"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Any male shoppers upset with this winter wool coat line?

JCREW had many items in navy last winter, but this year other than the peacoat there is none. It is very disappointing.

    Also,

JCREW needs to make a Stadium Duffle Coat for males. With no toggle buttons

  2. JCrew belts used to be nice. I got two on Christmas Eve that are so rough on the edges and one esp. poorly made that they would snag on anything you wore them with--greatly disappointed in their continued decline in quality. If it was one belt I could understand that I might I have gotten a bad one but both were horribly rough.

    3. My last order "shipped" Friday evening but did not leave Lynchburg until this (Wednesday) morning. The estimated delivery date is Friday.

    4. My items "shipped" on Dec. 21st. One still says that a label has been created, the other is set for delivery on January 3rd.

  4. (Not really a vent.) In-store Boxing Day promo today is 50% off sale section. Not sure if it's Final Sale, as I forgot to ask when I called. No promo on regular-priced items (so I'm not braving those Canadian crowds). HTH!

  5. When are we going to get some new arrivals? It seems like they should be adding more soon since they're putting a lot of the current stuff on sale, it just seems like it's taking forever. I'm feeling especially impatient now with all my Christmas gift cards and whatnot.

    1. New arrivals should be in stores (and maybe on line) tomorrow Dec. 27th per my VPS

    2. I heard in stores 12/27 too. I got an email about being the first to shop the J. Crew Factory new arrivals, but it seems like they hardly ever add anything new to Factory. I looked at them today, but it was the same old stuff. Am I missing something here?

    3. I heard new arrivals are coming this week. A couple mentions were paisley shorts and I think paisley printed Ceces.

    4. I saw the shorts and a few items at my b&m this past weekend.

  6. I wore the Optic Dot Top for the first time to a Christmas party. I noticed a string hanging down in the back and when I went to cut it off, the entire back hem of the top had already unraveled. Not the type of quality I expect from J.Crew.

  7. My vent is about quality of 2012 fall/winter cashmere - I ordered a turtleneck and a Tippi in Heather Dusk; both are scratchy and so very thin! I compared them to the l/s cashmere tee from last year (should be same gauge), and it's not even close in softness. How is it possible that they feel rougher than merino Tippies?
Long story short - very disappointed in quality, and both are going back!!!!! I just can't fathom how JCrew keeps promoting these awful yarn rejects as their "collection" and "special". The nerve.

  8. And,don't dare wash this year's cashmere...it will look like a shedding old mess.

    1. Shekster, you've read my mind - washing was the first thing I was going to attempt if I were to keep them. Thank you for adding to my resolve to just return them and not bother!

  9. Off topic, but disappointing still, i was at a mall in denver and j crew had no new mark downs. Same prices on the same stuff as before christmas.

  10. Horrible horrible prickly lambswool that you can just tell will pill. My old sweaters from Marks & Spencer (the British chain) have much nicer brushed wool and were cheaper (before factoring in JCrew's perpetual sales). Lousy quality.

  11. Well, I was sad to see although the cafe capris in 'iced lilac' are a pretty pale purple, the matchstick cords in 'frosted lilac' are pink (!). There is barely any discernable difference in the online photos of the two colors, but they are very different IRL. Trying to decide if either pant is practical for my lifestyle...

  12. Nothing to vent but there is a preview of the January guide on the j. Crew blog. Destination catalog with hot air balloons!

  13. It finally happened to me...I was delivered the wrong item. I ordered the long striped merino sweater in dusk/navy color way, only to have the hideous azalea/rose color way delivered. Fail. And to top it off, I now have to make a store return. Blah!

  14. ordered a necklace from j crew factory last week, arrived to my house today...broken. First time i've ordered from factory and at the moment I'm not impressed. Since it was final sale do you think i'll be able to return it (since its obviously defective)

  15. Just received my Crystal Color Necklace today. I had been stalking this item for days, so I was really excited to get it! Unfortunately, the gold looks tarnished (almost dirty!), and not shiny at all. Can any comment on this? Is it supposed to look "distressed", or did I finally get duped?
    Thanks JCAs!

  16. I got the JCrew Classic Ballet Flats in Tawny Sand(36243) , size 6, for Christmas. Unfortunately I needed a size 5.5 and they do not carry that size and my local JCrew store. My mom apparently scored these bad boys for $35. The sales associate made a "We Find It For You" request to find the shoes in the correct size elsewhere. Just got an email saying they couldn't find them... But the 5.5's are available online at full price in my size! http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shoes/ballets/PRDOVR~36243/36243.jsp

I'm kinda irritated JCrew doesn't price match. I used to be a JCrew fiend, but latelyI've been buying more of my clothes at Nordstroms. They have wonderful customer service and will price match...

    1. Hannah Elizabeth, it's a pain to have to go in the store to do it, but if you can, they should be able to either order the shoes online for you at the store price or use the 'red phone' to get them for you at that price. Sometimes you have to do a little of the legwork for the SA's, but most of them are generally accommodating if you ask nicely :) HTH!
