I love the feel and the fit so much. I don't want to wear it all the time so I bought the Jcrew cashmere mockneck (using rewards and promos price wasn't terrible) and although the material is soft I don't like the fit nearly as much as the Everlane one. I'm hoping I can sell it on Posh for what I paid and then buy another Everlane one. I could have kept two cotton mockneck center cableknit sweaters that were $35 each. But I liked the quality, color and fit of neither. Instead I kept an LL Bean cotton fisherman sweater that I bought for more than double the price of one JC sweater. And I love the quality, color and fit and I wear it constantly, and it is one of my favorite purchases this winter season. If NSF has taught me anything, it's that I'm not settling any more for poor quality just for the sake of buying JC. eeps.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10627356547323862881noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-1149067545368174492019-03-05T14:33:33.567-05:002019-03-05T14:33:33.567-05:00I didn't do NSF but it has been lovely to watc...I didn't do NSF but it has been lovely to watch JCAs supporting each other and making more thoughtful choices.
For a few months now, I have been trying to keep the sale goggles off, and as painful as it's been, I have returned $8 dresses and $20 cashmere because the fit was lacking or the quality was lacking. Once I could eliminate the "for the price I paid it's ok" from my vocabulary, it became easier. I don't have much space and want to make sure I always look polished and professional. No matter how little or how much I paid for something, if it doesn't look great, the price won't be able to compensate, at least for me. Your experience might be different. I ended up with the Sorrento canary yellow sweatshirt, pale yellow vintage tee, a pair of Point Sur Hightower jeans (still not sure about keeping them though) and the Sul Mare peony tee that I just received. I can't believe it. I ordered several times a week, a day sometimes, if the prices were good!

Purchased only from the red line sales, 3 items from each so 6 total. Oh, and the charge send snake boots.
Besides those clothing purchases, I spent <$40 on navy blue bi-stretch Ryan pants from BR which I love. Only love their bi-stretch and needed navy pants as my others are too big. J Crew had no offerings that worked for me. $20 on camel wool Maddies from Ebay, and $35 on a seemingly new wool houndstooth J Crew schoolboy blazer (B6004) on Ebay. Lastly, spent $42 on cheapie bags from Romwe which have yet to arrive from China.
I've also been selling on Poshmark and Ebay. Not sure where my shopping dollar will go, certainly not to any one store. Spent less than half what I did in January and was much pickier about what I bought. 4 items total (across all brands): a sweater, a liberty shirt, a white button down (to replace one I had) and an old skirt from eBay. March is looking similar. I have some stuff I want but I've been leaving them in my wish list and really asking myself if I want/need it. However, I bought quite a bit at BR (mostly dresses and shoes), and a few items at Nordstrom Rack. So, I’m hoping to do better this month. I’m sure if I’d had a local store with the $9.99 sale (or maybe $14.99 CAD!) I was actually very happy with my results. I bought the lady jacket in multicolor metallic tweed (in black), a Parke blazer and a couple of white T's. For the minimalist JCAs this may seem like an excessive amount, but given the large number of purchases in the heavy discount months of November, December and January, this seemed like a (minor) victory.

I even forced myself to return a couple of duplicate items that I was originally going to keep because they were so cheap, they were almost free. While I was reading up on the demise of Cone denim last week, I started to understand the timeline of declining quality across the board in the garment industry. Clothes have never been cheaper — I think I pay about the same now as I did 20 years ago (if not less) for many items, but the only way to maintain those prices over that period of time is to cut quality. I agree that the quality is unlikely to return at J.Crew.shopgrrrlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05256902910449845128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-79114784197681220762019-03-04T18:27:24.454-05:002019-03-04T18:27:24.454-05:00Americans want cheap clothes - the sales data is v...Americans want cheap clothes - the sales data is very clear. Old Navy and TJX brands are the few doing well in the US, department stores and mid tier brands are permanently devalued.

J Crew is one of many mid brands where quality has declined, and market forces suggest its a permanent shift. The complaints are louder at J Crew because it was probably the most elevated brand in this tier in terms of quality and design. The design has the potential of returning; the quality, no. Cheap is growing and at the other end of the spectrum, luxury/designer will always have its niche.
