As to the cost of alterations, my tailor may have to remove the zipper as the center back seam is where she has to take it in, remove a lot of fabric from waist to hem and then sew the back vent. The fabric is really thick and the lining is sewn in around the zipper. I was actually surprised it wasn't in the $70 range. It isn't the easiest alteration.LJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16124030695534230612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-55875508406700287312012-01-18T11:12:11.714-05:002012-01-18T11:12:11.714-05:00Mrs. Jenner, thank you very much! I think I will wait for a code or sale on this dress since I'm going to have to tailor.

By the way, I do the same thing with all my J. Crew skirts and dresses, I have them taken in at the bottom. I agree that they tend to be boxy.SunnyDayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06398034412926361235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-30176341271883024912012-01-17T23:37:52.394-05:002012-01-17T23:37:52.394-05:00Desert Flower - I hope you are still following th...Desert Flower - I hope you are still following the comments for this post!

Update on the Felted Wool Shift dress: I took the dress to my tailor today and she pinned it along the center seam at the back (where the zipper is) to take it in. She had to pin about 4 inches of fabric all the way down from the waist to the hem of the dress. I am having her sew the back vent closed because I like dresses to come in a bit at the knee (called a Sicilian Cut I think). I find J crew dresses and skirts to be a bit boxy so I have her do this with all my J crew items. She says the total for the alteration will be $35.00 which I think is very reasonable. She is a more reasonable tailor compared to other tailors in Southern California but she is very good.

I hope this helps!LJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16124030695534230612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-82886627680667017872012-01-15T21:36:07.057-05:002012-01-15T21:36:07.057-05:00Thanks, Mrs. Jenner. However, for the heeled ankle boots, they run a little narrow, so I took a size 8. The flat boots are made in Romania, and the heeled boots are made in Italy.Louise @ INGREDIENTShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09883303245642039938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-56496988841301687972012-01-15T19:44:33.427-05:002012-01-15T19:44:33.427-05:00Desert Flower- I tried on the felted wool shift d...Desert Flower- I tried on the felted wool shift dress and it may be difficult to tailor. There is a lot of excess fabric in the lower back area. There are two darts in the back that the tailor may be able to use but she may need to take it in at the center seam where the zipper is which could be expensive. I won't take it to the tailor until Tuesday but I'll let you know the results.LJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16124030695534230612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-75091277111016607692012-01-15T18:20:36.868-05:002012-01-15T18:20:36.868-05:00How long does it take to produce an item from star...How long does it take to produce an item from start to finish? Anybody know? I was looking at the price of cotton over the past five years. Prices seem to have spiked in 2011. It's totally possible that price spikes we're seeing are related to the inflated cost of the raw materials. I wear a 0 or a 00 in J crew dresses. I usually find the bottom too tight and the top too loose. This dress is the other way around. I almost always have to take in the top of dresses but this fits snugly in a 0. The bottom has a lot of room and I will take it to the tailor to see what she thinks about altering it. I am 32, 24, 34 as a reference. I wear a 00 on top and a 0 or 2 on the bottom in separates. I'm not very sensitive, the itch factor might not have bothered me, but I am definitely not an hourglass. It sounds like I would have to tailor since I am more of a ruler body type. I am not averse to tailoring if it makes a garment perfect. This one could be challenging with the V shaped stitching on the sides, though. I will pass. Since that was the only thing I was interested in, I guess I wait for the next rollout!SunnyDayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06398034412926361235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-55348973843443911332012-01-13T12:37:14.142-05:002012-01-13T12:37:14.142-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.shopmurphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10592410215423970143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-27019219756909072352012-01-13T11:06:57.830-05:002012-01-13T11:06:57.830-05:00@ Meghan: I bought the Silk Tie top and sent it ri...@ Meghan: I bought the Silk Tie top and sent it right back.
