ReplyDeleteI am smitten with the Felted Wool shift. The shape is amazing, I LOVE the length. Wish it came in more colors. Can you picture it in navy? The price is a little higher than I would like. Hopefully it's as we'll made as the mixed media skirt. I am seriously tempted to order today.

ReplyDeleteI find it odd that on the main New Arrivals page and the Dresses page they are showing a pic of the Blouson Dress in Stripe. But you can only get to that dress if you click on those pics. It doesn't pull up in a search and is not under the Dresses category. Not sure why it's hiding if it's on full display in header pics.
ReplyDeleteBut, I am loving all the brights: Summerweight Chino in Oceanfront and 9" Chino in Bright Green. And I would have liked the Striped Sweater Skirt without the pockets. The Baby Brompton is really cute and if I didn't have a Coral purse already I'd be all over that one. Otherwise, I don't think there's anything I want at FP.
Holy mackeral - the Valentina slingbacks have a leather lining and sole! I thought those days were gone (at J Crew at least). I've noticed J Crew, and those shoes will be mine!

ReplyDeleteI love the olympia suede sandals but wonder about ruining them quickly because of the suede sole, the valentina sling backs and of coarse the lucca suede sandal. love the colours. i can wait and see if any of these hit sale in July.
All the stipes and such I am seeing in alot of other brand name retailers that have much lower prices...J crew prices are too high still in the sale section for this time of year.

I really like the Marielle dress in superfine cotton, especially in that pretty Byzantine Blue. Looks perfect for work. One thing though: the images for the Beechwood and Smoky Graphite colors show different sleeves than the images for Navy and Byzantine. Methinks the website editors need to have some coffee and take another look....

M, I noticed the scalloped lace tank went down in price (and NOT final sale) so I ordered one up this morning. IMO it is running TTS or a little small. I tried the XXS and it was WAY too tight. Hope the XS fits OK because it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the blouson dress, and I know it is silk, but $148 for a simple sundress? Plus the belt, because it needs a belt. I might have to check out the stretch twill shorts. I really like J. Crew shorts, the fit can be wonky sometimes, but for a basic short, they work. But otherwise, the new arrivals seem kind of blah. Maybe it is the snow we are having today, makes spring and summer seem far away!

ReplyDeleteValentina Slingbacks - so cute, but where is the camel/brown color shown on the page with all of the shoes. When I click on it I get fresh mango and heritage green. If I hover my mouse next to the fresh mango color swatch Charleston Brown appears but no image? WTH? The online PS in the chat box told me popular colors sell out...seriously? I emailed my PS so we'll see what she says.

ReplyDeleteI'm crushing hard on the double-breasted Ivy blazer, cafe capri in warm jade, dot scarf in lagoon ivory, blouson dress in stripe and Evie striped peep-toe pumps.
I do wish their prices were better so I'm going to wait a bit before I bite. I have 5 blouson dresses and didn't pay over $70 for any.
I also nicked a pair of peep-toe flats at the sample sale that look suspiciously like the Evie peep-toe pumps. Flats and pumps in the same pattern? Hmmm...
Just a little roll out, but I guess that is to be expected since it is January and they are brining out spring items.
ReplyDeleteMy likes are still from the prior roll out and include the Ivy Blazer, jackie pull over, merino tatting lace sweater, and bright emerald boy shirt.
From this roll out the striped sweater skirt and Evie peeptoes caught my eye.
I do see some items that aren't on the web site but are paired with some of the items newly listed that I am interested. I can see a western shirt with the shorts and a side button pant with the contrast tee. I'm sure we have more good weather items coming in the near future.
None of these though are a full price purchase for me, I'll be waiting to see if they hit sale.
almost forgot the whole purpose of my comment is.... I don't understand the blouson dress? It seems rather shapeless to me and I can't figure out why they keep rolling it out? I know others like it so maybe it just isn't for me.

Not a new arrival, but a relatively new arrival...I got the blu basket weave tweed pencil skirt in the mail yesterday and was disappointed to discover that it's a couple inches shorter than the other pencil skirts I bought from J. Crew this Fall/Winter. I was loving the longer lengths and I'm not liking the look so I'm going to send it back.

ReplyDeleteit's all about the simplicity and funny enough, the shapelessness. I'm a size 0 with substantial bosom (not huge, but enough to not fit into the tops of a lot of JC's size 0 dresses). So this dress is a welcome change for me and it does show off my curves so beautifully, so yay!
It definitely isn't for everyone though. The 'waist' hits my sister at the oddest point on her body.
Structured dress are great but I feel the blousons have a more every Summer day practicality and style.
I picked up a few items with the 30% off: a black Majesty peacoat in black (already have the red and love it), a grape perfect-fit long sleeve tee, the golden stripe bracelet in mint, and cafe capris in port wine. I've been debating about the port wine capris all season. Thankfully, they weren't final sale.
ReplyDeleteI'm not quite in spring clothing mode yet...we haven't had much of a winter(so far)in Upstate NY so I think I'm not really sick of my winter clothes...that being said, the Marielle dress is byzantine blue caught my eye but that was about it and I'm still thinking about the cafe capris in the warm jade. My wallet is still recovering from fall/winter though.
ReplyDeleteI really like the Valentina slingbacks - the design is very similar to a pair of Prada slingback pumps that I bought several years ago (and which I wear every spring/summer without fail). I hope they will bring out some more colours. I also really like the look of the Marielle dress. Every year, I look out for the 'ultimate' blue summer dress and have yet to find one.

