I am not an educator nor a student, but I can see why the inconsistency of the policy is frustrating for those who are. Just like when J. Crew sends an email discount code to cardholders and some don't receive it. I think the reason is that J. Crew is having communications issues, both to their store employees (stacking policy) and with their customers (I don't think they mean to exclude some cardholders from promos but probably have a glitch in their system). These are probably a result of the growing pains that Mickey was wary of in one interview I saw (the TV special on CNBC, I think it was). They are expanding business, losing track of some details like these we are seeing.catehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17121234545386465542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-58788806880505616612013-03-18T02:53:35.359-04:002013-03-18T02:53:35.359-04:00@Ruffles - I didn't take offense to any of the...@Ruffles - I didn't take offense to any of the points here or hold any particular judgement of any them. All valid & worthy discussion :)

In my comment, I forgot to add that the lack of clarity on the part of J Crew SA's leads to situations *juuuust* like Debby shared. Some of us would suffer enough embarrassment to be informed the discount didn't apply. What makes it 100x worse is the way store personnel -- esp the mgrs -- will sometimes treat customers that ask for clarification. Many of us are committed to giving our money to J Crew. Lots of it. There are many things I love about J Crew, but these incidents chip at my trust in the company. A good number of companies are competing for our dollars. Why should it be difficult for me to turn my money over to any of them? Companies are making shopping easier and J Crew stumbles at times in this dept. A good recent example are cardholder perks! Not!...for everyone. Just select cardholders.

Now if Mickey would just ring that bell on his bike, deliver the current policy over the loudspeaker and an assistant record & deliver it in a succinct fashion -- that could be great. Can't say it would make a difference because I've heard SAs -- at the register -- ask if an addtl 30% off promo was in effect while ringing up a customer. Umm...how did you walk past all those signs in clearance to get to the register where you're standing and not pick up on that? (raises eyebrows, alternately)
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06119918515498248436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-56779412899495570072013-03-17T20:14:33.091-04:002013-03-17T20:14:33.091-04:00Code claimed!Code claimed!IMIhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11021854120236836665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-22892192994811224802013-03-17T19:46:11.810-04:002013-03-17T19:46:11.810-04:00I think it is pointless to feel annoyed about othe...I think it is pointless to feel annoyed about others complaining about stacking student discount.

J Crew is honoring teachers and students by giving them a discount. While it may not seem fair to other professions, there are many other retailers out there that are less expensive than JCrew, like Gap or Old Navy. Therefore, if one is making less than a typical teacher and is not getting a discount, there are many other choices available in the retail world.

IMIhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11021854120236836665noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-77705106112317001722013-03-17T19:37:32.654-04:002013-03-17T19:37:32.654-04:00Hello All:

I purchased several items, and went way over my budget, but you have to occasionally treat yourself!

Of course, I purchased the rugby Crystal Necklace sweater. I also bought the black suede Everly pumps, No. 2 pencil skirt in Pinwheel eyelet (navy), the pink tweed jacket, the Emmaleigh dress in super 120s (black), the Tilda Oxford Rhinestone top, the Blythe blouse in polka dots, Mini medallion tie-neck dress, and a couple crisp button down blouses. When I said that I had read online that it had been reinstated, the manager printed off a memo that said that it couldn't be stacked on a store wide discount on a whole purchase. When I said that the inconsistency between stores and policies drove me crazy, the manager said, "Oh, just give it to her" with lots of attitude. At that point I was not going to make the purchase, but as I was doing a return, she called someone who verified that the educator discount on sale items had been reinstated. She then acted mad at me that she had been wrong. I thanked her, made my purchase, and would love to never shop in store again - but likely will since it's the only Jcrew in my area. I'm tempted to write to Mickey but then I'm afraid she'd treat me even worse!Debbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00656681885556815340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-40702232615937448522013-03-17T16:06:10.174-04:002013-03-17T16:06:10.174-04:00Gigiofca ... thank you for your always-spot-on poi...Gigiofca ... thank you for your always-spot-on points.

Please allow me to clarify: my comment was in no way at all a criticism of Flower Power's opinion, and I, too, am sorry about the inequity of these discounts!

My issue was with the statements that "District attorneys make a lot less than school teachers" and "As for students, many are financed by their parents." It has to be frustrating and embarrassing to take something to the register thinking it will be a certain net price and it's not. Esp for someone working with a budget and trying to stick to it. I think that's part of the frustration some JCAs are expressing. Not just that the discount can't be stacked, but that J Crew has flipped and flopped on the terms of the policy the entire time they've offered it.

I don't have the student/educator discount and sometimes it annoys me anyway. I can't speak for others, but I think the way J Crew handles it is a huge issue and speaks volumes about their lack of good/efficient communication within the company.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06119918515498248436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-1595668125635166072013-03-17T12:26:26.665-04:002013-03-17T12:26:26.665-04:00FlowerPower expressed her opinion and I believe it...FlowerPower expressed her opinion and I believe it's unfair for her to be "scolded" as the above poster just did for doing so because it's an opinion that differs from yours. Might I offer a more cynical explanation -- by offering this kind of discount, is J.Crew really trying to groom the next generation of consumer? The student who will likely become a long-time shopper, and the teacher who (perhaps and hopefully?) influences the student. This obviously doesn't necessarily apply to all educators, but I think this group is the core meant to benefit from the discount. It just can't be a means test...there are lots of people who make less than teachers.rcb.shopshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09557500983483062158noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-90169683715062612092013-03-16T23:57:05.426-04:002013-03-16T23:57:05.426-04:00If you're looking for the Macalister wedges in...If you're looking for the Macalister wedges in black, South Coast Plaza (Costa Mesa, CA) has one pair (didn't see a box) in a size 8 that's on sale for $119 before discount. I would like to offer you some food for though, hoping it can help you feel less upset. I went to a top tier research university (public) and many of us did not get a dime from our parents. Many came from underprivileged families. I, for one, put myself through college working three jobs simultaneously while taking a full time course load. I am now in graduate school and my fellowship is as close to living below the poverty line as it gets. Since I represent the university with students and at conferences, I have to look polished (and also because I need to sell myself to potential employers). My friend just graduated from a professional school with $250,000 in debt. So while I can choose to shop elsewhere, my money is as good as everyone else's at J Crew. I appreciate the discount and don't take it for granted, but it also influences my decision to shop there. I can only afford it with a percent off and student discount, but that's just my two cents. Oh, and the stress of a doctoral program makes my weight fluctuate, so I am usually in need of clothes on a regular basis. I hope this offers a different perspective on why some of us were upset.Anthro Bloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15923838563131831044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-15834461239091463962013-03-16T20:44:55.762-04:002013-03-16T20:44:55.762-04:00Also some reviews here. Also some reviews here.Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05184724930345348154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-79086718630125932612013-03-16T20:34:51.459-04:002013-03-16T20:34:51.459-04:00The Robson store has 40% off sale items and the sa...The Robson store has 40% off sale items and the same 20% sweaters and tops deals.
