process was very easy and fast. I do all my online shopping this way now.

    2) Sizing - unlike specialty swimwear brands where I have to size up one or two sizes from my "usual" size, I have found that buying my "usual" size works with J Crew swimwear. But - I've been sticking to a particular style (ruched bandeau) so not sure about sizing for other styles. Swimwear is really tricky and it's not enough that it fits - you also have to feel good in it (comfort and confidence). Returning is a pain, but I think that you should buy the size you think you are, and also one size up and down on your first go around and plan for returns.

    3) Pricing - Some of the swimwear is 50% off regular prices right now with the "GETAWAY" promo. I think this ends tomorrow? If the one you want is not included, do you have time to wait (and the patience to check the website for future promos)? Because of international shipping and customs complications, I stick with J Crew and don't know about J Crew Factory, but if you can wait it out, on J Crew there will be an everything 40% off promo at some point where swimwear will be included. If you are super patient and you are flexible on the style and color/pattern, you may even be able to get it on sale with an additional mark down. (I got a couple of swimsuits for sub $20 Canadian last year.) But if you want something specific and you don't have time or patience to wait things out, 30% off is not bad.

    Good luck!

    1. Oh my gosh, thank you!! And thank you for the help! I have seen those emails from PayPal but have basically ignored them since I mostly shop from places with free returns, but that is super helpful to know. I may just order a couple of sizes with the plans to return one (...or both, if sizing doesn't work out at all). The suit I was looking at is only 30% off which is why I'm thinking I'll wait to see what happens in the next couple of weeks. I'm a little worried that my sizes will sell out which is why I was going to order now...but I'll wait and see! I don't need it right away.

  9. The one thing to keep in mind when using Paypal is that the conversion rate Paypal uses is not as good as when you’re using a creditcard. Of course this is only an issue if your account is not in US$.

  10. Hi ladies, I was wondering if anyone has tried the new maxi dress in Royal Block Print? The photo makes the vneck look very low which worries me, returns are such a pain that I hesitate to order. TIA

For Cdn JCAs I heard that Sherway gardens Jcrew is closing which is very sad to have another cdn store close. I only get to Toronto once a year but usually would go to that location since they had crewcuts and men’s too.

It was too long for me and also the top was not fitting properly. I think for me the P2 would be perfect. HTH

    5. Thanks for the update on the Sherway Gardens store. I don’t live nearby, but was planning on making returns there if I place any orders in the next 2 weeks as I’ll be passing through the GTA. The returns process has become so difficult that I’m now hesitant to place any orders at all.

    6. @Ina, thank you so much!

@shopgrrrl and Amahendra, I would’ve thought that the Sherway location would’ve done well. I guess it will only be Yorkdale and Bloor left? I can’t recall but don’t those locations only have women’s? For returns, I’ve successfully used PayPal’s refund program for return shipping once so far. I don’t like mailing returns though because it takes weeks to get the return processed.

    5. In a sleep deprived daze overnight (woken up by jackhammering across the street - WHO IS WORKING AT 4 AM???), I bought the AB shirtdress, the hi-lo silk tropical dress popback and waist-tie cropped pants. When I actually woke up later this AM, I realized that I had already bought the AB dress months ago and returned it due to size issues. And also I had bought it at a MUCH better price months ago. I was contemplating calling and canceling the order but couldn't get myself to say that I made the mistake because I was online shopping while half asleep.

    6. Ugh correction - i THOUGHT i bought the waist-tie cropped pants but i actually bought the collection tie-waist pant. I was so so out of it. I need to put something on my phone that prevents me from shopping overnight.

  13. Well i finally found something to buy, let’s hope it ships.
I’ve been looking for the slingback pumps in colorblock snakeskin. I tried them in store and was on the fence but I’ve been thinking about them more.
Finally popped back in my size and with rewards I’ve been saving up I couldn’t not get them.
I can wear the same uniform of a black shirt and jeans or pants but love fun shoes so I’m happy to add a unique pair to my collection. Of course I also have the white and havent had the opportunity to wear them yet but that’s ok.

    3. Since I wear shorter shorts, I typically stay away from heels with them, although I bet they’d work nicely with the tie waist shorts in cotton poplin which I have in black and Chambray. They’ll work well with wide leg crops, my black linen pants and jeans, of course. (Skirts too, though I’ve been wearing them less.)