ReplyDeleteI ordered the Marielle anyway. I love superfine cotton dresses and the byzantine blue is so pretty in the Jackie pullover that I've seen on bloggers. I also ordered the dove tee since the linen tees from last year were reportedly very soft and they went fast. Hope it's a keeper but everything will surely arrive while I'm away so it will be weeks before I can post a review.

ReplyDeleteI found this new season pretty boring. Color wise they are still on the money but I have collected most of the hues I like anyway. The only thing that looks interesting to me is the tippi sweater..as I am obessed with "mad men" currently. LOL I wish the new jackie pullover had 3 quarter sleeve instead of full length.

(I had him order so he could get credit and so he'd have cs apply the in-store 40% plus the teacher discount and he got them to give me free shipping!) Glad to see the mini finally get marked down and happy to see the shell on promo. I love the shell - it's beautiful and flattering. :)

ReplyDeletepathos, I have the Emmett boots, both the flat ones and the ankle heeled ones. Leather is very good quality but I had problems with dye irregularities in the warm sienna colourway. The first pair I got had a darker line on one boot, it almost looked like a stain on the toe, and I exchanged for another pair, which had a similar dye issue but it was not as noticeable as the first pair so I kept them.
ReplyDeleteDesertFlower, yes I've had a quick email from her! She reports that the shift is itchy, there are some unlined bits around the neckline and the hem, drat! Also that it fit too tightly in the waist and loose in the hips, it does not have the great fit of the Emmaleigh dress, she says.

ReplyDeleteFelted wool shift. I also had high hopes for this one. The proportions were totally off for me--a very high, tight waist and full hips. Plus it was itchy in the places the lining didn't cover.
I think they have this one pinned in back on the model. I would have considered keeping it, but I have sworn off getting things from JC altered, so back it went. It could work for some. In my opinion it is for people with very hourglass figures. FWIW, I have a 26" waist, 34" hips, and tried the 00, which is my usual size in dresses and bottoms.
re: felted wool. I didn't try the shift but I did try the mini and it was itchy even with the lining. If you're sensitive to wool then this year's version of felted wool should be avoided IMO.

I'm not very sensitive, the itch factor might not have bothered me, but I am definitely not an hourglass. It sounds like I would have to tailor since I am more of a ruler body type. I am not averse to tailoring if it makes a garment perfect. This one could be challenging with the V shaped stitching on the sides, though. I will pass. Since that was the only thing I was interested in, I guess I wait for the next rollout!

I just love the cut of that dress, I have 2 in the superfine cotton and even though I need to get an 8 to fit my bust it is not overly full on the bottom. Very flattering.

ReplyDeleteI bought the felted wool shift and I agree that it will need to be tailored on the bottom. I wear a 0 or a 00 in J crew dresses. I usually find the bottom too tight and the top too loose. This dress is the other way around. I almost always have to take in the top of dresses but this fits snugly in a 0. The bottom has a lot of room and I will take it to the tailor to see what she thinks about altering it. I am 32, 24, 34 as a reference. I wear a 00 on top and a 0 or 2 on the bottom in separates. Didn't notice an itch issue when I tried it on.

I'm concerned the stitching on the skirt will make it difficult to tailor. Or at least to have it still look good!

It will be difficult (impossible?) to alter if it involves the waist detail. My tailor is very good and she has worked magic on a few dresses so I'm crossing my fingers :).
ReplyDeleteHow long does it take to produce an item from start to finish? Anybody know? I was looking at the price of cotton over the past five years. Prices seem to have spiked in 2011. It's totally possible that price spikes we're seeing are related to the inflated cost of the raw materials. Not that makes it easier on the wallet.

Desert Flower- I tried on the felted wool shift dress and it may be difficult to tailor. There is a lot of excess fabric in the lower back area. There are two darts in the back that the tailor may be able to use but she may need to take it in at the center seam where the zipper is which could be expensive. I won't take it to the tailor until Tuesday but I'll let you know the results.

However, for the heeled ankle boots, they run a little narrow, so I took a size 8. The flat boots are made in Romania, and the heeled boots are made in Italy.

ReplyDeleteUpdate on the Felted Wool Shift dress: I took the dress to my tailor today and she pinned it along the center seam at the back (where the zipper is) to take it in. She had to pin about 4 inches of fabric all the way down from the waist to the hem of the dress. I am having her sew the back vent closed because I like dresses to come in a bit at the knee (called a Sicilian Cut I think). I find J crew dresses and skirts to be a bit boxy so I have her do this with all my J crew items. She says the total for the alteration will be $35.00 which I think is very reasonable. She is a more reasonable tailor compared to other tailors in Southern California but she is very good.

Desert Flower, I bet this does go on sale as it's so expensive and a basic color. As to the cost of alterations, my tailor may have to remove the zipper as the center back seam is where she has to take it in, remove a lot of fabric from waist to hem and then sew the back vent. The fabric is really thick and the lining is sewn in around the zipper. I was actually surprised it wasn't in the $70 range. It isn't the easiest alteration.
